Backup of phone's stock ROM including stock recovery - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear All,
I was wondering if it would be possible to make a complete backup of my LG G4's stock ROM and recovery using TWRP (by booting into TWRP with fastboot, but not flashing it and then making a full nandroid backup including recovery).
Does anybody know if this is possible (I haven't tried it)?

Thanks for your reply - it's good to know a method exists (especially for a locked device).
Just out of interest, would the TWRP method work?

TWRP requires an unlocked device.
fastboot boot will not work on Nougat based firmware.

[ROOT][INFO][MARSHMALLOW] How to Root Moto X Force 6.0 [TESTED]

Hello guys,
Here I'm sharing a little info about rooting Moto X Force (marshmallow) for those who don't know. Do not flash BETA-SuperSU-v2.64-20151220185127.zip it's giving lots of force closes. Note: I'm using EU version firmware.
This method is only for Moto X Force and not for Droid Turbo 2
Steps:
Install 6.0 OTA or either manually....
Download BETA-SuperSU-v2.62-3-20151211162651.zip
Download Moto X Style recovery from here
Go to bootloader and write the following command....
fastboot boot twrp-2.8.7.0-clark.img
Click to collapse
Flash BETA-SuperSU-v2.62-3-20151211162651.zip
Tested on XT1580_KINZIE_RETEU_6.0_MPK24.78-8_cid7......
Reserved.....
Please edit first post with completely guide instead of "Described in other threads about how to boot Moto X Style Recovery..." Beginners need full lazy guide, experienced users don't need anything at all.
You're suggesting nandroid backup, have you tried to restore backup you made?

Good, you confirmed that clark recovery fully works. It's only upside down. I'll drop pm/email to twrp team to build recovery for us.
Hey guys!!! I'm not new on android stuff but this explanation for root and twrp installation in Moto X Force are kind a vague! Could anyone explain how to this procedure better?
Is there any bug by using Moto X Style twrp?]
Thank you guys!!!

So, I unlocked BL on 5.1.1. Do I need to Unlock again after upgrading to 6.0?

Just wondering because someone wrote that, after flashing manually or via OTA, you had to Unlock everytime.
Saturday when I'm back at home I'll root again.
Last time I got BootLoop after instaling SuperSu

Once unlocked, remains unlocked. Even for unofficial unlocks using exploit. At least it was the case for now. Moto used to have hardware fuse, which burns out after bl unlock. Not sure for Force.

Actually I got answer but didn't have time to test. Also I asked can I share the link on the forum but didn't get answer yet. It's new year after all. If someone is willing to test, send me pm.
Just to let you know, few of you sent me pm and I sent link for twrp back. According testers, it's still upside down. Already sent pm to the dev. Waiting for response.

1. Is the bootloader unlocked? If yes, flash TWRP and wipe everything. Flash back stock recovery and flash stock firmware via ADB Sideload.
2. If no, just reflash stock firmware via stock recovery using ADB Sideload.
There's many guides about these around XDA. You're better to use search function to search on how to do bla bla.

Easiest way is:
Open SuperSu
Goto Settings->Full Unroot
Reboot after unrooting. Then do hard reset after rebooting

No working recovery for Oos 4.0 and I'm softbricked :(

Hi
I updated to Oos 4.0. Then flashed TWRP. It boots into recovery but I can't see any files when I attempt to flash anything. I need to decrypt and from what I've read, that requires a data format. I tried that and now my system won't boot.
So as it stands, I have an unlocked bootloader, I can access TWRP but without being able to see the files and I can't boot up my phone.
Please help.
Edit: Latest TWRP (3.0.4) worked with Nougat and problem solved. Thanks everyone.
Use a different TWRP.. The latest one should support encrypted. Keep in mind booting on encrypted in twrp can take a long time so do not panic!

you need the latest unreleased beta twrp. I would flash a full OOS as well to make sure everything is clean. I had the same problem and its a 10 min fix with the right twrp

My fault, here https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=15934#downloads look for this file: "twrp-3.0.3-x_blu_spark_v20-op3_op3t.img". This should 100% work!
v3.0.4-1 should work.
Thanks everyone, I used a newer TWRP and it worked

custom recovery on my OnePlus 5t without using a PC

I wonder if it is possible to install a custom recovery on my OnePlus 5t without the use of a PC. The bootloader is already unlocked but I lost my existing recovery while updating to the latest OxygenOS Version. I searched XDA but couldn't find a guide for that.
Thanks for your help.

Well I've never personally installed a custom recovery without a PC. If you're still rooted you can maybe try flashify, but you probably lost root too.

I'm at the camping site at the moment and I don't have access to any PC... Is it possible to root my device without a PC?

Magisk way of rooting - how to get boot.img?

As some of you certainly know, Magisk manager has capability of rooting system.
The needed thing is kernel image, boot.img, very the same which seats in the device.
If the stock ROM was available to download then the kernel image would be possible to obtain by pulling it out from the ROM file (preferably zip).
So where to get the stock ROM file, please?

I'm thinking about the LG tablet I had. No root for it so someone did the Magisk thing also. Tablet was easily unlocked allowing us to put the image in place.
For the Q7, once a boot image is modified how would you get it in place on a running ROM? Far as I know the device is still locked down.

LGextract.exe did not work for me. Even If the boot img could be modified, as @marcdw stated "how would you get it in place on a running ROM?"
Without unlocking the bootloader this is not possible.
Kingroot, kingoroot will not work on this device atm, I've tried every method possible that's why I gave up on root on this device.
Maybe some day it will but I doubt it.

Sorry, not gonna kick a dead horse.
Even if the boot img could be modified with magisk, there still is no way to install to device without unlocked bootloader.
And have you refferred to this method ?
What do you think of these instructions:
https://www.techdroidtips.com/lg-q7-2018-unlock-bootloader/
especially this:
In conclusion, Android versions later than lollipop come with an option of OEM Unlock in the developer options. So, its quite easy to unlock the bootloader on any latest smartphone devices. And Still, some of the smartphones may not come with this option. Hence, in order to unlock the bootloader, you need to manually do it via PC.

Not on the list
However this list is extremely scarce. It seems something is wrong with it.
This is why wanted to try. The first obstacle is it is impossible to reboot into bootloader (which is needed to obtain device ID). When the command "adb reboot bootloader" is executed then the phone simply reboots into system again. (Attention: when "adb reboot recovery" is executed then it does Factory Reset!)
How to make it boot into bootloader? Is there any keys combination for it?
