there is. I can't seem to figure out how to link in the xda app here, but goto the apps forum and look for a thread on immersive mode via adb... theres a command to hide on a per app basis.
It's an option in Nova under Look & Feel.

Maybe it is not an option on the XL? Already sent mine back so cannot check.

Looks like not. I just checked on mine (Nova Prime, current stable version) and no hide nav bar or hide clock as shown in jpasint's screenshot.
My bad, sorry. I am subscribed to so many threads in a few different forums and I didn't realize this thread was in the Pixel forum when I originally replied.
This option is not in Nova on my N6 but it is available on my Note8.

Steps to make it happen:
1. Enable Developer Settings by mashing the Build Number in the About Phone section of Settings
2. Enable USB Debugging
3. Connect to a PC
4. Enter commands as follows based on exactly what you want:
Hide Navbar and Statusbar in Nova
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full=com.teslacoilsw.launcher
Hide only the Navbar in Nova
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=com.teslacoilsw.launcher
Hide Navbar and Statusbar in Nova and another app
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full=com.teslacoilsw.launcher,com.otherpackagename
Hide Navbar and Statusbar in all apps
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full=*
You can probably see the pattern. You can have immersive mode hide the Navbar, Statusbar, or both, and enter apps manually by package name or enable for all with the *.
Nothing to see here.

Hello,
Thank you very much for this tips. The bad thing is that Nova keeps a free space where the navbar was. Do you know a workaround for this? I'm under Oreo 8.0.0
Have you tried "Navigation Bar Hider" from the Play Store? No root required. Just a simple ADB command. I have the navbar hidden only in Nova. Seems to work the way you want it to.
With Dirty Unicorn and AquariOS you can hide the Nav bar per app. I chose to hide the Nav bar for nova launcher and nova launcher prime only with DU and it worked. Everything else still shows the nav bar.

I don't know a workaround. I completely disable the Navbar and use a pie control on my device, so I can't do any quick debugging on the immersive mode.
Which pie control? I'm testing fooview nowadays. @RoccoN4 Thank you for the Navigation Bar Hider tip but it gives the same as the adb command. Nevertheless, it is useful.

There is a setting for navigation bar color in Nova that needs to be set to translucent. Immersive mode is likely working and Nova is screwing it up.

Hi
Want to hide my navigation bar?
Any suggestions on how to go about it?
I would like to know this as well. AMOLED screens scare me.

I think "pie control" does not require root.

I'm using swipe navigation, that's the reason i want to hide it.
Save the extra screen space
https: // play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmd.immersive (remove spaces)
I use this and highly recommend it for apps not requiring the keyboard much. Reason for this is that the keyboard will not appear while in full screen mode unless you swipe up, bring back the navigation keys, and then tap in the fillable field again. Otherwise it's the perfect app for long bouts of scrolling in apps like most reddit clients, twitter, google+, etc.
Power Toggle also has a quicksetting tile option for immersive mode im using nova launcher and i dont know if it's intentional or not but they have the option to make the navigation bar transparent. Give "Navbar app" a shot i think they have an option for a transparent bar as .

If you go under "Look and Feel" there should be an option that says "Hide notification", transparent, and dark. I tbought this was only fir the notification bar on the top but it instead made the navigation bar on the horrml

Hey,
So, screen burn in is definitely a concern of mine as well. I am well versed in AMOLED burn in going all the way back to the Droid Incredible and Verizon Fascinate days. From what I remember, it largely has to do with the black areas of the screen (notification bar, nav bar) not having any pixels being exercised. So, in essence, the rest of the screens pixels age (or burn in) creating that effect. Static images also burn in (nav bar buttons... Also concerning). I noticed somebody posted an app to change the nav bar colors with each app that's opened. Would this not prevent burn in as well as those pixels are now getting equally exercised along with the rest of the screen (with the colors changing too... Their being no static image)?
Just curious.
I edited the build.prop but I get system UI force close when I restart. Any ideas on how to stop that from happening? I want to use lmt launcher. Can't stand the nav bar.
easiest way to hide navigation bar is with Tiles app, with the imersive mode toggle. Doesn't require root either. Just an adb command to provide a certain permission.

You used this after doing that qemu line in build.prop right? So basically two steps, one to make the nav bar go away, with the build.prop method and then the second one in terminal to get rid of the Force Close pop ups after a reboot? Am I right?

Hey mate how to revert to old settings? Hi.
Got my OP5T 4 days back..
Does anyone in the forum know if we can use only gestures instead of virtual navigation buttons like iPhone x..coz I hate how it consumes space at the bottom..
Previously I was using all in one gestures to control my volume in OP3.
Thanks,
Shyam

I would love if it had the same gestures as the iPhone X.
All in one gesture, and if u go down to the themes and apps portion of this forum there is a post that shows u how to hide the navigation bar
Dunno if this is what you're looking for, but on my previous device I used the app "J Touch" from the Play Store as my navbar replacement+. Haven't got my 5T yet, but i intend to load it up immediately as I, too, dislike losing that precious real estate.
Using All In One Gesture and disabled the nav bar using Substratum's Navbar Height Changer theme (requires root).
Works like a charm. No more hitting the home button when missing the keyboard space bar!

I combined 0 nav bar height with LMT https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150
and swipe navigation https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.suphi.swipenavigation&hl=en
You can also bind navigation actions like back, home, recent to an edge menu like Swiftly Switch. (no root or xposed required) Though you do have to enable permissions like drawing over other applications.
All of these solutions seem kinda messy and require rooting. Is there no clean way to do this without modding my phone?

ah cool, thanks!
I had an iPhone for a few years and the pixel brought me back. The progress android has made has been phenomenal but I see a few things missing that used to be here before. Honestly I think I'm overlooking it but who knows.
FYI I have an unlocked bootloader and am running magisk running stock rom and kernel.
1. I used to love my Note 1's navbar with the search and menu button in the navbar. I remember xposed being able to do it but the modules haven't been updated and just cause a bootloop on the pixel. The customnavbar by paphonb doesn't allow you to have the menu button on the bar. Is there a way to make this work with oreo?
2. What happened to the text notifications? I replaced Google's main text app with Textra but I recall there being custom notifications and ringers all being in the contacts app.
3. What happened to changing the apps notification sound? Back then it was really easy to set the sound of the apps but I hardly see that feature.
4. Can you change the lockscreen clock font? I changed my system font and the clock has a question mark where the colon used to be. I know I could find another font but I really like this one.
5. How do you get in and out of the phone quickly? I find myself double tapping on the display and most of the time it works. Is there a better way?
Note: I saw some of these tweaks were on substratum but I couldn't get it to work for me. I tried to use substratum but the themes won't take because I'm on stock or because I don't know what I'm doing. I would like a clean lockscreen or one where I could swipe to the left or right and start recording. I forget the name but there used to be an app that customized the lockscreen.
If anyone could help me figure out Oreo I would greatly appreciate it!

The font fix is exactly what I needed. I hated that square or question mark for the colon!
The custom nav bar app is the one I was talking about by php. I don't see a way to add the menu button to the nav bar on that app but I'll look and confirm.
I still use my iPhone silicone cases for this phone so the fingerprint won't work. That's disappointing I thought there might be a quicker way.

So this adds the button that looks like the menu but it doesn't function like the menu at all. It disappears and I think it has to do with the 66 being set as the code. I don't think that's the right code for the menu button to actually work. I took a screenshot.
Either way I'm giving up for now

I am wondering if this is a way to bring back to old style nav bars? Used to be able to add the line to the build prop then reboot and bam they were there. Dont understand why Google let you adjust the notch but not the navbar? It was pretty simple leave the line of code in that allows you to swap.
also curious if you can remove the pill completely in favor of swipe gestures, oneplus gestures are great, but would be better if the pixel 3xl supports this natively, if not, how can we hide the pill?

I would say that you are correct. I was comparing my 3 XL to my friends 2 yesterday and while both have Pie installed only he had that option to get the old navigation buttons back.
I really dislike these gestures, if anyone has run across an app or a setting to get the old three button navigation bar back please let me know. I haven't found much in my searching.
can we bring up the old nav bar yet ?
not a fan of gestures
I'm going to go against the grain: I think I *like* the new gestures instead of nav bar. I will admit I would significantly prefer a hardware home button, but in lieu of that, the gestures are fine. I've switched my 2 XL, for example, over to the new gesture system. To each their own -- if you don't like it, you just don't like it. But I would suggest trying it for a week or two.

From reviews I've heard the P3 has the option to bring back the old nav bar and the 3XL doesn't. Weird. I should be getting both of them in a few hours so i'll check out the difference.
How do I auto show/hide the 3 button nav bar? I could have sworn my phone was doing this but suddenly stopped. I use action launcher. A quick small swipe up would make the nav bar appear, that or I am losing my mind lol

Maybe it's the dock you are thinking of. I know most launchers are able to hide/show the dock area which is usually right above the navbar. I do miss that ability from my old LG V30 and V20. I'm sure there is probably a way to do this on pixel 3 but I haven't looked into it yet.
That sounds like immersive mode.
Settings>System>Gestures>System Navigation>Gesture Navigation. It works with third party launchers now, but after you activate it, you have to go into your launcher's settings and select default launcher. If you don't, it will keep reverting to the stock launcher. It won't show the buttons at all anymore, you just use the gestures.

Hello,
I don't know if action launcher can trigger immersive mode. Dis you run a custom ROM?
If you wish, you can enable immersive on Android 10 and bellow with this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zacharee1.systemuituner
If you are rooted, you can just go in the app and enable the option. If you are not rooted, you'll have to open a command prompt and issue:
adb shell pm grant com.zacharee1.systemuituner android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
Good luck...

Try SystemUI Tuner on the play store. No root but requires adb commands.

Hello,
I'm using Nova Launcher. If you don't mind the status bar a little bit during browsing, etc... I hide it using Nova on desktop. If I didn't, I had somee apps, which menus on top left of the screen got hidden once the status bar disappeared. Didn't have that issue with a notchless device (Pixel 1 XL).
Cheers...
Sébastien.
