Unicode Error on MiUI 8 - Xiaomi Mi 6 Questions & Answers

Good Morning:
The first one I'm sorry if this issue has already been commented but using search engine and even google I have not seen anything to solve my problem.
Yesterday I released my Mi6 having spent quite a few files that I usually use from my previous mobile. Some of these files are pdf's and docs. of Office that I need and that opened with the app WPS office and that I installed also yesterday.
Suddenly I find the problem that some pdf can not open (other yes) and that docs. of word, I get a thousand rare characters. I have read that it may be unicode UTF8 problem that MIUI has problems with, I do not know if by the rom etc ....
I have reviewed in the app and it was in GBK coding but if I try to switch to UTF8 it does not work either.
The strange thing is that it has not let me see it well on the pc, probably because I opened it from the same mobile.
Has anyone ever seen anything like it happen? I have already said that the only thing I have found in official forums of MIUI, referred to problems precisely with said unicode in miui 7 and 8 ...
Thank you very much

upgrade to excel

High to all, first time on this particular forum and feel this will be the first of many issues to come.
After spending many long days/nights writing routines in excel (on a pc) i thought it would be a good idea to get a PDA of some sort so that i now would be able to do calcs on site instead of carrying laptop or going to and from the office.
2 days ago i bought a "O2 XDA Mini S" but when load my excel sheets which have visual basic routines they do not work as it has become apparent that it does'nt support visual basic.
Have looked within this forum for a while but have been unable to find a definite answer to the problem, does anyone know how can upgrade excel so it has visual basic behind excel or would the file size be to large to accept on this phone?
P.s have been made aware of space issues and windows slowing down so if possible would only need the excel upgrade as phone not going to be used for much else I.E only couple .mp3/.wav files and not many pictures, (only got the phone for the excel functions so if cannot get it to work my routines will be as much use a chocolate fireguard)
Thanks to all who have looked and cheers for your time

to put it simply, i would suggest you have three fifths of bugger all chance....

Use textmaker & planmaker instead of pocket word & pocket excel. U can find it somewhere in the forum.

Install letter recognizer in a ROM that has it removed

Hi folks,
The rom (Artemis touch 4.0.2) that I have flashed my 3300 is fantastic except for the fact that it doesn't have the letter recognizer as an sip option.
I've searched for a letter recognizer cab and the only links that seem to be the following cabs:
-myprogram.cab (which is supposed to be only for the trinity)
-enableRecognizersNL.CAB
-SIPChange.CAB
-enablerecognizerswwe.cab
All they seem to do is change the registry to default it to the letter recognizer, but it seems that this rom doesn't have it installed at all.
This thread points to this thread which is dead.
I have really gotten used to the letter recognizer.
IMO it is faster and less processor dependant than the transcriber.
Is there an easy way to install this functionality?
Thanks
Laudanum
Nevermind
I ran enablerecognizerswwe.cab again. It seems to have done it.
I'm going to attach the cab so people can find it easier than I did.
sorry folks,
laudanum
+1 Thanks!
Odd that it needs two installs, but it works which is the main thing.
Gone after soft-reset...will keep trying.
Edit:Selectable via QuickMenu (rom is using HTC Touch Input & Swype which stops it appearing in the normal selection for some reason).
Anyone an idea how to save the manilla-player its playlists?

Haven't played with the player, I tend to use core player or TCPMP for music. I assume the playlist is kept on soft-reset thus stored somewhere. Try searching for keywords which are in the file names perhaps. Flashing my rom at the moment, but will have a look when I get chance.
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\Music\current_playlist_name refers to the name of the selected playlist
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\Music\current_playlist gives it an id number i.e. ID1965180
So far unable to find the playlist name or id anywhere else.
Edit: Found it! The playlists are contained within the file below:
Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\AudioManager_Eng
You can try saving this file and restoring it on a new rom (but you may face issues with different versions of manila). However, perhaps try placing .m3u playlists within the "playlists" folder you never know it may read those too.

[Q] File Browser

I just got my self a samsung windows phone 7 and was looking around for a few hours. my question is, Is there a file browser(file explorer) built into WP7. I just cant imagine Microsoft settling with Iphone like interface where you need to sync music a photos and what not.
Simple answer is no and you won't be seeing one from Microsoft any time soon if at all. You can find plenty of threads on this topic if you take the time to search for them.
thank you. yea i would searched but didnt really have time to spare :\
I moved from an HD2 to an HD7 a week ago and thus far I haven't missed having a file browser. In fact I had completely forgotten about it until now.
....
Nope, I still don't miss it.

It's probably because you don't do things which require that massively.
Like me - I never watch movies on my device so I did never care about missing codecs support.
But that doesn't mean they're not needed.
And BTW, regarding users etc.
The most successfull platform today supports all those missing things
yet it didn't prevent it from boasting a massive success on the market.
I'm probably going to try it this year, there are announcements of upcoming devices in Poland
unfortunately no qwerty ones (HD7,Trophy and this great LG)

maybe we don't miss it because we are not trying to use our devices as usb sticks (of which most people have several laying around).
The OS was designed that if something is stored on the phone, the proper apps can find them.
I too have not missed having a file explorer. The only reason I ever used it was to install cabs/ tweaks/ mods which are unnecessary on this device.

So I say still - you don't do things which require that. Fine for you.
Composing email with many different attachements is the simple example here, without success on WP7 right now.
Deleting unwanted files on the device en masse is the second.
Currently you cannot even put all the desired files easily on the device with one simple move
Like docs, videos, pics alltogether. Videos are compressed for instance AFAIK before beeing stored.
Zune does not support docs. All is complicated than.
Device's ability to recognize files by an app is not blocking seeing the file structure.
My SE X2 can do it like WP7, but with all the file explorer capabilities.

Never needed to do that yet, but I'm sure the ability to do so will come via an update before I need it. It was very, very rare for me to need to do that when I used WM too.

Funny, I just deleted a folder full of photos from my HD7 by tap-holding the folder and pressing "delete".

Docs sync to Skydrive automatically if you use Windows Live Mesh like I do. Videos, Pics and Music all sync over wireless to the phone via Zune. How hard is that? Drag 'n' drop.
Erm...have you actually USED WP7?

Yep, so are photos and music, all squeezed down to fit the phone's screen and memory. You don't HAVE to let Zune squeeze them, but it's an option I use extensively. No need for a 10Megapixel image on a 480x800 screen. No need for my mp3s to be more than 128Kbps either when using a bluetooth headset.

No the docs sync via Windows Live Mesh. Sheesh. It's all automated.
As mentioned before, just do a proper search for the answer of the thread, the other comments are off again and do not contribute.

offline google voice recognition files

I'd like to know where the files are for google search's offline voice recognition. I believe the path to the folder is /data/data/com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/ , but I'm wondering what comes next (path-wise)? I'm specifically looking for British English. What is the path to the folder, the folder name and what are the items in the root of this folder?
Why I'm asking is because I tried several things based on google search, but they did not work. However, the posts were all a little old, so maybe things changed. Also, I'm asking on GNex thread cause I had this phone (broke down a week ago), and it worked, but my new (budget x86) phone does not give the option to download offline files.
Thanks
P.S. Please mention whether you are using LP or not when you answer?

Question Clipboard stopped working after today's update (Verizon)

Hoping somebody can help me. I installed the update from Verizon this morning updating my version of Android and security software. Once my phone booted back up and I long press in any text area all I have is the option of paste now. If I hit the three dots next to it it has an option of autofill. I no longer have the option of clipboard which I used frequently.
I have searched all over and did a keyword search and settings and I do not see any option of bringing it back. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there any way for me to resolve this? I have tried multiple phone reboots and have tried text box long-pressing in multiple apps including Google search and if it's all the same for the context menu. Hoping someone could help. Thank you!
I'm on AT&T, but have an unlocked model. I have not experienced this. I wonder if switching keyboards (Google/Samsung) might jolt it back?
Worst case, back-up what you can and use Odin to do a clean install of 12.
I'm on Verizon using unlocked ZF3. Have the update and have been using the clipboard fine.
You think after the next update I may get fixed?
Same thing happened on my T-mobile phone after the update the other day, and I use the clipboard daily for pasting multiple things and also to delete sensitive copied things! I Googled it and there's a Reddit thread where it happened to tons of people with different phones after upgrading to Android 12, so it isn't just the Fold 3. Some people have it when using the Samsung Keyboard, but I don't use that (I use SwiftKey and have for many, many years), and some people still don't have it with that keyboard. SwiftKey does have its own clipboard, so I thought I'd have to change to using that, BUT someone left a better tip: use the Edge Panel Clipboard and you can see everything you clipped, drag one to where you want to paste it, hit Copy to use the long-press Paste in the text box, and long-press the copied item to delete or pin it to the clipboard. I tried it and it is a good solution, but hopefully they will fix the long-press to include the Clipboard option again so we can choose exactly where in the text to paste it!
having the same issue after upgrading s10+ from android 10 to 12, no more acces to the clipboard when using swiftkey (I have tried older versions al the way down to 6.3.6 ... no sollution)
a cheap trick from samsung to steal swiftkey users back ???
any sollution ?
and no, I am not interested in gboard or other alternatives, I really want to continue with swiftkey (which I have been using satisfyingly for many years ... EAT THAT samsung)

SwiftKey has its own clipboard if you set it up (and can copy things from your Windows computer to your SwiftKey phone keyboard apparently), but I don't use it even though I've been using SwiftKey for many, many years. I like the clipboard Edge Panel solution, although occasionally it will say you can't paste it where you want to drag it to, so you have to tap the Copy button so you can regular paste it instead.
thx Butter
I noticed that solution shortly ago
that is indeed a temporary sollution, it works but it is a bit more cumbersome thab what we were used to ;-)
