[HOWTO] Upgrading From 7.1 to 8.1 of insanity ROM

Before I Began
So the first thing is that I *think* last time I said that my music and photos stayed intact. I don’t think the music did, because 2 days later, when I went to listen to some, there was none there! No worries though, it is all on my desktop computer too.
So, I took stock of what I had installed :-
• Music player
• TodoistDroidLite
• Google Maps
• Gmail
• Flickr Uploader called upstream
• Qype
• Beautiful Widgets
• Bump v2
• nitrality (of course!)
• Seesmic
• Video Player
I then wanted to take a copy of everything, to do this I plugged in via the cable, with the Samsung USB drivers installed on the PC, and copied the files over after connecting the USB as follows :

Selecting the second of those notifications lets you connect :
Done.. Copied everything over to a folder on my desktop PC.
Getting All The Bits
Downloading 8.1 of insanity from http://insanity.rollus.net/rom/insanity-8.1.zip
And then from http://insanity.rollus.net/index.php?dir=beta/
I grabbed :
• EZBase-3.0.7z
• EZBase.pit
• EZOdin.exe
Also worth looking at is odin.png which is a screenshot of the settings to make in EZOdin – that’s quite handy.
Starting
Remember to start EZOdin, make all your selections per the screenshot *then* start your phone in download mode *then* plug in your phone, so that EZOdin sees it. Choose the settings in EZOdin which were listed in the screenshot.
Finally click on START in EZOdin
The installation will take a few minutes, you’ll see progress in EZOdin AND on the phone.
After the installation the phone will reboot.
Follow the onscreen prompts to reboot the phone again… this will take a little while.
You then get a localisation and initial setup wizard, I opted to :-
• Use Packet Data – on
• WIFI – left off (for now) if you don't you might get stuck
• Google location services – turn off
Copy insanity over and install
Copy the insanity zip file to the phone’s internal SDCard. This is where the USB drivers come in to play, since when you plug in your phone you’ll get a drive showing all the files/folders on the phone. Once you’ve copied the zip file over to the sdcard, restart the phone in recovery mode (power it off, totally, volume up + home + power, wait for logo, and let go of all buttons), and install insanity ROM as follows :
• Scroll down to the “Install zip from sdcard” option and select it
• Highlight “choose zip from sdcard” and select it
• Scroll down to sd/ and select it
• Highlight insanity-8.1.zip and select it
• Scroll down to Yes – Install insanity, and select it
Now wait a little while.
At the end, choose Go Back, and then “Reboot system now”
Now you get to walk through the localisation stuff (again) – but I think that there are a few less screens.
Add in Extra Software .. just like before sort of
As I said at the beginning I was a former 7.1 user, so one of the things that I wanted to get sorted was the nitrality app, which is now on the Android Market. The two that I got from the forum thread are :
• Gmail Pack
• Google Maps Pack
You can reboot to recovery mode by holding the power button and choosing the Recovery Mode option, and install both zip’s after you’ve copied them to your sd/ folder.
I set up gmail, confirmed I was receiving email. I also added the shortcut to the home screen, and also the dialer.
I went to the market, and searched for and updated nitrality, and grabbed quickpic at the same time. I put a shortcut to both of those on the home screen too.
From nitrality, I installed Music Player, and Video Player, and checked what I could see :
• All music is still there
• All photos are still there
• Videos still play
I also moved Settings off the launcher, and put the camera there instead. I put a shortcut to the music player on the home screen. I installed and configured Beautiful Widgets, just so that I can have the weather on my home screen! This where I am now.
One thing to note with nitrality, is that you have to grant it superuser access, I always tick the box to remember the decision, otherwise you get the pop-up all the time!
I have to exclude a bunch of folders in QuickPic (and Gallery is the same) to stop Album Art appearing :
To do that you just do a long hold on the folder, and choose Exclude from the pop-up menu.
I configure Dialer to be on the action binding “Swipe down”, so that I can get in to it quickly. To do that :
• Go in to Preferences
• Select "Action Bindings"
• Choose "Swipe Down"
The final thing (and this drives me slowly mad) is the haptic feedback stuff, I turn that off :
So on that screen I turn off :
• Audible Selection
• Haptic Feedback

nice tuto. I had problems with repartitioning and ezbase3.
maybe you should add a "remove all lagfixes, revert back to rfs - if you use a custom kernel" to your guide
No idea why this is needed, cause i thought that a repartition including pit and fs should wipe the hell outta of the device but... i had massive troubles @ this step.

2. Must have root and ClockWorkMod Recovery
3. Wipe Cache
4. Wipe Data/Factory reset

6. Reboot (First boot can take a few minutes.)

Bugs:
+ Lockscreen has some non-english writing still
- http://www.galnetmiui.co.uk/content/miui-themes ,updated theme.
+ Lockscreen shows a smaller background in the top-left and the current background in the rest
- If you go to theme and choose a lockscreen of your choose it fixes this problem.
+ In-call screen background is the one from the lockscreen top-left, however full-sized
+ Default browser uses Baidu for search (Please can we have Google?). Could replace default with Chrome perhaps even?
- In browser settings >search you can change it to google and it will search google from there on. baidu must be default.
+ Under the Status Bar Settings the "expanded notification view" two lines aren't capitalized
+ The "Recommended" folder starts empty?
+ Google+ not installed like it is in the official ICS for Galaxy Nexus (Not a biggy, just something I noticed)
+ Google Music can't be installed from the Play Store, unlike G+.
+ Can't switch from photocamera to camera, getting fc.

yeah, it's like GSM updates to the thread don't matter. the ROMs still build on a weekly basis, but they just never update the OP really.
also, MIUI.us and miuiandroid are different.
edit: and thank you for the thread. please be sure that things are labeled correctly, ie currently the MIUIAndroid links to MIUI.us. as previously stated, those are two different things. cheers mate!

Unfortunately not yet, also switching to the video option causes FC. The current camera is still the AOSP one.

With the release of Android Wear 2.0 beta 3, Google changed the way Wear apps are installed on devices.
So I designed this simple tool to extract the wear compatible apk from already build APK's and install it to wear device via adb.
So what this does is unpack full apk to temp directory on windows and sideload it via adb to the device.
Well is not much, but I felt a tool like this will make things easier to install old Android Wear 2.0 Beta2 and lower, apps to Beta 3 and above devices.

I extracted apk files by APK extractor from phone.

google fit is a bit different but I know a way to install it... will test out and release update as soon as it works properly

you can use external download site like APK Mirror or just Google it, but you can also download the APK from your phone to PC
I personally use the second method
so I use Solid Explorer, navigate to Collections -> Applications -> User apps
here I select all apps that are related to watch (ex: all watch faces, Google Maps, etc) and copy to SD card (you can use internal memory)
from there I move the APK files to PC and use the installer

Treble ROM based on Phh Treble 12 with MicroG, signature spoofing, Feb 05 security patch and most FOSS apps.

There is two versions rw and ro.
Download what you need
Unpack
Inside you find:
All related img files
flash.bat - Windows
flash.sh - Linux
install.txt - terminal and manual instruction
mi folder - some themes for MiXplorer
Backup all your data because it would be deleted!!!
I'm not responsible for any loss or damage!!!
When inside folder start from terminal/command prompt ./flash.bat or ./flash.sh
Wait untill done ~ 5 min

RO​Some tips:
For navigation I use Magic Earth, but GMaps works too.
My banks and airline apps working you have to test your stuff.
Aurora Store should work if you need some stuff from Goole Play install it from FDroid and try.
Don't forget to give some permissions in MicroG and enable location backends.

90 FPS can be enabled in Settings/Phh Treble Settings/Misc Features/Forse FPS
or in Settings/Display/Smooth Display with would auto adjust fps
or Settings/Dev Options/Force Pick refresh rate and to be sure Show refresh rate

If MiXplorer wan't works right from start just clear cache and storage Setting/Apps/MiXporer/Storage & Cache
To import extra skins for MiXplorer copy files that I provided to storage, open MiXplorer navigate to files, short click on file and import to apply

If got problems with sound enable Alternative audio policy in Setting/Phh Treble Settings/Qualicomm Features

There is 2 launchers -Stock and Lawnchair12. Free to remove any but keep stock if you wanna Recent App view.
Any apps from rw version can be removed.
If for some reason rom won't boot don't panic and try to hard reboot (hold power button)

You not in fastboot mode. After reboot in bootloader you do fastboot reboot fastboot before flash.
Check install.txt file for manual order.

Thanks for all the work and time it's wonderful.
I have a couple problems I have been reaching and unable to fix them.
My phone is a OPO nord n10 5g unlocked. I had no problem installing the ROM. Since day one my 5g will not work only 3g on the T-Mobile network. I have fixed this problem in the past with not much problem, been weeks and still no fix. Every time I try to change the APN and reboot the phone switches back the APN she was set to during the setup and still on super slow 3g.
Do you know the T-Mobile 5g APN for the Tampa FL area I don't thinkit makes a difference.
2. Since the install of your ROM the when I open most apps microG like magic earth and other apps I get a microG core error and if I type to the side the app king of works guidance kept the vocals going but the visual was frozen. Any way fix this maybe update microG. I also have Vanced YouTube instaled with microG not sure if this will cause a problem.

You need update microg. Drop what version you have in private message and I give you link to different microg. For T-Mobile if I recall right they have some apps installed on stock that control apn. don't have T-Mobile version to look at it. Also check if there is imssettings apk.It shoud be in product I guess. If not try to install it.
