Hi all. I'm having a few niggles on my M8.
LineageOS v13.0 was the only version I could install successfully without any error in TWRP so I've ran with it and I'm looking for some help.
I'm experiencing random app crashes where certain apps close and I get the message "Unfortunately, xyz has stopped running". Some apps run fine but can randomly close (google play store will crash quite often) and others I'm not able to run at all (Evie Launcher for example will not open without getting the *has stopped running* error message). It's gotten to the point where the phone is unusable because it can't run anything.
I'm also running Magisk for SU but was having exactly the same problems when I was running SuperSU on a previous install.
Any help or insight truly appreciated! Thanks
Are you using the newest TWRP version?

Was running 2.8.6.0, now flashed to the latest 3.1.1.0, will try re-installing and let you know how I get on. Cheers
Update: The newest version of TWRP for the M8s I could find was twrp-3.1.1. I flashed the new version of TWRP, did a factory reset, flashed LOS 13 again and still the same problem

Yep I've got the M8s, yes I'm now aware I've posted in the wrong forum lol :good:
Point still stands, I'm using all the correct ported tools and still getting nowhere.
Ah, that narrows it down.
There's only los13 for m8s afaik, this one https://forum.xda-developers.com/ht...al/lineageos-13-1-htc-one-m8s-m8qlul-t3629761
You've been trying roms for regular m8, right? I'm surprised they even booted up.

Whoops, missed that part in the first post, sorry :silly:
No idea what's exactly wrong as the twrp shows no errors as you've said.
Are you using an sd card as an adoptable storage? Stock rom works without problems?

I ran the RUU for my phone, re-ran the update and am stable on 1.08.652.11 710RD
Original post:
I'm getting a consistent kernel crash on all kernels, stock, etc. after the latest HTC update for sprint-vm cdma. Basically, I can get any rom to boot, after about 10-30 seconds, kernel crashes causing the phone to reboot.
I've attached the dmsg log that contains the crash information.
I'm not sure what I can do to fix this issue, as it appears to be a firmware problem. Thoughts?

Stock kernel and all custom roms, ICS and JB have the same exact result. This is why I'm suspicious that this was a bad firmware update. I've read several posts about spontaneous reboots, but most people don't know about dmesg, so I don't have anything to compare to.

Yes, this is the same behaviour. I'm not sure if you're able to dump the dmsg stuff from adb, but certainly same crash. Typically the phone network status shows a little x, right before the reboot. But the lagginess starts happening when the 5 second kernel reboot is issued.
I've tried to change to airplane mode, disable sdcard and everything else I can think of, still crashing and I'm not able to make much of the logging info

Yes, completely back to stock. Unfortunately, I didn't create a backup of the stock image that booted after the OTA update was applied I just restored pre-OTA rom, cwm recovery and boot.img. Everything appeared to be working fine after the update on the stock ROM. However, I didn't leave it on long enough to confirm if the crash issue existed then. Just checked the version info to confirm the update had been applied and rebooted.
UPDATE
I'm going to go through the process again with the RUU and see if I can boot something stable.

Confirmed RUU -> Update worked the second time. This is probably the safest method. This appeared to work initially, but clearly did not. Thanks for all the feedback!
I can't get any non-stock rom to boot after applying the OTA update. Well ok it boots but loops after about 10-15 seconds.
I have to RUU it and not apply the update to get any non-stock rom to work.
CDMA/VMUSA here.

I applied the OTA update. Only the stock kernel (after update) will boot now. Any non-stock kernel crashes - always seems the last line is rmt_storage, which the IPC to shared memory of the boot loader I believe.

Can you link me to a working RUU?
i got my one v primoc back in the beginning of summer, but then something fell on it and cracked the screen super bad but i loved the phone so much that i bought another at the end of october. i unlocked, wiped, and flashed JB roms... which seemed to work fine for a while & then would have issues of staying stuck in roaming. i've tried different roms. i never had this issue with my first one v... could my new one have the update already when i bought it? i ran the RUU football posted and was able to boot the stock rom... but right away it goes into roaming again, with my phone not even recognizing that it's using a VM service.
real confused...

Yes it's possible that you got one with the update already on it however the problem you are having is completely different than the problem we're describing in this thread and could be caused by many other things - not necessarily the OTA update.
Seems a bit off topic for this thread...
More of the rebooting problem
I have 2 phones one with this problem, the other without it. My friend got one of these phones after i installed jelly bean on mine. He had it long enough to have updated the firmware using the stock image. I made a backup of the stock image, but it seems to have been corrupted (zero byte .zip file). I need to get the phone working (stock or updated, at this point there is no preference so long as it works)
In the bootloader, the radio version of the crashing one is:
1.00.00.0928
The working one is:
1.00.00.0521_2
As far I can tell, this is the only difference. I Used the same SD card and the same procedure for wipe/installing the OS with the same files.
Have you found a solution to this? If so, can you point me to the downloads/instructions for how to fix it?
Looking for help

No, I relocked it after I flashed the image and turned off the oem unlocking option after. I was previously rooted though, but the script on the image should have taken care of that right?

Why don't you flash the latest factory image?
You can't flash an OTA update via custom recovery.
Loving this new update!
However, if you want to save resources and please your customers at the same time when doing the next update -
skip the nextbit bits.
Just make the next updates (if you plan on making any more of course) stock, for all intents and purposes, except perhaps for the backup/cloud feature.
revert back to 7.0 ?

My phone is a japanese variant, Docomo. Now the latest version is oneUI 2.1. I have tried to flash both twrp 3.5.0 and twrp 3.4.0 into the phone. Then I formatted the data and succeeded. However, if I restarted the system, it was stuck in the warning page all the time and can't enter into the homepage.
I have only seen several ways to flash twrp based on oneUI 2.5. Can anyone help me? Very appreciate.
Still waiting for you
Maybe you need to flash a custom rom or so
It may be possible to force installation in download mode with the warning page displayed. Roms can be found quite a few different places. If something is not working properly, please do a factory reset.

Docomo's device is a malicious creation of a Japanese original. What appears to be a working custom ROM was mainly in China. But a closed place. I was tormented by the few that even worked on my DOOCMO S8.

We couldn't provide support for the hardware, mostly because you said that you've tried to reset the device and flash the stock ROM again.
If this doesn't fix the hardware issue, the assistance is the only way.
Probably a failure batch etc.

One ui 5.1 firmware cannot be downgraded. I currently daily drive crdroid from nazim on one ui 5.1 firmware. my touch has never had issues. May be a hardware issue. The problem is that after flashing it goes in a bootloop where it says that "this phone's bootloader is unlocked, press power button" i do it and it starts the galaxy logo with above the writing "the software you are using isnt official, you may have problems with security and features" and it gets stuck there, rn i flashed the original firmware with odin and the phone is working but touch still isn't.
EDIT: i forgot to add that when i flashed with odin everything was going fine until the phone's screen went from green to red, i've never seen this so idk if i should be worried or not (phone is still running normally).

Just flash twrp for this thing from here. Follow steps on that thread to decrypt your storage and stuff. Then download crdroid gsi. Extract it. flash img file to system partition in twrp. Afterwards wipe dalvik, cache, internal storage
(internal storage is not necessary). You should be able to boot into twrp sucessfully.
I also have some workarounds and the stuff i use for my daily driving in this thread here.
If you need any further help i'll be here to assist.

Oh um i am sorry looks like thread doesnt contain instructions to that. I'll write em here myself
When you boot into twrp after flashing go to advanced and go to terminal
type
multidisabler
run it two times. Then go to format. Then press format data and type yes. Once its done reboot back into twrp again. Then flash crdroid as i said in my post above. and format the things i said. you should be able to boot into crdroid normally.

So uh looks like you have no options left. I just want to make sure. could you list the exact methods you used to flash the fw. Along with where u got the fw from? Lets see if the fw itself is broken or something.
Also this is very unrelated and time wasting. but you could try download one ui 5 firmware. Then extract super.img from ap. unsparse it and extract vendor.img and flash it to vendor partition using twrp. Then decrypt by typing
multidisabler twice in terminal as said in my previous post. Check if maybe an older version one ui 5 firmware has this issue fixed. one ui 5's kernel boots so one ui 5 vendor should work on 5.1 as well. It may not work but worth a try. you could also try doing this with android 12 firmware if that fixes it. if you do not have a linux machine availible i'll do it for you and upload the files for both firmwares here. Otherwise if its a hardware issue get your phone replaced or try getting the screen replaced. if still nothing happens ig switching to a new phone would be the only optiion.
So, to flash the firmware I used odin, the fw was from sammobile.
For trying to extract super.img and so on idk how to actually do it so if you could explain it would be really helpful. Btw trying to flash android 12 firmware is impossible because samsung made it so,
thank you again for the help.

i use samfw mostly for my firmwares. anyways. You need a linux machine nearby. ubuntu or arch. any distro based on them would work.
first you need to unsparse the super.img
for that we use
simg2img super.img super-raw.img
then we can use lpunpack or mount it to get our vendor.
we flash it using twrp and then we run multidisabler twice like we did when we first flashed gsi.
As you said above if you could do it for me it'd be awesome because i don't have a pc with linux rn.
