This is my first pixel device I have ever bought the unlocked Pixel 2 XL upgrading from my unlocked Samsung S8. I use my S8 mobile hotspot without any issues now that I bought my Pixel it says that I have to call customer service to sign up for it. It's there a way to bypass that verification. My S8 is unlocked and it doesn't ask to call customer service but my unlocked pixel does.
I am wondering the same thing. Got my phone from Google and on Verizon with no hotsp

Any solutions? I just received my first pixel, 2 XL unlocked. I haven't even opened the box yet. I'm on Verizon with the gUDP, grandfathered unlimited data plan.
Unlock the bootloader so you can root, and use the Tethering Enabler magisk mod.

Verizon never let anyone use hotspot for free. If you were able to on your old device then it was either rooted or the S8 was a special case. Whenever I wanted to use hotspot on my verizon devices I had to find a special provisioning patch for you device.
Tethering Mod didn't work for me. It unlocked the tether just fine but no Internet connections or any data transfer at all. I also modified the prop build file to enable tethering... same no Internet, anyone have any ideas here?

So i activated mobile hotspot by useing the skipsoft tool in development area. Unlock bootloader
Custom recovery
Root with magisk
Downloaded tether module in magisk download, installed, reboot
Works just fine ?

My man/woman (s) can't wait to try these .
A vpn subscription or connection, plus the app "vpn tether". Not sure if it will work for you but I seen someone on reddit say this method works now.

Yes, this works great!! I'm on Verizon old unlimited.
1. ) buildprop editor add this line
> net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
2.) Open adb shell.
3.) Type following command
>settings put global tether_dun_required 0
>reboot
Does this method still work? I'm planning on buying a Google unlocked version of the pixel 2 XL, and want to know if editing the build.prop or magisk method still work. Thanks. Sorry for bumping this topic.

Hello,
In different locations on the 'net', I read that the Verizon Google Pixel XL cannot be rooted because the bootloader is locked. Can someone clarify if this is true?
I just received a brand new Pixel XL from Verizon, but have not connected it to WiFi and have not yet activated my service and I want to know if I can root my Pixel XL with the following:
BL = 8996-012001-1611091517
Baseband = 8996-012511-1611190200
Console = DISABLED
Secure Boot = PRODUCTION
Device is LOCKED
Thanks in advance!

Hello... I would simply power it on without sim. Skipping the google setup and go to settings > about phone. If your Android version is below 7.1.1, ex: 7.1, you can try this:
http://theroot.ninja/depixel8.html
Some users reported that they have received new Verizon Pixel XL devices on 7.1.1 where they were able to toggle the "OEM unlock" in developer options (tap build number 7 times in about phone to see developer options in settings) and go in fastboot unlocking their bootloader directly with:
fastboot flashing unlock
Good luck... :good:
Shoot.... I removed the SIM (and didn't connect to WiFi), performed the very minimum set up so I could get into the settings > and unfortunately my version is 7.1.1.
I don't know if this had anything to do with it, but the phone was shipped directly from Verizon with the SIM card already installed (it is not activated because my old cell phone on Project Fi is still working), and I turned on my phone earlier today for 10 minutes or so and didn't touch anything. Hopefully it did not attempt any type of upgrade, etc during this time.

Unfortunately the 'OEM unlocking' option is grayed out.
Ya I think Verizon caught on finally and that's why warranty (Asurion) and newer ship outs are coming g with 7.1 .1. I got lucky and had ordered mine from local Verizon store and was shipped to my house. Turned on and saw was on 7.1 so I immediately ran the depixel8 software and now enjoy unlocked bootloader and rooted if I desire. But I am enjoying PN non rooted !!

Lucky, got mine at a Verizon corporate store and came with 7.1.1.
Ok, so it sounds like there is no current root solution on 7.1.1 - I think that is where my confusion was when researching this topic on the 'net'.
So I just bought a Verizon Pixel XL off ebay with the intention of using it on T-Mobile because I was under the impression that taking it to T-Mobile was no issue and would be no different than using a google store one on T-Mobile. Although I am reading some concerning threads about the bootloader issue. If this phone happens to have 7.11 will I be unable to flash the T-Mobile factory image onto it? Or is there really no benefit in doing this anyway? Do I and will I be able to flash at least the T-Mobile radio over to it?
Then if it is before 7.11 and I unlock the bootloader right away can I keep it unlocked even if I play around with images and stuff such as trying out the O beta? or do I have to avoid Factory images once its unlocked and only use custom roms?
Thanks in advanced!

Only thing that matters is if the origin of the phone is Verizon or Google.
If the origin is Google you can install the Google factory image and use it on anywhere, unlock the bootloader, root and have a grand old time.
If the origin is Verizon you are relegated to the Verizon image regardless of where you use the phone, no flashing for you.
Compare the build code of your phone to the build codes on google factory image website and you will know what you have.
good luck

Verizon model is fine for what the phone is.
You shouldn't have any issues using it on T-Mobile USA . Verizon phones are sim unlocked . The only thing with the Verizon version is that if it had the update where they don't let the bootloader unlock then you can't unlock it and root. Besides that you can use it on TMobile as a regular Google phone.

This is partially false, I'm using a Verizon pixel XL on TMO and when I dropped out of beta, Google rolled out the TMO branch to my phone.
If you can depixl8 it and unlock the bootloader, you can flash custom Roms or the factory images to your heart's desire with no issues. Just never relock the bootloader, since it won't be able to be unlocked again(if it truly is a Verizon pixel XL)

You can sideload updates to a locked device so OP could sideload a current ota from tmobile. It can in fact beneficial to run the tmobile software on tmo because of optimizations for network connectivity
If you haven't updated it yet and its version is older than last November, you should be able to unlock the bootloader. Once it's been updated to a newer version, it can't be unlocked.

I guess that'll be the big question. If the phone was only a display model since it was released. I wonder if the display models get the updates pushed automatically... I will find out tomorrow.
Well the phone came with 7.1.2 so no fun for me. Thanks for the info from everyone.
Very interesting, I stuck a T-mobile SIM in it and I can now switch on OEM unlocking. It was greyed out before I put the SIM in.

I have not I will this evening or tomorrow though. I was just under the impression that all Verizon Editions had that switch disabled no matter what SIM card went it. As I stated before this was a display model, I got it for next to nothing due to very minor screen burn from the demo mode, I can barely see it so i'm good with what I paid. So I wonder if display models weren't Verizon models? Or maybe this was a third party Verizon store and not corporate. Either way is there anyway to tell which one it is? The SKU on the back is G-2PW2100-021-B and it has build number N2G47E on it, which is not the verizon build I don't think.

Google points to that being a Verizon SKU. But with the build number being non-Verizon, you might be able to unlock it.

I asked two sellers, they didn't know if it was Verizon on Google phone, they are just selling as Unlocked GSM , I never bought Google phone so I'm very new to it, per my understanding Verizon phones wont able to have unlock bootloaders? and Google phones will do? also Google phones can work with Verizon and GSM phones without any issues or they are only good with GSM?

I literally just did this 2 months ago. Got a pixel xl and it was a verizon phone but I have Tmobile. The phone can be unlocked, it can be rooted, it can be rommed, yes it can! Mine came with 711 or 712 cant remember but whatever doesnt matter. Just follow the guide in the other thread by @Homeboy76, it's a GREAT read and tutorial. It will put you from stock nougat to stock pie, but afterwards you can go to nougat, oreo, or pie. I know because after I did it, i went to an custom rom, then to a custom oreo rom, back to stock pie, back to custom pie lol. I would put a link up to the thread but idk how to do hyperlinks lmao, i skipped that day of school.
Anyone have it? Anyone have any idea if it's the same version as Verizon? It's my understanding it's just the unlocked version. Open to flash any of the Qualcomm builds. But it runs Verizons network. Really just looking for any info anyone has on it.
Another thread about it got closed, but this is being posted in Q&A so this should not be closed.

i am working on trying to figure out which firmware can be flashed. and you need a unlock code for the sim lock
The Xfinity Mobile Samsung Note 8 (SM-N950U) is basically the same as the verizon branded phone. This means the bootloader is locked and will likely never be unlocked. This means you won't be able to install TWRP or load any of those custom roms
---------- Post added at 06:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:32 PM ----------
You should be able to root it using the SamFail method but unfortunately there are restrictions
For example Magisk not working and it will fail safety net check.
Anyone with Xfinity Mobile who might be curious about doing this, I have successfully obtained root using SAMFAIL method... Follow his instructions exactly as written! When the device restarts after the second part of this tutorial you might end up with a blue screen that restarts the phone and flashes blue over and over, what I did next was I downloaded this firmware http://updato.com/firmware-archive-s...3AFA163EE8F90B and flashed the Home CSC file alone using the normal version of Odin 3.12.7 that is included in his post (with the Comsy version that was used in the first two parts). My phone came with original firmware so just a heads up. After flashing Home CSC, phone booted normally and SuperSU worked. Make sure you give everyone in that post credit for the amazing work with bringing us an option for root in such a short amount of time! If you have any questions please let me know and I'll help you as best as I can.

Using xfinity note 8 with oreo full version want too downgrade back too nougate.
Hello everyone first thank you for reading and commenting on my post.
I have a xfinity mobile devicè that originally came with nougate 7.1.1 and I flashed it by sd card flash. I have a few bugs like 1. Security notification that keeps popping up all the time.
2. When watching you tube after a while the app get stuck and usually just have too restart and then works fine till the next time.
3. I cant send messages with pictures or videos thru stock messaging app from samsung. I can send text thru samsung message app. So I downloaded the Verizon message app and it works fine using that app because xfinity uses Verizon for carrier service LTE.
I am wondering first what is the exact correct firmware for xfinity mobile on note 8.?? Where can I get it from?
( I know the original firmware had a "j" in it) for nougate 7.1.1
If I cant fue the bugs on oreo 8.0 full version "please tell me how? Then...Next thing is I have oreo 8.0 with samsung experience 9.0 can I and how do I downgrade back to nougate correctly but I tryed and was unsuccessful. I tryed downloading a firmware off the internet and storing it and renaming it on sd card so I can flash it while in dfu mode. But it didnt work.
So bottom line is if I can just fix those bugs and stay on full version oreo 8.0 then please tell me how?
Otherwise please tell me how and where I can achieve downloading the exact firmware build for my phone and the samsung experience 8.0.? I need too know if its possible and where too get everything from and instructions how? Thank you all my XDA friends

Xfinity Boot Screen After Unlock
I have a Xfinity Note 8. I paid to have it unlocked so I could sell it easier. I have flashed many S8, S8+ but no Note 8 or Xfinity. Typically after an unlock, with a new SIM it would carrier flash after reboot. This one does not. I used my sons Verizon SIM no problem but it still had the Xfinity splash screen and apps. Could I resolve this through flashing with oden? I’m afraid to try since this is the first Xfinity phone I’ve come across. Any help or tips is appreciated!

You would have to reflash the Note 8 with the carrier unlocked firmware. The one you would buy from Samsung where there would be no carrier branding you would get the firmware from XDA Developers and they would provide guys in tutorials and how to flash the non carrier-branded firmware to the Note 8

Using Samfirm, what region would I enter? OR, If I download from SamMobile, should I just use the USA version. I see mine SM-N950USQ3BRA6 listed as (Unknown).
I would like the phone to carrier flash with each SIM so they buyer won't be intimidated. With the other phones if done this with, usually other S8, S8+, I haven't had to do it but twice for AT&T S8's. For some reason those in particular will sometimes not recognize the SIM even after unlocking and flashing through SamFirm and Oden has done the trick. I'm sort of a newb. I used to flash ROMS years ago but recently find myself buying and selling for profit. Thanks for your help!!
I'll try later and post my results.
I've read on here that 8.1 is locked I was trying dialer codes and ran across a app that showed oem-specific info/Settings disabled. How would one enable this hidden setting? Dialer codes aren't really working on my phone.

The ability to change APN settings so Verizon service won't work unless flashing 8.1 without the -w in fastboot.

I wonder if that is a Verizon only issue, I took the OTA since my device is locked, I have TMO, and I can change the apn, add new ones.

It seems to be a Verizon only issue, at least from the data I've found.
Is there any way to get wifi calling on att with an unlocked s9 from best buy? Flashing att firmware or would it be best to get the att model? Must have wifi calling for work reasons and I hate all the bloatware but might not have a choice.
at&t probably blocks it, if you don't get their version. I have an unlocked, but on T-Mobile, and it works.
I flashed the AT&T firmware on my unlocked S9 and wifi calling and video calling worked.
With the stock firmware on the unlocked S9 nether option was there
Can you point me in the direction of a download for the stock firmware for AT&T? I'm wanting to do the same as well, but feeling pretty clueless about where to obtain it. thanks!
Same here. It works for me on T-Mobile
If I flash the att firmware will I still get firmware updates?

if you flash the att firmware or buy it straight from att you will end up a device supporting the same capabilities. So it's down to your tech skills or budget.
Where can I find the latest att firmware? I did not see it on sammobile.
How to
Step 1 Go to this thread for Firmware (thanks @iBowToAndroid)
You will want to go to the link for the U firmware and find the folder with the AT&T userdata file (RB7) download the user data file and the full firmware.
Step 2 Go to this thread to get the modified version of Odin that recognizes the GS9 firmware files. (Thanks @mweinbach and Raymondf )
You will then flash the downloaded files from Step 1 in Odin, after flashing the firmware the phone will boot into recovery and you will need to wipe data and cache.
Thanks so much... that did actually help me... as a fairly tech savvy person who doesn't really get into this stuff much, the lingo I didn't know was leading me astray... I had come across that thread but didn't recognize it as anything that would help me. Thanks again! Onward to bricking my phone!

Thanks for the info. A follow-up question: is it possible to flash it back to the stock unlocked firmware? The reason is that I'll need to use foreign SIM card when I travel overseas.

I have unlocked version on TMobile and wifi calling works just fine.
Do you have to flash the att firmware to the unlocked version in order to get VoLTE? I don’t care about WiFi calling, just hd calling and being able to stay on lte when making a call, rather than have it drop to HSPA during the call.

Probably wont last. Unless att has an imei number from an wifi calling att phone on that account it will eventually go away.

I understand, but unless att has changed its policies in the last month, if u do not have an imei number on that account that is an att phone with wifi calling it will turn itself off as soon as your phone is interrogated by the network. Theres 100 threads on it , applies to unlocked s8, s7, etc...
Toggle is there because of firmware, not because it works.

That's the way it's supposed to work.
Any help/guidance for me??
I have tried a few times to use the March 2018 RB7 files with the ATT user data to get my phone to ATT stock - primarily for the Enhanced LTE (data and voice at the same time), as well as Wifi Calling. I can't get that version to load. I did get a more recent version to load (RK1) - and maybe that is the issue. Just wondering if there is a newer set of files and what specifically I should use (AP,BL... UserData) to get the phone fully set to AT&T. I now have the wifi calling option, just can't get it enabled. Any help is appreciated.

When you try to enable it do any of the AT&T Wifi calling configuration screens pop up?
