Hi guys,
My A5 2017 charges very slow. It happens both in normal charging as well as fast charging mode. Up to 80% charging is OK (within 90-100 minutes), however after 80, it gets stuck at sometimes at 85, sometimes 85 and most of the time at 90%. In fast charging mode, it takes another 90 minutes to charge from 90-100% (that means 90 minutes for 10%) . That means there is no advantage of having fast charging mode in our devices, as it takes 3 hours to charge the device. Earlier it didn't happen, but now it happens again and again. I tried following steps, but all in vain:
1. Changed charging adapter as well cable (brand new) from service center.
2. Tried to charge in different sockets.
4. Tried to charge the device in switched off mode.
3. Reset the whole device 2-3 times.
4. Also, while charging the phone, device temperate is OK, no heating issues.
Is it only me ?
How to overcome this problem?
You can always try factory reset.

I really hope you found a solution. Ive been looking an answer for this annoying problem for 6 months!
Ive read almost 50 threads in differents forums about this problem but no solution at all.
- Tried changing charging port. Cost me a few dollars but no solution.
- Tried USB debugging on and off from developers menu.
- Did MTP+ADB option in *#*#0808#* menu.
- Turned Low Battery Dump "on" in *#*#0808#* menu.
- Tried 10 or more different original Samsung cables.
- Upgraded PC USB drivers.
None of them worked for me.
Hope you have made a progress.
Try battery calibration tool from play store.
Charging after 80% is always slower because of Li-Ion batteries that have a short life if you keep them around 100% all the time.

Sorry for bumping the thread. But I have the same problem now, I do understand that the phone is already 3 y.o. but if it has fast charging, it should charge fast, right? Lately, it started to work slower, Idk what to do with it. I like it very much and I don't want to buy a new one

Hi Guys,
Before I start, I have read many threads (I think all) relating to this problem and I have googled, googled and googled.
My Device:
GSM Galaxy Nexus
Problem:
It won't charge. No matter if turned on or off. The battery stays always at 0% and when taking a look at *#*#4636#*#* it says "charging".
What I have tried:
- Bought three different batteries.
- Tried two different cables, incl. the OEM one.
- Tried two different wall chargers.
- Replaced the Micro USB port.
- Wiped, reset etc. the phone.
- Tried different ROMs and Kernels. (Yes, I am desperate).
Any advice what the problem might be?
Thanks in advance!
could be the pins not making proper contract with the battery

They look all the same. Not bent, not damaged, not dirty.
hmmm that is really all I can think of..
The fact that it says charging leads me to believe it isn't the port (like most people experience)

I have plugged my phone into my computer. It says "not charging" now. This message appears after a few minutes when I turn it on. Same happens when I plug it into the wall.
Now it's getting really strange. I didn't observe this behavior before.
Before I changed the Micro USB port, the message was >always< "not charging".
Now, after the change, it says for 2 minutes "charging" and then it changes to "not charging".
Did you replace the whole USB board as well, or just the port? It sounds like the USB board is bad.

Hi lowandbehold,
No, I replaced the whole board if we mean the same. I can't post links at this time because I am a new member of XDA, but you can search for "Dock Connector Charging Port with Flex Cable For Samsung Galaxy Nexus i9250" on eBay.
UPDATE: Plugged it back into the wall. It says "charging AC" now and does NOT change to "not charging". Funnily enough, the voltage keeps dropping. From 2040 mV to 1961 mV in two minutes.
i'd say replace the device.
Unfortunately I'm having the exact same problem. I just replaced charging port literally just now and it still won't charge. It says "Charging" but it's not charging. In the Settings it says discharging.
Could it be the battery? I'm thinking of buying a new one and seeing if that works.

Has anyone found a solution to this yet? with mine it charged fine in the beginning, and then it would only charge to about 86%, and then 84%...then 80%...currently it will only charge to 14%. I can leave it plugged in for 48 hours and it says it is charging but will not go past 14%. it takes a few hours for it to charge from 0% to 14%, but then dies within 30 minutes of EXTREMELY LIGHT use.
I've tried two different batteries which both yield the same results. I have en external battery charger and can charge the battery to full (according to the light on the charger) and place it in the phone and the phone will tell me it is at 14% or 8% or something like that (which makes me believe it has nothing to do with the usb port).
I have explored everything I could think of on the software side. The problem started on Ice Cream Sandwhich, it didn't stop when it was updated to Jelly Bean, I recently rooted it and have tried a few different roms including stock roms and CM10. I tried battery calibration apps.
So far nothing has made a difference. Any Ideas?
Nope no solution has been found. I'm just selling the device (and telling them the problem, so far I'm selling it for $275 and people want it) and I'm going to buy an SIII or a One X
well, this really sucks...it seems that a few unlucky people (like me) have this charing issue...
I too changed my USB flex cable thinking that this was the cause, but nothing changed
the battery icon says charging, but the system says discharging
what a major p*** off, cuz I'm fed up of changing batteries all the time, I have 5 batteries
I hope that someone will be able to figure this one out, cuz its a real brain buster
Any update on this? My phone bought in July is also just started giving this problem. When it is on it simply will not charge. All these months I was using another charger with no issues. I have tried the following:
1. Using the stock charger
2. Bending upwards the male connector in the USB socket.
3. Removing the battery overnight
Nothing seems to work. When off, the phone seems to charge somewhat and charging icon comes on. But charging when off for about 5 hours resulted in battery showing about 50% (from 13%) but it drains very quickly. Sometimes when charging for 30 minutes (when off) and switching it on it shows 100% battery, but then still discharges very quickly. Sometimes it shows very low battery.
Also my notification LED is glowing red since about a month, even when phone is switched off. If I remove the battery and connect the charger, the LED starts glowing red - blinking, so it seems the USB port is providing power as sometimes the battery does show 50% and seems to last a bit from there.
What are my options here? I am on the latest JB OTA update which came around 14/15 Nov. In India, I will get no service from Samsung for the Nexus.
I am going to try a factory reset first and then next see if I can get another battery. And maybe I should return / cancel the Nexus 4 I ordered?
Maybe try wiping battery stats in recovery? I was having similar issues today with "not charging". I was plugged in to the wall with nothing, so I plugged into the computer... ADB enabled and device was connected as a media device. I booted recovery and wiped dalvick and battery stats, rebooted and now it is charging via usb and AC. Don't know what happened, but it worked for me. Hope it helps!
Thanks for the response. Well, I just tried draining out the battery (it took almost 2 days lol) till it would show shutdown warning soon after booting up and then removed the battery and held down the power button. I then charged it in 'off' mode for a few hours, I think overnight. I used the actual Nexus charger instead of the generic one I was using all this while. When I turned it on, there was about 40% charge showing.
There was another JB update which I managed to complete (leaving it on the charger). The phone seemed to work fine, but did not show a charging state, but suddenly the next day on its own when I just plugged in the charger, it showed the 'bolt' charging icon and since then it has been working perfectly.
Simply no clue as to how and why it started working fine. Probably the previous 14 Nov update had some bug which was resolved in the latest update or the latest update reset the battery stats or whatever.
I am more worried about my upcoming Nexus 4 which has a non-removable battery as to what I would do if something like this happens.

Hello,
I bought a GN, I9250, European model, made in China 4 days back from a vendor online.
I am having problems charging the phone.
When PHONE is ON
1. When plugged into the included charger/cable, the battery status shows CHARGING (AC) for a few minutes and then changed to NOT CHARGING. Removing the USB plug or switching off the mains and restarting in a minute takes the status back to CHARGING (AC) but again for a few minutes.
2. Tried with multiple chargers and cables with exactly the same results
3. When the phone is connected to USB port in laptop, the charging happens, for a longer duration. The laptop also detects the phone immediately and I can access files etc. After say 20-30 minutes odd the status again goes to NOT CHARGING. However, while the phone is not charging, I can still access files on the phone. This implies the USB connectivity is still perfect, only the charging has stopped.
4. Under no circumstances does the charge go beyond 50% odd, irrespective of the duration of charging
When PHONE is OFF
1. The phone shows the battery icon with bolt for a few seconds and then shuts off. If I click the power button briefly I can see the battery charging icon.
2. I kept the phone in charging with the wall adapter all night, and got 49% charge only, starting from about 10% when put to charge.
The battery indicator graph shows the phone is has never hit a charge level above 65% types.
I have not seen the other charging issue of the phone showing a bolt in the battery icon even if the phone is not plugged in ! (thank god!!!)
I bought it "as new" condition, and performed a factory reset immediately on receiving the phone. So its running stock applications, with almost everything except voice and 2g data on. No applications except Whatsapp are running.
All other aspects of functionality are working well.
I have read hundreds of posts across the web and am not sure what the problem could be with my phone. I am in India and since the phone was bought off the net, its unlikely that it will be provided warranty etc here. In fact I'm not even sure if there will be servicing competency in the technicians here.
I have tried to puch the micro USB tongue by pushing it upwards gently, but cannot really say whether or not it did bend or i was just too fearful. Have tried removing battery etc and all other soft methods written everywhere.
Any help ???

Hello,
I do suspect it myself, but I don't know how to verify this. Can any other Samsung phone battery be put in the phone or is the phone compatible only with this one? Getting another battery is not possible in the near future since this is not available in India...
Any thoughts on how to check this?

I have the same problem, but it's not the battery's fault. My brother also has a GNex, and I tried charging my phone with his battery, and vice-versa, without any luck. I think it's the USB port's fault. Something about power not getting to the phone correctly. Luckily I bought it at a store here. I talked to the owner, and I'm going to exchange it for a new one tomorrow.

Hello,
I found another GN and did this experiment.
1. When I plugged in my battery which was showing 53% on my phone into the other phone it showed 79%.
2. When I charged the other GN with my battery inside, it charged to 100%
3. When I put my battery back into my phone, it showed 67%
4. When I put in the other GN battery into my phone it showed 49%, while it was showing 82% in the other GN.
5. I was able to charge this other battery in my phone to 60%.
6. When I put it back into the other GN it showed 94% charge.
Apparently my battery seems to be ok. Also, it seems that my phone is charging ok too. But there may be a problem with the phone detecting the battery level !!
Any thoughts?

Hello,
I have a problem with this tablet , when i charge it to 100% and use it for like 5-10mins i'm suddenly at 1% battery. But i can still use youtube or other apps for 40mins + So i'm pretty sure the battery is at 95% or something.
Also when i charge and stop charging it can reset the whole thing and say that i have 2% battery.
I already tried to charge 100% > let it decharge 40-50% > power off 5houres > but didn't help..
Somebody said remove the battery for 5mins and problem is gone..
Anyone done this so far?
i'm on STOCK ROM , no root or what so ever.. NO battery save app or something like that.
Hi, I'm having the same issue but it's not as dire as yours. Since you're not rooted or anything, I strongly believe it's a hardware issue, try replacing your device cause it shouldn't drain that fast. I'm using nolekat rom and it takes me 10 hours to charge fully or more but half the time for it to be drained. I haven't tried removing my battery manually but you could try that too. Most likely it's a hardware issue since you didn't mess with it so much. Hope this helps.

Hi,
My tab is getting switched off frequently though the battery is fully charged, it suddenly dies down during any kind of work and im not having battery draining problem in my tab. But when I plug in a charger or battery bank then the tab works fine with out shut downing. Is this problem related to battery or hardwire or software. Kindly suggest if some one facing similar situation
Hi XDA
I have another problem, not too bad as yours, but very nagging and upsetting. What happens is that my tabet takes practically half a day for charging up the battery. It takes like 12 or more hours to charge up from 0 to 100%. I have tried unplugging the battery as you explained many times, also draining it, but nthing changes. And even worse it is when I'm just plugging my device after totally drained the battery, so when I try to boot my device it may boot up, when it does, after one minute it's turning off because of a suposedly 0% battery. Really I might get either that 0% or 1% battery, but after a minute when I just plug it in and boot up, it may turn off even though I turned off the sceen inmediately.
I think. the problen is maybe on the battery or in the USB port, I have tested many USB cables, many chargers, charging from my PC, but the problem keeps going an and on and on. I would like to know why this problems is happening, if I could fix it up by myself, for instance by replacing the battery or the USB port. This device was a gift, and since I got it I was dithering whether it was normal or not, but by asking soome mates and reading your post I realize that this is not normal.
Hope you read this quick reply. Many thanks for your advice and giving me advice on what and how I should do...

My N750 with stock ROM 4.4.2 refuses to charge normally. The led was off which being connected to USB wall charger. However it showed a grey icon battery for two seconds before the screen was completely off. I noticed the error message popped before this happened (quoted below). It said something related to Samsung power sharing software. Later on I found out the charging problem.
Power Sharing, You must download the app in order to control the amount of power shared. If you connect your device to another device with the Samsung Power Sharing Cable EP-SG900 without the app, the entire battery amount will be tranferred to the other deivice. Connect to Samsung Apps and download the application.

Strangely I did not use power sharing and honestly I don't know what it means and I wasn't doing anything or plan to do things with power sharing. The screen was a little shaky when the error appeared although seconds after that the phones worked normally except I cannot charge my phone. I understand that the phone might still have received current from the charger however small, especially when I charge it under recovery environment which is inconvenient to do. It took 4 hours to reach less than 30 percent under Phil'z Recovery method.
I tried to clean the micro-USB port with a small sharp needle but have no luck. It looked clean to me. I also wiped the data and did factory reset and tried to use different ROM. But still it won't charge. I also tried to use different cable and different AC Adaptor (Sony original charge 2.5 volt) which was working under normal condition but not anymore. I never drop my battery and always recharge before reaching 30 percent. That's my ritual as I read from battery University that frequent charging is much better than letting the Lithium battery goes down to near zero.
Any ideas?
I tried different ROMs to find the best. Is it possible that Samsung crippled the phone after so many reflashes? This is scary.
(UPDATE) The phone is NOT detected by Odin and flashing is not possible.

I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE WITH MY NOTE 3 NEO SM-N750 when i connect to charger message showing install power share apps its very simple to fix this charging issue take toothbrush and clean the charging socket with brush i did this and wowww its connected normally & phone start to charge without any issue
I have been having this issue for a few days where the phone will detect the charger and it will display the charging sign. However charge wont go up and in fact sometimes it goes down. This problem however doesn't happen when fully off and works as usual. I've used ampere to check and noticed i only get about 150ma where as before i would get constant 1500ma. I tried different plugs, different cables, software repair, hard reset, safe mode. Nothing works

I was able to get just charging working (slow charging) when the phone is on by filling the battery to 100% when off and then leaving it unplugged for a few hours after that. I then turned it back on, used it for a bit until it reached about 70% and then charged it with the phone on and it began to charge again ( its pretty slow compared to fast charging but its a start).
Other possible solution.

I read somewhere that a corrupted SD can cause this issue too so I also removed my SD card when doing the process i mentioned above. Not sure if this is what solved it but you might wanna give it a try.

i dont think so. may be problem with the charging connector. there is possibility to poor contact between connector and PCB board due to solder connection or may be possibility of loose connection between connector and charger pin . so slightly press the charger pin and connect and now then its charging . just try
Works
I don't know which of the two methods it was but fast charging became usable again and works fine.
