That's easiest way I found but I want to confirm it will properly unroot?
Suggestions please, thanks.
No, it won't. It will only remove the SuperSU app, but not restore the boot.img (which rooting modifies).
Are you on a custom ROM (and if so, which one) or stock ROM?
If stock ROM, must restore a stock (never rooted) backup.

Hey everyone quick question. I'm still on an unrooted stock 2.1. Wanted to see what Froyo would bring before rooting. Now that it's here I want to upgrade and get my root on. How does this plan sound?
a) Root with unrevoked
b) Titanium backup
c) Root/Nand unlock with Simple Root
d) Restore with titanium backup
e) Nandroid backup
f) Flash one of the rooted 2.2 roms (probably Netarchy's rooted Odexed version)
Does this sound like a good plan to keep root and still keep all my data post wipes? I can flash Simple Root over unrevoked correct? Thanks for the help.
I have a burning question which I'm very unsure as to what the answer is. I want to (finally) root my HTC Desire using Unrevoked3. The thing is, before I flash my phone, I'd like to back everything up first so I don't lose all my information like App data and SMS.
To my understanding, you lose everything when you flash and the unrevoked method flashed a recovery image when it's done. So will that delete all my data? Or is there a way I can Root my HTC desire first, back everything up, and then manually flash my own launcher?
I'll need help and proper steps with this, thank you.
You lose nothing when rooting with unrEVOked, only when flashing a new ROM
Would it be possible for me to retain certain aspects from the HTC stock programmes after I flash it? Like Facebook for HTC Sense and the Sense UI weather Widget?
You mean after you flash a custom ROM? Yes, just flash a Sense custom ROM (like LeeDroid) and you're good to go.
Rooting using unrEVOked does just that - root. It does nothing else so the ROM will be exactly as it is now but with root access
Thanks guys, rooting was a success!
If you don't mind me asking: What app would you recommend I use so I can back up all my contacts, SMSes and Apps (including data) so I can recover everything once I flash my phone?
I use titanium backup, it backs up everything when rooted. Also you might take a look at Mybackup Pro, SMS backup.
Been searching without success can I restore an unrooted backup to unroot?

If this backup really doesn't have root, then yes I believe that would technically unroot it as far as the OS is concerned. You would still have a custom recovery unless you restored that to stock. May I ask why you were doing this?
Hi guys.
i will install a custom recovery and root my m8 gpe, so i can install titanium backup and retrieve my wifi passwords since google didn't backed them up.
i want to know how can i unroot after doing this so i can take an OTA.
does unroot in supersu app works? it leaves any traces of root? also i know that i need to reinstall the stock recovery.

I don't believe this works (OTA will still fail).
Restore the stock nandroid you made before root. Otherwise, find a stock nandroid posted in one of the collections.
does TWRP able to flash a stock rom?
if it possible, will it cause any problem?
my device is rooted and using stock rom (planning to flash CM)
a) if you have twrp installed, then just backup before flashing any other roms, then factory reset and restore to go back to factory if needed.
b) you can flash OTA with twrp, and I ma pretty sure full stock roms too. See this guide. There is a thread on xda too, but I don't have it bookmarked.
I hope that answers your question.
P.S.
Remember that you have to unlock bootloader for TWRP, and if you want to use OTA function on stock rom with TWRP you need to fully unroot first.

Thank you very much
