Xtron's PB86MTVP and DAB + div. Problems
Hello,
have since last week the Xtron PB86MTVP in the car with the ordered USB DAB + Dongle from Xtron. I connected the dongle to the green USB port (short cable) from the radio. Reception and quality are okay so far, but if I plug in a USB stick (no matter whether the red or yellow) USB cable, the radio starts to falter and has repeatedly dropouts at the reception. As soon as I remove the USB stick, the playback problems are gone and the radio is back to normal. Have used different USB sticks, from 2 to 8 GB and with all the same problem, have you formatted with FAT32 and synonymous already formatted on the radio, the stick is then only music in MP3 format on it, otherwise no other data.
Have already written to the manufacturer, but I could not say today why it may be.
Greetings Oli

Does anyone know if I could get a USB GPS receiver (such as the GlobalSat BU-353) to work with my elf if I connect using a female-mini usb converter?
I'm thinking that this would draw less power than using a bluetooth GPS receiver - would this actually be the case?
Cheers
K
i would say yes bluetooth draw more power but gps's are normaly used in cars where one can charge ones pda at the same time
Yes, but with a bluetooth receiver I'd end up using two chargers rather than one and I'd also like to use away from a vehicle. Would the usb connection charge as well as 'talk'. I'm not entirely sure how standard USB maps to mini USB to be honest ...
i dont believe that a wired gps device can charge the pda
also with htc devices (with 1 exception) cant use other usb devices
as they cant usb host
Thanks, it sounds like I'd be better going for a bluetooth GPS
Spend a few pennys more and get the entire gps unit. Are you realy going to be able to operate your phone as a gps interface while driving? Sounds like a great way to get a ticket ot me state side.
OK I just got my adapter it is the official Samsung OEM MHL adapter. I had just one problem but I now have three.
Problem #1: I am not sure if its possible or how to go about doing this. OK I use a nice 27" HP 2711x LED Monitor on my bedroom with my Xbox 360 connected via VGA, my gaming rig connected via HDMI, and now I have my MHL adapter connected via HDMI. The problem is that my Monitor is only a monitor and it has no internal speakers, but I have a pair of external speakers that I use for sound the speakers have 3 input options. I can connect directly into the subwoofer portion via the red and white RCA cables(this is how my Xbox is connected), I can connect with my basic 3.5mm auxiliary cable plugged into the speakers input jack(this is the way that I connect my phone to play music), or I can connect via the inline Auxiliary cable that the speakers have built in(which is the way my computer is connected). Im not an idiot when it comes to Tech I know that HDMI cables handle both sound and video but since my monitor only takes the video part I can't get any audio when streaming from my phone to it, so I plugged my speakers inline auxiliary cable to my phone so that the sound would reroute to it, but that didn't work either it produced no sound =/, so I also tried to just plug in my headphones into my phone and again no sound. So are there any work arounds or ways to make it so my phone will let me output sound via its 3.5mm headphone jack or even its loud speaker? Or is there a seperate cable/jack I can purchase to split the HDMI cables video and sound, and make the sound output via either 3.5mm audio jack or red and white RCA cables, and let the video output via HDMI?
Problem #2: OK my MHL adapter was working video wise but today I plugged it all up and it wouldn't work at all my monitor kept saying no input detected so I was sad and I decided to remove my phones battery to do a soft reset. And it fixed the problem so I started web browsing etc and all of a sudden it stopped working again. Is there a work around for this or reason or fix?
Problem #3: Is there anyway to make the output quality full HD? Because when I am outputting and on the browser its like the resolution is so off which results in everything being huge and somewhat pixelated.
Sorry for the length I like for my post to be as in depth as possible.

I'll try to answer your questions to the best of my abilities, as I have a MHL adapter
1) The only way to get sound out of your phone while it is connected to MHL is to plug something into the headphone jack of your phone. Hook up your MHL adapter first, make sure it is showing video on the monitor, then plug in one of these bad boys to your phone - http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...d=1021809&p_id=5604&seq=1&format=1#largeimage and connect the RCA ends to your audio system.
2) Try swapping out your charger to see if that helps. Also, make sure you are using an official charger. I had an el-cheapo chinese charger that made my MHL flicker every now and again and when I used the official charger that came with the phone the problem went away
3) There's no way to change the resolution as far as I can tell / see. Are you on a stock ROM? If no, try to flash the stock rom temporarily and see if this fixes the problem you're having. I always get 1080p (or that's what my TV says) when I hook up my phone to my TV and monitor.
I have a rooted stock SIII... When I first bought the phone everything was working just fine. I would load Pandora, plug in my phone to my car Aux jack and enjoy.
I hadn't actually used that functionality for about a week and during that time I did root my phone ( so not sure if rooting caused this issue ). Anyway, when I am at the gym, I can listen to the music just fine with my headphones. Even receive phone calls and the whole nine.
When I get into my car and plug in my phone to the Aux jack.. Doesn't work.
Here is the strange behavior though. If I take the cable ( unplugged from the car ) and plug it into the phone.. The phone reads "Headset connected". As soon as I plug in the other end... It disconnects.
I have tested the cable on my friend iPod and other Android devices and the cable works fine. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this or knows what I might be able to do.
well if the cable works fine with other devices then i would say try to reflash stock rooted rom... if that doesn't fix it which it should then i would lastly unroot and see if the problem goes away... prolly just the rom may not be reading the headphone jack voltage correctly for some reason...

Are you also plugging in the USB port to a power adapter? I've found many cars have grounding issues between the Aux audio jack and the chassis ground. Symptoms include odd behavior like you list, and weird buzz or whine in the audio when both Aux in and power adapters are used.
If this is the case and unplugging the usb solves your problem you could get an inline filter /ground isolater that will solve the problem.

Sounds like a short in the aux cable. It shouldn't show the cable connected when not plugged in to just the aux cable. Try a different aux cable.

Hi Folks,
Please forgive (and link) me if this has been discussed elsewhere, but I've not been able to find much..
I'm trying to build a sort of car dock so I can charge my phone, play music and satnav through my cars head unit and maybe take calls...
I've got the charging covered by using a USB cable (with a USB OTG adapter on the end so that my phone goes into Car Dock mode when it's plugged in) and 12v-USB adapter which are both going to be hidden behind the dash and fed from a 12v accessory feed.
I can butcher a line in on my cars head-unit (VW Gamma in a mk4 Golf) and would like to feed this using the same USB-OTG cable, rather than a separate 3.5mm jack connection.
I've been able to find people who have rigged up a cable like this for other phones, connecting the L/R to the USB data lines and ground to ground to effectively provide a line-out. But I haven't been able to to get the same going with my Desire Z. I've rigged this up to my phone and it opens the car dock and charges, but still plays audio over it's external speaker as it usually would.
Does anyone know if there's a way to get my Desire Z to output audio over a USB(OTG) cable please?
Thanks in advance,
'tunes
When I drove a Taxi a couple of years back I had my SGSI connected to the car stereo with a small FM transmitter. This got its power and powered my phone, through the USB port, via the cars cigarette lighter socket. Spotify supplied the music and Google maps the navigation. I did not try, but guess that a bluetooth headset would have worked if I'd had one. I should mention that the phone did discharge despite being on 'charge'! I guess constant streaming of both music and map data over a data network, full brightness and the charge to the FM transmitter was a bit much for the usb charger
Hi, apologies if this has been answered elsewhere ... I searched, and the similar threads were all much too involved for me. And some essentially outdated.
On my twice-yearly drives between NY and AZ, often on backroads, listening to music via cloud is not an option. And I want greater variety of music than storage on my GSM Galaxy Nexus -- rooted and running Slim Bean 4.3 build 2 [soon to be Slim Kat or whatever it'll be called] -- can handle without messing up performance and other functions.
So I think what I want is
to hook my thumb drive up to the phone
have a player app pull music from it on the fly, while on the road. Not just something I'll manually move files on and off of when I'm not driving.
I need to power the phone from the car's power. And thumb drives need power, too, right?
The selection of cables on ebay, etc., is daunting, and I don't understand the "host" aspect, so not sure whether just any offered Y cable with male USB (for thumb drive), male micro USB (to plug into phone) and female micro USB (to plug power cable into) will get that done. Also don't understand "A" vs. "B" variants of USB, except by appearance.
Plus I don't have the time before I start my drive for anything that ships directly from Asia, which can take up to a month.
Is what I want possible, and if so can anyone recommend a particular solution and particular vendor for delivery from North America to New York?
Am not an expert, but I haven't read any threads on attaching a USB drive to a GN. I also drive long distance and listen to music on my GN. Fortunately I have a 32GB GN, holds all my music. Also, my auto radio has an aux port, so hooking up the GN to the radio is a no brainer. I just use the normal auto charger to keep the GN juiced up.. If you have an aux port on your radio, another option is to simply buy a MP3 player that has the storage you need (they a pretty cheap these days)..
Nope!
Phone is 16GB, doesn't hold all of my music ... and I'm not replacing it. Car is 11 years old, doesn't have aux ... and I'm not replacing it. I use a bluetooth hands-free to bounce my music to FM radio. I want one device -- my phone -- to handle music, navs, and phone, in a coordinated manner, for the least distraction while driving. Even if no distraction while driving is even smarter!
Anybody else -- off-the-shelf correct cable that will charge the phone while playing my music from a thumb drive? Or similar SD card solution?
