I scoured XDA to find the Verizon pixel 2 XL forum and I'm not seeming to find it. So I thought I would make a Verizon bootloader unlock discussion thread. Has anybody heard any news on anyone working on a bootloader unlock for Verizon?
Here is a link to the LG development bootloader unlock supported device page. Let's all keep our eyes peeled on this to see if LG allows a BL unlock for the pixel 2 xl.

I'm just here to say good luck. You're gonna need it. Glad this is the device that is getting me off of big red

I've not seen anyone talking about even starting to look for an exploit to unlock the BL.
@TCPDump this person was talking about something a little while back, not sure if any progress was made though.

Check the LG developer site. They unlock the bootloader's for LG 6 and numerous other phones. Since the 2 XL is LG. Doesn't hurt to check it out.
I think your best chance would be if jcase and beaups were working on it. Jcase has retired. I'm not saying it won't happen, but I think it very unlikely that we will ever see a VZW Pixel XL 2 with an unlocked bootloader.

Sorry but you're wrong. The original unlock for the Pixel XL was created by jcase and beaups. Remember, the original Pixel's were HTC hardware.

If you REALLY want an unlocked BL. Sell your VZW version and buy direct from Google.
Very VERY rarely do VZW BL's get cracked. Exceptions are Jcase usually but that's Moto/HTC.
Sorry to be yet another Debby Downer. But the VZW edition is not what you're looking for. If that's all you could get, then you're SOL and I wouldn't hold my breath. As someone who has been with VZW for almost a decade +. It's once in a blue moon when it does happen.
Can you achieve root without unlocking the BL or is that impossible?

If someone finds an exploit, yeah it's possible. Doubt anyone will be looking for one on the Verizon variant though.

I had my heart set on getting this on the 11th until I got a reply from lg saying the boot loader will be locked. Makes it hard to put this s3 down or pass up the note knowing that. So I'll wait in the wings if the boot loader is unlocked by devs here I may pick it up but not before

+1. If you guys really want to get this beasty phone...i suggest you guys start signing the petition and pass it around to your friends and other forums. It's time to put an end to locked bootloaders by the manufacturers. It's our money so we should be able to use any way we want it.
How much good will a petition actually do here?
Anyway, I sincerely hope there is a practical way for it to be unlocked.
I would never expect for the device itself to come unlocked but, I think it's fairly reasonable to hope there is a manufacturer provided way to unlock it.

Not a "source," it was LG tech support. I got the same "no reply" reply which I will gladly post for you below:
LG Support said:
Good Morning, Jared!
Thank you for contacting LG Electronics, I understand your concern, and it will be my pleasure to assist you as far as I am able.

Yeah, I don't know about LG specifically, but most tech support people don't know jack. Asking tech support is almost always less useful than checking XDA... or usually even a quick google search (heck, that's often what tech support resorts to)

I'm still hopeful XDA will find a way around the locked bootloader.
I think it was the S3 or the Gnex on verizon had like 2,000$ bounty on breaking the bootloader.

Professor Google usually has the answer... An XDA-style unboxing would be nice...
I doubt it would be beneficial even if this phone had an unlocked bootloader. LG would likely never provide any meaningful support in the form of driver, kernel sources etc, so any functional AOSP/AOKP roms would be non existent.

I can't believe they didn't lock that out! I was gonna wait for a Moto X Developer Edition if it didn't, but now this just makes me decision a little bit easier. I've had an HTC One as my work phone since it came out and I love it and I'll be getting a Moto X tomorrow but I don't know how long I'm keeping that job and this has been making my decision harder.

is the past is indicative of the future, unlock now while you can under "other devices"
both the inc4g and dna were able to utilize that to unlock for short periods of time after release, and both got locked out within 10 days-2 weeks
so for those that get the device, don't **** around...just unlock
urgh its like a race against time for me! I get home tomorrow and I'm picking it up around 6pm - I hope I can unlock immediately when I get home

First of all, I just recently switched from IOS to Android so I don't know a lot of the correct terminology or parts of rooting yet. But, as I've searched around it seems there is no way to root the Verizon model of the htc one m9. All I want to do is be able to root my phone and get cyanogen mod 12. Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
As of this moment, the only way is thru the use of a Java Card. There's a thread in this forum devoted to that, where you can get with one of the members that has a card and ship your phone to them for the procedure. Other than that, just waiting for beaups and jcase to get their method safe and available for public release. There's also a discussion on that.
Thank you so much for responding so quickly! I think I will just wait for the devs to release something. But, what would they be releasing and how can I keep an eye out for it?

You can also make an attempt at finding someone close to you who would be willing to meet, the procedure is quick and painless from what I hear and it will unlock your phone, it is called "S-Off" in the HTC world and allows you to unlock your bootloader to make the possibilities endless, giving the ability to flash custom ROM's and custom kernels. It is most definitely worth it.. Here is the thread for Java card
OK thanks! Maybe I can find someone on Craigslist to do this.
Please don't look on Craigslist. If you need root that bad, I know someone that can s-off your device with a Java card. Shipping costs both ways will be your responsibility though.

Every bad thing that has ever happened in the world started with this sentence...LMAO JK!
Not every but alot of them unfortunately.
I have never had a bad thing happen to me through Craigslist. Actually quite the opposite. I got deals I couldn't find anywhere else and I met people that were absolutely awesome! Actually the roommates I live with, I found through Craigslist and the job I currently have is because of Craigslist.
Of course 99% of the time you'll be fine but that other 1% will land you in a body bag. There have been a couple Craigslist transactions turned homicides on California in the past few years. If and when I do buy or sell something on Craigslist, I always meet in a very busy public place and bring someone with me. Can't be too careful these days sad to say.

Try ping-pong root in the Samsung s6 thread. Beta 6 will root the m9??
Sent from my SM-G925V using XDA Premium HD app
Simple root on this phone won't really be of much use to the regular user with the way write protection is on this device. The real deal will only arrive when s-off and unlocked bootloader happens.

I could have sworn I read that the Sunshine would work on the Verizon M9, but since there is no root, it doesn't get past the initial part of the Sunshine process... I very likely am mistaken though since all other variants were unlockable on HTCdev.

However, it is through @Dark Nightmare and @iaTa's efforts that we've come this far. Today, I share with everyone a new method to turn a T-Mobile 6T into an international variant. One that does NOT require an unlocked bootloader or a SIM unlock!

I PM'd mauronfrio, along with someone else, I do have the files unzipped, the ROM, MSM and the drivers.
I don't see anything in the post about how we patch the files. I would assume you need something from the international variant. I did not want to make a post with links because I don't know how to go about installing the drivers and I figured it would be better to wait until someone patches it but if anybody has driver experience and needs to restore their phone I will give you the link.

If an unlock-less conversion method comes out for the 7T or McLaren 5G like it did for the 6T, I'm going to JOD to those.

I was about to buy this phone and like all the ones I buy I go to XDA to check if it has a developer to back it up but I find that it does not have anyone.
My question is ... Why doesn't he have anyone behind him? Is the phone itself like Sprint's LG G5 that is almost impossible to modify or is it just a dead cell phone?
