Hi all,
Below is the text I posted on the Google Nexus help forum but I've not had any useful help yet. Does anyone know of a fix or had similar issues caused by OTA updates.
Maybe it's time I root my phone for more control but was happy with the OTAs until now.
My Nexus 5x is having big problems connecting to WiFi after the latest update (5th November patches on Oreo).
Basically it won't connect to WiFi. I've tried all the help suggestions, reboot, remove and re-add WiFi AP. Boot in to safe mode to see if it's an app but nothing has worked. This happened straight after the update. Nothing else has changed on the phone.
If I watch the WiFi connection in settings it blips "connecting" a few times then says "disabled" on the AP I'm connecting to. Sometimes it says not in range when I try to connect although I have a strong signal.
When it sets the AP to disabled (not WiFi off, that's still on) I have to tap the AP name to try to get it to reconnect.
The latest patch has wrecked my connectivity. Are there any fixes?
Thanks

Hi, exactly the same problem occured to me after the update!
I appreciate any help...
I am also facing this kinda problem but I am on android 7.1.2 June security patch level. I can't bypass my FRP lock because I have to connect my wifi in the first place which I am unable to do. My phone can search wifi networks & also can show signal strength but it cant get connected.
btw..... do you still have this wifi problem??

So I am having some wifi problems. Like most I have 5 or 6 wifis that I connect to on my phone. My issue is that I will need to use my data and my phone's wifi is stuck on trying to connect to a wifi network that is no longer available. I can't turn wifi off or anything. My only fix is to restart the phone. Any clues?

Yes. I believe I'm experiencing the same thing.
Here's my situation, I have the Rogers LGOG (Not rooted) and the reception @ work is extremely poor. So I turn on wifi to connect. I'm able to connect to my corporate wifi, but when I leave to go between floors and I'm out of my wifi range and return, I'm not able to connect. WI-FI is ON and it keeps searching for hotspots, but I'm not able to connect and the only way for it to work again is to reboot. Now, this does not happen consistently, but it has happened a few times to where I'm wondering is this a problem with the OS or is it the phone.
Any thoughts on this to point me to the right direction would be greatly appreciated. thank you.
Same problem with F180K, but there an OTA update arrived yesterday saying "Wifi bug fix".
Cant tell if they really fixed it, cause im waiting for my flight, so cant test it right now.

I have a att Lg optimus G E970, I think I have the same issue, only solution is restart
I'm on a Sprint G3 running Bare-pop (stock, rooted, minimal bloat lollipop ROM) and my Wi-Fi shows connected but seems to have problems staying connected. It will refuse to load a web page or won't update my feeds even though it shows it is connected to Wi-Fi. It doesn't appear to be the Wi-Fi as everything else in my house is operating normal.
Toggling it off then on helps, but I have to manually go in and connect it again... It won't just reconnect to the network.
Anyone had this issue, or know of a fix for it?

I occasionally get this problem. Simply hit forget on the network settings then reconnect. I find that after updating my phone some of my connections aren't perfect and the only way to fix them is to forget then reconnect. If you recently updated try this.
Just tried this. Seems like it's working better.

Good to hear! Glad to help!
So I bought a Nexus 5X 2 days ago. When I first started the phone it was running Android 6.0.0 and it didn't have issues. But a update for 6.0.1 showed up and I downloaded it. And then the issues came. It cannot find any wifi network... The problem isn't from my network, because every other device finds my home network and all the neighbors network, but the 5X doesn't find any... I tried factory reset, network reset, cache reset, nothing helped. I even tried Android N beta and for a moment it fixed the issue, but this morning the wifi problem occurred again. I sign out from the N beta and through Mobile network it managed to download the last stable version(that's what google is calling it) - 6.0.1 and the problem was still there.. after some restarts of the phone and some factory resets, i thought the problem was gone, because it managed to find every wifi network in the area, but after i used the phone for 25-30 minutes, the wifi problem occurred again and ever since... So, is this a common issue with the phone, or the android 6.0.1, or is my phone a defected one? Should I go to the store and ask for a replacement? Or will the next phone do the same thing ?

Hi something similar happened to my 5X (6.0.1). It was able to find wifi network but I was not able to use internet even-though internet was working for other devices. I have restarted phone but my phone stuck in to WIFI Obtaining IP address...
I have restarted my router and problem resolved. Happened two times. Might be some bug in software.
I'm currently facing this very same issue, no WIFI networks are showing up. I've already flashed latest N preview with same results, funny thing is that this morning was working just fine. But I had to reboot the phone and now it won't detect any WIFI Network at all.
I'm starting to think I have a failed unit, but since I'm outside the "US" I can't send it back for warranty repair. So I'll just keep it and keep restarting until it's fixed again. This is really frustrating, never happened to me with any device I owned before.

Is it every wifi or just your wifi?
If it is just your wifi, try factory resetting your router after recording the settings, or try removing some entries that my be using NVRAM.
I've seen cases where the router runs out of NVRAM to record the DHCP entries and that causes connection issues. It doesn't show up for other devicdes because their entries are already stored in NVRAM. It is just the incremental new device you add that triggers the problem, so you naturally think the problem is with the new device since all your other devices work with the router.
my solution for wifi not found/working
i´ve upgraded from the nexus 5 to 5x.
i had a really weird issue with my wifi.
only found my wifi when i was not in airplanemode. so i read 1000 of articles about the wifi of the n5x.
just the standard blabla. so i did my own research
while my n5 and my n7 + 2 laptops had never issues my new 5x didnt find my wifi. i really thought it was an hw-issue. but it wasnt.
i am using a fritzbox router. newest update, made a reboot, rebooted phone. nothing happened.
then i checked my wifi channels, set it to manually and instantly found my wifi. i really never expected that the channel got such a big influence. may be the latest update brought a bug for the wifi channels or the hw is just not capable of some channels, dunno. but this is what helped me and it was nowhere mentioned in any forum.
tl;dr
try to change your wifi channel of the router.
edit: btw i found the 5ghz while the 2,4ghz wifi didnt work. but i wanted the 2,4ghz wifi to work because of the short range of my 5ghz wifi.
atm i am on channel 8 and i got no problems with the 2,4ghz wifi network

I don't know about Europe, but usually in the US we only use channels 1,6,11 to prevent overlap.
This is because there is overlap in the channels so you can't really use the in between channels due to too much interference. If you are the only wifi transmission in your area it is fine to use any channel, but if there are others and they are using standard channels for no overlap/interference and you are using in-between channels, your signals are probably going to interfere with each other.
When everyone is using the set channels, then they can negotiate properly and everything works better. With overlapping frequency bands, the negotiation doesn't work well because your signal sometimes looks like noise to the other device.

Hi, thanks for your help but unfortunately it's every wifi... it just hangs on "Searching for Wi-Fi Network..." and stays there...
I already talked with LG and they asked me to send the unit for repair, but I'm no in the US anymore (I was for a short time of period and that's when I bought this phone). So that would not be an option, right now I'm only using 4G and trying to measure it, lol
Just another question, do you guys think I could use a WIFI external dongle through USB OTG? Could that be possible on the Nexus 5X?
Thanks for your help! :good::good:

Hi, thanks for the suggestion but the problem I'm facing it's with every wifi network around, not only mine.
I guess unit is defective, but could a simple reboot trigger this kind of behavior? This is strange, never happened on any device I've owned before. :crying:
In the last 6 months or so I have been experiencing frequent wifi issues, regardless of the custom ROM I'm using. Usually some time after a new installation I am unable to connect to the networks I normally use (my home network and the one at work which uses a proxy server). No matter what I do (clear cache, factory reset, change ROM...) the problem persists. In settings a number of random messages are given: secured, disabled, authentication problem, etc. Every now and then I can get a connection (never at work though) but it doesn't last long. Any help for troubleshooting this would be appreciated. I hope it isn't hardware failure since I'm still enjoyng this tablet after all these years!
Mine started having wifi issues off and on a couple of weeks ago. The wifi started to not turn back on after waking it up, at first just in manually turning it off and then back on seemed to work. Last Friday it just wouldn't stay on at all. I would go to the wifi in settings, it sometimes would get stuck saying turning on. I finally did a factory reset on it, it at first seemed to fix the problem, even spent a couple of hours trying to get everything set back up. Then the problem returned, it just keeps turning the wifi off, if i can even get it to turn on at all. I was going to try and use my phone as a hotspot through Bluetooth (not sure if i can or jot, never tried before), but even the Bluetooth won't stay on. So Sunday, after spending way to many hours fighting with it, i went out and got a new tablet.

Have you tried using the Samsung Kies app to flash the latest stock rom, Dont use Odin or other non Samsung approved flashing software.
I have had my T800 for over 4 years and had no real problem with the wifi connection, But i have heard that there can be compatibility problems with some wifi routers, Also try changing the channel number on your router, Auto channel was giving me poor connection on my PC, I ran the inSSIDer wifi app and it said to manually change my wifi channel to channel 1 the clearest channel as other wifi and bluetooth and wifi dongle even you smart gas/electric can cause interference., auto was picking channel 13 for some reason and it fixed my problem.

Thanks, but since it's the router at my workplace there's not much I can do on that side. Question is, are there any specific steps I can take to verify if it's software-related or if the wifi module is just gone?
Wifi and Bluetooth both use the 2.4ghz frequency, So they can interferer with each other and can cause constant disconnect`s, I have seen this many time, Use 5.0ghz on your T800 if you can, Or disable Bluetooth.
Does your wifi work OK on other brands of router?, Or is it just the one you are using at work.
John.
It's kind of tricky to answer: let's say the times this issue appeared it always stareted at work, but then also at home I couldn't keep a stable connection. Once the problem starts, I get no connection at work at all and very difficult connection at home (meaning it does connect intermittently).
UPDATE. After other attempts and a complete restore of stock firmware, I have both wifi and bluetooth not working, constantly "turning on...." but never activating.
I'm on a pixel 6 pro with latest September update and Android 13. I'm having the same wifi issues I've had since getting the phone . When I come home and my phone auto connects to my wifi 6 router , after about a minute my connection stops working. The icon still shows connected on phone but it will not load anything . So I have to toggle wifi off then back on and it then will work as intended.. what causes this issue and why isn't it fixed yet?? Very annoying. Thanks for any input .

Try forgetting the wifi device on your phone. Reboot the router, and reconnect.
Also, make sure your WiFi router settings are set to Auto for channels (or try changing it to another channel just to test if the issue gets resolved).
