Best custom rom based on bootup time - Moto G5 Questions & Answers

There are many custom roms available for the moto g5 all with a different set of features, but all of these mean nothing to me when every rom I used so far takes 7-8 mins to boot up when stock takes less than 1. It makes my device worthless so far I've tried lineageos (unofficial), resurrection remix (unofficial) and octos (official), since all 3 are based on lineage it seems this stupid bug lives on. Is there a rom without this stupid bug or am I better off using xposed and avoiding roms altogether.
p.s Actually after measurement, it seems I have greatly estimated these roms octos boots up at 11 mins or and I believe the others to take as long 11 mins, and I followed the simple instructions perfectly wipe and factory reset then flash rom and gapps, why does it take 11 mins???

You are doing something wrong
The first boot may take up to 10 mins but after that it shouldn't take longer than two mins
I use lineageos and it boots in less than 2mins (not including first boot)
How to install a rom
Goto to twrp
Advanced wipe
Wipe data system cache delvik/art cache
Goto home screen
Install
Select rom zip
Swipe right to install
Goto home screen
Install
Select Gapps zip (I recommend nano gapps)
Swipe right to install
Goto home screen
Install
Select root zip
Swipe right to install
Wipe delvik/art cache
Restart

ya I think so because it's not the first bootup only, it's every bootup I'll just wipe everything and repeat, maybe it'll work out this time around
p.s your steps are kinda redundant since you can just add more zips

Yes you can add more than one zip but I prefer flashing zip by zip - User preference

One X - Slim ICS install problems

Hi there,
I had Andorid revolution on my One X but it got very buggy recently and decided to switch to anything else.
So i went with Slim.
Downloaded HOX_4_2.zip and Slim_manager.zip
Went to CWM recovery, did a format and installed both zips successfully.
But when Slim started to boot up for the first time, it only got as far as a SLIM icon with a black screen. It would rotate for a few secs, then reboot ad nauseum.
Any idea's what went wrong?
Going to reinstall Android Revolutions now for the time being until i find a more stable ROM
Thank you

new update of ARHD should be done tonight or tomorrow mate..
regarding slim the steps i took were this
go into fastboot and erase cache first
then flash boot.img
recovery and do full wipe
flash base
flash slim commons or manager whatever it is called now
and then reboot
waited a few minutes cause always first reboot takes tad longer and there i had it job done
EDIT: in recovery did you also do format system in mounts and storage

Thanks...
in fastboot i cant see an option to erase cache at all
what is the boot.img that you mention?
Im basically following the instructions from the site that say:
From another ICS ROM
Download device_x.x.zip and Slim_Common.zip
Enter CWM, wipe data, format system ( in mounts and storage)
Flash Device_x.x.zip***, then Slim_Common.zip
Is wipe data/formatsystem all just one step?
All that happens for me is that a Slim icon appears on screen and just spins around for 20seconds then the phone reboots...
Damn...

[Q] Custom ROM - How?

hi guys,
got confused from all the guides and stuff...
I'm getting a new LG G3 today (so i don't care to WIPE it...) and i really don't like the stock rom, and i need root.
what to do first? i'd like to get links to easy guides...
and also, which custom ROM is most recommended? i want something close to the Nexus Edition (maybe CM i best for me?) but i do want the KnockKnock feature to be there by default...
i'de like to get a guide to install the ROM too...
Thank you all!
set up your phone
root it with purple drake
download flashify from google play and grant superuser rights to it
flash a bumped recovery.img that's made for your device version with flashify
download a rom for your device from the lg g3 development forum
boot to recovery
wipe data + press back + factory reset + wipe system + cache + dalvik cache
back to the main screen of the recovery img
install the stock rom you downloaded
enjoy.
i explained it like you are my mother. don't mind it.
edit: knockcode doesn't work on custom roms yet as far as i know. you can download the cloudy rom that's based on stock lg lollipop though.

and i'm still looking for a custom ROM recomendation

just to be sure. you just click "advanced wipe", wipe data, press back once and there is a factory reset slider. you do it and go to advanced wipe again and wipe system + cache + dalvik cache.

you don't need an external sd. just download the rom zip you want, transfer it to your phone's internal memory with a usb cable before you wipe anything. do the wiping steps, go back to the main page, click install, choose the zip, click reboot system, done.

no, you won't. but double tap to wake will work.
why do you need knockcode that much? it's not so practical as it seems. i'm just using the swipe lock screen.
i'd suggest you start with the cloudy rom for at least a few weeks and try other custom roms if you want to.

oh double tap to wake and sleep works on every rom. you may use screen off and lock app from google play if you want to use another launcher like nova as well.
i like cloudy because i think lg has the best stock android experience when it's compared to other phones.
cm and other custom roms' cameras are really bad as well, they don't have the driver that lg stock roms have.
if you think these custom roms are enough for you and you need kind of better speeds, then yeah go for it and install them.
Is there a cloudy rom based on lollipop? Or only Kk? I couldn't find one...
just finished installing CM and everything
it was so easy!! even easier then in my old nexus 5!
thank you so much!!

[ROM][C6903][14.6.A.1.216] Stock Sony UK Customized Euro-LTE Pre-Rooted Dual Recovery

Hello all, I didnt see that anyone had posted the EU version of the 14.6.A.1.216 rom so I decided to make it.
This is the 3rd Prerooted Rom I have done.
Download Link to Google Drive:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B92T-AuRewqdamViTFFEa1FvNkk/view?usp=sharing
Screen Shots:
See attached Image
Prerequisite:
Battery Charger over 80%
Pre-rooted Lollipop
XZDualRecovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2647487
Installation Instructions:
Download C6903_14.6.A.1.216_Customized UK_1276-0875_R6D.zip and place on memory card in phone
Using TWRP make a backup of your phone.
Wipe Davlik & Cache.
Install/Flash C6903_14.6.A.1.216_Customized UK_1276-0875_R6D.zip.
Wipe Davlik & Cache again.
Reboot system.
Notes:
First boot for me took about 10 minutes. (Don't Panic) After that you will see the NFC Upgrading popup for about 2 Minutes.
Once in Android give the system some time to settle, Than upgrade all the apps. After that enjoy.
I have been Hands On, for about 2 days and all in all I am happy. The battery life is back to pre KitKat days. The speed of opening apps and switching back and forth is great. A lot faster than 14.6.A.0.368. Also The connect / disconnect from WiFi to LTE is alot faster. I also noticed there is a option to have the home screen rotate that I didn't have before.
Thanks:

CM13 not booting

After flashing TWRP with Odin, I boot into recovery and wipe the dalvik cache. I then go to install the CM13 zip file, and it works. I wipe Dalvik again and reboot in the os. This is where it just shows the CM boot screen infinitely. Nothing else. What is up. I am using the latest TWRP and CM13 release.
Try this:
1. Wipe cache, dalvic cache, data, system
2. Install CM13 again, along with your gapps(google apps if you didn't know, custom ROMs never come with them, optional)
3. Boot it, it should work
You cannot switch ROMs without wiping data. Bad things happen.
You must clean flash when:
1. Switching between a stock ROM to a custom ROM
2. Downgrading Android versions (5.1 to 5.0)
3. Switching custom ROMs (I.E. CM13 to AICP)
4. When the ROM's thread warns to (switching keys)
5. Switching between nightly builds and stable.
When you're updating nightlies, you shouldn't have to though.

Just did it, it still seems to be booting like it previously was. Wiped cache, dalvic, data, and system and then installed CM13 and gapps. Still booting as I write this.
Since that failed, check your download, make sure nothings bad. If its bad, redownload, if not, idk.
If you post your recovery logs, or what the console says, that will help me figure out what's going on.
Also, is your phone the triband model (l710t)?
Are you flashing anything else at the same time?
The more info you give, the better.

I've kind of given up at this point. Even CM12 doesn't work. The only thing that seems to work is the stock rom. My phone is the regular SPH-L710 model. I didn't even know the L710t was a thing.
I have the same problem, and sometimes it boot in the system setup mode, but the sensor is not working, i can turn on airplane mode, reboot or power off, and sensor works, what happend i dont know((

Custom ROMs crashing every couple of minutes...

Hello!
For some reason the custom ROMs Sultans CM13 and Resurrection Remix crash every 5-15 minutes, it freezes then reboots, and does it faster after that. I've tries reinstalling TWRP to no avail...
Stock works fine with Root and Xposed... But Custom ROMs don't want to work... So my guess is it's not a hardware issue...
I really want to get this solved since HOS is being merged with OOS...
help? Thanks!

No that's both dirty flashing. You need to wipe Dalvik + Cache + System + data.
Do not wipe internal because then there's nothing left to flash.
You will lose all your apps wiping data but I suppose you know right?

When you wipe all but internal you are starting clean and don't need to do anything other then flash ROM+gapps
And optional flash xposed. Root is already included in most roms.

Your doing it correctly.but still facing issues so i will suggest you to do real clean flash that means first flash full rom zip (about 1.3 gb in size) of stock oos via twrp then let device to boot.
Then enter into recovery ( use Official latest one) and wipe cache, data and system partition.
Now flash ROM.zip - supersu -kernel(optional) and now boot the Device and let it optimize all apps.
If you want Xposed now you can flash it ( be careful while selecting xposed zip . flash appropriate zip - sdk23 arm64)

Haven't had cause to use xposed for a while, but am assuming it still uses it's own framework? This used to preclude flashing a new rom whilst xposed was activated.

IT WORKS!
I'm so happy, I decided to wipe the dalvik and cache after every action... And wipe each party all together, then individually... It works!
And yes, Xposed uses its own framework still, its super easy to install, I would recommend checking it out again!

But it does mean you have to do full wipe and or deactivate it before flashing new rom. I probably will get around to using xposed again one day just nothing I need from it at present.

The ROM still crashed, ugh.. I'm worried that I won't be able to get an OTA working, since I can't get them normally because of root, xposed, etc...
I did everything you said, and it still crashed...
To be fair, it took waaaaay longer than normal to crash, so I think we are getting there... Hmmm
Suggestions?
Thanks!
Also, it crashes the same way every time, freeze for 5-10 seconds, then boop, black screen, then reboot...
SElinux is enforcing, and I'm encrypted... Could those have anything to do with it? Thanks!

Debugging instability with custom roms, and adding xposed modules into the mix, is a bit of a black art but here goes.
First install your custom ROM, with a clean flash i.e wipe everything. Do Not restore any data, except the stuff Google restores itself. Run the rom in this state for a good while (as a rule of thumb try running it for twice your expected stable period before considering it at stable i.e if it crashes once a day run it for two days) if stable proceed to next stage.
If your chosen custom ROM does not have xposed framework install it and activate now, Do not install any modules run for a while to access stability before proceeding to next step.
One by one install your chosen modules, again running each for a while to access stability.
At any one of these steps stability should degrade if so you have identified your culprit.
I know this process is laborious and likely to take a while to complete but sometimes otherwise rock solid roms can be affected by a combination of things and without carrying out the above steps identifying the culprit is nigh on impossible, do bear in mind that some custom roms are just less stable than stock.
