How to Turn Off Heads Up/Peeking notifications? - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Is there a way to turn off Peeking or Heads up notifications? I always found those annoying. I can't find a global setting for it in Oreo. I can't even find a setting for it on an app by app basis.
Thanks in advance

this app adds a quicksetting toggle for it. gotta use adb though to grant secure setting permission

Thanks for that.... so there is no way to do it without an app and ADB?

I plug my phone to my computer, run adb, type in:
adb shell settings put global heads_up_notifications_enabled 0
And no more heads up, ever.

Thanks a ton.... this made my day..
I just hate the Headsup/Peek notifications on Android... Google should allow Power Notifications control on Oreo like Nougat..

Maybe it is =0

What is heads up notifications?

I'm using the Oneplus 3T device, and I turn on and off peeking notifications for messages app.
Open Setting → Notifications → Messages → Tap Default → Importance → Set “High” instead of urgent and medium
You can use this feature on Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp and Gmail apps as per your preference. But make sure every app has a different setting.

Thanks for that but i can't get it to work on my S7 with 8.0.0
The phone is connected to adb but when i type the command and restart the phone, it's just the same.
Basically i'm just trying to get rid of the heads up for incoming calls. If a call comes in i want it show on the whole screen.
Anything i might be doing wrong??

Vibration strength?

Anyone aware of anyway either via root or 3rd party app on how to change the strength of a notification vibration?
Coming from a pebble which literally shook your wrist when it vibrated, the vibration on the SW3 just seems so weak!
Looking at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-watch/orig-development/rom-graphene-rom-preview-t2888758
he changes some sysfs values:
Code:
# increase vibration intensity
echo 50 > /sys/class/timed_output/vibrator/amp
echo 115 > /sys/class/timed_output/vibrator/driving_ms
I don't have my SW3 yet so can't try myself. Maybe root is required.
I agree completely! This thing is dead compared to the pebble! Would I run those commands from ADB? Would I just put the value I want on the end?

the number just behind echo is the value.
Note: changes you do this way don't survive a reboot.
Aww but thank you!
not what you ask for but.....
I went to settings > about > enabled developer options > dev options .> pressed on manufacture menu-launcher >Vibrator > enter duration> changed to 500 ms
I tested and it vibrated longer than usual but the settings didn't stick.
anyone?

Those settings are only to test if sensors are working. They are not normal settings and will not stick...

Im also interested !!!
I'd like a solution as well.
This would be great.
Take it there is no solution as yet, totally agree vibrate is so weak it's almost useless.
Light flow added vibration control.

You can also use "Vibration Notifier" it can add vibe for strenght you would and repeat one or more time 2s after the first original vibe.
+1 Light flow for me is the solution. Anyway, compared to the moto 360 this watch is an hammer drill!

this is dead already but i didnt like lightflow too much so ive been using "Feel the Wear" app for couple weeks now, and it works fine! made just for this ! so if you dont wanna bother paying or messing with your notifications and led, try this out ! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sk.martinflorek.wear.feelthewear&hl=en
Thanks!
old thread i can see, however i stumbled across it searching for the same thing, for me lightflow and feel the wear was not for me as you have to pay for both and are filled with too many extras that i dont actually want.
i found this one - free/easy to use and does the trick fine to change the vibration length which makes me feel the vibration and not miss notifications

How to disable fingerprint vibrate?

I know that do not exist this option in the current rom yet. But has an thirty app that can do this?
I just noticed that when the battery saver is on, the vibration of the fingerprint reader is off. I actually think it turns of vibration all together in battery saver mode.
However, I don't know of an app that takes care of this.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103628
Disable fingerprint vibration without root (Guide)
Get adb package
open cmd
type
adb devices
if it reply with device serial number you are ready for next step.
adb shell cmd appops set android VIBRATE ignore
done.

Disable left back gesture

I use the left swipe for menus a lot and was really hating the back gesture messing that up. Found https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/disable-androids-back-gesture-left-side-make-hamburger-menus-easier-open-0338679/ and worked perfectly. The below ADB code is what I used and assumes you have the Android SDK and ADB set up.
Code:
adb shell settings put secure back_gesture_inset_scale_left 0
You can adjust the sensitivity for each side in settings. This just turns it completely off?

Yes and it works perfectly on Pixel 5 too.
Setting lower sensitivity won't disable back gesture.

I don't think it turns out all the way, I've had it trigger in apps with no left menu. It's much less sensitive though and the menu will pop out first. I'm thinking of doing it in the right too because it's way too sensitive for the browser I use, which has a ton of gesture controls.
The sensitivity in settings did nothing for me so found this.

you should mention that others should try -1 or -2 if 0 does not work, 0 did not work for me but -2 seems to have disabled it
bramble with proton rom and kernel
I put -20 on both sides (to make sure it doesn't trigger in the cutout area in landscape mode) and use FNG instead. Works like a charm.
old thread, but this worked for disabling the right-back-gesture on Android 13/Pixel 6
adb shell settings put secure back_gesture_inset_scale_right 0
I use this command to use gesture from 3rd party application, but the original back gesture still working on my vivo x60 pro. Any thoughts please?

Question Can't seem to keep screen from coming on when picked up?

When I picked up my P6P the screen turns on which I don't want. I've changed these and it still comes on when I pick it up. What I would like is tap to check and the old standby press the power.
This doesn't seem possible right now? Or it's either so obvious or hidden that I can't see how to achieve this.
I have Lift to check phone turned off.
Tap to check phone turned off.
Don't turn screen on for new notifications
Don't show notifications on lockscreen.
Now Playing turned off.
All face tracking to keep screen on turned off.
But pick the phone up and the screen turns on with the time, battery percentage and the fingerprint symbol even with all the above turned off.

It's related to having fingerprint unlock set up. 2 ways around it that I know of:
1. Delete fingerprints and use another unlock method, or
2. Connect your phone to your computer and in adb shell run this command:
shell settings put secure doze_quick_pickup_gesture 0

Thank you for the ADB command - that is absolutely driving me nuts that it just randomly wants to turn the screen on if I bump it or move it.

20 kinds of thanks @Lughnasadh Not to get ranty, because it's funny as of now but this thing seriously wakes up and pops the display on if I even think about touching it. Because I have smart unlock on with my watch I invariably end up opening up some random menu or hitting manual lock and then have to pin it open.

Q: How to start Screensaver activity on rooted Firestick

I'm trying to start the screensaver service with a remote press using 'X edge Pro' on a rooted Firestick.
Can't find the activity that starts the screensaver?
Basically I want to hold down a button to start the screensaver.
Currently the only way I've found is to point to Aerial Dream and start the 'Test Activity'
If anyone knows a way I can do this your help would be greatly appreciated.
You can launch whatever screensaver you currently have active with this:
Code:
ADB shell input keyevent KEYCODE_SOFT_SLEEP
It's case sensitive

Amazing, thankyou.
Rather than using the ADB command, I found X Edge Pro has a 'inject key event'. I found the KEYCODE_SOFT_SLEEP there.
Thankyou for you swift reply. Really helped
