One of my friends who lives in USA recently got her Google Pixel 2 XL delivered. She got the unlocked 128GB version and is using it on T Mobile.
She can't find the Google Lens option which is supposed to be available in the google photos app.
She is getting the info icon in place of the Google Lens icon in her phone.
i have attached a screenshot from the photos app where you can clearly see what i said.
i have also attached a screenshot containing the software info of the phone.
Can anyone help?
Might need to update photos app? My Google Lens button is right where the "i" button is on your screenshot.

I'm on version 3.8.0.173617484 and it was updated on 10/27/2017, possible just not rolled out for her yet? I have no other answers. In fact, I just noticed that on my phone yesterday. Sorry, I don't have a better idea.

Negative, the website, APK Mirror, has the latest version of the Photos app if you want to grab it from there and install it, I would link, but I haven't posted enough to be allowed, lol.
Problem Solved Guys.
Updated the app and It's Fully Functional.
Thanks.
I completely forgot about lens, tried it on a few pictures and it seems absolutely useless. I had it look at a bottle of liquor, assuming it would tell me the brand, it labels it as "bottle". A picture of a church comes back as "landmark". Picture of the Williamsburg bridge "suspension bridge". Well, duh

Lens is available in at least two places. One is in Photos (not camera) and the other is Google Assistant. In photos, at the bottom of the picture of a picture already taken, from right to left you should see the share, edit, Lens and delete buttons. For GA, long press the home (center) button. When GA pops up, Lens should be in the bottom right corner. These have been present before 8.1, so maybe you were just looking in the wrong places. Read one of the many reviews on how best to use it.
Just sign in to photos app with your Google account, after signing in you will see the lens icon instead of info icon.

Im a huge Instagram user and I've been having a problem when snapping photos using Instagram.
Whenever I snap a picture, the photo will be cropped off 1/2 in on each sides thus ruining the composition. There are no issues on video though/
I'm currently on Omega v18 (stock rom based) and Im not sure if it's a ROM-specific problem or just issues of IG with the Note 2.
Can anyone else try this and see if after snapping a photo the final photo will get smaller or like zoomed in than whats showing in the viewfinder prior to snapping.
Thanks.
4.1 update doesny fix it.
Anyone kind enough to check? Im pretty sure most of you have Instagrams :/
No one has instagram to test this out?
No issues here, see.

Hi Chobie,
I have the same problem as you example. I took a pic of an apple, fit it into the whole pic and then when i snap, the end result is not what was seen before i snap. It sort of zoom in/cropped the photo such that you dont see the whole apple & the sides have been cut off. I'm also using Note 2 & i dont know when did this problem occurs. I searched all over the internet but it seems that no one is having that problem. My sister is using S4 but she doesnt have this problem.
Did you manage to fix it? I uninstall and install back the app, no help at all

Thanks. Nope still no fix for it. I even reverted back to stock ROM to see if it's a ROM problem but it produces the same problem.
I've reported bug to instagram's website so you can probably report it as well to escalate the problem.
Hi,
Yup. I emailed instagram. Hopefully they can advise..

Is that the exact composition and frame of the photo before you took it?

Ugh. That's weird. I wonder what's wrong...
Happening to me as well. The only solution I could find was to disable the option to "Use Instagram's advanced camera" under "Advanced features". This way it uses the phones camera and then asks you to crop the photo on your own.
I hope they fix it soon.

I have the same problem. Samsung note 4. Stock Android OS. Instagram and an app called "paper camera" both have this issue.
I have the same problem too. I take a pic & it comes out all zoomed. I emailed IG but still no response. Anyone know how to fix camera zoom bug? I have S5
I have the same problem. Picture is zoomed after a picture is taken. Very frustrating. Clearing app data repairs the issued for just a while. Reported a problem to Instagram via in app feature. No response. I'm using Sony Z5, Android 7.0
9 Aug: Updated to Android 7.1.1. The problem still exists in Instagram. Very dissapointed. What's interesting - problem does not exist with a front camera. Has anybody found a solution?
Hey
The same things happening to my phone (Smasung S6) and I came to Google hoping to find a solution. It hasn't always been like this but now it won't go back and it only happens to instagram :/

I'm having this problem with Samsung Note8. Contacted Instagram, but these guys are not responding. That's a shame because I used Instagram frequently in the past.
I've manually upgraded to the latest ROM, but for some reason, the "Crop-me-in" feature in the camera doesn't appear to be there?
I haven't found any posts on the interwebs about this and wondered if it was a carrier detected option (I'm on an NVNO) or if it just didn't ship/was pulled?
In the camera, from the demo's I saw, you click on the 4 small circles in the square and it should be an option there- but I only have 5 options and none of them are "Crop-me-in".
Any one else seeing this?
I was missing that feature too. I got it yesterday when camera app updated. It's fun to play with, though it's still a beta so it needs some polishing.

After multiple HTC app updates it suddenly appeared as "Crop me in Beta"-
BUT, after I take the picture, it doesn't seem to actually merge the images (just has the front facing pic in the corner of the back facing pic)... Pretty useless.

The HTC camera app in the play store does not appear in my phone. But if I click a link direct to the HTC camera app, it says its not compatible? Why is there an error? Should I update my gallery? I have not updated the HTC gallery because it removes the Zoe features built in . please help

Can anyone explain to me why these features shown on the front page of the Google app are not present on my phone, did everything uninstall reinstall join the beta program leave the beta yet still no features
My understanding is that it's server side. These features popped up on mine about 10 days ago. Probably something google is rolling out in stages.

Oh and thanks for the reply
No beta, not unlocked, not rooted, stock rom. I had read about these features about a month or so ago but I can't remember where. They made it sound like it was a server side rollout.

I was playing with XL2 in Verizon Store, trying to check out that portrait mode with one lense. You don't have to move camera, as before for pixel 1, but when picture is done I couldn't find menu to adjust amount of background blur. Why is that?

And what have you contributed to the xda community? Nothing.
As I said, ask Google because that's not a feature in the Google photo app. If you want to edit blur intensity get a Samsung or LG phone.
It used to be in the previous pixel, why removing it?
Hello guys!
Im gonna keep it short but basically Google has sent update for Camera 5.2 where the update has been.....
https://www.androidauthority.com/google-camera-5-2-pixel-nexus-phones-gets-new-features-846423/
Has anyone got the update?

Really? I just do the twist motion to switch. That's still available to do luckily for me.
They removed the grid button from the quick toggles but would've been nice if they let you customize it. A portrait mode quick toggle would save me a tap.

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure. I'm pretty confident that you can as its still an official verison.
Come to think about it I'm sure I've also updated an app manually like this and then updated it on its next release (I think I did this with android wear).
I noticed the "subscribe to pushbullet updates" on apk mirror so did that for the Google camera. That way can get the update a little faster

Sure. I did the same thing with the phone apk a while back when it was updated to 16.0. Sometimes it just takes google a little longer to catch up with their own apps ??
So they replaced a really good feature (double tap to zoom) with double tap to switch cameras? I hope it doesn't do that during a recording.
Edit: So I have camera version 5.2 and it's the same as before.
They have improved noise levels in the photos recently, I liked that
Edit Edit : There's tons of new settings yay
Thanks google

Oh, No problem, you can choose if you want to zoom or switch camera! Do not worry
I always download APK updates whenever I can just cause I'm impatient. Android Police is quick on getting Google updates post with APK links. And yes, you can get regular updates through the Google Play Store still.
I would actually have liked the double tap to switch cameras with the video recording as I see iPhone Instagram stories doing it. It's cool to film something then show your reaction.
