Can I perform an OEM update after locking the bootloader - Moto G5 Questions & Answers

I had a Moto g2 and I installed stock rom again and OEM updated which caused a hard brick. If I had locked the bootloader, would it still be bricked?
I have a Moto g5 now and don't want to brick it. What causes a hard brick.??

unlocking the bootloade voids your warranty.. only way is to send it to LG... or used the modded KDZ to disable big cores... in case you ncaat fix it. or get new motherboard..

bootloop not software but hardware... but you could try flashing KDZ using LGUP. ive seen some claim theirs worked after flashinf stock firmware if it continues then hardware but most likely its hardware..
mines is unlockable.. and trying to keep it that way for the same reason... ive seen a post that says it can be relocked...
heres is the post.. i would like to ask you a favor if you try it.. make video of it .. to prove it works..

This is the reason why i swap my G4 H818P to Korean Variant G4. The Bootloop problem. Korean Variant is perfect for me. Strong 4G signal and no more SMS Limits in Marshmallow official update.

No bootloader?

Good morning,
Having bought a phone LG G4 from China I doubt a bit of their ROM (we never know if they added cookies or what ..) So I decide to get started in the installation of a custom ROM. So already I notice that the phone is already rooted (while it was under blister). Well then I have to unlink the bootloader and I must restart in fastboot but nothing done I can not access the bootloader ?? I tried with the command window (adb reboot bootloader) but it restarts on the home screen .. ditto with an app boot manager, I go back every time on the home screen. How come? I do not have a bootloader or what ??
Thank you for clearing me up.
Sorry for my english

not all LG G4 can be bootloader unlocked only some european and tmobile usa one.
if you had root maybe it was on lollipop phone is bootloader locked.. in lollipop only it can be rooted using system.img rooted. and injecting.. but if you update to MM with locked bootloader it cant be done. no root nothing..
also downgrading in somephones to lower android version bricks phones they have antirollback.. not sure it it applies to all g4. mine does it tmobile.. maybe other can be downgrade. see if yours can at lest to have it rooted..

I don't have the fastboot mode, so you think it's normal? Mine is on LP but I can't update to MM (the category update is missing in settings) wich I think is due to the seller chinese, he did some strange things on the phone I think.

Do you want to relock the bootloader or you want to let it unlocked?
I would keep it unlocked and skip the black screen if possible...
I'd like to keep it unlocked since I need root, is it possible to remove it somehow?

I don't think that this is possible to do, even changing the splash logo you can't do that. You could try to relock the bootloader but I never tried doing that on a custom ROM, only on the stock one. I don't remember if after relocking the bootloader with the bootloader status as relocked the initial boot menu is shown. Anyway you could try. I suggest the mauronofrio's tool if you're on Windows. If you are on Linux you have to use the adb and fastboot commands

I assume [re]locking your BL on custom ROM will cause hard-brick. I need root so can't lock BL

I never tried it but at the end maybe yes. I don't think hard brick but it depends on what you exactly mean with hard brick (all the people think the hardbrick as something different lol)

I tried this and yes it cause hard brick to my zuk z2 plus. But i somehow make my exit from hard brick.
I used to have a ZTE Axon 7 that used pretty-much the exact same warning screen as the ZUK Z2. For certain ROMs on the device you had to flash a different bootloader, as provided by developers on XDA. I remember in one of the flashable bootloaders, the developer was able to remove the warning screen somehow. So I think it is possible to do this on the ZUK as well. It just needs someone to look into it.

Yeah just a thing, you can now relock bootloader on z2, on specific Roms. I made a guide for it and it works 100%

That sounds great. Although I just went and read your guide and I noticed it says the 5-second bootloader warning will still be there. Is there no way of getting rid of the warning completely even with a locked bootloader?

Can I update with unlocked bootloader?

I am stock firmware and havent touched it. I only have unlocked bootloader of my moto g5. Can I OEM update with unlocked bootloader?.
I saw an article for locking bootloader and it said to flash the firmware again. As I am already on untouched firmware, can i directly lock my bootloader? I have bricked a device in the past and so don't want to do that again.

What do you mean active bootloader? Did you mean locked bootloader? How did you manage bricking device with locked bootloader anyway?
