I don't know if it's just my unit or there is an inherent problem with the pixel XL 2. It cannot seem to register my location accurately even with high accuracy on. Directions has been useless for me over the last few days. Anybody else have this issue?

i started a RMA this morning after going thru support trying all their troubleshooting steps with no luck.. GPS can lock at times.. but seems to not hold too well..
the reliability of it is very reminiscent of the early batch of Nexus 5 phones.. which were also LG built.... goodness gracious.. history is repeating itself again..
I'm guessing it's your phones. Mine holds lock perfectly. Used navigation for almost 8 hours over the weekend. Never lost connection once.

Actually, it just started working correctly when I got home to MN from NY, so I happy now...
Op. Have you tried 8.1 dev?
The question is what settings do you have on? i usually have wifi and gps on since wifi can help with locking into your location at times.
Have you tried making sure wifi is on as well?
I have this exact same issue.
I find if you toggle the GPS off and back on, it immediately starts working again, only to stop working in another 1-2 navigation sessions.

I've noticed the same thing - toggling location services off and on fixes the issue when it happens, which makes me suspect it's a software issue.
I use my GPS A LOT between navigation and playing pokemon go, and the issue has only happened 3 times over the last 1 1/2 weeks. I imagine a lot of people wouldn't notice the issue if they don't use GPS too often, as for the most part, it works perfectly.

Yeah. I do a lot of on demand delivery, so I'm using my GPS and navigation ALL day long.
Somewhat off-topic, but for those of you who are using GPS and maps all day long, is there any way to get the screen to turn off between turns? I am finding that my battery is draining a lot faster than usual compared to previous phones.
I wouldn't make such a big deal about it, if it didn't take 4 hours for this thing to charge...

Same here. On demand delivery and moonlight as a driver.
My Pixel 1 didn't have this issue.
I noticed that GPS would not work 3/10 times when I use Google maps. Resetting the map app wouldn't work at all.
I'll try toggling "location" on and off the next time I noticed GPS not working.
Aside: I experienced screen burn in with the Pixel 1. Some I use maps often, the navigation bar would always be up. Google should hide the navigation bar. I guess I'll try immersive mode to lessen the chance of screen burn in.

I remember there used to be a setting that maps would put the phone asleep and then the screen on when a your approaching a turn.
I guess they removed that feature. I don't see it anymore.
Just had these issues again. My GPS keeps showing me that i'm facing in the wrong direction, often times by a 90 or 180 degree angle. So if it tells me to turn right on the map, how do i know where to turn if it shows i'm facing the wrong direction? Restarted, no difference.

I haven't tried the 8.1 Dev update yet, but I just got the November 2017 update with some fixes and screen setting changes and it did NOT fix this issue for me.
I second your compass need calibration. Has maps asked you to calibrate? My GPS was off today on maps, it asked me to calibrate and that fixed the issue.
same issues
I'm having the same problems with my Pixel 2 XL, and it is shown clearly with the GPS Status app - at times my GPS signal will toggle on and off randomly, with no reliability whatsoever. Other times it simply refuses to initialize. I haven't tried turning location services on and off yet, but I did get a warranty replacement phone from Verizon, and it had the same issue. I opted to return the replacement phone, since there was no fix.
I've got video of the failure, but I can't seem to post it as I'm too new to the forum.

I had this yesterday, it was an exact 180 degrees off (opposite direction). Recalibration couldn't fix it.
Did anyone do an RMA yet? Did it resolve the issue.
I thought the November update would fix it, but it hasn't.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled maps and I still have the issue. I would see my location being tracked on Google maps as I'm driving but Google maps wouldn't provide me turn by turn directions. It'll just be a dot instead of the arrow.
The only way to get it to work is by toggling location off and on.
Pixel 2 XL GPS problem - possible fix.
Hi
I've been having the same problem, my phone would not find the GPS satellites. I found that if I set location services to device only the GPS was not picking up any satellites. I turned location services off, restarted the phone and turned location service on, opened the GPS satellite app I have and the satellites appeared. This might be worth a try. I can't report that this solves the problem long term but it's been working for a few minutes which is better than before!!

Could we use this GPS fix for our phone? It has really good reviews but I just wanna be careful about flashing stuff :/

I honestly didnt even realise that the epic touch had a GPS problem going on. Mine always locks in less than 10 seconds and says accurate within 6-2m. It usually says 2m but on occasion 4 or 6. what are the symtoms of bad gps? I know it will either not lock on quickly or it wont the correct location. But what tecknically is a slow GPS lock on time to within 6m? Like 30 seconds to a minute? And what is considered not being accurate? Like within 15-30m? Im oretty curious. Maybe my 5-10 second lock on time and 2-6m accuracy is considered a GPS malfunction? I just never use it so i cant really know what is considered good or bad. I know mine uodated my position every half second to tge longest taking a full second when i used the car navigation app after putting in my desired address. Please e, plain

GPS should lock outside in a few seconds, it should lock or almost lock indoors within a minute, and it should definitely follow you while driving so that google maps navigation works.
if it is not doing that, take your phone to sprint and get a new one. my GPS was fine when i first got the phone, then a month later it started doing what people complain about, slow lock or no lock, and not following when moving. i complained to sprint twice, paid $35 and got a new phone and now GPS works fine.
the gps tool kit, flashing drivers from the wrong phone, and editing files never gave me a permanent fix. go exchange your phone.

Speculative on indoors.... Multiple factors to account for to get an accurate and true lock...
Well I've flashed it and it actually works in my experience. I've let me phone sleep for hours and it has been an improvement over previous fixes.
Still intermittent gps though.
How is everyone going about getting a replacement E4GT? I bought mine on launch day if that changes anything.
Is this something I can do over chat?
For those of you with GPS "problems"...try the following fix next time you have issues. Not sure what causes it, but anytime my GPS starts to suck I do the following and it fixes it instantly.
Menu->Settings>Applications>Manage Apps>
Click on the "All" tab
Click on "Maps" -> Clear cache
Back to list of programs
Click on "Network Location" -> Clear cache
Exit back to home and all should work much fast....at least it does for me
Let me know if this works for you guys...
I am not sure if it is a hardware problem or software but I rooted my phone within the first 24 hours of owning it. I run Calkulins ROM V2.6 [EL13 Kernel] and EL13 modem.
I have no problem locking indoor/outdoor fairly quickly. I did notice the indoor accuracy is slightly less accurate that the Evo 4g I had, but when it comes to locking time, and outdoor accuracy or moving "target" accuracy/lock I have ZERO complaints as of now **knock on wood**

It seems like we are almost close to see the public ICS version. FC07 is also one of the best ROM that we've seen so far and many issues from the previous version are already fixed on FC07.
But, I still see many peoples are complaining about the issues on FC07 from here and there. So, it would be great if we can see all real or possible issues in one place. This is the reason why I'm starting this thread.
Because I started, I want to add one :
Occasionally, GPS lock notification is not disappeared even the GPS turned off and there's no app using it.
Story - After flashing FC07 from FC06, I was checking individual apps and opened Go Weather app. Go Weather app asked be to enable My Location, so I did. Go Weather asked me 'GPS module is diabled. do you want to go to GPS settings?', so I turned on GPS and came back to Go Weather. It started searching and locked the GPS. After that, GPS notification always showed even I closed the App.
Just like happened in FC06, after the reboot, I do not see the same problem any more. Fortunately, I kept the screenshot of it.
[Update]
Now my FC07 ROM works much better than any of previous ROMs - sreenshots available in this post and post #50.
First, how stupid I was!
Late last night, I disabled the Battery saver script - Juice defender - and after that my Stock (rooted) FC07 ROM started working flawlessly. Even the battery life is showing great. After unplugged, it only used 10% for two hours.
Only one problem that I saw was GPS lock notification. It was there even I turned off everything. As we mentioned many times, only the workaround for this is just rebooting the phone.
Since last night, I do not see any apps FC'd. GPS working great, my wifi status is always updated even after the sleep.
So, if you see some weird issue on your ICS Rom, make sure you test your phone with any battery saver application. What I did during last night was, disabled Juice Defender and disabled some startups which I really don't need. One more thing I did was, configured CPU thru System Tuner Pro to use the ondemand govener. That's it and I'm happy with this FC07 ROM.
(Before this change, I also made the GPS tuneup on post #47, it's still effective on my phone and working great)
Right now, my phone stays cool without any issues.
(ps I updated Google map in this morning. I think this updated app is much better than previous version)
[Update]
I hope this would be the last update before I jump into coming FC13.
This afternoon, after a sleep mode, wifi did not show the signal bar again. But at this time, just turning off and on worked. Wifi signal came back to normal (don't need to reboot).
* Adding two more screenshots showing excellent battery life on FC07*

The gps disconnects frequently. It does connect fast but cannot hold a signal and when it does lose signal you have to reset the phone to be able to reconnect again. Also they have not fixed the issues with the media scanner. It still messes up the camera app a work around to open a 3rd party camera app and restart the phone this fixes this issue.

The gps lock notification does disappear with the EL29 modem. So maybe the problem is with the modem and not the Rom. Also Copilot 9 works with the EL29 modem and this Rom with no problems because the gps lock notification disappears when it is not in use.

Had GPS on for awhile when I ran FC07 (with the modem) never had the icon stay when I turned it off it went away like it should. Some people are having the issue however so not really sure it's with the modem.
I agree with GPS sticking around even after closing sometimes, which drains battery and warms the phone.
Other then GPS issues this has been a solid phone made better with the ICS roms

Has anyone gone in and taken a look at the build.prop "settings" for wifi?
Sometimes it happens that the wifi.suppplicant_scan_interval on roms based on these stock leaks we get is set as high as like 240..THAT is one thing that could definitely be lowered to like 90, and the lock would be much faster...
(I can't check it myself right now, because my ET4G is in transit due to a hard-brick replacement.)
It's definitely something someone might wanna take a look at.)

Mine shows 15 and I never touched this option. So, I believe it would be the stock default.
For me, the main thing that has been fixed is stability...but then again the leaks are coming way to fast to truly test stability (aka running for over a week). My two biggest gripes with the ics leaked roms hasn't been fixed since the early leaks...notification sounds sometimes still disappearing, and the gps bug still exists (albeit less frequently).

15?
I can't say I've ever seen that value placed so low in ANY rom on any phone....90 is usually the go-to 'custom' setting most "chefs" will use...15 doesn't seem like it would give the wifi even enough time to establish a connection before it went in to re-scan mode.
Hm.

15 is the same on the GB rooms too.

LOL. Mine literally just got a lock on me (and on the correct side of the house) in about 4 seconds.
Well, most of this thread has been about GPS, but I'll throw my hat into the ring with something different.
I still can't get Bluetooth to pair with my Sony car stereo, and while I can pair with my Infinity car system, trying to play any audio causes Bluetooth to force close. It works fine in both cars on the GB ROM so this is certainly a ICS build issue. Although not necessarily only on FC07. It hasn't worked on any of the builds.

I've read just about every post in this forum that even mentions GPS trying to find a solution, but no luck, so I'm asking outright in case I missed something or someone has the answer and hasn't contributed it yet.
My One X has horrible GPS.
I'm not talking about how long it takes to find satellites, it does that quickly enough. What I'm talking about is using an app like My Tracks, Endomondo, Run Keeper, etc to record a track. If I sit the phone perfectly still and let one run, the position and track wander all over the map like a drunken sailor looking for a good time. If I actually move in a straight line, the position shows me blocks away from where I really am. If I try to use a navigation app, the directions are meaningless because the phone thinks I'm as much as 1/2 mile away from my actual position. (I should post a video of that, it's hilarious how bad the directions are.)
Please don't respond if the only problem you've had with GPS is that it took too long to find satellites and downloading someone's aGPS fix app or tweak solved your problem. I've tried all that, multiple times.
I suspect it's just bad hardware, maybe bad antenna connection or something similar, and I'm going to need to replace the phone, but before i go through the hassle of trying to get HTC to replace this dev unlocked phone, I want to make sure there's not a software fix possible. I'm past Expansys' 14 day return window, so HTC is my only option, or possibly my American Express warranty service.
Any thoughts?
The pic is a screen capture of the phone sitting in my parked car in an uncovered parking lot for about 10 minutes. Note how much it wanders around.
Well, no replies, so I guess that means a big NO to any one actually finding a software fix to this particular problem.
For what it's worth, I installed CM9 in the phone and the GPS is still unable to hold an accurate location, so I'm sure it's a hardware issue at this point.
That's a real pisser, since they told me the turn around time on fixing my phone will be 3-4 weeks at the HTC Warranty Repair center in Houston, TX.

I hate to say it, but it must be your unit.
I use GPS navigation very frequently (SoCal, USA) - and coming from a flawless GPS on SGSII, I have to say that HOX GPS is even better. It's more precise - it can even correctly show which side of the road I'm on. Also, driving past intersections is spot-on, which shows how on-the-spot it is.
Did you install any cases, or keep it somewhere where antenna signal may get blocked?

I didn't want to believe it, but I concur it's got to be a hardware issue. No case in it, nothing blocking the antenna. I have same issues even laying it on a patio table out in the open.
I'm also in SoCal...San Fernando valley and the west side of Los Angeles. The one time I tried to use the GPS for navigation it was like getting affections from the three stooges.

Mine does exactly the same. Calibrating the compass an turning wifi off while using gps solves it for me. Gsp is spot on whe wifi turned off... turn it on while navigating and it wonders off road....
I had the same problem, I downloaded GPS Test Plus from the Market, went into settings, selected Clear AGPS and then selected Update AGPS - seems to have been tons better since I did that.
Found this via an Internet search so Kudos to those who discovered it although I apologise I can't remember where I found it!

Just turn it off in the location. As the breugiek above me suggested.
Thanks for the responses.
As stated in the original post, this is not an aGPS issue. I've tried many aGPS type fixes..Faster fix app, crypted fix and a few others.
I didn't mention it, but I've already tried turning of wifi; it makes no difference.
I suspect bad hardware, specifically something wrong with the antenna.

GPS now working fairly well on this phone. It's not perfect, and requires WiFi off, but other than some initial wandering at startup I'm getting accurate tracks on it.
The fix was to install ARHD 7.0. No idea what changed from earlier versions but it works well enough to put up with until I can get a shorter repair time quote from the warranty center.

My volume wheel only works for the first 15 minutes or so then and then it stops working until I reboot the unit.
Any idea ? Software or hardware fix ?
A few have the same issues. Myself included. For me it was software related. Out of interest what navigation do you use.

I agree, since a software reboot fixes it I'm guessing it a software. Did you find a fix ?
I'm using Waze
Waze was my culprit. Try an alternative as an experiment.

Unfortunately, Waze is the reason why I bought the head unit. Although I'll try to see if that's the problem and if so ask Waze if they can fix it
Thanks
Some others have went back to an older version of Waze. The last one before the change in material design.
Some others with same problem have discounted Waze so it's a bit of a lottery.

Just noticed I have the same problem as well (volume knob stops working after a few minutes, reboot fixes it for a bit, repeat). I don't know when it started as I've always just used the steering wheel controls for volume.
Kicker is that I don't use Waze nor have it installed.
Using latest (Apr 23 2016 RK3066 800x400, latest JY MCU) Malaysk ROM, basic JY headunit.
@gk66 - since you last wrote your post, have you had the problem occur again despite using the older version of Waze?
I don't use an older version. Ditched Waze completely. Use Google maps. Problem hasn't resurfaced yet.

Ah, I should learn to read. Thanks for the info though!
I haven't done extensive testing but Waze seems to be the culprit in my case too.
Muting waze also works. I've set it to "alert only" and it's much better but still stops from time to time.
When Waze talks it lower or mute media volume, my guess is that Waze does it wrong or uses an old API, I've had problem even on my phone where media volume would stay low or stop altogether.
I'll make a bug report and hopefully they can fix it

Thanks for that. Glad you've found the culprit.

Waze is not the only cause, also this happens with pc radio with the latest malaysk firmware for rk3188
Nobody said it was the only culprit. Why not start a thread to identify all the culprits

I'm having the same issue. Radio works fine until I launch waze, within ten minutes the knobs don't work anymore.
Since everybody is having sporadic issues, I'm actually testing out if the audio mixing you can set in Settings->GPS has anything to do with it. I always had it set to mixing, and I now put it to switch. Tomorrow I'll know more after a round trip to work.
No waze here, yet I have the same issue. Happens out of the blue, even when just running the original radio apk and no navigation at all. The SWC keeps working. Functionality returns after a reboot or a jump to the hardware settings. As the SWC always functions I don't mind TOO much but it a bit sloppy.
Tried changing the GPS settings today. Whatever I did, nothing helped, not even putting a random app that doesn't produce sound as my navigation app.
Which MCU do you all have? Mine is JY/Joyous...
Waze is not the culprit, it just happens more often when using it. Bluetooth calls (interrupting your current audio) often break it. Other apps switching audio break it too.
It is most likely some bug in the firmware related to switching the audio input.
There is no solution found yet.

Mine is set to Mixing 5. I haven't tried to switch yet.

KLD2, RK3188 SD. Came with KLD2 v2.77 firmware, now running v2.81. Both have the issue. I haven't tried flashing older firmware
I tried using tomtom as my main GPS application, same issue, so it's definitely not Waze specific. Friday I'll drive without using any GPS app and see if it still fails.
Next time as soon as I notice it failed, I'll check system log for any errors or exceptions, perhaps something stands out.
I do know that the turning of the knobs is logged in the log even after they failed and don't change volume. One of the xposed modules that shows the buttons pressed and such does not recognize turning of the knobs after they have failed...

Hmmm. The system log still gets the volume knobs turning but not the app? That could mean the firmware is ok and the bug is somewhere in the Android audio?

Yeah that's why I started playing around the GPS settings...
Any idea which app/service is responsible for handling the volume knobs?
I'm wondering if others are having this issue? With various apps (Pokemon Go, Google Maps) I keep losing GPS signal. Seems to find it no problem when first starting it but will soon start losing it. Pokemon Go reconnects pretty fast but Google Maps is much slower. I'm wondering if this is a hardware or software issue. I was on stock for a while and last week switched to OOS Lite (which is still stock based) and I'm I'm still having this issue. Makes using the phone for navigation about impossible. Hoping someone can help me.
I don't want to lose camera quality but I'm thinking about trying a new OOS based ROM and see if that fixes the issue.
What it shows on Google Maps.
Google turned up several threads about this problem. OnePlus has stated it may be hardware related and only impacts some of the OP3. The latest ROM from OP seems to have more problems than earlier ones. It is supposed to get fixed in some future update but no info supplied regarding the where/when.

Thanks. Well I've been in contact with OnePlus and they want to do the thing where a tech will remotely access my phone and wipe it. I doubt it will help but I'll let them. I'm wondering if it may be a software issue and I'll need a replacement. I'm not looking forward to that process. I've never done it before but heard it is a nightmare. Plus I cannot go without a phone due to work.
Well just flashed latest version of Cyanogen Mod and Still Seem to have the same issue. Seems to be hardware then. Ugh. Oneplus wants to do a remote thing, but soonest appointment is a week away.
Did you resolved the GPS problem with OnePlus Support. Is it hardware or a software problem? I have the same problem with my OnePlus3
I have those GPS problems as well. I opened and replacement RMA. Let's see... maybe my phone is broken. I tried the official OOS, the community build of OOS and cyanogenmod so far and there wasn't a difference in GPS performance. All poor. I guess everybody how has those issues might have a defect in the device
Same issue here, completely stock. Constantly looses gps signal then reconnects...........very annoying.
Any updates here?
I guess my OP3 is not up for taking on runs or bike rides like any normal modern smart phone should be. What good is GPS tracking of your outing when it loses the signal constantly, sometime for as much as several minutes? Absolutely infuriating. Updates please, and thanks in advance.

for me "gps signal lost" only seems to happen if the screen is off while navigating (not sure if removing google maps/whatever gps app from battery optimization has helped)
google maps seems to navigate continuously if the screen is kept on, although accuracy seems worse than prior phones (i.e. unable to tell if you're on the feeder/frontage or highway)

I am experiencing better GPS performance by disabling the "Doze Mode" in the Developer Options (OxygenOS 3.2.7 and everything stock).
I hope it will help

Doze keeps apps from draining battery while not in use.
However I did not notice a big difference.

Yes, but as I said I did not notice an excessive battery consumption: it maybe depends on the apps you have installed in your phone.
I suggest you try. Let us know if your GPS works better than before.
I have the same issue. Stock Rom 3.2.7. Any news from the support?
Same issue. I thought it was because I had too many apps, so I wiped. The GPS keeps losing its signal.

Short of a rma, have you all tried the app 'gps locker'? It holds lock through a persistent notification. It worked well on my note 3 with gps issues.
Quick work around is to download gps test app from play store,
Run it, wait till you get lock,
Once you get lock, close the app but dont kill it,
Now open your other app that need constant gps (maps, waze, pokemon, uber, you name it) and use it,
GPS will run well this way,
You wont lose GPS signal, except when you are under some kind of roof
