I'm looking for a case that has very low sides. The sides of the case can't be much higher than the screen. Right at screen level would be ideal for me]. I use the 2 XL in immersive mode and use pie in LMT for all nav bar operations. If the side of the case is too high, it is sometimes difficult to access pie easily every time. I've found if I adjust the pie touch area too much, it interferes with other screen taps. I've got the Spidgen right now, but its sides are a bit to tall. I started looking at all of the cases overall thickness, but found this isn't necessarily reliable in determining how high the side go above the screen (some cases just have thicker back protection).
I have this one
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B074...=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=pixel+2+xl+case
It doesn't add much bulk and the edges are barely higher than the screen. I thought it might be flush but sat a pencil on it and there is maybe a millimeter or 2 gap where the screen won't touch the surface.

The Google Fabric Case has a very tiny lip. I use it with pie controls and it works excellent. Bonus is that the screen is protected face down ever so slightly, and the fabric looks nice and professional.

The camera hump protected from flat surfaces because the lip that is built around the fingerprint scanner. I have one and when laying flat you can see a gap between any flat surface and the camera screen. If you're ok with minimal protection I highly recommend the MNML case.

My MNML showed up today.. box was all bent, case was all folded and creased. Unusable. Sent a message to the company, we shall see how they respond.
So I ended up ordering a Mnml case. I ordered the clear black. Got the package from Amazon today. Box says its clear black. I open it up and the case is blue. That's not the best part. The case has no cutout for the finger print sensor. Also, the cutouts for the volume and power buttons are on the left side instead of right. There was also an extra button cutout on the right side all the way and the top. That's some quality control and checks.

Manufacturer: Cruzerlite
Case: Bugdroid Circuit (Nexus 5)
Color: Black
Description (summary of the cruzerlite description): Shock absorbent and scratch resistant thermoplastic premium polyurethane case with custom designed Android print on the back.
Overall impression and build quality: The build quality of this case is excellent. The best i've seen so far. The case itself is glossy whereas the back has some some kind of a soft touch surface with an Android print.
Cutouts: All cutouts are on the right place with the right dimension. You still have the click-response when you press the power button or the volume rocker. The power button feels more solid with the case. At the beginning it might be a little bit unusual for you to press the buttons because the case is a little bit higher than the button itself. In my opinion it feels much better with the case.
Screen protector compatibility: Yes, this case might lift up your screen protector if you don't adjust your screen protector precisely. It depends on your screen protector though. I've had that problem but fixed it with a few adjustments of the screen protector.
Headphone jack: All of my headphones are compatible with this case. The headphone jack cutout seems to be big enough.
I would definitely buy it again. It looks just amazing!

This one looks cool. might pick one up for my replacement nexus 5.
I like it but I don't use it that much anymore. I was caseless for about a month and I never came close to dropping my phone once. After day 1 I dropped the phone for the first time with the case on. It's a bit slippery. I find the phone itself naked is very grippy. The black N5 at least. So I use the case when I want to set the phone down on its back. So I don't scratch the rim around the camera lens. Don't get me wrong the case protects the phone good, I just think the natural form of the phone is easier to handle.

Are the buttons fairly easy to press? I have the popular Nexus 5 Casemate case, which is also a TPU case with button cutouts. But, the power button was and remains sort of a pain, as it's recessed a bit too far from the outer surface of the case.

do you mean the case-mate naked tough clear slim case or the one from casology ?
i'd say it depends on the thickness of your fingers and the way you press the buttons. in case of the power button ... for me it's not like i press the button itself. it's more like i apply a litte bit of pressure on the case with my thumb to press the power button. since the button itself is surrounded by the case on all sides, only the middle area of my thumb goes down to the power button. if i press it like that, i get a louder click as response.

Anyone deciding to go naked with the XL? I am going to give it a go for the weekend mostly because I want to see some real case reviews first but hopefully that I feel comfy enough to stay that way...

They make cases for phones?!
I went on aliexpress and bought an array of things, few phone pouches some glass protectors, ordered a matte white dbrand skin with Google style G. And a clear case from amazon (they are tpu and rubber would prefer hard clear case but I can't find any just yet)
I'm going naked but with a tempered glass screen protector, and a slickwraps for the back
No real reason. The phone cases are what they are. Nothing groundbreaking in the case category, no reason to spend big bucks. I got an inexpensive clear Tauri. I actually like how they look and don't want to scratch it up.

I'm thinking about going naked. To talk myself into it I got the protection plan and will save $100 for the first major drop. I'm just not sure if I can handle a phone that has been dropped still works with dent and scratches. I guess that's the long standing debate though.

Same. Too slippery. I still don't understand why they don't all use more grit in aluminum, more kevlar etc. They make them so stupid for function sometimes. Like how the fingerprint reader, although great on the back, is just a tad too high to be the primary resting spot unless you forgo the pinky hold underneath. That's just lazy UX.
I also think the fingerprint scanner should be lower. Not a deal breaker, but that would be my preference.

I'll probably try intelliarmor. Wasn't really impressed with the other tempered glass screen protector brands, like Nillkin, Amfilm, and Spigen. They either scratched too easily, or had weird adhesives that show rainbow coatings from an angle.
I ended up ordering a live case from Google today, with a beautiful picture I took in the Bahamas in September. I also ordered a Spigen rugged armor case

I think it's the perfect position. It shouldn't be placed where you normally rest your finger or you'd the the reader every time you hold the phone. Also, you aren't supposed to use the reader all the time and when you have to use it, simply using lifting your index takes no effort.
The only issue is in general is that there's no way to unlock the phone when it's rearing on a table.

It's subjective. I think it's supposed to be the rest position so it remains natural. Also, why would G put a swipe function on it if it were only to be used to unlock the phone? When I need to use it, it is a lift but it's also a reposition of my pinky to a decidedly more side grip and not underneath causing me to not be as sure handed on the device.

I can't guarantee that the pics are of the final product, but I thought I'd give a heads up to anyone else that has ordered the case.
The product discription says:
PERFECT CUTOUTS - The case fits your Pixel 2 XL like a glove, exposed buttons and ports are perfectly cut giving you full easy access. The camera cutout has a raised bump to protect your camera on surfaces. The front of the case has a raised rim to protect your phone’s screen from scratching.

Keep us updated when you hear from them.. Indeed that will be a disappointment..
This is the only reason why i did not order mnml this time. Loved it on my pixel xl. if i want to set my phone done on a metal surface or stone then i am worried that the camera could crack or that the housing around it would scratch.... Still searching for a thin black case that isnt flimsy like TPU. One like this or one that is maybe made similar to the original Nexus case for the 6P. That wasnt very thin , but it was made from a more sturdy and rigid rubber. Also FYI, the peel case and the mnml case are the exact same case. I went through this last year on the Pixel XL 1.
thanks for this.... Had it in my Amazon cart waiting for reviews of it. Gonna hold off and wait to see what Diztronic brings
The person made an update to the post
"EDIT: Ok, so apparently the bump around the fingerprint sensor is large enough that the camera bump doesn't touch the surface. It's not ideal but at least it won't touch on flat surfaces."
Nope no raised bumped around the camera lens. Lens and case are almost flush. Just got mine. Pics attached. Buttons are a lil hard to get to. Case side panel is too flushed to the buttons, if that makes any sense. Also its pretty slippery compared to the actual back of the 2 XL.
https://imgur.com/a/psSRB
It will do for now, for me until Peel ships there's and I can compare.
Well crap. I ordered 2 a long time ago and they just shipped as well. I'm not liking the pictures and what I'm seeing. Guess I'll just keep the case I have on it now
So MNML got back to me.

How does the case grip feel in hand? Less, equal, or more grippy than bare phone?

By looking at the back, that's what I thought might be going on. Seems a little questionable though.
Except nobody holds the phone in a way that the bottom lands first!
People hold the phone by the middle or the bottom and often than not the top camera part lands on the surface first. But that's not the issue here, the issue is that you shouldn't have to be concerned with how your phone lands after putting on a case!
A truly bold move by them when the market is flooded with $2 cases from AliExpress without this issue. Most people will opt for a little thicker case from Spigen or whoever to protect the best aspect of pixel phones - the camera.
Fix your ****.
My biggest issue was that the mnml case caused significant scratching on the base of my pixel XL first gen. It made little specks through the black and was showing silver. I think it is because the case want tight like a traditional tpu case that stretches. I'm currently using one of the China cases. I needed something to hold me over until I can find a thin case that works.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
I've had the MNML case on my xl for 6 months with no issues of scratching at all. As far as the xl2's MNML case and lack of hump around camera; I'm ok with the hump being around the fp sensor. Interesting as to why they didn't choose to"hump" the camera tho.. possibly aesthetics and feel?
Got mine in yesterday. I'll be returning them. While they are thin and sleek it doesn't protect anything and as prior mention. It doesn't have a protection around the camera.
I love the thinness of this case, hate that there isn't a completely clear option. Has anyone found something like this? Ultra thin case (not raised on the front bezel) that's completely clear?
I've been using this case since Saturday and, while I love the minimal feel, I don't think I'll be using it long term. The button cutouts are precise, which would normally be a good thing. However, in this case the case is slightly thicker than the buttons protrude from the phone so they actually become recessed. The precise cutout makes it even harder then to discern which buttons you're feeling and pressing, at least for me, requires using my fingernail. Totally kills it for me.
I reached out to Peel and they said there case will have protection for the camera.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
While I did just get it tonight, I'm in the other camp.... I actually love it. It's exactly what I want, a skin with no edges to deal with.
I know all of the complaints when I ordered it, so I guess I knew I would like it.
I pre-ordered 2 of these cases weeks ago, just got them last night. They actually sent me 4 total for some reason, so I have 2 clear and 2 really blue. I'll post some pics in a bit. The fps bump does keep the camera from touching what the phone is sitting on though. This case offers no protection other than scratches, I already knew this though. This will be my weeknight weekend case. The buttons are totally flush with this case so it's hard to tell what your pushing, just FYI.
https://youtu.be/q_vnnBof5BI
Also the video and audio is using the pixel 2 xl with the rode video micro.
Would you mind posting some pictures of the phone in the case? Specifically I am interested in the front view of how much bulk it adds to the edge of the phone when looking at it straight on, and how much it sticks out above the screen(if at all). Would really appreciate it. Thank you.
Looks like the Pikata where the lens bump might touch surface when laying flat.
Please check with phone in.

If you lay the phone flat on the table the screen is flush with where the case ends. I would not consider this a lay on table design. I have a screen protector though so that adds a tiny bit of thickness.
Do these pictures help? Sorry I have to wait till I get my wife's pixel 2 to take more pictures of my phone in its case. It is very very little bulk on the sides. One of the thinnest cases ive seen. Not quite as thin as the MNML case but its very very close.

It's the Skinomi screen protector. I personally hate screen protectors and have never used them on an Android phone and I've never scratched or broken a screen. I don't like any screen protectors including this one just because they can be annoying but this is a necessary annoyance until I get back from my trip overseas. I'd hate to be in another country and either break or scratch my screen. The Skinomi is okay in my opinion but I'm definitely not one to judge screen protectors because I pretty much hate them all.

Thanks for the pictures, if you lay the case down on the back, is the camera protected yet?

The camera is flush so I wouldn't say it adds any actual protection if it falls straight on its back. The case is just a hair thicker than the camera bump so it should not scratch if you rub the phone around on a table or something but if its on concrete or something I bet it would scratch the lens.
Where is it in black for XL 2 not on Amazon
I dont see it anymore. Looks like they took the black off for the 2 XL. maybe they ran out of stock.
I've been using this case for about a week and can say it is one of the better cases I've used on a phone. It is a bit slippery out of the box, but once you "break it in" and has plenty or grip. The buttons are pretty solid and cut-outs are decent. You will not get much screen protection if any but I feel more confident about the protection this will provide then the MNML. Like mentioned earlier, the camera if for the most part flush with the case surface but it will provide a little lift of the surface then going naked without a case.
Broke the rear glass
Top-right corner is totally broken and there's a crack thru the whole glass.
At the moment I put some silicon on the corner to avoid pieces of glass from falling, but I need now a case, a very very very slim one.
Bought one from Amazon that was supposed to be slim but... the problem is that the cover on the two longer sides is too high, meaning it is higher than the white aluminium side. Not sure I can explain...
I'm looking for the slimmest and thinnest case that just covers the back and not much on the sides.
Any help?
Thanks

I had this one and it was the thinnest I could find. The only real protection is on the back of the phone which proved to be what I needed most. It finally cracked one morning I woke up from my couch and did a full stretch putting my phone into my ceiling fan on high. The case initially took a little get used to due to me being accustomed to the excellent grip from the cloth official Google case. In short, is worth the price, absolutely! Would I buy again, No.
I know this one, too thick and on the sides is too high

That's what I have and it's really thin
This is an extremely thin case but not cheap. I have it and it super nice.

Practically identical, and may be exactly what you're looking for. I have both, and love them.

+1 to this. My favorite case, but it scares me to carry it sometimes. Super nice, super thin. Don't imagine it will protect much though.

By far the thinnest one I've owned and the way it fits around the edges is pretty flush. Fits like a glove and feels good in the hand. Not really good for protection though if you drop it, but more like a wrap to keep it from getting dinged up.
I can post a photo of mine later if you want one.

I'm actually interested in getting this exact case, but in Wine Red. Are there any issues with screen protectors? Would appreciate a photo as well.

I no longer use glass screen protectors, moved to Skinomi(best screen protector I've found so far).
When I did use them, I used curved ones and the case fit EXACTLY to the edges of it. Everything fit like a glove.

Good to know. I also use film screen protectors (currently using a Sparin one, as the Spigen was sold out at the time) as they don't have the issues that tempered glass ones suffer with curved screens.
