lost email address - About xda-developers.com

Hello,
It appears that I created my account either with an email address I didn't actually have or that I no longer have access to. I just got my new phone a few days ago and tried to log into my account but couldn't figure out my password and all of the email addresses I could think of didn't work for the password reset. I remembered that I was likely logged into the XDA app on my old phone (where I'm writing this message from) and would like some help in fully recovering my account. Thanks.

[Q] Gmail on Android phone

On my Incredible, I started a gmail account and now I receive gmail on my phone.
Now I want to use gmail on my desktop PC but I don't remember how I started it on my phone i.e. I can't remember my username, password or the email address I used to start gmail.
How how can I recall these facts to add my gmail account to my desktop?
Thanks

Just go to settings>accounts & sync, you'll be able to see your username under gmail, then you can just go to the gmail site and recover your password.

Thank you for the reply. I did what you said and the user name was my gmail address, and they asked for things I couldn't supply, like, who I sent gmail to, when did I open the account, etc.
Apparently I don't really have an account - just an email address. Does that make sense?

If your phone is receiving email you have a GMail account. If you don't recall what information you put in when you originally started the account there's probably not much more that can be done.
Did you find this phone or something?

VERY FUNNY.
I have always had a lot of respect for this forum, but it is open to everybody and everything.
I started up my Gmail and got rebuffed when I tried to buy an apk and it required me to check-out at the Google store. I was told I didn't have a Google account so I wasn't able to buy the apk, but I am still able to send and receive Gmail. Now I want to be able to receive Gmail on my desktop, but I don't have the information to be able to complete that so that's why I asked for help.
Thanks.

You can send and recieve mail because you have a gmail account. You can't buy anything at the store because you don't have a matching account in Google Checkout which you would have had to set up separately.
Based on the information you're providing - which I'll agree with the others comes off as either sketchy or aternatively completely computer clueless that's my best guess.
I rooted a guy that I work with phone and he didn't know his gmail password. He didn't use gmail, just set up the account to use the market and backup contacts.....bit he also was able to figure out when he opened the account because it was the same day he bought the phone.

Thanks for the comments.
I just got off Google's site and I went through the steps to recover my username and recover my password and even though the recovery site accepts my username and my gmail address, it sends me a message that it's database has no reference to a password for either one.
I tried a site that was supposed to be the tech site to help me and after I asked my question, they asked me how much would I be willing to pay for the answer and suggested 37 dollars.
Well, I guess you know, I went no further.
My problem is, why does google recognize my gmail address, but has no reference to a password I would have to have to start the gmail account? ? ?
I know it's my fault I don't remember what I did to create the account, but why is there no record???
Google can't, or won't let me back in without some things I don't recall, but they seem to have no mechanism to let me correct my situation without just cancelling the account and creating a new one.
Thanks again for the dialog.
Are you serious? I can't believe that post (the one before this one)....its kinda making me very angry on how ridiculous this is lol.

[Q] Media Hub Account Recovery?

The problem:
Attempting to sign into my Samsung Media Hub account tells me my username or password is incorrect.
Using the "Forgotten password?" feature tells me, "Success! Your password has been sent to your email address.", but I never receive anything in my email.
Things I've tried:
Checked my spam folders (of course).
Tried the only other email address I would have used.
Note: When trying my other email and the "Forgotten password?" feature, it fails, telling me that the email address could not be found (or something). So I know the email address I'm using is the right one, it just isn't actually sending me my password.Tried every other password I would have used. (Besides the one I'm 90% sure is correct.)
Note: Even tried intentionally mistyping passwords a few different ways.I tried using another Epic that's still a virgin, just in case it was root / rom related.
Note: Tried the "Forgotten password?" feature from this phone as well, still no email received.Tried posting a Question in the Samsung support Q&A section, but I guess it hasn't been authorized yet, because I can't find my question anywhere.
(Maybe I will get my answer there eventually.)
Tried searching google for any kind of info about Media Hub account recovery. Results are nothing but links to old promo info about it being released.
Tried uninstalling and re-installing the Media Hub app (from the market), didn't make a difference.
And now posting here for help.
Other notes:
I used a comcast.net email address if that makes any difference.
So my question is...
Has anyone had any trouble logging into their Media Hub account?
Has anyone ever successfully used the "Forgotten password?" feature?
Does anyone know of anywhere I could try to log into my Media Hub account online (via PC)?
Anyone know of an email address I could contact to resolve this?
I suppose this isn't really that big of a deal since my only goal in this is to be able to use up the rest of my promotional $50.00 they gave me, but it still bothers me.
Thankx in advance for any help.
=]
Edit:
How about someone testing the "Forgotten password" feature for me? Does it send you an email?
Bump for 1st post edit.
OK so I did some more testing.
A new account with a gmail address will send out an email no problem.
So it seems that this may be a comcast related issue. I'll try to contact them to see what (if anything) they can do about it.
Is there no one that has had any trouble with this? Or are you all just not using the Media Hub?
[bump]

[Q] Forgot Gmail Address

So, I know someone that just bought an Epic, used to have a Hero. He didn't know his gmail address when he went in to buy the Epic yesterday, and so the guy at the Sprint store set him up with a new gmail address. Now of course he can't access any of his sync backups or purchased apps. I told him I thought there was a way to figure out the gmail acct attached to the phone, but I wasn't sure how, so I thought I'd ask you guys.
I tried looking in getprop with connectbot, but that only shows the @sprintpcs email address. I can't think of another way off the top of my head that it would work. Apparently the gmail address is no longer listed in a conspicuous location on the phone, such as under settings/accounts and sync/manage accounts. Wouldn't this be able to be discovered on the phone through some method? Maybe the dialer codes, such as ##3282# (though I know that one wouldn't do the job)?

You mean in the gmail app? As far as I'm aware it's not listed in there currently, but I will double-check with him again. He said the Sprint guy looked for the gmail address on the phone and couldn't find it, but I suppose that doesn't really mean much, since Sprint sales tech knowledge tends to be a hit and miss luck of the draw kind of thing. I was hoping there was another way I could find it buried in code or whatnot.
Maybe there's a data file for the Market that I could open in xml and spot the associated gmail address?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Hmmm.
If I go to Menu -> Settings -> Accounts and sync I see my account listed under "Manage accounts".
I believe there should be something similar on the Hero. I just checked a Droid 2 and I had to look under "Accounts" instead of "Accounts and sync".
If what you are saying is that your friend can't remember the gmail address that he had on his Hero...Try going to the gmail login page on a computer..click the "can't access my account link". The next page it takes you to will have a "Forgot my Username" link.... Have your friend try putting in his primary email account that he may have associated it with when creating the first gmail account. They will then email all gmail usernames associated with that email address.
Put the hero on WiFi and have him email his new address from it.
Recover your gmail account via your phone number.
Send an email from your phone?
Sorry. I forgot getting an email address from your phone was rocket science.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll forward them on to the person with the issues.

Lost all apps and contacts

Short story: I need to know if there is a way to find the transaction id number from the apps that i've purchased in play store. I do have root.
Long Story: I setup my Google login using the main email i was using at that time. That email address happened to be provided to me by my ISP. Last month i switched my ISP to another ISP and lost access to the original email address that i set up with my Google account since that service was cancelled effectively today. Today i also logged into Google and clicked the "change" link next to my primary email address under accounts. I was sent a verification email to the "new" email address that i put in. I followed the instruction in the email which had me click a link verifying my "new" address. I now have no apps nor contacts linked to my Google login when i login. I can no longer use my previous login either. I've contacted GooglePlay help and have started a complaint. They say there is no record of my original email address or my purchases (100's of $$$). For a company to forfeit all my purchases because i changed my email and furthermore never warn me is ridiculous.
This should be a lesson that you should use gmail instead of An isp's email.
Please press Thanks.THANK YOU

yea exactly I've never once used an isp provided email address cause its just a bad idea. Lesson learned the hard way I guess

I understand that it was a bad idea but the option to switch emails associated with the account is still there. Soo even if it wasn't an isp email it still would have done the same thing because it was the action of updating the email not the actuals isps fault.
Salt has been poured into the wounds already. Does anybody have any constructive advise on how to get or if there actually is any transaction record for paid apps stored on my phone?

E-mail Address Change

I tried to update my e-mail address some days ago, from my old domain to my one, but couldn't get your Web site to send me an activation e-mail to verify the new e-mail address for the life of me. I'd submitted the contact form with all information requesting manual assistance/intervention to facilitate the re-activation/verification of my account. However, no reply has been received.
As such, I was forced to update my e-mail address back to my old domain and received the verification e-mail there (which, by the way, forwards to my new address/domain). There was a bit of a delay from the time that I submitted the e-mail address and when I received the e-mail, but at least, it eventually arrived.
Can somebody please offer some assistance in getting my new e-mail address associated with my account and activated? I have no issue receiving mail from anywhere else at my new address, and yes, I checked the junk/SPAM folder for it.

To change the email in your xda account, just login to xda, then navigate to "Control Panel" (at the top - right, under your "Welcome, ..." your xda-name).
Then navigate to "Your Profile" > "Edit Your Details" > "EMAIL & PASSWORD" click on the bttuon "Edit EMAIL & PASSWORD".
Alternatively you can navigate to "SETTINGS & OPTIONS" > "Edit EMail & Password".
You should also check your general options under "SETTINGS & OPTIONS" > "Edit Options" > "Messageing & Notification".

I have changed your email address, and sent you a test email. You do not need to activate the address, but please ensure you can receive emails, or you'll lose features like password reset, and subscriptions.

Thanks for that. I'll check my e-mail later when I get a chance.
It's weird though as XDA has been the only place that I'd not received e-mail from directly. All other activation e-mails were delivered almost instantly. That, and I heavily depend upon e-mail for my business. My clients have never reported any issues either.
With that said, my old domain forwards to my new one. And, I know that e-mails from XDA to it are forwarded on to my new address without issue.
Perhaps, if you have an administrator who could check your mail server at some point when they have a chance for any frozen mail to the new address or any other failures. Offhand, at the moment, I'm not sure as to why there are issues with XDA only.

I'll ask him to check the outgoing mail logs, but AFAIK our servers are set up correctly (else I think more than one person would have issues! )

I'd meant to reply here a few days ago, but have been busy with work. However, I'm now receiving e-mails from XDA to my new domain. Please thank whoever did whatever to fix the issue.
