Has anyone tried Google Cardboard for the G3's 1440p Display? I'd imagine its an entirely unique experience for this device's high resolution.
Ive loaded it, haven't yet made my "cardboard viewer". Will report back...

Have recently bought a plastic viewer, which is pretty much like cardboard, but more sturdy (I guess).
The experience is wonderful. There is a video viewer software on google play, where it takes normal video and splits it for each eye (as the eyes are split, so you cannot view it through normal player). It looks amazing with the right content, like being in a massive cinema all by yourself !!
Have not tried it with other phones to compare, but with the G3, it looks amazing.
I got the Dodocase one. Problem is, the screen is too large for the lenses, so you don't see the whole screen. I haven't found anything all that interesting to do with it. Played with it for a few minutes, and probably won't touch it again for a long time. The 3D Google Earth thing would be cool if the quality wasn't so bad (stutters a lot, takes a long time to render, and looks generally bad).
I kinda agree with scoppola here. I got the Dodocase VR kit as well (really well made, BTW, great quality cardboard, feels nice and sturdy). With the Nexus 5, the screen is the right size for the lenses to focus well. But trying it with the OnePlus One, the 5.5" display seemed to be a bit out of focus, unfortunately. Not sure what the best way to remedy this might be, just scooting the screen back a little bit might help. But it seemed difficult to view the whole image properly from that focal length
Dodocase is coming out with a bigger size which should fit g3.
There's also Unofficial Cardboard who have one for bigger phones. I've ordered mine today.
I fell for google cardboard. And made it my self. A bit time consuming to cut every thing but it was free untill I bought the lenses. Amazone.de for a bit more then 10 €. I havnt tried to many apps.
One cool flight sim. (Refugio flight)
Its a great idea. It needs litle more coding I guess.
I printed the blueprint up scaled to 105%. The g3 fits perfect.
Ps. Plz type down the titleof the best 3d apps. Ds.
Hey guys, I hope I'm not too late on the Cardboard thread, so here is my experience - It's amazing! I made one myself with lenses from old binoculars, so I had to adjust the setup(the phone is about 4-5cm away from where it should be on the blueprint), but finally I got it to focus. My only problem is that sometimes the camera "jumps". When you are on a roller coaster ride it suddenly turns the view to the back and you have to turn all the way around to look at the front again or just jumps the front point of view as you rotate your head. It's not happening on all apps, but it is annoying. I tried the phone without case and it seems to be better, but still persists. Has anyone had such problems? I'm wondering if it is because of my custom rom or the water damage my phone suffered (I had water below the lcd screen and it was replaced by warranty, but nothing else). So is there a way to check if my gyroscope is ok and the problem is from the app, the case or the rom? Thank you!
P.S. Here is my list of installed app - try them out, they are amazing and all are available on Google Play:
1. VRSE - Sundance
2. Lanterns for Google
3. Snow Mountain
4. Cosmic Roller Coaster
5. VR Free Flight
6. Vanguard VR
7. Hoverboard Dive
8. VR Roller Coaster
9. Crazy Swing VR
10. Jurassic Dino VR
11. VR Cave Flythrough
12. VR Volcano Flythrough
13. ZenVR
14. Cartoon Village VR
15. Mad Race VR
16. Orbulus
17. Roller Coaster VR
18. Titans of Space for Cardboard
19. Cmoar Roller Coaster
20. Cardboard Craft
21. Dive Deep
22. VR Airplane Flight
23. VR Fores Animals
That's all I left on my phone and I've tried maybe around 10-15 more. I didn't left those that require a bluetooth controller, since I still have to hold the phone to my face
Wondering if any of you guys have had the Gear 2 before purchasing the Moto 360.
I'm interested in the round screen as well as Android Wear. But I'm not able to really find any reviews of someone who has really used both devices day in and day out.
I've have Pebble, loved it! But never put it back on after the Gear 2 purchase. I don't think Tizen is a lost cause, I see new apps coming out all the time. But, I think maybe Android Wear is the way to go, for the long haul.
So, has anyone used both devices for some period of time?
Thanks!

I have used both, and I liked the Gear 2 better. The software is just much more functional, and battery life is great.
Also, the Gear 2 had some neat features that the 360 didn't have (camera, speaker, IR blaster to control all of your audio/video equipment etc...).
I still think Android Wear will be the way to go, but for now it's not as useful as the Gear IMHO...
I had the 360 and went to the Gear 2. It is a much better and refined watch in my opinion. The Speaker, Amoled screen as well as the Android like Tizen, provide a pleasant experience for me. And the incredible battery life, wow! Doing chores around my house while waiting to talk to a customer support agent on my watch is such a revolutionary thing for me as well.
I had the opposite experience.
Camera function is useless on Gear 2.
You can't feel the vibration when you're doing anything with your hands using the G2.
Never bothered to use the IR because the OS on the G2 is clunky and slow.
I do miss the speaker option because you can take calls.
And battery life.
App support for the G2 is AWFUL.
S-Voice is horrible and slow.
G2 is much heavier, but the band is better (debatable).
I can go on for days, but I only had the 360 for almost 24hrs now so I'm still getting used to it.
Is camera function that bad? Since I don't have a waterproof phone I thought having a camera on my risk for our doors and pool beach play with the kids
would be a great solution. I dont really need the picture quality to be perfect or SLR quality but enough for social sharing. Pls comment .. Tq
I hear google voice search can be made to works too on the G2 so I suppose there can still be some google integration.

They look pretty good to me!
I had the gear 2 and now I have the moto 360, this is a trade off at the moment, as far as voice recognition moto is much better, the style I think is much better. The gear 2 is like a swiss army knife, it's much more feature packed and its management of emails and text is better.
If andoid wear catches up the moto will surpass gear 2

The camera is quite good. It also take 720p video. No Google now as of yet, unless you use Tasker.

I too had both. And agree with the above statement.
I don't personally have a Gear 2, but a friend of mine does.
The camera isn't very good. And honestly I cannot for the life of me figure out why you'd use it over your phone unless you were trying to do something devious. The one time my friend used it that was some what useful was to take a picture of our parking lot area number when we were at a convention.
But I mean...I had my phone out and could have done it in two seconds.
I don't quite get people wanting to replace their phone with a smart watch.
If you said "Gear 2 has better battery life, that's why I went with it", no debate, totally understand that.
But to say you like it better for a speaker and a camera? Geesh.
As someone who has seen both watches in use...
Gear 2, better battery life, wouldn't be caught dead in public wearing it (my friend looks like a dork among dorks).
360, looks like an actual watch, worse battery.
That's it.
The gear 2 is a completely crippled piece of hardware. In typical Samsung fashion they just cram it with as many features as possible hoping that at least one of them will grab someones attention so they can make the sale. Funny how this amazing strategy clearly isn't working when they are showing losses as of last quarter.
The crippling I'm referring to is Tizen, which will be obsolete in 6 months or less. How arrogant of Samsung to think they can write thier own OS and take on Android. They can't even get their android based OS down, and now they are writing a new OS from scratch?
And the nail in the coffin is s voice. One of the worst user experiences I have ever seen. Its slow, unintelligent, and not helpful in any way whatsoever. You can't even respond to an email wtih the gear 2.... Give me a break. I respond to everything on my Android wear watch, including chat programs such as groupme. Better battery life on the gear 2? Yes. S voice? Blows the entire package out of the water.
Have the Gear 2 Neo, just picked up the Moto last night to try.
Design: Clearly Moto Wins with round display.
Display Quality: Gear 2, so much better just not round.
Voice Recognition: Moto hands down
Interface Usability: Gear 2 is so much easier to use aside from voice control. Android Wear is so immature
Battery Life: Not even a competition, 4 Days+ on the Gear 2, after 10 hours I'm at 40% on the Moto.
Apps: Gear 2 by a hair, but both suck
Charger: Moto Charger is very cool, Gear 2 is annoying
Calls: Moto is Useless, No speaker, if you want to answer calls your only choice is Gear 2.
Messaging: Moto wins only because it will let you reply to Hangouts which is all I use, both are really bad as messaging
Performance: Gear 2 wins, Moto lags a lot
Watch faces: Gear 2 has far more options for customizing watch
Navigation: Both are terrible right now, but Gear 2 with a speaker has clear potential advantage. Moto will always be useless.
Gear 2 features you can't replicate on Moto:
IR control, kind of a gimmick, but fun to play with at your local bar and drive you bartender nuts
Voice call, ummm Android Wear, what were you thinking.
Summary:
The Moto is a beautiful watch, but between the battery life and the lack of a speaker I will probably return it and stick with my Gear 2, it's just a more useable mature product.

A few situations come to mind where you don't want to risk your phone flying out of your hands. Roller coasters, surfing, Sky diving to name a few. Maybe your life is too boring. Lol. Personally I like the design of the Gear 2 better. The 360 looked like a hockey puck strapped to my wrist.
Some little nit pickey things
I traded my gear 2 for this. Everyone is right about battery life it does suck. Like 10-12 hour suck if your lucky. On the gear 2 you get a notification and if you ignored it it would go of the main screen. Basically if you ignored the notification and the display went dark next time you flick you wrist you would have a clear view of the time. With the 360 no matter how many times you flick your wrist that notification is still there and it wont go away without swiping it away which gets old after a while. I kinda miss the speaker and dedicated away from the phone for a while music player. Can't speak for the vibration problems people are having and ir blaster since I didn't use much to care if it wasn't there. My kids are mad because no camera now but not that big a deal to me. One last thing it comes with a day one update that needs 80 percent to attempt. Mine came out of the box at 6 percent. That reminds me it get wildly inconsistent charging rates. Sometimes it's like 30 minutes to 100 percent other times it sitting on the charger all night and I go to leave and it won't turn on because it stopped charging for some reason. But anyway you can't even use thing as a watch until the update it just says it won't connect. The screen is nice but not for the trade off the we are getting with battery life. Would I still trade my gear 2 for this. Yes best solely on looks right now. Maybe software can fix some of what's wrong
I also went back to my gear 2....I loved the 360 look feel etc, but it was hard to justify the 250 price tag....also considering how hard I am on devices I think I'll just use the gear 2 into the ground and hopefully by then something that comfortably gets me through the day with battery is out. I do drive 3-4 hours a day or more so maybe the crappy battery life has to do with that. It is almost a full day but when I am afraid to look at my watch so I can conserve battery I think it loses its usefulness.
Is it worth it to trade my gear 2 for a moto 360?
I had gear 2 neo before having the moto 360... The only thing that I see gear neo is better that is battery life and the screen as Amoled.. Other than that it a useless especially the tizen OS!
Thought about getting a gear 2 but biggest most massive issue with any of samsung none wear watches are you gotta have a Samsung Device and I've got a nexus 5. Have a lg g watch with my 360 I rarely use the g watch even though it has a better cpu.
Samsung is also really really bad about updating their devices or even providing proper organized device source so you could make a update yourself.
Argument on a speaker on your watch I find silly rather have a nice Bluetooth headset lot less background noise. Heck I'm looking at the bragi dash when they come out!
2nd generation still has the flat tire display, and it is still 11+mm thick. That kills it for me. Any hope on the Android Wear front? I see Samsung has already thrown in the towel, what with its new fancy-looking Tizen watch. Anything on the horizon?
I'm thinking seriously to shift to huawei watch, its really gorgeous !!, but I'm concerned about it coz it doesn't have ambient sensor and the heart rate cannot be tracked daily ( the wrist heart rates are not accurate; so bahhh). So I'm hesitant between moto 360 2nd gen and the huawei watch, for the samsung watch, i didn't like the tizen os (from my perspectives). U feel that its a beta OS.

I'm torn between 360 2 a hauwei as well. I like the look on the custom 360's more but the better screen is nice on the Hauwei. Going to wait till the 360 2 is out next week for compare

Flat tire is not that big a deal. Lived with it with the 360 v1 and it really never mattered. Went out and grabbed a 42mm Gen2 yesterday, already super happy with it. I'm happy to give your towel a good home.

Yea u r right, the flat tire is not a big deal.. However I'm more leaning for higher screen resolution (400x400), Amoled screen, and sapphire glass, I'm just concerned about sports sensors, many hauwei watch users reported that HR reading is freezing on several sports apps and its not accurate therefore its worthless for sports tracking. I'm still waiting for official reliable reviews to take the decision.

The HR sensor on the gen1 360 was definitely crap. But on the gen2 so far it's been pretty great. Reports to Google Fit every 5 mins pretty consistently, even. I haven't gone through the exercise of actually doing point by point comparisons with my FitBit Charge HR for consistency, but its definitely in the right ballpark. When I do side by side comparisons of the 2 devices they're pretty close on both HR and pedometer. Not trying to evangelize, just adding a data point for you since there's not much out there on the gen2 360 yet.

I wouldn't put too much stock in the Huawei's screen. They seem to be plagued with reddish blacks when displaying what's supposed to be pitch black. I have one, and was impressed with it, until I noticed the faint red glow on black watch faces.
I also have a 360 v2 on order. I thought I would return it in favor of the Huawei's supposedly superior screen, but now I'm not so sure. The Moto may not have pure blacks, and has a faint glow in ambient mode...but at least it's SUPPOSED to. The Huawei isn't.
I wasn't even going to open the 360 before returning it, but now I'll be sure to try it out before I make my decision.
Last December I retired the Fire Phone because the wife dropped her and shattered the glass. We found the cost to repair it was more than it was worth.
That plus we had a problem with Straight Talk over billing us and they essentially telling us to suck on it, no refund. We dropped them like a flea bag hobo and went another carrier and upgraded to LG V10s.
Anyhow, my Fire phone has been gathering dust until the idea of using with a VR headset hit me.
Only issue was FireOS no support Google Cardboard.
Solution was Rooting and now it is running Cyanogen very nicely.
So, ANYONE out there using their Fire phone (4.7" screen) with a VR headset?
I looked online and there seem to be dozens of brands out there. I would just like to hear about anyone experience and with what brand.
Thanks
The problem you would run into is it's only a 720 display....the resolution wouldn't be sharp enough for a VR headset

Aww, come on. We are not talking about a VR setup to compete with the Occulus Rift, or the HTC Vive. The headset is 25-30 bux for these.
Yeah, higher resolution would be idea of course, but this is a spare phone and there is no reason not to at least try it. My current live phone is a LG V10.
That has a huge display and high resolution. I will try this one also to see what it looks like.
I've been using my stock Fire Phone with Google Cardboard, it works fine, has some issues with 360 videos and Youtube but that problem was easily solved with a 3rd party youtube app. You can see the individual pixels, 720p works fine but it's not ideal. The performance is actually better than my old HTC One m7 which is 1080p. Cardboard is fine but it's nothing special and doesn't come with straps to secure it to your head, I'd recommend trying a different brand.

Thanks for the reply.
I was able to try it this weekend on a generic VR headset. The make was VR BOX if that makes a difference. I saw 3 or 4 on Amazon the exact same thing with a different brand; anyhow, what I really dislike was the narrow field of view. I switch to my LG V10 and which was a big boost in image size, but still the field of view was bad.
You could see the phone at the left and right of the image. I would say the actual image size was about 60% of the view, and this will not provide anything near a nice VR experience. For 30 bux, what the heck. But it wasn't 30 bux worth. Sent it back for a refund.

Yeah I probably should have mentioned in my response that the novelty of VR wore off very quickly and I never really use my Google Cardboard. If I hadn't gotten it for free I'd probably be trying to get a refund too.

All of them
My bestbuy in Battle creek Michigan has them, and I held the Black S20 ultra and its awesome, can`t wait for mine to come from Samsung.
I'm in Westchester County, N.Y. The Best Buy at Hartsdale doesn't have it but the Best Buy at Yonkers does. They have the Galaxy Fold inside a glass encasing like it's something holy lmao
But the S20 Ultra is a mammoth. Holy crap. When I held my Pixel 4 XL to it, I just felt like the Pixel has been so outclassed. The screen is so much better on the S20 Ultra, it's loads better than the Note 10 too.
I was on the fence about buying it, but it's happening now. It's going to be nice to have a wide angle lens, higher brightness, SD card, etc. again.
I'm in Maryland, near Washington DC and my local Best Buy had on their display

It brings back the pro mode in video, correct?
That was the biggest slap in the face when they removed it!
Played around with it and it's as expected. Activated 120Hz and it's fluid for sure.
Brightness was at 100% and no issues with seeing the display at 200+ foot candle "showroom" levels!
Interestingly enough, 8K capture was locked out. Played some music and it was hard to hear (80dB ambient!) but I could really feel the bass through the back glass panel almost like it was a passive radiator. Not sure if this is a good thing or not.
Checked security patch and it's obvious this thing can go past 88mph because it's been to the future! Patch level is March 01!

It shouldn't if proper countermeasures are in place. I've never had an iPhone OLED get burn in even my 2+ year old X that's been plugged into the charger and running at brightness 100% for hours every day as a music controller. Granted, I'm actually trying to get some afterimage and it's not happening. Probably because I WANT it! LOL

LOL

I was referring to the display models at Best buy that the person I quoted mentioned.

Just played around with one at my local best buy. I was surprised with it having only 4 Gb Ram available. Hope thats not the case for retail units. I don't really play games on my phone, so i am hoping to always around 8-9 gb available.

Unused RAM is wasted RAM, and wasted battery. The phone reserves some for quick load times but will kill apps to load larger ones seemlessly.
