Review (part 1)
Introduction
This is the OUKITEL K8000.
Hardware
Part of the K-series of battery phones released by OUKITEL, this K8000 is a whole new model, not a successor to another device released in the past, coming with a 5.5" HD AMOLED screen, the first time ever for OUKITEL, and an huge 8000mAh battery. All other specs are pretty standard, Mediatek MT6750T, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of Storage.
Unboxing
Almost identical to the K5000 package, this K8000 comes with the usual rich pack of accessories: 1x Micro-USB Cable, 1x Pump Express (up to 9V) USB Charger, 1x User Manual, 1x SIM Card Removal Tool, 1x Warranty Certificate, 1x OTG Cable, 1x TPU Cover and the Smartphone (of course). A screen protector is already applied.
It's been a long while since the last time OUKITEL released a full-body metal chassis for a device. The last one that featured it was the unlucky U15s. As a result of this choice, the device feels really solid, probably one the best one i have ever reviewed, and the build quality is decent with metal keys and no noticeable imperfections except some minor scratches on the antenna bands.
Due to the huge battery and metal chassis, this isn't a device that can be considered compact neither light. It is 15.5x7.62x1.10cm with a weight of 236g, not the heaviest battery phone i have ever tested, but it isn't light either.
Starting from the front side, OUKITEL declares to be using a "Dragontrail" glass, and it is 2.5D curved on the borders. Underneath, there is the AMOLED panel; the upper front side of the device features a Front-Facing Camera, an Earpiece, and the Sensors hole that includes Light and Proximity Sensors. A Notification LED is here.
Here you can see the LED in action. It seems to be an RGB variant.
Just like most devices released in the past few months, also this one features a fingerprint scanner on the lower front side while keeping lots of empty unused space on the sides where hardware touch keys would have been fitted without any issue.
There isn't much to say about the back side since, as already mentioned before, it features an unibody metal body thus it is only one piece for everything, no plastic parts.
The upper rear side of the device features the Camera Sensor with a Dual-LED Single-Tone Flashlight on the right.
On the lower rear side there isn't anything important at all since the speaker is located on the bottom.
Device
Screen
I am not a big fan of AMOLEDs, even though my daily driver Mi Note 2 features an OLED screen, but the panel on this device doesn't look extremely saturated. Colors are rich, and there is no "gummy" effect meaning that it has been mounted properly and not inverted. Due to the HD-only resolution, it doesn't look really sharp.
No issues detected with the Light Sensor. The panel does seem to lack some brightness, maybe limited via software for power consumption. AMOLEDs are usually brighter.
Viewing Angles are perfect, as you would expect from an AMOLED panel.
Camera
This device comes with a OnSemi AR1335 13MP camera sensor for the back camera that provides some decent shots and an overall acceptable picture quality. Colors look slightly washed out though, as you can notice on some samples attached below. Considering the type of smartphone, it is pretty common for companies to not focus a lot on camera quality for battery phones.
As regards the Flashlight, it is pretty powerful but slightly out-of-sync. Hopefully this will be fixed with an OTA Update.
When it comes to Video Recording the situation gets a bit worse, since videos are recorded at 1080p15 with heavy stuttering and unstable framerate. This is a clear confirm that the camera software requires lot of work.
The front-camera sensor is an high-quality OmniVision OV8856 8MP camera sensor that offers some decent shots. As you can notice, its angle is so wide that it is hard to get something focused for testing.
Audio
This is another department where the K8000 lacks some quality. Starting from the Earpiece, it is decent but there is some distortion at maximum volume and no low frequencies at all. The Speaker instead lacks some volume, and the range of frequencies is limited just like on most devices.
Something that doesn't lack quality is the Microphone, since it provides a pretty clear sound and everyone was able to hear me properly.
GPS
GPS Quality is so and so, the antenna isn't able to provide a really strong signal thus the amount of satellites isn't really high. Accuracy is just fine though, even indoors.
Indoors on the left, outdoors on the right.
Telephony, Mobile Network & WiFi
The device is meant to be used with European Networks (Band 20 included), just like most Chinese devices that are sold with EU Plug chargers. As regards the signal, i was not able to find any issue or lack of network connection, and the speed test run on 4G confirms it. The result is as good as it should be since that's the maximum i reach even with other devices.
Matching MT6750T tech. specs, it supports WiFi N 5GHz networks. Both signal and speed are excellent, able to use completely my internet bandwidth. An high quality antenna has been used.
Battery Life
Do not consider this battery capacity test as 100% accurate because the device never stopped charging even at 100%, keeping a really low load (0.09mA) from the charger. Based on this testing, the real battery capacity should be OK, matching the declared value.
Nothing to complain about the battery life. The PCMark Battery Test provided a result of 21h and 3m that, considering the power-hungry chipset (MT6750T), is as good as it should have been.
A 8000mAh battery can't be recharged so easily, and the Mediatek Pump Express charger (up to 9V) included with the device appears to be enough to provide some reasonable charging times, more or less 3 hours for a full charge.
Software
Thankfully, OUKITEL keeps using a clean OS for all new devices. It runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with the usual Mediatek old-style apps, and there is no bloatware excect a custom keyboard that can be easily disabled. It is a pity that it hasn't been released with Android 8 Oreo, but, considering OUKITEL's attitude, it is highly possible that it will be upgraded in the near future.
The only customization that i was able to find is a power-saving skin option in the battery tab, that simply replaces all white backgrounds for maximum power-saving, a must for AMOLED screens.
All Mediatek Goodies such as MiraVision, Gestures (double-tap to unlock included) and others are included.
Both Gyroscope and Magnetometer/Compass are present, thanks OUKITEL.
No malwares detected with Malware-Bytes Anti-Malware using latest definitions.
The fingerprint scanner used on this K8000 isn't the best i have ever tested, it lacks some accuracy for some reason. It is fast enough, but frequently not able to recognize my finger properly (as you can notice in the video). Looking forward to see some improvements with an OTA Update.

Review (part 2)
Benchmarks
I have used 3DMark, AndroBench, Antutu Benchmark, GeekBench 4, GFXBench, PCMark (Work 2.0, Computer Vision, Storage & Work 1.0), V1 - GPU Benchmark Pro and Vellamo to stress the device to the limit. I won’t test Games or Video Playback because there are already some related tests included in these Benchmark suites.
3DMark – Just like all MT6750T devices, the Mali-T860MP2 GPU isn't super-powerful for heavy games.
AndroBench – Excellent I/O Performance, an high-quality eMMC has been used.
Antutu Benchmark – I won’t say a lot about this benchmark, this isn’t as reliable as others. I’m providing this just for benchmarks lovers.
GeekBench – Matching other MT6750T devices, CPU performance is decent for daily tasks.
CPU
Compute
GFXBench – Hardcore Benchmark on a low-end GPU = disaster. Can't expect more for a Mali-T860MP2
PCMark – Decent Scores, nothing to complain about.
Work 2.0
Computer Vision
Storage
Work 1.0
V1 - GPU Benchmark Pro – Since there is no Snapdragon 6xx preset, i thought the 410 one was the one near enough to our chipset. Apparently, i was wrong.
Vellamo – As expected, Multi-Core performance is good.
Conclusions
In my opinion, this is probably the most complete OUKITEL smartphone ever released. Why? For many reasons:
1) Notification LED
2) Unibody Metal Chassis
3) Gyroscope & Compass
No other OUKITEL device released in the past ever managed to get all points, and i really appreciate it. Still, it lacks something i would expect on ALL new devices: USB Type-C! It's 2018, everyone should go for it from now on.
So, do i recommend it? It depends on your requirements. If you are looking for an AMOLED battery phone, then yes. It can only get better with some OTA updates.
Pros:
Superb Battery Life
Excellent Build Quality
AMOLED Screen (may be part of the cons for someone)
Notification LED
Gyroscope & Magnetometer/Compass
Cons:
The camera software require some optimizations
No USB Type-C connector
Mediocre GPS Antenna
Mediocre Earpiece/Speaker Quality

Review up and running!

great device..... of course mediatek is not the best soc for a battery phone ( sd625 is way better) but i COULD accept it.....
the bad thing that is UNacceptable is the use of a 720p panel!! amoled is a GREAT FEATURE, real blacks, less battery use ok ok..... but in 2018 no one can look at a phone on 720p be serious oukitel!!!
outsource another oled panel and i can buy it... ok to save on soc, but to save on the VISION quality no...... 1080p is THE resolution.
@Alberto96 are you sure that it is UNE BIG 8000mah battery instead of 2x 4000mah on parallelized? i notice that some produced .. to go over 6000/7000mah do use the parallelization of TWO batteries, the same oukitel on k10000 serie and k10 serie uses 2x batteries inside (4example doogee BL12000 ues 2x 5000mah batteries but they sell it as 12000 and there are some YT videos that show this scam....)

Yeah i agree with you about the low-res screen, weird choices sometimes.
About the battery, i don't know whether it is a single 8000mAh cell or 2x 4000mAh cells, but at least i can confirm that the capacity is correct so i don't mind about how they managed to get that capacity.

it is odd that you tested 8000mah on 5v port because it's known that the mah of a battery is rated at the medium voltage of 3.7 or 3.8v ..in fact power banks of 10k mah declare values of about 6200..7000mah on 5v .... it is clearly written on the xiaomi power banks 4example.
Anyhow i suppose this k8000 is at the moment one of the smartphone with the highest battery life, such as the lenovo p2, mi max 2, oukitel k10 (11kmah)..... but i am curios to know if it's better an amoled with 8000mah (k8000) or an ips with 11k mah (k10)

Don't worry about the testing methodology, i have been following this way for months (also, i'm not the only one) and i can confirm that it is reliable enough.

I have bought the k8000. Before I had a samsung s6 with 2k screen. I dont miss it! 720p is fully sufficient for anything except VR. You really cant see the difference unless your nose is 5cm from the screen.

I can not find a way to root the k8000. Does anybode have a hint for me, which programm/apk is able to root this device?

K8000 software
Software OUKITEL_K8000_V13_20171027 is uploaded on their web page.

Thanks to Alberto96 for the great review! ?
I just got this device, and I really like it so far! It is a decent effort for the price range, the build quality seems fairly good. Obviously the battery life is this phone's selling point - it is impressive, and fast charge with the supplied charger is working very well indeed.
Re comments on the display: the resolution decision seems to me to have had the aim of extending battery life. My previous device was the Ulefone Power 2, and for just an extra 2000mAh in the battery the difference is quite noticeable. There are a few power-saving features built in to the OS, too. It seems this device is well optimised for battery life from both a hardware and software perspective. I find the display perfectly adequate. With AMOLED it has nice deep blacks, looks crisp and is power-efficient.
I'd be interested to hear from anyone else who has this phone and their thoughts so far. I know these Mediatek devices tend to be less popular on here, but it would be nice if we could get a little community together! ?

OUKITEL releases K10000 Pro at MWC 2017
According to the poster in OUKITEL booth, the K10000 Pro defined its slogan as ”To be the King”. Taking a look at the folder poster, K10000 Pro is improving many aspects compared to the K10000. The battery will be a 10100mAh variant packing a 12V/2A flash charger. It’s still 5.5 inch display but the resolution has been improved to 1920*1080 for more fantastic visual effect. The chipset has been improved to MT6750T octa-core processor together with 4GB RAM+32GB ROM. The camera is getting some exciting changes too: 8MP front facing camera and 16MP primary camera. It seems that all the main specs are upgrading to a higher level.

Yes, that too because i think the original name of the new K10000 was K10000s and this is K10000 Pro.
So, it could be 2 models K10000 Pro and K10000s.
In this case, i would definitely buy the waterproof! its awesome!!!!

Review Unit from the company.
Hi, I have just receive my Oukitel K10000 Pro
First thing, the very bad idea for the USB port, it's an specific USB cable (the metal connector is more long than others!)
I think to cut a smal part of my phone, to can put any USB cables ...
Actualy, I try to root it, but I don't get it yet (OEM Unlock is enable).
I can get FastBoot try to boot other receovery.img, but reboot (none of tried image will boot actualy, no ADB root availiable).
Stock ROM have Google Apps, no blotwares. No root acces. I have in the box, silicone case, leater case, screens protections. Packaging is good.
I will test it whn I get it root, no before (because I m afraid for hidden communications in backgroud, this is a Chiness phone )
And ? Yes, it's strang to get it in the hand, it's heavy
how about root please ? nothing on needrom...

Review (part 1)
Introduction
This is the OUKITEL K10000 Pro.
Hardware
Starting from the previous K10000, OUKITEL is known to release Smartphone with a battery as big as something you can find in a Power Bank, and with this K10000 Pro it is becoming really serious, with mid-end specs instead of low-end that probably limited the users target. Just like latest flagships from OUKITEL such as the K6000 Plus and U11 Plus, also this one is powered by a Mediatek MT6750T, but with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of ROM.
Unboxing
The Packaging of this device is unique, i have never seen so many indipendent boxes and amount of accessories for a single smartphone. As a result, i need to divide the unboxing in multiple parts.
MAIN PACKAGE: 1x Smartphone (of course, even though the box can contain two of them), 1x TPU/Silicone Case, 1x User Manual and 1x Warranty Certificate
PACKAGE #1: 1x Leather Pouch (that can't be used with the Silicon Case)
PACKAGE #2: 1x 5/7/9/12V USB Charger (Pump Express)
PACKAGE #3: 1x OTG Cable and 1x Micro-USB Cable
PACKAGE #4: 1x Glass Screen Protector (with all tools to apply it)
Just impressive. Also, a Plastic Screen Protector is already pre-applied.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The design is both elegant and sporty in the same time, with a mixture between a Vertu and some other brands that make this kind of bulky premium devices. The Quality is great, with Metal for the Side Chassis and Plastic for everything. Maybe some extra Metal would have been better, but this is already an heavy device, the more Metal you add, the more heavy the device becomes.
It is 16.1x7.74x14.35cm, as thick as a Power Bank more or less, but the overall size isn't bad at all, considering that i have reviewed devices with a similar size but much lower battery capacity. The weight is...really high. It isn't impossible to say that it doesn't feel heavy, it is heavy and bulky, but it couldn't have been otherwise.
On the front side there is a rare-to-find Flat Display (no 2.5D) and the upper front side of the device features a Front-Facing Camera, an Earpiece, and the Sensors hole that includes Light, Proximity and Gesture Sensors. Unfortunately, a Notification LED isn't here. Why? I guess because you can keep the screen-on forever (Daydream/Screen Saver) and the device will still reach the end of the day. It is still a missing feature though.
As regards the lower front side, there is the soft-keys zone with Recents, Home and Back buttons, not backlit.
On the back side there is the Plastic Back Cover with a Leather (synthetic or real, i don't know, it feels synthetic to me) Layer in the center.
The upper rear side of the device features the Camera Sensor supported by a Single-LED - Single-Tone Flashlight, together with the Fingerprint Scanner in the center.
On the lower rear side there is only the OUKITEL logo since the Speaker is positioned on the lower side of the device.
Device
Screen
As an huge upgrade from the K10000 (not PRO), this one has a FHD IPS Screen with a overall good color reproduction, still with the usual high color temperature that doesn't make the white balance perfect. It is still better than the K6000 Plus screen though.
Its light sensor supports smooth light changes with a maximum brightness of ~370lux. Not too high, neither too low.
Viewing Angles are as good as you would expect from a good IPS screen, and the lack of a 2.5D glass reduces even more the gap between the screen and the real glass.
Camera
Unlike what happened with the U11 Plus featuring the same Rear Camera sensor (AR1335), this one has a complete set of Camera Features, with an overall decent photos quality and good performance for low-light shots. Unfortunately though, it shares the same flashlight bug found on most latest OUKITEL devices. (out-of-sync)
Some HDR On/Off shots plus some extra random photos.
Excluding the out-of-sync issue, the flashlight is pretty powerful and is able to provide a lot of light to support the camera sensor.
As regards Video Recording, 1080p30 videos are recorded with a decent level of details, just remember that there is no OIS so you can’t expect stable videos.
The Front Camera is a standard GalaxyCore GC5025 (5MP), with Wide-Angle.
Audio
Speaker Quality is average, with almost inexistent low-frequencies but with an high level of volume.
As regards the Microphone, it is decent, maybe not the best i have ever tried on a smartphone, but still acceptable. In-Call Quality is decent too, nothing to complain about.
GPS
Thanks to the Plastic Back Cover, the GPS gets maximum signal everywhere, everytime. Probably the most performant MT6750T device for Signal and Accuracy.
Indoors on the left, outdoors on the right.
Telephony, Mobile Network & WiFi
Providing full european bands support (with 4G Band 20), the device was able to keep a stable connection to my 4G Network, but there is an issue somewhere with the Modem/Baseband, because even with maximum 4G signal, the speed was really bad (as you can see from the screenshot). OUKITEL, take a look at this.
I know that this is weird, but as regards the WiFi Connection the situation is completely different. I have never seen a smartphone with a mid-end Mediatek CPU reaching so high speed (almost the maximum from my internet connection) using my 5.0GHz connection. Outstanding.
Battery Life
This battery monster isn't only declared to have a 10000mAh, but it also matches that capacity for real, with a small extra of 240mAh.
Also on this device, i was able to run the PCMark Battery Test correctly, and the result is as impressive as you would expect from a 10000mAh battery. Almost 24 hours. Sincerely, i might have expected an even higher result, but i think the device still needs some improvements for power management.
As regards battery charging times, the MTK Pump Express charger is just a MUST in order to recharge the smartphone in a reasonable time. It gets a bit hot while charging, but it takes more or less 3 hours, and the ambient temperature was 32/33 degrees celsius. (yeah a bit hot to be an indoor temperature)
Software
Following most previous OUKITEL devices, including the K10000 (not PRO), also this one comes with a Clean Android 7.0 Nougat release, with May 2017 security patches and no pre-installed bloatware.
The UI feels smooth, with rocking solid performance even while running intensive tasks, and almost inexistent micro-lags.
The usual pack of Mediatek features is here, with MiraVision, Gestures (such as tap-to-wake) and so on...
There is no Gyroscope or Magnetometer/Compass...also on this one...
No malwares detected with Malware-Bytes Anti-Malware using latest definitions.
The Fingerprint Scanner is accurate. I managed to unlock the screen everytime. As regards the unlock speed, it is almost instant.
Review (part 2)
Benchmarks
I have used 3DMark, AndroBench, Antutu Benchmark, Epic Citadel, GeekBench 4, GFXBench, PCMark (Work 2.0, Computer Vision, Storage & Work 1.0) and Vellamo to stress the device to the limit. I won’t test Games or Video Playback because there are already some related tests included in these Benchmark suites.
3DMark – Thankfully the Mali-T860MP2 is able to beat the K10000 (not PRO) with no doubts.
AndroBench – Sligtly unstable I/O performance, with high read speed but a bit too much low write speed.
Antutu Benchmark – I won’t say a lot about this benchmark, this isn’t as reliable as others. I’m providing this just for benchmarks lovers.
Epic Citadel – 37.9FPS, just sufficient for acceptable 1080p gaming experience.
GeekBench – 8x Cortex-A53 cores with the usual low single core performance and decent multi-core performance.
CPU
Compute
GFXBench – As expected, this hard-to-handle benchmark struggles to run on this GPU, but it is really demanding compared to what games really require to run.
PCMark – Usual scores for this Benchmark Suite, do not need to be commented.
Work 2.0
Computer Vision
Storage
Work 1.0
Vellamo – Compared to other MT6750T devices i have reviewed, i think there is something limiting CPU performance slightly, i guess the lack of a metal back cover causes the CPU to get hot easier.
Conclusions
There are many words to describe this device, some are positive, some are negative, but none of them can matters really except this: UNIQUE. Based on a research i made (you can do it by yourself using Google), this, together with the predecessor K10000, is the only smartphone ever released with a 10000mAh battery.
Of course this isn't a device for everyone, you need to deal with the weight and the thickness, but if you choose to go for something like this, i am pretty sure you know what you are going to get.
In my opinion, compared to the K10000, lots of upgrades have been made to the device, with a better CPU/GPU, more RAM/ROM and a FHD screen. This is not a Camera Phone, but the Rear Camera sensor is reasonably decent, the hopefully it will be kept updated in the future with new Android Versions.
If with the next model OUKITEL chooses to introduce a Notification LED and a Compass/Gyroscope, i will be able to declare it a perfect smartphone.
Pros:
Outstanding Battery Life
Clean Android OS with latest security patches
Huge amount of included accessories
Cons:
No Notification LED
No Magnetometer/Gyroscope Support
Some issues with 4G Connection Speed

Hello,
I have a problem with the Oukitel K10000 Pro in France.
I have to change mobile operator to confirm my hypothesis. I went from the operator Free Mobile to Bouygues Telecom to do different and enormous test.
This telephony only works on 1800 MHz frequency. If you do not pick up a relay antenna with a frequency of 1800 MHz (LTE) then the phone does not work.
In big cities the mobile connects and disconnects each time it passes on an antenna relay 1800 Mhz or not. So more network the majority of the time and more network as soon as one leaves the big cities and that is not covered by the frequency 1800 Mhz. For information, this phone works very well in 4G (only the frequency 4G LTE works) 200 meters from my home. Covered by an antenna (and checked with Bouygues customer service)
Either it is false advertising, or there is a manufacturing defect because we find other cases on the net. Note that I am very satisfied with the old model K10000 that has been working properly for a year.
Very disappointed with this new model which nevertheless displays the same network characteristics.

Review (part 1)
Introduction
This is the CUBOT Magic.
Hardware
Copying the name and design from the Honor Magic, this CUBOT Magic could be considered its cheap clone. Powered by a Mediatek MT6737 CPU with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of ROM, it is clear CUBOT only wanted to get the same design, and not the same performance.
Unboxing
Packaging is for the first time different than all previous CUBOT devices, and comes with some accessories: 1x Micro-USB Cable, 1x 5V/1A Charger, 1x Quick Start Guide, 1x TPU Cover (no more shock-proof unlike previous CUBOTs), and the Smartphone (of course). Somehow they are not including any screen protector in the box.
The chassis is amazing in my opinion, even though it isn't made of metal. They managed to make it as curved as a piece of soap, and i am not kidding. It literally slips if not used with the TPU cover. There is also something negative though, it is a fingerprint magnet. The oleophobic treatment is completely absent.
It is 14.64x7.09x1.00cm, pretty compact but a bit thick considering the battery size, and it weights 165g, i think it should have been slighly lighter for the same reason written before.
On the front side there is the super-curved screen (more than the usual 2.5D) and the upper front side of the device features a Front-Facing Camera supported by a Single-LED Flashlight, an Earpiece, and the Sensors hole that includes Light, Proximity and Gesture Sensors. A Notification LED is here, but it only supports one color: Blue.
Here you can see the Notification LED in action.
As regards the lower front side there is the soft-keys touch area with Recents, Home and Back keys.
On the back side there is removable back cover that hides the removable battery and all slots.
The upper rear side of the device features the Dual Camera Sensor supported by a Dual-LED - Single-Tone Flashlight, and the CUBOT logo slightly below.
On the lower rear side, excluding the usual certifications and model name, there isn't anything at all because the Speaker is positioned on the lower side of the device.
Device
Screen
Another really positive thing about this device is the screen. It is bright, super-sharp and with an excellent color accuracy with no banding, probably one of the best 5 inches screen i have ever found on a smartphone.
Its light sensor supports smooth light changes with a maximum brightness of ~500lux.
Viewing Angles are as good as you would expect from a good IPS screen, but the more-than-usual curved screen reduces slighly the viewing angles on the sides.
Camera
Of course not everything can be excellent on a device, and this is where it lacks some points. First of all, it is important to say that, even though this device has an MT6737 (not T), the Dual Camera implementation is REAL. The device handles two cameras properly, and both back cameras are recognized.
The software though is still the same as on all dual camera mediatek devices, with the only difference that if you cover one of the back camera sensors, it automatically switches camera between the left or the right one.
Photos look detailed and with some noise pretty noticeable, i would say average quality for the price target.
The Flashlight is powerful, synced with the shot, but as you can notice macros are insufficient.
Here you can see some shots taken using the Bokeh mode that SHOULD be using both cameras in the same time.
As regards Video Recording, with the quality set on "Fine", videos are recorded at 720p30 with a pretty stable frame-rate.
The front-facing camera is decent, usable for video-calls or such, just do not expect super-detailed photos even though there is a Flashlight supporting the shot.
Audio
Just like on most CUBOT devices, the speaker is sufficient, with the usual lack of low-frequencies and average volume. The earpiece though is a completely different story, it is just perfect, with no lack of frequencies at all and a pretty high volume.
As regards the Microphone, it works decently well in any case (in-call, VOIP, etc...), nothing to complain about.
GPS
GPS Quality is average, as good/bad as most MT6737 devices, it might be improved with future OTA updates.
Indoors on the left, outdoors on the right.
Telephony, Mobile Network & WiFi
Providing full european bands support (with 4G Band 20), the device was able to keep a stable connection to my 4G Network, but the speed, somehow, seems to be capped. This is something that should be improved with an OTA Update as soon as possible.
Thankfully the WiFi hardware is noticeably better, even though only 2.4GHz networks are supported, i was able to reach almost ~46Mbps, a pretty rare result for MTK hardware. Impressive.
Battery Life
Battery Capacity seems to be slightly higher than declared, common on CUBOT devices (i will never forget the CUBOT Dinosaur, check my review if you want to see something unbelieable). Declared 2600mAh vs Real ~2850mAh.
The PCMark Battery Test provided a barely sufficient result for a battery with this capacity, i guess this can be improved with future OTA updates. (Lowest brightness, WiFi on, Airplane Mode off, Sync on)
As regards battery charging times, due to limited 5V/1A charger, it isn't possible to charge the device completely in less than 2 hours and 45 minutes more or less. It is limited by software so do not expect faster charging times with a more powerful charger.
Software
Running on Android 7.0 Nougat with latest July 2017 security patches, and most important, with no bloatware preinstalled, the device runs with no issues at all, even though the CPU isn't that powerful. But...the secret was easy to find. In order to avoid the well-known MT6737 performance limitations, they choose to compile the OS with no 64-bit support, meaning that there is less load on the CPU and less RAM usage. The result is just perfect.
All Mediatek Features such as MiraVision, Gestures (somehow in Spanish ), and other features are present.
As expected, there is no Magnetometer/Compass and Gyroscope.
No malwares detected with Malware-Bytes Anti-Malware using latest definitions.
3DMark – Thanks to the 32-bit OS, GPU Performance is higher than some other MT6737 devices.
AndroBench – eMMC Performance is sufficient as regards the Write Speed, good as regards the Read Speed.
Antutu Benchmark – I won’t say a lot about this benchmark, this isn’t as reliable as others. I’m providing this just for benchmarks lovers.
Epic Citadel – Reaching almost 30fps, 3D performance is barely sufficient for smooth gaming.
GeekBench – 4x Cortex-A53 CPU Cores clocked at 1.25GHz, can't be any better.
CPU
Compute
GFXBench – The poor Mali-T720 GPU doesn't have any oxygen to run any of these tests decently.
PCMark – Just like what happened with my last review (MT6580 device), also on this one the Video Editing test fails so i guess there is something wrong with the latest PCMark version.
Work 2.0
Computer Vision
Storage
Work 1.0
Vellamo – This is where you can notice that you are dealing with a low-end SOC.
Conclusions
CUBOT Magic...even though i don't like to see any brand copying a device's design, i have to say that they managed to do a great job with this one. Its design together with the touch-and-feel (i hope this is the right way to say it), does not make it look like a cheap low-end MT6737 device.
Overall the device is good, with enough performance to handle most daily tasks, easy to carry thanks to the compact size and with an in-call quality rare to find on a chinese device. It isn't perfect though, just like all devices, since you have to forget about macro photos and high-speed 4G connection (hopefully fixable with an OTA update).
So, do i recommend it? Unless you can find something more appealing for the same price, yes.
Pros:
Mind-blowing touch-and-feel
Excellent in-call quality
Removable Battery
Plenty amount of RAM (3GB)
Great WiFi Performance
Cons:
Single-Color Notification LED
No Gyroscope & Magnetometer/Compass
Low 4G Connection Speed
Fingerprint Magnet (no oleophobic coating)
Out-of-focus Macro Photos (while using the Flashlight)

Oh, thank you for the quick reply.
Thats a pitty, the specs and design looks really good.
Are there at least some smart gestures to start camera or to wake up the screen?
Great review Alberto96, if you need help with dev, im happy to do what i can!
i just recieved my Cubot Magic, so far so good im just trying to find a way to root it..
@ Napfgeist, there are none in the settings that i can find however if we can root im sure we can figure something out..
Any news on custom rom development?
Hi, i bought this device 1 month ago and is going good, my question is: if I unlock bootloader and root this device will I lose Warranty?

You don't need to unlock the bootloader, but you need TWRP in order to root it, something that isn't available yet.
Did you maybe have Cubot R9?
I dunno to buy R9 or Magic. So Magic has 7h SOT?
I read that R9 had 4h of SOT but it looks like with same battery.
Battery request
Thank you for this extensive review. I wish I understood the importance of most of the details but some things are meaningful for me and I have ordered this model online. While waiting for my phone I'd like to know which manufacturers sells batteries for this model - I prefer a real battery to some item that needs attaching and holding if the fitted battery is too low/empty. And is it possible to use this model with more powerful batteries - I'd like a little more time from a charge. Thanks again, I feel confident to be getting a no-nonsense reliable phone to enjoy.

Review (part 1)
Introduction
This is the m-horse Power 2.
Hardware
As a successor to the low-cost m-net Power 1, the m-horse Power 2 (new company name, was m-net in the past) appanrently has been designed to provide some features or to cover more needs such as 4G support and a bigger screen. It is powered by a Mediatek MT6737 instead of MT6580, and with 2x RAM/ROM found on the Power 1, 2GB and 16GB respectively.
Unboxing
After lots of smartphone coming in the usual packaging, this one is different and interesting, with the standard kit of accessories: 1x Micro-USB Cable, 1x 5V/2A Charger, 1x Quick Start Guide, 1x Warranty Card, 1x TPU Cover, and the Smartphone (of course). A screen protector is already applied.
Unfortunately, compared to the Power 1, i notice some degrade as regards the build quality, with a back cover (non-removable) made of a glossy and not 100% polished plastic (especially on the corners) and some minor imperfections here and there. Still, it feels solid enough.
NOTE: Even if it looks dirty (like opaque in some zones), it isn't. That's how the painting has been applied.
Being a device part of the "Power" series, it is clear that it is not meant to be compact, instead it is a classic battery phone: 15.5x7.67x1.07cm with a weight of 238g. Thanks to the rounded back cover, it doesn't feel as bulky as i would have expected.
On the front side there is the 2.5D Glass with an HD IPS panel underneath, and the upper front side of the device features a Front-Facing Camera supported by a Single-LED Flashlight, an Earpiece, and the Sensors hole that includes Light, Proximity and Gesture Sensors. No Notification LED is here.
As regards the lower front side there is the soft-keys touch area with Recents and Back keys, together with a Fingerprint Scanner (can't be physically pressed) that also works as an Home Button.
On the back side there is plastic non-removable cover. Here you can notice how glossy that surface is.
The upper rear side of the device features the Dual Camera Sensor supported by a Dual-LED - Single-Tone Flashlight, and the m-horse logo slightly below.
Hold on! On the m-horse website the phone is shown with a Dual-LED - Dual-Tone (so two colors) Flashlight, as shown below. It isn't true though...
On the lower rear side, excluding the usual certifications, there isn't anything at all because the Speaker is positioned on the lower side of the device.
Device
Screen
I am not sure whether this is a software calibration fault or not, but the panel on my device looks extremely sharp, and with "sharp" (not the brand) i mean that everything looks marked like what you get by enabling the high contrast option in the Settings. This is confusing, since the panel itself offers some decent colors and a good white balance, so i doubt this is a low quality panel.
As regards its maximum brightness, it is sufficient, barely enough for outdoor visibility. (usually all panels made by SHARP provide this level of brightness)
Viewing Angles are OK, as good as you would expect from an IPS panel, but even here you can notice the over-sharpeness issue i mentioned before.
Camera
This is probably where most improvements are noticeable compared to the Power 1. With the Sony IMX219 8MP Camera Sensor, the device is able to capture some pretty detailed photos with excellent color reproduction and not really high amount of noise. As i am always specifying in all my latest reviews, the Dual-Camera setup won't be tested since, as we all know, on Mediatek devices the result isn't as good as it should be.
Here you can see some samples, not bad at all compared to other devices in the same price range.
Also the flashlight is OK, providing enough light (probably even a bit too much) to support the sensor in low-light shots.
Unfortunately all positive thoughts about the camera can't be said for video recording too, since videos are recorded at 720p25, but the frame-rate isn't really stable and sometimes it stutters a lot.
As regards the front-facing camera, it is as good as you would expect from a 5MP camera sensor, not super-detailed, but enough for some occasional video-chats or portraits/selfies. Its dedicated flashlight is not much useful since it isn't really powerful.
Audio
Audio-wise, this device provides a balanced experience, with the usual Speaker that lacks low-frequencies, but a pretty loud Earpiece, so loud that at maximum volume the audio gets distorted.
The microphone instead is just fine, no issues noticed in-call or during VOIP calls.
GPS
GPS Quality is...meh...not good at all to be honest. There is some lack of signal and precision outdoors (but it is stable), and indoors it isn't able to lock any satellite.
Indoors on the left, outdoors on the right.
Telephony, Mobile Network & WiFi
Just like most chinese devices, also this one provides a full coverage of 4G bands for Europe (B20 included), and the signal reception is pretty good, but somehow the speed looks slightly capped (compared to other devices tested in the same location recently).
I am always happy to see low-end devices coming with 5.0GHz WiFi support, but it must also work properly imho. On my unit, even with maximum signal, the maximum obtainable speed looks, again, capped. This result, connected to a 5.0GHz network, isn't quite acceptable.
There must a software issue related to the network management so, as soon as an OTA update gets released, i will redo both tests and see if m-horse worked on it.
Battery Life
Tested with my usual USB tester, the real battery capacity seems to be lower than the declared value, reaching ~5520mAh instead of the declared 6000mAh.
Well...the PCMark Battery Test talks by itself...17 hours is a great result, wouldn't have expected something worse considering the battery capacity and low power consumption from the low-end Mediatek SOC.
This is where i think m-horse made a big mistake, for a device released with a such a big battery, a 5V/2A charger isn't that great, more than 3 hours are required to fully charge the device. m-horse, please choose to include a Mediatek Pump Express charger with the successor Power 3, if there will be any.
Software
Following the Power 1, also this one comes with an almost 100% clean release of Android 7.0 Nougat release (with MTK goodies), with a minimum amount of bloatware and stock-UI. Somehow, the Facebook app has been included in a way that can't be removed (even if uninstalled, it gets reinstalled after a reboot) so i hope to not see it again with a future OTA update (for those who hate that app, is annoying).
Not all Mediatek features have been included, Gestures are here, but MiraVision isn't.
No Magnetometer/Compass and Gyroscope sensors are there.
No malwares detected with Kaspersky Mobile Antivirus using latest definitions. I am testing this new software instead of MalwareBytes just to see which one is more accurate.
Unexpectedly, the fingerprint scanner is really good considering the device value, not blazing fast, but fast enough and also accurate. Well done m-horse.
3DMark – Pretty standard 3D performance for this GPU (Mali-T720MP2) on the MT6737 platform.
AndroBench – Confusing result, preetty low write speed with really high read speed, usually it is more balanced.
Antutu Benchmark – I won’t say a lot about this benchmark, this isn’t as reliable as others. I’m providing this just for benchmarks lovers.
Epic Citadel – Barely reaching ~30fps, the GPU is just enough for some light gaming.
GeekBench – CPU Performance gets impacted slightly by the 32-bit OS.
CPU
Compute
GFXBench – Well...heavy benchmarks on a low-end GPU can't provide any better result.
PCMark – Balanced Result for this CPU/GPU, with an higher than usual Work 1.0 result.
Work 2.0
Computer Vision
Storage
Work 1.0
Vellamo – Nothing to say about this benchmark, low-end SOC = low-end performance of course.
Conclusions
As a successor to the Power 1, this Power 2 provides some impressive improvements and it can only get better with some software updates (not sure about the GPS signal though). In 2017, 3G-only smartphones should not exist at all, and that's why now most companies decide to go for the MT6737 SOC instead of the outdated MT6580, and i appreciate that, at least for low-cost devices.
The device itself is decent, if it was built with an higher attention to details and released with a more polished, or more optimized, Android OS, i think it could have been declared as one of the best low-end devices released in the past few months.
So, do i recommend it? Yes, and hopefully m-horse will release an OTA update as soon as possible to make it even more worth the consideration.
Pros:
Decent Camera Quality
Loud Earpiece in-call
Fast enough Fingerprint Scanner
Excellent Battery Life
Nice rounded ergonomic design
Cons:
No Notification LED
Low GPS Signal
Issues with Network Speed Management
No Quick Charge supported
Over-sharpness issues with the screen

Just few days back upgraded my phone from Redmi 3 to Power 2 , till now experience is good.
seems like i got value for money device because compared to my previous phone extra things are
1. Bigger battery -which is very good for more since i travel a lot.
2. Finger print sensor- easy to unlock the phone
3. Bigger screen - display is quite good and big so it gives good experince while watching movies and videos
4. Camera- At least better than Redmi 3 and it is giving nice shots thanks to dual camera system
I hope this phone gets development soon that i can try Custom ROMs fingers crossed

Not an upgrade, the Redmi 3 is way more powerful and made with better components than the Power 2, you probably meant downgrade (and a serious one...)
Comparison here: https://www.devicespecifications.com/en/comparison/9c1ce5f26 (or choose any other website to compare specs, but all of them will confirm the huge gap between these devices)
@Alberto96
If you are comparing in terms of performance than I agree low end CPUs from Qualcomm is better than Mediatek but considering its Bigger battery , Dual Camera setup is leading factor here when it comes to Redmi 3 vs Power 2 , dont you think ?
Redmi 3 is indeed a good phone but for those who are looking larger display and bigger battery phone then Power 2 is a good buy, dont you think ?
Are you planning to give a try for Custom ROM development for this phone ?

1) the Dual Camera implementation on the Power 2 is fake, as on 99% of all Mediatek Devices. That's why i do not provide anymore samples taken using the "Bokeh" mode. (i hope you were aware of this otherwise you paid for a feature that doesn't exist for real)
2) Power 2's screen is bigger but miles away from the quality found on the Xiaomi.
I still don't know how you can appreciate this upgrade from the Redmi 3, unless there are hidden reasons that make you do so (in the last few months too many false or paid users appeared here on XDA, constantly banned of course). If you like it, that's fine, but do not call it an upgrade, because it isn't at all. (bigger screen but worse quality + bigger battery but less efficient processor = downgrade)
Waiting for m-horse to release its official ROM, the website seems to be slightly work-in-progress with no downloads page.

Review (part 1)
Introduction
This is the CUBOT H3.
Hardware
As a successor to the well-made and unique CUBOT H2, this H3 comes with a smaller display size (unknown reason, a bit non-sense) so it may not be considered as a real successor but more like an H2 Mini 2017 edition, since it comes with the upgraded MT6737 SOC instead of the MT6735 used in H2, plus it comes with more internal storage: 32GB instead of 16GB; a battery capacity upgrade (6000mAh instead of 5000mAh) and the addition of a fingerprint scanner complete the upgrade.
Unboxing
Compared to the H2, there is a minor upgrade when it comes to the included accessories, since it lacks an OTG Cable for power-sharing, but the standard set is still included: 1x Micro-USB Cable, 1x 5V/2A Charger, 1x Quick Start Guide, 2x Certifications Booklets, 1x TPU Cover and the Smartphone (of course). A screen protector is already applied, but i have removed mine since it wasn't in the best conditions.
Even though CUBOT choose to keep the Metal Chassis, on this H3 they had to go for something lighter and probably less sturdy in order not make the device really heavy, since with a 5 inches screen, the extra weight would be noticeable due to the lack of weight distribution.
The device feels solid-enough, no imperfections noticed and the chassis has been slightly rounded in order to make it more ergonomic.
It is 14.55x7.21x1.15cm and weights 209g, probably one of the most compact battery phones i have ever reviewed, and the weight isn't too high considering its battery capacity.
On the front side there is the usual 2.5D curved glass with an IPS panel underneath, and the upper front side of the device features a Front-Facing Camera, an Earpiece, and the Sensors hole that includes Light, Proximity and Gesture Sensors. The usual mono-color (blue only) Notification LED, common on CUBOT devices, is here.
Here you can see the LED in action.
As regards the lower front side there is the soft-keys touch area with Recents, Home and Back keys.
On the back side there is the removable plastic back cover that, at least on my unit, was slightly marked here and there.
The upper rear side of the device features the Camera Sensor supported by a Single-LED - Single-Tone Flashlight, and the Fingerprint Scanner just below in the center. Here you can notice some scratches on the camera lens, scratches already found and not made by me. Pretty odd.
On the lower rear side there isn't anything important at all because the Speaker is positioned on the lower side of the device.
Device
Screen
Following the CUBOT H2 with its superb screen, also this H3 features an high-quality IPS panel with good color accuracy, proper refresh rate and decent white balance. Unfortunately the oleophobic coating isn't excellent though.
Its light sensor supports partial light changes with a maximum brightness of ~422lux, pretty good for outdoor usage.
As regards its viewing angles, there is nothing to report about, perfectly comparable to other high-quality IPS panels.
Camera
Since my camera lens is almost completely scratched, i decided to avoid to take some outdoor shots since the direct sunlight isn't the best when combined with scratches. That's a pity since the OmniVision 13MP camera sensor is able to take some pretty decent shots, at least this is what i was able to notice on other devices featuring the same sensor. Only low-light results will be considered.
As expected from a Single-LED flashlight, the amount of light provided to the sensor isn't really high, so the camera sensor might struggle slightly in low-light conditions.
Even with the low-end MT6737 SOC, this device is able to record 100% smooth videos at 720p25 (probably 720p30 max) with no stutters or lags, and the quality is also pretty good. Impressive.
Photos taken using the front camera are just sufficient, the GalaxyCore GC5024 5MP camera sensor can't do miracles in taking better shots. It is still a 5MP camera sensor.
Audio
Audio Quality is disappointing unfortunately, since the speaker is pretty quiet and lacks mid/low frequencies, plus the Earpiece sounds treble boosted and under-powered. Not the best for voice calls in loud environments.
Luckily the Microphone is fine, pretty average and with no issues to report.
GPS
The GPS works as bad/good as most other devices without GLONASS support, high accuracy outdoors.
Indoors on the left, outdoors on the right.
Telephony, Mobile Network & WiFi
The device comes with full support for European 4G Networks and the antenna, even if the signal is a bit low, is able to provide an excellent data reception with high speeds, even higher than my Redmi Note 4 somehow
As regards the WiFi hardware, it works great even if it doesn't support 5.0GHz networks, reaching almost 48Mbps in download on my 70Mbps VDSL connection, a result that, at least from smartphones, is almost impossible to reach. Well Done CUBOT!
Battery Life
Even though the device is declared to feature a 6000mAh battery, i can't confirm it. Using my USB Tester, the result obtained of ~5492mAh means that ~500mAh of capacity is missing. Weird, especially considering that all CUBOT devices i tested in the past never faced such a serious issue with battery capacity. I may open the device later and check the battery label to be sure.
Running the usual PCMark Battery Test (with WiFi on, Sync on, Airplane Mode off), the result of 18 hours and 23 minutes is quite acceptable for such a large battery, wouldn't have expected a worse result.
This is where CUBOT, just like what happened with another battery phone reviewed recently, made a big mistake in my opinion, since, with such a large battery, they should have provided a Quick Charge (aka MTK Pump Express) charger and not a standard 5V/2A one. As a result, it takes quite a long time to fully charge the battery, more than 3 hours.
Software
Just like most CUBOT devices, and unlike the H2 that was slightly customized, also this one comes with a fully clean Mediatek distribution of Android Nougat 7.0 with September's Security Patches (not the latest, but can be updated with an OTA update). There is no bloatware at all, but there is something funny that i guess has been added by mistake: Power-Saving Mode app! I don't get why, on a battery phone, you would need something like this...
Anyway, the OS runs smooth enough considering the low-end SOC, and there are no customizations at all.
Mediatek Features like MiraVision, Gestures and so on are present.
No Magnetometer/Compass and Gyroscope are here unfortunately.
No malwares detected with Kaspersky Mobile Antivirus using latest definitions. I am testing this new software instead of MalwareBytes just to see which one is more accurate.
It is nice to see the addition of a fingerprint scanner, not present on the H2, and it works reasonably well, not super-fast (takes a while to recognize the finger) but at least it is accurate.
3DMark – GPU Performance is as low as all other MT6737 devices.
AndroBench – Internal Storage performance is excellent considering the CPU.
Antutu Benchmark – I won’t say a lot about this benchmark, this isn’t as reliable as others. I’m providing this just for benchmarks lovers.
Epic Citadel – As you can see, 3D performance is barely sufficient for smooth light gaming.
GeekBench – CPU Performance is nearly as good as other CPUs with the same configuration (4x Cortex-A53), enough to handle almost every type of basic activity.
CPU
Compute
GFXBench – The same thoughts said for 3DMark are valid here.
PCMark – Good Overall performance, the maximum obtainable from this SOC.
Work 2.0
Computer Vision
Storage
Work 1.0
Vellamo – Being an super-heavy benchmark, you can clearly see why this device needs to be considered as low-end.
Conclusions
The CUBOT H3, or H2 Mini 2017 as i call it...a device that confuses me slightly when compared with the predecessor H2. I appreciate that companies still work on 5 inches devices in order to cover all kinds of users, but a 5 inches device with such a big battery...isn't the best idea in my opinion, especially because by decreasing the capacity to, let's say 4300mAh, you can make the device way slimmer and lighter.
Still, as is, it is not a bad device, since it features a great back camera, strong battery life and high-quality screen panel. If an OTA Update improves both earpiece and speaker quality, it may be considered as one of the best 5 inches mediatek-based battery phone.
Something sure is that, if you are a CUBOT H2 user, unless you want a smaller device, then i can't recommend it at all, otherwise, if you are looking for a long-lasting 5 inches low-cost device and nothing better is available for the same price, then i can say that it can be considered.
Pros:
Notification LED
Real Dual-SIM (indipendent slots)
Excellent Screen Quality
Clean Android OS with no bloatware
High-End Antennas Reception (WiFi & 4G)
Cons:
No Gyroscope & Magnetometer/Compass
Real Battery Capacity doesn't match the declared value
Some quality issues here and there (at least with my unit)
Non-sense downgrade from 5.5 inches to 5 inches (compared to the H2)
Disappointing audio quality

I bought this phone and for the price I am very satisfied with it. Though I'd like to switch from stock Android to some custom ROM. Are there any ROMs available for the cubot H3?
Hi ... I have this phone and am (was) very happy with it. Unfortunately I have in an attack of ignorance flashed the nvram, so the imeis are lost. I think I have tried all and everything now with sp_flash tools, android tools, sn_write and engineering mode to get the imeis back but to no avail. The last resort I see would be would be, if somebody were willing to let me have his nvram.bin such that I could use that to restore nvram and THEN try to change the imeis back to my own (happy, of course to receive an "edited" nvram with dummy imeis). Or if there were somebody here who has succesfully solved that same issue and can tell me which of the 99 methods out ther would really for for exactly this phone. Short of that I will buy a second one, grab the nvram off that and the resell it.
I.

Review (part 1)
Introduction
This is the OUKITEL K6.
Hardware
Coming as the first Helio P23 device ever released on the market (correct me if i am wrong), this new K6 should be the successor to the K6000 Plus. It could be easily considered as the second flagship, together with the MIX 2, from OUKITEL since the specs are not bad at all. It comes with 6GB of RAM, 64GB of ROM an
d an huge 6300mAh battery.
Unboxing
Unlike the K8000 reviewed before, this K6 comes with a whole new packaging that also looks more premium, even inside. The amount of included accessories is still the same: 1x Type-C USB Cable, 1x 5V/3A USB Charger (not sure whether this is a Pump Express charger or not), 1x User Manual, 1x SIM Card Removal Tool, 1x Warranty Certificate, 1x OTG Cable, 1x TPU Cover and the Smartphone (of course). A screen protector is already applied.
The K6 doesn't feature anymore a full-metal chassis found on the K6000, but they choose to go with a plastic back cover (not-removable) instead. That's a pity because it is something that makes a device more premium. Anyway, the plastic cover doesn't seem to affects its solidity too much, even though i can notice some minor imperfections where the plastic touches the metal body. Also, i will never understand the need to remove the 3.5mm Headphone Jack on thick devices. There are just no valid reasons that would justify this, and i am not the only one to think the same.
As a battery phone with a 5.99" 18:9 screen and 6300mAh of battery, it is almost obvious to not expect a compact device. It is 15.8x7.61x1.08cm with a weight of 263g, really heavy considering the size. I don't understand why it is so heavy considering the plastic back cover.
This is probably one of the most complete devices i have ever reviewed, since it includes both Front Flashlight and Notification LED (RGB) on the upper front side while still keeping the reasonably thin bezel. Of course there is also a Front Camera, the Earpiece and Light/Proximity sensors.
Nothing to complain about the Notification LED, it is really bright and RGB.
On the lower front side there isn't anything at all.
As regards the back side, it features, as already said, a plastic non-removable cover with a nice-looking light effect. Still, it is plastic so expect to scratch it easily. I may recommend to use a screen protector also on the back in order to not ruin the effect.
The upper rear side of the device features the Camera Sensor with a Dual-LED - Single-Tone Flashlight on the left, and a Fingerprint Scanner just below.
Just like most latest devices, there isn't anything important except the OUKITEL logo on the lower back side.
Device
Screen
Compared to the MIX 2 5.99" 18:9 screen, the one used on the K6 is, in my opinion, not as good as i would have expected. Colors look slightly washed out even after some calibration using MiraVision, and i can notice a minor smearing effect while scrolling menus. It seems to be a common issue for this kind of rounded screens, since i found a similar issue on another device reviewed some weeks ago, so it might be a software issue or just a limit of this first gen of panels. Hopefully in the future this will only get better.
Nothing to complain about the light sensor, and the screen brightness is high enough for a sufficient visibility under direct sunlight.
The rounded corners do not seem to affect viewing angles at all, as good as they should be on a IPS panel.
Camera
Identical to the MIX 2, this K6 features a Samsung 16MP rear camera sensor that, together with the new Helio P23 ISP (Image Signal Processor), does seem to provide some great shots. HDR works decently, and the amount of image noise is not too high, as long as the available light is high enough of course. An overall good result.
Also the Flashlight seems to work properly, no out-of-sync issues neither lack of light. Powerful enough, maybe a dual-tone variant would have been better.
Excellent results as regards the Camcorder. Videos are recorded in 1080p30 with a really stable framerate, no stuttering and high image quality. Currently the best Mediatek device ever tested in this area.
The front-camera sensor is, unfortunately, unknown (was not able to obtain the codename) but it should be an 8MP camera sensor interpolated to 13MP. Thanks to the Flashlight, it is possible to obtain some pretty decent shots even in low-light conditions. Pretty average quality.
Audio
It is pretty common for most smartphone to not feature a really powerful speaker, especially with latest models where, due to the bezels reduction, the space for a big chamber is slowly decreasing. This K6 is not exception. It doesn't feature a really loud speaker unit, but the sound is clean and there is a minor amount of low frequencies.
Unfortunately though, just like on the MIX 2, the Earpiece seem to produce a slightly distorted sound at highest volume. This is where the lack of a proper sound chamber is noticeable. Anyway, it is loud enough.
Nothing to complain about the Microphone, it is properly calibrated, and the lack of a secondary microphone does not seem to affect much the quality. Perfectly usable for calls and video recording.
GPS
Excellent results for the GPS. An high amount of satellites gets locked, even indoors.
Not a bad result.
For some reason, Mediatek keeps providing a WiFi N-only card even for last-gen mid-range chipsets, thus there is no WiFi AC support on this device. Still, 5GHz WiFi N networks are perfectly working. Connected to my home network, the device is able to use my internet bandwidth completely.
Battery Life
Starting from the Battery Capacity, i was not able to confirm the 6300mAh battery capacity declared by OUKITEL, instead i get a result of ~6090mAh. They declare a minimum of 6000mAh, but a typical of 6300mAh is definitely unrealistic considering it (it is usually ~100mAh higher from the min, not that much).
Battery Life is just outstanding compared to the previous gen Helio P20/25. The PCMark Battery Life test provided a result of 22 hours and 5 minutes, able to last at least two days of heavy usage (or one if you don't sleep...just kidding). Test run at minimum brightness, with WiFi on and Sync on.
OUKITEL seem to be really proud of the choice to use a 5V/3A charger (Pump Express 3?) for this device. They are not alone, OnePlus also uses a 5V charger with even higher current. Based on some testing made by external websites, this reduces the device temperature while keeping the charging speed high. Is it really making a difference compared to a standard up to 12V quick charger? Well, i was not able to notice that much difference as regards the charging speed, but the device felt noticeable cooler to the touch.
Software
Different from previous devices reviewed in the past, this is the first one that comes with Android 7.1 instead of 7.0, probably due to the newer BSP provided by Mediatek for the Helio P23. Unfortunately it isn't Android 8.0 Oreo, but i guess it will be updated really soon.
The OS is clean, there is no bloatware pre-installed excluding a third-party keyboard that can be disabled, and it runs pretty smooth with no lags neither slow-downs.
Something even more interesting about this K6 is the NFC Antenna. As far as i know, this is the first time OUKITEL implements this feature, so well done for this choice. Unfortunately i can't test Android Pay here in Italy so...i need your user feedback about its compatibility.
All Mediatek Goodies such as MiraVision, Gestures (double-tap to unlock included) and others are included.
An extra feature has been included with this model: Face ID/Face Unlock. How does it work? It just uses the front facing camera to recognize your face, do not rely on it if you care about your device's security. Period (also clearly written in the warning).
Both Gyroscope and Magnetometer/Compass are present.
No malwares detected with Malware-Bytes Anti-Malware using latest definitions.
As regards the Fingerprint Scanner, it is really accurate, but slightly slow. Personally, i prefer accuracy more than speed, but if an OTA Update will be able to speed-up the reading process, it would be even better.
3DMark – Even though this Helio P23 comes with a new-gen Mali-G71 GPU, it is less powerful compared to the one found on the Helio P25. Not a bad result, but pretty average.
AndroBench – No words about this result, it is just outstanding for an eMMC 5.1.
Antutu Benchmark – I won’t say a lot about this benchmark, this isn’t as reliable as others. I’m providing this just for benchmarks lovers.
GeekBench – For some reasons, it fails to get an internet connection. To know more: http://support.primatelabs.com/discussions/geekbench/23518-not-internet-connection-detected
GFXBench – This benchmark is just too much for not high-end devices.
PCMark – Somehow this benchmark gets higher results compared to the Helio P25. As i always say, software optimizations are more important compared to raw performance, and this is the proof.
Work 2.0
Computer Vision
Storage
Work 1.0
V1 - GPU Benchmark Pro – Using the Snapdragon 820 preset, 3D performance seem to be a bit low for really heavy games. Consider to reduce graphics quality for a smoother experience.
Vellamo – Overall good results considering the CPU, somewhere in between the MT6750T and the Helio P25.
Conclusions
Being the first devices ever released by OUKITEL with such high specs, together with the MIX 2, i am not so surprised to see that some areas are not as good as they should have been. They always focused on battery life more than performance, and this new strategy can only help them to get better and better, device after device.
This is an overall good device, i like the thin bezels and also the new Helio P23 that seems to be way more power efficient compared to previous alternatives provided by Mediatek. Still, the lack of an headphone jack on such a thick device is really non-sense.
I recommend it to those looking for a battery phone that features almost everything, with no great requirements for gaming.
Pros:
Android 7.1 instead of the usual 7.0
NFC Support
Notification LED
Gyroscope & Magnetometer/Compass
Excellent Battery Life
Cons:
No 3.5mm Headphone Jack (adapter-only)
Not released with Android 8 Oreo
Noticeable smearing effect while scrolling menus/pages
Really heavy considering the plastic back cover
Requires longer than standard USB plugs
