Notification Light - Am I Missing Something? - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

So... I'm noticing the notification light only blinds for certain apps... I have it turned on to blink but it's not... What gives? I'm coming from phones that flashes for all notifications... Maybe I missed a setting?

you will need a 3rd party app like light manager or light flow.

I can definitely do that! Thank you... I forget those apps exist.

Go to settings, then Apps & Notifications.
Pick an app, for this example pick Gmail, then pick App Notifications.
Now see the section that shows your email, click on Mail.
Now you're taken to a screen, there's an option for Blink Light. Turn that on/off.
A lot of app's notifications, the Blink Light is turned off.
Edit: Found easier setting. Go to Settings then Apps & Notifications.
Select Notifications
Boom right there turn on Blink Light.
This will blink for ALL notifications.

[Q] notification light

I just bought a HTC Desire Z two days ago, and was wondering about the notification light, as there are TWO in the desire Z
my question is, should the top notification light goes on when I recieve a notification, or only the bottom one will light up?
and if it's only the bottom one, how can I make the top one light up too? and in different colors, like in my friends HTC G1, he has blue, green, and red
thx for your time!
On my stock ROM (see my signature), the trackpad light blinks if you turn on that notification, but it's only every 10 seconds or so, and I actually never noticed it originally and thought it wasn't working at all. It doesn't blink the power LED.
However, I use the "Led Me Know" app from the market, and you can configure that to blink either the top LED or the trackpad LED, depending on how you set it up.
You can't make the trackpad LED blink different colours unfortunately, this was looked into a while back. The top one is limited to amber or green.
RE
ok, thx alot for the fast reply
I used LED Me Know. Works fine for the LED, but it often overrides (e.g.) my Gmail notification sound with the standard notification sound I have for messages. Or it just plays both notification sounds. I hate that, and there's no option to activate or deactivate it messing with the sounds.
Does this happen to you too?

Sorry I don't use Gmail notification and I haven't tried playing with the sounds. I suggest contacting the developer about it, he responded quickly to me when I contacted him before.

You can disable the g-mail notifications and let the app do it's own thing...
One weird thing I have noticed with the app is that it delays the notifications... Like first it disables the notification for any texts... and it pretty much waits out the time that it would have taken for the notification (vibrations) and then follows through with the notification you selected in the app settings. So pretty much I see the LED blinking for like 5 seconds before I get any audible or vibrating notification.
EDIT: I also realize that this is very poorly worded and hard to follow, But I can't think of any other way to say it so bear with me!! XD

[Q] Notification Light

I am using Light Flow but have been seeing a yellow notification light and there is nothing that it is notifying. I am not positive, but I think I saw the same color notification before loading Light Flow.
I can not figure out what this is notifying me of and in Light Flow I don't have anything notify me in yellow.
Anyone know what's going on with the light?
I have the same issue as well. Even after I uninstalled light flow it remains.
You need to go into whatever is set for yellow, and find the setting that removes notifications. I had yellow set for google talk, but the notification light would go off until I physically opened the app, even if the notification was removed from the status bar. You can set it so that the notification light disappears upon turning on the screen.

Yea, I uninstalled the app, when I did have it I did use the setting you mentioned but it didn't help.
It would be nice for Google to build in something like Light flow into the system Nativity that wouldn't be so buggy.

Whatsapp and LED light

Hi
Does anybody know how to get the LED notification light to work through whatsapp? (I mean without using a 3rd party applicaiton). There is an option in whatsapp to have the LED blink, but I cant manage to get it to work. Any ideas?
Using stock 4.1.1 GSM GNex

What color did you select? Mine is set to green and works fine.
I selected green as well. Also tried a few other colours but still no luck.
Do do you have popup notifications enabled in whatsapp by any chance?

No. Disabled.
Is Whatsapp the only app that's having trouble controlling the LED of your gnex?
Activate and setup in app settings>notifications
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
@OP Are you sure the 'Pulse Notification' setting is checked to work?
(Settings > Display > Pulse Notification)
Can't think of anything else, my whatsapp led blinks green on notification just fine.
Yeah, pulse notification in the phones settings menu is enabled. I'm using light flow now to control my led which works fine. For some reason I just could not get whatsapp to blink the LED itself. So I went the 3rd party route.
Thanks for the help
hello, i'm using lightfow on AOKP black bean and generally it's work good
i noticed 've the same problem, no led notification from whatsapp...

Whatsapp is supported in the full (paid for) version of light flow.

you can try reinstalling whatsapp or emailing them to report an issue
EDIT: Not sure if this matters but I have the Whatsapp version from the market (version 2.8.4771) but on their own website the version number available for android is Version 2.8.4923
http://www.whatsapp.com/android/
Not sure what's that all about but you could try both and see if one works.

Ah sorry, I misunderstood you. Yes thats something that I also thought of - whatsapp not having access to the LED because Lightflow has 'taken control' of the LED. However to test this theory, I uninstalled Light Flow, but still could not manage to get whatsapp to blink the LED by itself.

Why don't you use the LED Notification build in AOPK? Settings -> Rom Control -> LED Control

i did too...also reinstalled whatsapps without any luck
My Whatsapp doesn't blink the led either. It did a while ago I know for sure. It has just stopped functioning and I can't get it to work again. Not that important to me though.
Notification LED
Is it possible to use Light Flow Lite and have stock LED notifications work too?
ie. so whatsapp notification LED works too because both Light Flow and default LED settings are on

notification led not working any more

guys, i didnt get the exact moment when it stopped working and can only speculate about what caused it, but my notification led isnt working any more. nothing triggers it. not whatsapp, not gmail...
is there any way to test it or tune it without relying on third party apps?
im on stock taimen with flash kernel, systemless xposed and gravity box.
thanks!
I dont think it ever has??? Isn't that why we have always on display and dont need notification light?
It definitely works. I use the app Light Flow - LED Control to customize my LED. Maybe try that app with charging light and see if it turns on when charging. Make sure you have blink light turned on in apps and notifications --> notifications --> Blink light.

LED notification light (Solved)

Hi guys,
So this has been driving me nuts.
The notification blink light is turned on in Settings > Apps & Notifications > Notifications. However, I've never seen the LED actually turn on during normal usage. Not during charging, nor when charged, nor when I have any kind of notification active (emails, texts etc etc).
I suspected the actual LED component might be broken, so I downloaded Light Flow and ran some tests. Yes, the LED works and will display in any colour during Light Flow tests. However when I go back to just using the phone normally, nothing. The LED never turns on. I'm on 8.1. Completely stock. No root.
Any clue why this is happening? I'd appreciate any help or ideas whatsoever.
Thanks!
Ben.

My LED works too at least when I test it. However it does not work when enabled. Seems like google disabled it on purpose because of the on screen notifications.
