Literally just got the phone and what I'm noticing in pretty much the majority of the images displayed on it (from g+, fb, BBC news, Google search etc) is that the quality of the pictures is noticeably bad i.e lots of grain etc around them, lower res etc
If you click on the photo it then renders fine, I've never noticed this on any phone before, and unsure if it's a setting somewhere?
I'm on WiFi so it's not my operator compressing photos or anything like that

If you look at the detail in the tattoos its very clear that the XL 2 is noticeably worse

That's just scaling for the Google home feed. If you look at the image where it came from- Twitter, it's fine. I looked on both the app and the Chrome version, same quality.

Was just about to say that. Rendering is dependent on the application not the device. If the issue was device caused then the homescreen would contain the same low resolution quality.

Yeah I get that, but what's weird to me is that in the same app with the same image on two different devices the image is noticeably worse

I love my s4 camera and thought moving to note 3 would give me the same experience but it's not. It seems in low light or at night when I use flash the pictures are not as sharp. On my s4 I can see good details when I zoom in like being able to read small texts or pattern on a fabric.

I dont have an s4 to compare to but I agree that the photos are not coming in that sharp... I wonder if we have defective devices? my note 2 takes better shots.

Just noticed it mentioned on some reviews. I think the problem is so minor to samsung that they won't bother doing anything about it.

It seems that most models are missing a night mode. I can't find it anywhere on the T-Mobile one, so I assume that it's missing on here too. That would likely help quite a bit.

Samsung removed the separate toggle for it on the note 3 and implemented it into the "auto stabilization". But that doesn't help my issue unfortunately.

Here's a sample. You can see that on the note 3 it can't pick up the surface details on the plastic bezel compared to the s4. This is a zoomed in portion of the actual image.

I've tried on various occasions to take some landscape panoramic photos and they always end up dipping in the middle. I know from the thread for photos by Pixel it can do very level panoramics but I can never get it to work. I line the dots up and stand still rotating my body to get the shots.
Is there a technique or am I missing something in the camera app I should set? Would appreciate any feedback that helps me improve the photos I take.

Care to share an example? Are you following the recommended way to take it by rotating your phone on the same axis and not your body? It's a little awkward but you can get some great results.

use a tri-pod. very rarely will they come out great when doing it by hand.
No tripod and came out fine. With practice and good technique it can happen more often than not.

I cannot upload a photo, keep getting a 500 error. Image the horizon as a line goes ------___------.
I do rotate my body, but from posts it looks like that may be the issue. Rotate the phone seems the advice. I'll have a go this weekend and see how it goes.
Thanks for the feedback people.
Working here, definitely rotate on phone axis, rotating around my body also causes imperfections

Thanks for the feedback, doing it properly (move hand, not body) has improved my panoramics and I'm getting consistently level horizons.
Next time I should read the "Tips" when displayed
Got my new 3a XL and there are no pixel wallpapers. Even the default wallpaper is not a pixel wallpaper.
What the hell?

I find the lack of other items (especially #teampixel swag) equally odd - and especially given the hashtag appears on the packaging itself. Is the wallpaper at least available on the Play Store? (I have complained about the lack of #teampixel swag with the #missedopportunity - aimed directly at Google - this is the first wide-targeting Google -approved device since the Nexus days - and the first wide-target Pixel in North America at all - and Google - which is normally at least decent at merchandising - blows it THIS big?)
Not worth getting revved up, the apks for the wallpaper are available and can be installed without root.

I was referring to things like hats, Ts, etc.
Have been taking night time pics of the same objects, this one was taken using Note 10+ and the same pics by OP6 and S10e are left far in the dust behind. The steeple here is being illuminated, the bottom part only catches some light from the street but the monument in front is totally shaded by a large tree.
Huge improvement but it takes a long time for the camera to process. It won't be easy getting night time pictures of moving objects like friends at the club or on the street.
The picture looks amazing

It's nothing major, I was just messing with the camera. Tinkering around. But I liked it for some odd reason.

it's really something to have a phone camera capable of doing all this stuff and still, the race for the best camera/phone continues, who knows what they gonna come up with next and then after that etc...etc
Some "live focus" studies, these pics are heavily downsized here - the originals are about 18MB each. I should use the last pic with some superimposed text as my personal greetings card for the holidays:

This one is at the height of night.
Foggy rainy night in Chicago.
What is going on February 13th? I tried googling it, but no luck. I literally have mine boxed up to go back, debating if I should keep it lol.
Speaking of teasing, where did you hear anything regarding February 13th regarding Google or Pixel?

Ah, that one just refers to a teaser they made for the Pixel 6 with a focus on the true tone camera capability, they will release/show a video about it in the half-time of the next Super Bowl.
It's a new marketing campaign with the slogan #SeenOnPixel, designed to sell more of the sold-out Pixel 6.
There's nothing new, it's just a video about the Pixel we already have.
[Update: Airs] Pixel 6 gets camera & Real Tone-focused Super Bowl ad featuring Lizzo
Google's increased advertising for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will continue at the Super Bowl with a focus on the camera's Real Tone capability...
