My apologies if this is a dead horse, but with the subject terms in the search box, I get overwhelmed with unrelated results.
Has anyone figured out a way to force the Note 2 to switch between access points? I have two APs which have identical SSID and security settings. The Note 2 shows only a single AP in the WIFI settings, but using apps that show the mac, I can see which on is the active AP.
The problem is, as I walk away from AP1, and the signal drops to well below 50%, and the AP2 signal reaches 100%, the Note 2 stubbornly refuses to let go of AP1. I can be literally be standing beneath AP2 with 100% RSSI strength, and the only way to get the Note 2 to switch is to manually force it to do so.
I've spent the last few hours searching for solutions. Nearly all point to either enterprise-class hardware, or they give up over the fact that roaming aggressiveness is 100% client-based. If the WIFI chipset can't be configured to drop the weaker signal, then no matter what AP hardware combination I have, it won't improve.
Has anyone had luck with this?
For reference, I'm using an Asus RT-N56U (AP1) and an Asus RT-N66U (router/AP2). AP1 is running the Padvin modified stock Asus firmware, and AP2 is running bone stock (though I have tried it with the latest Shibby TomatoUSB 115 AIO firmware).

I've had a similar situation, download the app "Best WIFI" from the play store, it will connect you to the wifi with strongest connection! Good luck.
i have a similar router setup to yours.
Just a FYI... No matter what app I installed, "wifi seamless roaming" never worked on my Note 2. So, if i were on a skype / viber call, the call would get disconnected when the AP switched.
I've read (and THINK I understand) what smart switch is supposed to do (going all the way back to the Note4.
And it seems like the complete opposite of what wifi calling does.
Anyone care to explain the difference or real reasons one is used over the other?
Also on a related note, in the developer options category there is an option to turn on "Aggressive Wi-Fi cell h.."
With the explanation "switch from wifi to mobile networks more quickly when wifi signal is weak"
Kind of self explanatory and my question would be real work use. If you have unlimited data, any reason you would NOT want to check this?

Smart switch imports the data from your old phone when you switch to a Samsung phone; WiFi calling routes voice traffic over WiFi when available.
Sorry, I meant to say Smart NETWORK Switch. It says your phone will be connected to a mobile network if Wifi becomes unstable.
And Wi-fi calling kinda of says the exact opposite. If mobile becomes unstable, it will switch to Wifi......

Many times.. even when the wifi signal is weak, as long as wifi is turned on, the phone will remain connected to it. This especially happens when you are just pulling out of your house and you are trying to get to google maps for directions or something.. but because the phone is still connected to your home wifi, it'll remain so and since the connection is weak, you won't be able to browse or anything and google maps may say "no network connection".
I believe what Smart Network Switch does, is that in such cases, it'll immediately switch to mobile data.

This happens to me every morning in my driveway trying to route Waze. I get a weak wifi signal that the phone hangs onto and I get a no network error from Waze.
My wife has the S8 and I have the S8+. After the latest update (July 9-10'ish) both of our phones are having problems with our Mesh WiFi, but not our non-Mesh WiFi. We don't have issues with the connectivity to the actual WiFi, that always stays connected, but every few minutes, we'll get an exclamation point next to the WiFi signal meter, and our Internet connectivity drops. When I check WiFi connections during this time, it shows "Internet may not be available". Then, after 1-3 minutes or so, it's working fine again. While this is happening, none of our other devices have any problems with Internet connectivity.
T-Mobile had me boot into Safe Mode, and the problem didn't happen at all in safe mode. So, I did a master rest, and with just factory apps installed, it was happening again. T-Mobile asked me to wipe the cache partition. While trying to boot to that menu, my phone went into a boot loop, then after trying several different button combinations, it just turned off and wouldn't power back on again. So, T-Mobile sent me a replacement. Since receiving the replacement, I have not installed the update, and I have not had the problem on my phone at all. But, there's still my wifes phone. T-Mobile tells me I'm the only one having this problem, so they don't know what the solution is.
Our Mesh WiFI system is fairly new, so I kept the old WiFI active as a fall back option. There are no problems when connecting to that SSID, so I'm thinking the update has caused some issues when jumping between access points on the mesh system. I was also thinking maybe it's a double NAT issue, since my modem doesn't have a true bridge mode option. (My modem hands my mesh WiFi router a 192.168.1.xxx IP, but my devices that connect to the mesh WiFi get a 192.168.0.xxx IP) I tried putting the Mesh WiFi in the DMZ and making sure it gets the public IP. That didn't work. The WiFi manufacturer had me open ports 500 & 4500 to the WiFi router. That didn't work.
Does anyone have any other ideas for me? At the point, T-Mobile is telling me that it's my WiFI because it doesn't happen when connected to the non-mesh WiFi. But, it didn't start happening until the last update, and it's not happening on my replacement phone. We rely very heavily on WiFi calling, so this has been problematic. Obviously I can connect my wife's phone to the old system, but we don't get full coverage in our house from it, which is why we went to a mesh system.
I welcome and appreciate all suggestions.

I'm having the same exact problem with my S8+ and my netgear orbi, all was good until about a month ago, and I've tried pretty much everything, and the exclamation point still comes every few minutes. I can't wait to get rid of this phone honestly. And I've had EVERY Samsung phone to date, and this one has given me the most problems by far. I am on my 5th S8+. HURRY NOTE 8!

Had the same issue. Go into developer options and turn on Wi-Fi verbose logging. Fixed it for me. Try it out

Go into developer settings and turn on Wi-Fi verbose logging.
Had same issue and now it's gone. Hope it helps

Other fix is enabling guest network on your router. It worked for me with Netgear Orbi.
I have an orbi and the above fix didn't quite fix my troubles. After enabling guest mode, then what? Use guest mode? Or does just the act of enabling guest mode change something? Thanks in advance.
Wi-Fi Verbose Logging
Yep! This is a problem the carries and Samsung have chosen to ignore so far. I have the exact same issue with two S8's in my household. Everything, all devices, LG, Apple, HTC, Google, Amazon, PC's, etc., including the S8's worked on our mesh wifi network until the two S8's took on the latest update. After that point neither S8 device would consistently work properly on the mesh network. While all other devices, including a Note 5 and Samsung Smart TV, among a plethora of other devices, continued to work flawlessly. It is definitely tied to the latest update on the S8 devices. I reset the wifi, the phones, etc., including factory resets but that did not solve the problem. Verizon sent 2 replacement phones and we have not allowed the latest update to load on the phones and the replacement phones are working perfectly! The latest software version that screws up mesh wifi connectivity is: NRD90M.G950USQU1AQG4. Beware. So far, neither Verizon or Samsung will acknowledge the issue. Only after hours of trouble shooting and persistence on my part about this issue being a well documented situation in on-line forums did they respond by saying they found one case similar to mine but they did not see this as a wide spread issue. Well, for anyone with a mesh wifi network, this is a big issue and irritating as heck! Come on Samsung! Own up to the issue, support your customers, and fix the problem. The evidence that there is a problem at this point is pretty convincing. All one has to do is go on-line and search the issue and bam, there it is. All somebody at Samsung has to do is take an S8 load the latest update and try it on a mesh wifi network. Really try it that is... It work at first but as soon as the mesh network moves the device to a channel or frequency that is less congested, the device will lose connectivity. Sometimes it is sporadic but eventually it becomes a more persistent problem to the point of uselessness. Either put out a patch or push out the wifi portion prior update for us to revert back to. Don't call us liars and ignore the issue. Hard to achieve customer loyalty and retention with behavior like that. I've already had to muddle through the Note 7 fiasco with the 3 recalls and final discontinuing of the device itself. Samsung, don't leave me hanging again.
UPDATE:
Turning on the Wi-Fi verbose logging did not solve my issue. It seemed to work at first. However, after a few minutes it said it was no longer connected to the web when trying to load some very common url's. However, this time there is no "!" next to the Wi-Fi signal on the S8. It now just stops working. Wish I hadn't let it update on the replacement phone. Again working just fine before the NRD90M.G950USQU1AQG4 update.
Help....anyone!?

After enabling guest-network, forget the main SSID and connect to guest-network. If you "allow guest to see each other..." you will be able to see other devices, like printer, Sonos, Roku, etc.
I tried the fix above and did not work for me either. Going back to login in in guest-network.

In summary, the WiFi stack on OnePlus 11 is quite unstable compared to other smartphones (that are also based on Qualcomm SoC with built-in modems).
First off, I've two 802.11 AC (WiFi 5) routers. Compared to my Asus (ROG 5) and Motorola (Moto G 5G Plus) phones, I've noticed that my new OnePlus has better reception for both mobile and WiFi networks. E.g., at the same location where ASUS has say -30db signal, OnePlus 11 shows -27 or -28db. So performance wise, it's fantastic, however, stability of WiFi connectivity is subpar. Between performance and stability, obviously I always prefer stability. I've up-to-date OnePlus 11 CPH2449 device (CPH2449_11_A.08).
I've been using the phone for about 5 days & these are the three distinctive WiFi problems with OnePlus 11 that I've observed in that duration:
1. WiFi dieing silently:
I've seen many times that all of a sudden the WiFi symbol will disappear. Then checking the status of the connectivity will show that it had silently dropped/died. Sometimes, it'll reconnect on its own within 10 odd seconds. When it doesn't, then toggling WiFi off and then on may help. When even that doesn't help, then toggling airplane mode on and then off becomes necessary/only-way to re-establish the connection. During these episodes, the phone is barely 2 metres away from the routers with a clear/unobstructed line of sight with them. Needless to say, neither ASUS nor Moto exhibit this problem while these episodes are playing out with OnePlus 11.
2. VoWiFi dieing silently:
While operating the phone (non-phone-call situations), a number of times I've seen that the VoWiFi logo would drop and VoLTE logo would appear. Interestingly enough, within a matter of 10+ odd seconds, it'd re-establish the VoWiFi connectivity on its own.
3. WiFi not roaming efficiently:
When moving faraway from one router and close to another, it doesn't roam to the closest one, instead holding onto the furthest one. But putting the phone down for say a minute with the screen off, triggers the roaming to the closest router! WiFi assistant neither helps nor hinders this behaviour.
In short, it'd seem the whole WiFi stack is riddled with stability issues. I've done "Reset Network settings", which didn't help with those issues.
Am I the only one facing these issues?

Just downloaded over 130GB over Wifi and ftp server on the phone without a single interruption. Took over 3 hours and no problem.
I have similar issues. My wifi will randomly drop out and then pick up again in that time sometimes it will say internet offline. I've been noticing it the last week or so when that happens.
I've escalated my problems to OnePlus support. After a number of discussions, I think we got the winner: Disabling ipv6 in my WiFi network seems to stabilise it!
I've been trying this only for the past few hours, but it's proving positive so far. Still I'd prefer to test this over at least a day or two.
I've had WiFi just stop working finds no networks. Even turning the toggle off and back on again doesn't work. But after a reboot works fine again. Mines a euro model on fw09

I've seen similar behaviour. Turning flight mode on and then off helped me on those circumstances. Mine too EU version CPH2449.
Now, if the root cause is identified and addressed, then it ought not to even regularly disconnect from WiFi in the first place, so subsequent problems like reconnection issues can be avoided then.
Disabling ipv6 has proven to be a good workaround for vastly improving my phone's WiFi stability. Of course, they need to identify and resolve the problem that's making WiFi & ipv6 incompatible though.
