I am interested in pro video recording apps like "FilmicPro" with full manual controls for which the Camera2 API support level of a device is essential. I was disappointed that the original Z Play apparently didn't have "Full" or "Level 3" (the best) as a Camera2 hardware support level, not allowing 3rd party camera apps full manual controls. So I was wondering how things are looking with the Z2 Play. Can anyone with the Z2 Play install the free app "Camera2 probe" from the PlayStore, run the analysis and post the results here? Much appreciated!

That's really strange. Can you post another screen grab of the top part where it says "Model"? But I guess it also just says Moto Z2 Play? Only idea I have is that it's another country variant of the Z2 Play. But why would they make it different?

Don't know, it says Z2 play, that's why I left that portion in the screenshot.
Mine is the same as @gitzz. It is a xt1710-09 model on wich I have flashed the xt1710-07 rom after a soft brick (since I could not find a xt1710-09 stock rom).

Junior, My Z2P shows only Legacy support, and I am on the newest October security patch that I flashed from the motozbrasil links. I wonder why your phone has better support? What version of the OS are you running?
Camera 2 API is disabled by default but system has support.
I enabled this hidden feature in build.prop for use Google Camera.

U should have stated that in your post. It will create confusion if some non- techie user would plan to purchase Z2P for camera 2 support.

He asked if the device is supported. And I'm stating that it yes. Now whether is enabled by default or not is another case.
The point here is that the Moto Z2 Play has support for Camera 2 API.
Thanks everyone, I've already learned a lot from this thread. It's indeed important to know whether the full Camera2 support is enabled by default in the provided OS version or if one has to dig into the code to activate it manually. Personally I'm looking for a device that has full support by default 'out-of-the-box' but maybe I should have mentioned that specifically
Hello everyone, my first post here !
I've got the exact same results gitzz has. I have the NSP26.118-27 build, the july update (can't take the time to wipe everything to upgrade yet... Because bootloader unlocked, magisk installed etc etc etc), on a XT1710-09 model.
Maybe it won't help but at least it should confirm your doubts

Check your root.
Here I use Root Explorer to edit build.prop and works.
Ok, so after it has been unlocked in the build.prop the Google Camera mods are working on Z2P (those Arnova and others...) ?
so, all of you who have opportunity to try google hdr+ camera on z2play is it worth it? how's with still pictures? thanks in advance

Hi guys,
As my title means, I really miss a blacklist feature in the phone system app. Coming from Samsung world, I've always been able to block these daily cold callings.
So, my question is straightforward: is this feature hidden somewhere or do I need a mod (Xposed, maybe?)? I'm quite reluctant to install any third app
Any help here, please?
Create a whatever contact and save all those numbers under that contact. Then click the "all calls to voicemail" option and that way you will never be bothered by those calls again. Samsung had it implemented better though, I know what you mean.

Download and install the Google Dialer apk. It's pretty much identical to the stock dialer only it lets you create a blacklist and block numbers. Once it's installed you can then set it as your default dialling app and disable the stock one (annoyingly, they both have the same name: Phone).
This is what I use, it doesn't require root or Xposed and works a treat on my OnePlus 3.
But you could also try out Truecaller, a dialling app with caller ID that also lets you do the same thing.

Agreed, that's how I got around this missing feature (also built a blacklist profile in tasker that reads from (and writes to if I tell it to) a txt file when I receive a call from a number not in my contacts) .
When I tried last week, only specific versions worked (newer and newest ones did not).
"com.google.android.dialer_2.5.11_rc8-20511_minAPI23(nodpi)" was the newest one that worked for me.
If anybody got a newer version to work, please enlighten me/us. [emoji6]

If you can flash a zip, you can install the latest version. I've just posted instructions here. Essentially you just have to install the requisite dialer framework to /system beforehand. Recent versions of the dialer app require it.

Problem solved. It's a modified version of the system, these apps have been removed and when installing them manually they didn't work.
You can install the original ROM, without having to root or anything, just google for '[HOWTO] Flash a Stock ZUI ROM (ZUK Z2 Pro Z2121 only!)', should be the first result.
make sure to use method 2, method 1 won't work, put the downloaded files in folders with short names on C:\ and don't use space or any symbols in the folder names. Also download the files from the link of the second method, not the first one, the password for the archive is

The system will be in chinese, with english available (for english language go to settings, then the option with the cog symbol, then second option, then first option), the translation for other languages were horrible anyway. You will have the newest version of the software with all the app, including U-Health etc. You will also be able to get future updates on the phone itself, which isn't possible with the 'international ROM'. Also stuff like permission manager will work, but you have to install the google apps yourself, which is very easy after googling for a tutorial.

On the other, only a question.
When I try to check if there is a new upgrade a message appears in my mobile.
The message said: Your mobile has been root, isn't available upgrade.
Do you know if the mobile is rooted when you do the flashing with the method that you posted.

I don't get that message, for me it just says 'No Update available' and Rootchecker also says, that I don't have root access.
Maybe the shop you bought it from rooted it? You could try unrooting it.
Also when you want to update with the System Update app, you need to be connected to a chinese VPN

Just flash it with TWRP and set as default phone app.

Just tried... If you simply extract the two apk from the zip you can install them with no issues at all... (I prefer it from flashing...)
The Contact apk is the same as you can find on Play Store, while the Telephone apk is a (lot) newer version than that available on Play Store... Thanx a lot! :highfive:
EDIT: wrong! No problem with contacts, it can be downloaded and installed from Play Store too... BUT Telephone refused to install on Z while installed fine on another MM I use... I'll investigate more on this issue...

Ok, it's possible to install single apks BUT it's needed to install jar & permissions file (& reboot before...) so, for newbies is probably better to simple flash the zip (that is ok, I've cheched...)
Main difference is that flashing after the apps can't simply be uninstalled but become part of the system since they are put in priv-apps... (ok, they can be freezer or removed by a root file manager anyway...)
I'm using it anyway... small differencies for contacts, a lot more (and interesting...!) for dialer...

There's a modded apk here, somewhere, but the problem becomes the caller id functions don't work as it needs to be signed by Google to use the correct APIs. So unless Google messes up like they did with 2.05_rc4 we'll never have an "simple apk" version.

Nope, it doesn't work with stock android nougat on my moto z xt1650-03, retailmx. After the restart the phone wasn't able to open, not a single app was able to recover my phone app; so I applied my TWRP backup and tried again, same result. So I decided to make it work because I didn't want to delete everything again so, this is what I did:
Make sure to flash the zip, and if you can use your phone anymore, don't panic like me...
1. Erase the app via Titanium Backup pro
2. Restart the phone
3. Go to the file explorer, find the zip of the nougatdialer and extract the dialer apk
4. install it like a normal app and voila!
5. grant permissions if needed.
I think the normal apk should work on nougat.
If not here's the nougat zip:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=457095661767120304
If you're on a custom ROM that didn't come with Google Camera, then you can use this one.
Just download the GoogleCamera.zip.
Unzip it.
Then copy the entire Google Camera folder to /system/priv-app.
Then change permissions of the folder to match other folders.
Then change permissions of the apk inside to match other apks.
Then reboot and profit.
Download pulled from January 2017's "V" stock firmware:

Download v6.0.54.1
Download v6.0.78.1
Enable Write to external sdcard:
ExtSD_Fix_rw-signed-v1.9b.zip
Thank you so much. Working fine on pure Nexus

Many thanks for this, working on resurrection remix 5.8.3 26/04 build without issue. how did you get around the FC problem, if I may ask?

My understanding is that when /system/framework/com.motorola.frameworks.core.addon.jar is present
com.motorola.camera.device.framework.CameraMotExt.<clinit> fails to find class "android.hardware.Camera$EnvDetectCallback"
So I emptied out the static method (<clinit>) and initialised a couple of variables outside.
I used DexPatcher to modify it.
Then the behaviour is the same as if /system/framework/com.motorola.frameworks.core.addon.jar wasn't there.
Clearly this is a workaround not a fix. It would be nice to know why it can't find the class and fix it so that "CameraMot" is supported (I guess this is some hardware optimisation)
Would you please share another link beside afh because i get some problem with download from afh
Thank you for this. After I deleted those files, an FC message saying "Motorola Settings" has stopped would greet me at every boot. This'll take care of that.
I don't believe it has anything to do with video recording though, does it?

I didn't see issues with video recording either with the patched Moto camera and deleting the .jar files, or using this Moto camera as is. The Motorola settings seems to pop up whenever, but dismissing it doesn't seem to cause issues with the camera app or the system itself - curious!

It can't be updated or it would loose the patch.
Quality wise I would say it's close to stock but probably a little below (can someone confirm this?)
For now I think this is the best we can get for non stock roms.
If someone wants to step up and try to get a proper fix that would be ideal.

Cool. Let's hope someone fix this further
i mean, perhaps setup a wrapper to divert the error message.... something like that.
btw, on stock there is a "Camera tuner for Moto G(4)", is it needed?
