Aby Lad has an unfortunate Habit of not specifying whether Camera2API is needed for the ports he makes. I enabled it on Stock Rom, can disable it at any time, the app works perfect for me. Chances are its not working for you as it needs camera2api

Most custom ROMs on the G4 plus don't have camera2api built in, if it fails set back what you changed to 1 to 0. Then reboot

Why would you want that? The Moto G4 Plus has a omnivision OV16860, which is a 16MP sensor. So even if you could select 50MP, the image would only be interpolated ("resized"/"upscaled") and thus the quality would be the same or worse.
The photo resolution is not software limited like the video resolution (the sensor would be capable of [email protected], [email protected], [email protected])

Working on Flyme 6.

Would there be a way to possibly enable these options? It would be awesome to be able to shoot 4k and have that high of framerates.

It is theoretically possible (from hardware side) to get [email protected], that's the maximum the Snapdragon 617 can handle. But it would require modifying the camera HAL, which is AFAIK nearly impossible.

Oh ok, so it's basically just the processor is not capable of handling those other resolutions. That makes sense. What exactly is the "camera HAL", I've never heard of this term before.

"HAL" stands for Hardware Abstraction Layer and basically is used to connect the high-level API's to the driver and hardware.
Most OEMs have the Camera HAL closed source, as AFAIK they don't have permission to share the code (Unless they own the camera, like in sony's case). So it being closed source is makes it terribly hard and time-consuming to edit or create a custom camera HAL.
You can learn a whole lot more here: https://www.xda-developers.com/came...opers-make-hardware-work-without-source-code/

How to Copy Google Pixel Camera algorithm & Software into Xiaomi mi 5s?

Is it possible to copy the algorithm of Google pixel camera and install it in Xiaomi mi 5s? Because both have exactly same sensors. As I have seen the reviews of Xiaomi mi 5s, there is a room for improvement in the software. Specially night shots need improvement. So is there any way to copy pixel's algorithm and software into mi 5s?
At this point? Probably not.
In the future? Who knows, I hope so too...
We might (or might not) need to copy some libraries from pixel's system image, and probably must use the included google camera (which requires android 7.0 for now...)

Not possible because of so many things...
- There's likely no drivers for IMX378 included in the kernel/system by xiaomi for Mi5s Plus
- You must have to somehow find dual IMX378 module with the same pin configuration as the original one for it to even turn on (won't work if there's no driver for it though...)

It would be redundant, the 5s plus uses a normal sensor with a monochrome sensor, similar to P9, and this allows (should) better lowlight, and higher dynamic range, however from samples I've seen, Xiaomi has not implemented it very well. They would have been better off with one 378 sensor, as that is currently one of the best mobile sensors
Man I think the original idea is ask about how we can get the eis and quality photos video from pixel to the mi5s small who carrier the same sensor.
How get software from pixel to mi5s (pixel too expensive), I want use the Xiaomi mi5s small with cm14 and Google pixel software/library features camera

Yes, and I think I've already answered that. Pixel runs android 7.1, Mi5s runs 6.0, you can't get the camera app that comes with pixel to run on mi5s, and if you manage to backport that to android 6.0, what if it needs some library, can you make sure that it is can run on android 6.0, while it is built for android 7.1?
Moreover, I found out the hard way that Mi5s did not specify it's HFR modes, so the latest Google Camera that is compatible with android 6.0 won't run at all. Except if you turn the HFR functionality off, by adding this line to your build.prop:
Code:
persist.camera.hal3hfr.enable=0
I don't know if this bug comes from xiaomi, or xiaomi.eu (as I am running xiaomi.eu's ROM right now), and I don't know if it's gonna be fixed in the future.
You're welcome to pursue this idea, but keep that things in mind
Since Google's HDR+ is so good in low light, has anyone tried alternative 3rd party apps that use image stacking to improve low light IQ ( Better Camera and Snap HDR Cam low light modes come to mind)
I am interested in this phone because of the price and sensor and would like an HDR+ alternative.
Has anyone tried those apps? Thanks
Try cortex camera, it basically is the best app at stacking images.

Hi, thanks for the information about google camera. Any possibility that we can have settings like manual iso, or hdr (just normal hdr) ? Is it exclude to nexus devices, I mean after hacking still? How about the snapdragon camera, it seems that we need caf kernel, but maybe it's working after adding this line?

That's true, I'm just curious if google has better post processing (now I think an app won't change much) If apps can't change, is it possible to copy the drivers from pixel, if the sensors are the same? Meanwhile, we don't have iso 50 (although maybe the native iso is 100, so 100 might be better than 50). Freedcam seems to be able to enable eis on camera api 1, but it crashed a lot, and it's api 1. Now I'm confused which is the best choice. I'm using snap camera, but there's no long exposure like the stock camera (up to 32s, I think it's a stack of photos). Sorry I asked a lot, but it seems that you are an expert . Last question, the stock camera in manual mode, the preview never changes while changing iso/shutter speed. In other apps, it got very slow when the shutter is long (1/3 s). I wonder if this is because imx 378 is very powerful and generating large data, or it's MIUI‘s bug?

I guess Google's HDR+ algorithm is the only great thing the Pixel has we don't besides that fact they don't have long exposure so they can't take as good night pics as us.
In camera 1 Api we can go all the way to 60 sec, although stock libs limited at 32 sec which is fine. Also we do have ISO 50 on FreeDcam API 2, I think I have a specially built FreeDcam by @defcomg who sorted it out. I'll ask him if I he or I can post it here.
Also Quallcomm seemed to mess up the camera libs recently and max exposure on cam 2 api is only around 5 sec.
But I suggest you to experiment with Snap and FreeDcam, I use FreeDcam for long exposures and low light shots. And I use snap camera in the day time. I have denoise and ZSL forced off for both of them.
The preview should get slow and laggy on cam 2 api but stay the same on Cam 1 api

I tried freedcam with 50 iso, but the photo actually got iso 100 still. You can also set iso 50 in snap camera, which still outputs 100.
Turn ZSL (0 lag?) is better for HDR? I heard a saying that ZSL is not as good as longer hdr, which is software implementation.

When zsl is enabled you can't have manual controls, so that's why I disable it. But also try in FreeDcam (cam 1) to set shutter speed and leave ISO on auto and see, it's possible to get up to 0 ISO.

cam 1 you mean Camera api 1? It crash a lot (every time I touch to focus, or use exposure longer than 1/3s ). I couldn't got iso lower than 100. Do I need to use hdr mode to get this or any mode as long as I set iso to auto and a long shutter?
hdr+ is out for mi5s

If you are rooted you have to add below line in build.prop -
Code:
persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1
after that reboot. you will have working gcam with HDR+. although the slomo option won't work. and you will have EIS too in gcam.

If you cant find the difference by looking at the samples posted, then you dont need HDR+.
But the fact is the difference is night and day!
Google is primarily known for software, which is what HDR+ is all about.. It uses the camera h/w, takes many pics when you click the shutter button, each in different contrast, and applies some kick-ass machine learning algorithms on every pixel of each groups of pics it took, fuses all of them, to get awsome looking pics.. Thats all it does, and thats all that no other stock camera app does from any other manufacturer. Thats why it beats even iphone.
So basically, google does more through software , what all others achieve through multiple h/w.. Reason why pixel 2 still has single Camera.

Discussion on new 64bit releases

I'm curious as to everyone's thoughts on the advent of 64bit ROMs on the G5 Plus. I know a lot of users here have been interested in getting their hands on these ROMs.
Generally, what do owners think will be some of the advantages and disadvantages of using 64bit ROMs on our phone, both now and in the future?
If you currently are running a 64bit ROM, are you enjoying it and do you find it to be better than 32bit?

Flattered that you think I'd know, but I'm still on the stock rom and using this blasted 32-bit version with unreliable focus from the nexus. I'm interested in 64-bit ROMs only because I've read that other users have it working more-or-less flawlessly. @defcomg, for example, has posted all kinds of wonderful shots here and on flickr / photography forums, and despite coming up with one of the best modifications for the stock camera app (see his chromatix mod to remove the ugly sharpening and NR), claims that HDR+ is the way to go now.
I just assumed the major x64 versions floating around all worked. I've heard that the Pixel Experience x64 rom has it built in even.

There we go.
Yes, this is a 64bit build- most are. The Nexus 5x was the last 32-bit version with HDR+, and it doesn't support the settings you show... those options don't even exist in settings on the 32-bit version. Its very basic. I WISH someone would port this to the 32-bit one, but I don't have any realistic reason to think anyone will.
To everyone else looking for a 64-bit version that works with AF, here's your answer.

For some reason I still can't get auto focus working when using HDR+. Auto ISO and color balance works with HDR+ on, but the only way I can get it to focus is to swipe to the video, and then back over to take the picture like the 32 bit port. I was able to get auto focus working when I set the rear camera to LEVEL_3, but then HDR+ doesn't process and it takes the photo as if HDR+ were turned off. I've also tried turning ZSL on and off via the buildprop and rebooting each time but it didn't seem to make a difference so I left it on.
That being said, this is still a big improvement over the ported 32 bit version; much more stable and much better at holding focus when switching back over to the camera, and much thanks for posting your settings. I've tried this camera before but couldn't get HDR+ working under at all because I couldn't figure out the correct settings for our phone.

No slow motion, no 60fps either. 4k stutters a bit but 1080p 30 fps seems to work fine. You have to set it to 60 fps then reopen the camera, otherwise it's zoomed in. Setting it to 60 fps, it still records in 30 fps.

Currently I was using pixel rom 64bit version.
I noted that hdr+ was not working, but auto focus and other issues were fixed.

Any comments, I am actually confused with this...
Thanks!!

Is it recording a RAW?
I'm trying one of Savitar's 32-bit Gcam with raw capture on my phone, and it saves a smaller JPEG (2-3mb) and a RAW dng file (18-24mb). If you know anything about photography, you know why RAW is bigger and better, but not always necessary. Otherwise, I can't think of a reason a jpeg would be that big.

yea I understand but thats not RAW for sure, cause it saves in jpeg format only, and are not comparable with RAW shots at all, they can only be compared to HDR+ shots that too only in daylight,
At night those images are blurry and not so good as compared to hdr+ but still their sizes are 17mb to 18.20mb.

Ah, so your file ends in jpeg and not dng. Weird. I don't know what it means. The 64 bit side is something I'm still watching evolve for now. Maybe someone in the pixelrom thread knows?

Yes, this is a 64bit build- most are. The Nexus 5x was the last 32-bit version with HDR+, and it doesn't support the settings you show... those options don't even exist in settings on the 32-bit version. Its very basic. I WISH someone would port this to the 32-bit one, but I don't have any realistic reason to think anyone will.
To everyone else looking for a 64-bit version that works with AF, here's your answer.

Wrong, nexus 5x is a 64bit device with 64bit OS and CPU, it used the 64bit version of 3.2.045 before it turned into ARM64 only app from 4.4.x .
the 4.2.035 version exists due to Nexus 6 being updated to 7.1.1 and SD 805 is still a 32Bit cpu.
and the 3.2.045 version is the last version for Nexus 5 which was officially stopped at 6.0.1.
its worth 64bits rom on 2gb variant?

camera2 api highframerate recording

Many roms without camera2.api support 1080p 60fps recording via snapdragon and other camera apps ( Citrus, Aex etc).
But in my experience z2 plus cant record 60fps if camera2.api is enabled.
ie in gcam 1080p 60fps is not possible.
In nougat roms flashing osstwrp enables camera2.api but after that high frame rate recording is not possible.
In oreo roms which camera2.api already added 60fps is not possible in any camera app.
I'm not a dev.
Tried to edit media profiles, build.prop, magisk modules but no luck.
I'm searching desperately for a solution in xda more than 6 months.
Because nothing matches gcam in photo quality and 60fps is a must have video feature.
Please any dev kind enough do a research and edit library files so that using camera2.api we could record 1080p 60fps.
Please devs @MR.HACKER5476 @davidevinavil @kubersharma @Rodrigo Rodrigues @devabhi @narshi shukla @optimumpro can anyone point look into this matter? This is a really need for Zuk Z2 and I hope you devs can fix this small but weird issue!

Since nobody responds this is what Im currently doing as a workaround.
Im in H2O oreo build.
There is afterflash patch for this build.
In that patch there are 2 camera.msm8996.so files.
One for stock and one for gcam.
If you replace stock vendor/lib/hw/camera.msmxxxx.so with gcam .so file then camera2.api works and vice versa.
And reboot not required.
A root explorer is only needed.
Atleast, by a file replace we can switch.
A must read about hal3 and libraries
https://www.reddit.com/r/oneplus/comments/7cz7t5/oneplus_roms_camera_situation/
I hope we can get this HAL changing stuff too! We can use stock camera in conjunction with Google Camera!

May be u try what this does.
Kid yourself not. Zuk's camera hardware is not capable of 60fps in high resolution. Just look up the specs.

He is the legendary jaguar's optimumpro right..?
Why he talk like this..?
Surprised.
Anyone still doesn't know 1080p 60fps possible in zuk?.
60fps with gcam working is so ignored in this forum. I individually asked many devs for this in their rom threads but no one responds.
I know its is not easy but at least a reply from a dev is enough.

Even I have PMed devs like kubersharma but I didn't get much of a response. Kuber is busy with ArrowOS offlately as he is in the development team.. let's see if some dev comes to help . @optimumpro can you figure this? Cause it works on stock ROM and some custom roms with old camera api1..

I think its not needed. As we already know.
Don't know why optimumpro doubted us.
Another useful post I found.
Its from Mi5 thread. But I think its also applicable to us.
I think this is the reason for 60fps not happening.
Camera2.api is incomplete and camera1.api works only in legacy mode.
defcomg said:
The Camera Hal has 2 APIs one Named Qcamera2 and the other Qcamera3
Qcamera2 has the id 256 Qcamera 3 has id 786 or 756 can't remember the exact number now.
By Default all Qualcomm devices after SD600 use Qcamera2 this is what the miui camera uses basically Camera 1 api
Qcamera 3 is what activates camera 2 api it is Camera 2.
When Android Loads up and the camera hal loads it checks for the build.prop flag posted in this thread if it finds it and has value of 1 it sends a command with hal Id 786 effectively disabling qcamera 2.
When Qcamera 3 loads camera 2 is enabled so is camera 1 however camera 1 in qcamera 3 runs in a sort of emulated mode where it only has basic function like color effect exposure compensation white balance etc .
That's why functions such as HDR fail because they are part of qcamera 2.
Now there is a solution for this before I get to that I will explain how the camera is opened
App > Framework Java > Camera Client Lib > Hal Lib.
App executes Camera.open > inside Framework Java Android.Hardware.Camera Class is a method called open this invokes a native method which invokes camera client > Camera Client then also invokes the open method > then the hal starts up the camera . that's the normal way for camera 1.
Inside qcamera2 there is an alternate method called openLegacy what this allow is for qcamera2 to be called directly even with camera 3 active so when using the normal way of camera.open it uses qcamera3 when using camera.openLegacy it defaults back to qcamera2 for that session.
My proposal was yo redirect all camera.open request in the framework to camera.openLegacy so its system wide alternatively is to patch miui Camera .
I hope that makes sense

Either gud still or gud video.
Not both.
Its impossible without proper camera blob and libraries I think.

Lets hope it comes in zui5 pie.
Since pie is announced for zuk z2 china.
At present the dev or group who made cam2 api for our device are the only hope.
I dont know who did it.

Gcam 4.2 Mods + Magisk 2x Exposure Mod (Ali)

Hello,
GCam mods:
This gcam 4.2 mod originates from Potter/HTC developers and has been tweaked for sharpen and higher frame count on our device. Also be sure to go to settings and set Potter Extra/af to 20x (will be set as default in future).
2x Exposure Mod
This magisk module is for Ali and pie vendor only.
For Pie Vendor Only and will make viewfinder laggy
This shutter speed will be twice as slow as what is displayed in exif or manual mode.
All credits to Tadi and Savitar.

Hello,
what brings more than gcam 4.2 on oreo?
this allows a better night photo?

As long as we're 32bit, we can't get newer than 4.2.

The exposure mod will probably only work on pie vendor.
The lg q7 gcam has lower max hdr+ frame count, no raw support, no manual focus option, broken auto focus, and high digital gain usage.
I think you will see better results with this mod.
OK, thanks. look forward to receiving the update OTA pie
Bug
In v2, we need to use 20af? And there is a bug in taking photos in RAW even though "enable raw" is disabled.

No, and thank you for finding that one. I'll look into the fix.
1.0 is better than 2.0
Use version 1.0, in my opinion, it is better than version 2.0 for photos and I do not think a new version is coming.
Edited: Nevermind.

The image quality of version 1.0 seems to be better and sharper than version 2.0, just as the file size is larger in 1.0. In version 2.0 there are bugs already mentioned in relation to RAW photos, the camera crashes if you take snapshots in fast sequences with the HDR + enabled and there is no way to take new photos until HDR + processing is finished. (In version 1.0 it is possible).

Okay, working on fixing them. I'll apply the old sharpen values and change buffer size to accommodate more hdr+ pictures. 1.0 had more sharpen artifacts however, which is partly where the increase in file size came from despite same jpeg compression level. In lower light settings you'll have slightly fewer you can process nonetheless due to higher possible frame count.
Just fixed infinite focus in 2.0 based by setting correct hyperfocal distance for G6, but will upload after a few more fixes.

Version 3 seems more stable, with no apparent bug, good and stable photo quality. The only problem is still the impossibility of taking a new photo until HDR + processing is finished, but otherwise, it's perfect.

I can do another variant or option for lower hdr+ frame counts to work around this, but it is a trade off. The high frame count causes this.

Yes, I'll do another variant with a lower frame count within about a day. You can also just disable hdr+ if you want to snap quick photos. Only regression from v2 to v3 is smartburst is enabled but doesn't work, in v2 it was disabled because of this.

Hey, a bug found in version 3: You can not make recordings on the camera.
Edit: only occasionally, the first attempt at recording did not start, but at the second attempt it seems to be already working
