Modem not working after going back to MM? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I'm on 6.0 and i cannot seem to get the modem to work on my phone.
Is it because i was on rooted 5.1 before that, and root loses modem?
But i upgraded to 6.0 and that loses root, but mobile data still doesn't work.
Does anyone have a fix for this?

You haven't provided very much information.
I'm presuming you used LGUP-NEW and upgraded straight to 6.0 without first refurbishing with a stock 5.1 (i.e., an unrooted stock version for your specific country/carrier), before upgrading to 6.0? If so, that may be where the problem arose.
You could try a factory reset with what you have installed - not sure it will solve, but worth a try.
The next thing I would suggest is refurbishing with the appropriate stock 5.1 for your country/carrier - confirm that the modem and mobile data is working before then upgrading with the appropriate 6.0 stock kdz.

IIRC I used the refurbish option when I went to 5.1, then rooted, then got rid of root before upgrading to 6.0, which is where I'm at today.

That's what I suspected.
Unfortunately, when you have used the root injection method on an H812, the interaction with SuperSU is not straightforward nor fully understood (refer to the thread at https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/reverse-engineering-lg-g4-root-t3628778 where steadfaster X, ReeS86 and I explored this issue in part). If you re-read the root injection thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/lg-g4-100-root-success-directives-root-t3180586), you will note that the suggested way to lose root is to refurbish first with the stock 5.1 kdz you used in the first place with LGUP-NEW, then upgrade to 6.0 with it.
Back up your data fully and using LGUP-NEW, refurbish with the 5.1 stock KDZ you used in the first place and see if you regain your modem and mobile data - if you do, then upgrade to 6.0.

The first thing to do is:
Go into settings and check your baseband version. If it's unknown thats likely the reason for your issues and normally can be solved by wiping the modemst1 and modemst2 partitions.
Then please explain exactly what is working and what not. You say your "modem" is not working but this is not much information:
Do you have an issue to get cell service?
Do you have an issue to get mobile data/internet?
Do you have an issue to get specific mobile data/internet speeds(i.e. LTE, 3G,...)?

Ok good. So this seems to be an apn issue then. The modem works fine when you get cell service and if you can call and the other site can hear you and vice versa.
There is a section in the hidden menu (check http://tinyurl.com/antirollg4 at the top you find the how-to get in) where you can reset the APNs which may help out here.
Sent from my LG-H815 using XDA Labs

You can reset your apn in the H812 by going to Settings > Mobile data > touch on the 3 dot menu at the top right of the screen there > touch on Mobile networks > touch on Access point names > touch on the 3 dot menu at the top right of the screen > touch on Reset to default.
If that doesn't help you could delete and add the appropriate data for Koodo in New APN on the same last menu pop-up screen.

E971 update V20D?

Hi all,
I just noticed that there seems to be an update for the Rogers version of the Optimus G...seems to be named V20D. Any thoughts? I can't seem to update to it (get an error) and I've tried un-rooting as well as re-locking, and still get "Err: 0x13e"
Any helpful suggestions are appreciated!

Tried KDZ back to stock and upgrade or perhaps KDZ install it directly if you can get it?
Thanks, that does indeed work (KDZ to stock then upgrade), but I was hoping to preserve current settings if possible...any other suggestions?
update:
Although root is lost and bootloader is back to stock, it seems flashing the 1GB KDZ over top my current settings works and almost everything seems fine so far.

I've been trying to find a change log for this update but have been unsuccessful. Anyone?
nope, i couldn't find one either. the only thing i noticed other than the software version change is that under "About phone" there is now a "Regulatory and Safety" section.
I was only rooted and it seems to have kept root after the update. Still don't know what it changed besides the about section
To me, it seems as if standby battery life has improved.

[Q] Rooted - can't get OTA Lollipop

I used Purple Drake some time ago to root my device but I'd now like lollipop and would rather get that without wiping device (which I think is necessary for a custom ROM install).
First time I tried the OTA, it came up saying that it suspected rooting so wouldn't install. I unrooted but it still didn't work.
Following another thread on here, I tried to use LG PC Suite to fix the issue but I can't get PC suite to fix the problem.
So, can you help me?
I'd be happy with stock OTA lollipop (understanding that I'll lose root, possible permanently) if someone can work out how to get past the root check on the update (I don't have root anymore but it thinks that I might have)
I'd be happy with a custom ROM based on stock, if I didn't have to do a full wipe.
Any helpers?

There's a guide to flashing back to stock in the forum here, I think you need to flash something else too
Thanks - the only guide that I can see about flashing back to stock involves a wipe also.
If you can find a thread that allows a flash back to stock without a wipe, that would be ideal.

No such thing exists. If you are going to do a full and proper unroot or return to stock to take an OTA (as you should) your device will be wiped completely. If you would Bump your G3 and install a custom Lollipop rom (I highly recommend this), then you could upgrade to Lollipop by only wiping your system and data partitions, not your Internal Storage as well. You would lose all yours apps, but not the contents of your internal SD card. If you let Google auto-backup and restore all apps and data on the first boot, it will put everything back the way you had it before you're even used to the new Lollipop environment.
I have looked at the custom ROMs - is there a bumped ROM based on stock where "everything works"?

I'll give this a go on another computer as whenever i tried the repair or update options, cut kept telling me That it couldn't check the update status. I had assumed That this was tied into the phone being rooted but possibly not.
I think PC Suite doesn't check if you're rooted (AFAIK, don't quote me on this one) but DON'T UPDATE WHILE ROOTED some.people have had bootloops and other issues after updating. Go back to KitKat, root and flash a pre-rooted Lollipop ROM

Thanks for the warning. I have been searching for a rooted Stock ROM but all of the ones that I have found have 'issues' where things don't work.
Whenever I try to do anything with PC Suite, it pops up a dialog saying "Cannot check update unavailability [sic]"
Has anyone else had that problem?

best thing to do is wait, to be honest. Lollipop has only just started to roll out to most markets, so devs haven't realistically had much time to work their magic.
ChupaChups is a decent ROM (although I think it's for the international D855 only) and is based on 5.0, so try that?

Also it's based on 20D which is fairly recent (my D855 only just got the 20E update)

I've tried a different machine connected to a different network and not only do I get this error message but when I ask PC Suite to see if there is an updated version of the PC Suite software, it complains that it isn't connected to the internet on both machines.
Does anybody have a link to a version of the software which is known to work?

If nobody can help with this, is there an easy way to remove the rooted flag?
Hey guys, im jumping on this thread as im in the same boat with OP, im on stock rooted kitkat and just got the OTA update but id rather keep root so our only option here is a custom ROM i suppose?
Couple of questions here... Do we need a customer recovery? If yes which one?
And, is AndroidNow HD or ChupChups the best lolipop rom?
Thanks guys and thanks OP for creating this thread

Bluetooth after Android 6 update and root

Hi,
updated my LG G4 H815 to Android 6 using LG Bridge. After the update I rooted it.
Root works fine. But I encountered a problem with my bluetooth today. I switch it on, but it does not work.
No previously pared devices are found and I cannot search for other devices because the search-button is not enabled.
Has somebody the same problem? Is it because of Android 6 or the rooting? If bluetooth works on an unrooted devices
I can go back an also unroot my phone, but if it is a Android 6 problem - then it s***ks...

Well, I found a site, where a kernel root was provided. I flashed it using TWRP.
So everything works fine, except the Bluetooth. And I got some problems with my SDcard.
The LG showed me a notification that the SDcard is damaged. After I format it, it's still mentioned as damaged.
Then I formated it on my laptop as a FAT and now it works... I guess this is also due to the wrong kernel...
I will reset to stock factory by using LG Bridge. If the problems are gone, I will reconsider to root it...
You should update to 20B . Just follow the "Super Duper Safe Install Directions". I had the same problems and could fix it, following those instructions.

LG G3 d855 problems after flash

Hello. I have d855 android 5.0 . Wanted to install cm 13. and here are my steps:
1. Rooted my 5.0 , flashed TWRP, and flashed CM13 and gapps. There was a problems with dialer after flash, so i downgraded phone into 4.4.2 V10a (using .tot and .dll files) . .
2. Again tried to flash CM13, but process was aborted and phone bricked.
3. Flashed stock 4.4.2 again. Again no luck to write CM .
4. Flashed stock 5.0 v21a using lg flashtool. Again - if i want to flash CM - phone always bricked (error executing updater binary) . And now, even with stock 5.0 my phone data connection do not work (only wifi works)
Please help .... how to reflash my phone and get CM and back data connection??
Just tried flash 4.4.2 again. Flashed successfully, but still any data connection Tried update into 5.0 using phone software updater, but after few updaters it fails (invalid software package).
Today found, that data connection works perfectly if i set GSM/WCDMA . If LTE is selected, there are no data connection at all. Also, can't flash custom rom, phone always stuck at LG logo. Anybody can help so solve my problems?

I want to cite only the first point you described, because it's "abominable"!
Sorry for the harsh tones, but... the dialer issues obviously involved the Cyanogen rom, especially because you're using the first nightlies, often unstable.
Why you accused the official firmware (therefore no more existing since you replaced them) and decided to downgrade?
Then you've to known that important downgrades like Lollilop > KitKat may irreversibly corrupt system partitions like "efs", which make your device losing of IMEI code and mobile data!
Now the only thing you can do is updating your device by settings menu until you reach latest firmware (21A).
Since you've to manually confirm each updates (10A, 10E, 20A etc.), the process will take almost 1-2 hour.
When the update process in definitely completed, you can try to root device, install TWRP and flash latest CM13 nightly.
In case of other issues, try the quite stable CM 12.1, or the stock-based FulmicsRom.
If you continue to have troubles, do a CSE flash of 21A firmware and send your device to warranty.

Surely downgrading the entire firmware to the first release of KitKat broke the radio part of your device.
Probably if you downgraded to latest KitKat firmware (10h maybe, instead of 10a), LTE should works properly.
Have you encountered that connectivity issue even before flashing CM 13 (on official firmware)?

No, after flashing everything was fine. There is a way to reflash radio part without downgrading again ? Because when i spoted that data connection do not working, i downgraded firstly to 10a (no data connection), then i get 10h update - still no data connection. And after 10h update, my phone got another update, but showed that can't update because package is wrong of something. After that i flashed 21A what i have in my phone now.

Probably the mobile data issue was related to CM 13.
But when you downgraded to 10A, the radio part was really damaged.
As I said if you want to downgrade, always preger the "less old" firmware you need.
Like you, I downgraded in past to KitKat, but I never looked for 10A! I directly flashed 10H.
Sorry, but at this point I don't know what you have to do.
When you flashed 21A firmware, have you done a CSE flash instead of a normal one?
If not, do it.
If yes, you have to appeal to warranty without any problem, since your device has official firmware.

If not, do it.
If yes, you have to appeal to warranty without any problem, since your device has official firmware.

Yes, i did CSE flash. Ok, thank you. I think there are no more options than warranty.

YES
Welp... today i updated stock ROM to the latest version, after that i unlocked bootloader on Motos website, flashed TWRP, installed LineageOS and coudlnt get signal to connect to GSM, then flashed Resurrection Remix and same problem, everything works except calls, signal bars at at 0, no service.
This reminds me of some issues i had years ago and i needed to flash an older modem for calls to work.
Is anyone else having issues after updating to the latest stock ROM version?
EDIT: just confirmed theres something in the latest OTA that blocks GSM funcionality on custom ROMS, i did the exact same proccess with my brother's phone which is the same as mine, Boost E4, but this time without updating the stock ROM, just went directly to unlocking bootloader out of the box and this time is working perfectly.
I need some help now on how to go back to stock ROM and unlock mine.
It is really sneaky for them to do that! Anyone else run into the same problem? I am hoping to use my 1766 with GSM as well. Any luck reverting the changes?

Follow the instructions in my stock firmware thread here to restore your device to the most current stock Android OS and firmware config. https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e4/how-to/firmware-restoring-moto-e4-xt1766-t3820749
However, as far as downgrading your radio firmware, the bootloader (/aboot) has a feature that prevents downgrading. Attempting to downgrade the bootloader will trip a qFuse and hard brick your device. Sprint is notorious for network restricting their devices. They've been doing this for years. Downgrading the Android OS itself is no problem, but downgrading protected firmware partitions is next to impossible.

I read the thread but it is not clear to me if this will solve my problem. From what I understand, the latest OTA blocks GSM usage. But I'm not sure if it also prevents me from using it with other MVNO. I don't see a way to edit APN. It lets me select from a list of Sprint APNs but none of them works. No way to edit or add.

On another CDMA, the difficulty will not be with the device itself, but rather with MEID whitelisting.

I was able to register Boost Moto E4 with Tello. I can make phone calls but I cannot use any data (same account, so I know there should be data). The behavior is similar to GSM carriers before APN is setup. I am not sure if it is related to the update.

Oh okay. That makes things clearer. With Boost Mobile being a Sprint owned subsidiary, and Tello being a Sprint affiliated MVNO, you are correct that with voice being functional, your data connection should likewise work. (Contrary to popular belief, Boost Mobile is not an MVNO and never has been.) I believe that, in your situation, the last OTA is likely not the problem, but rather with your ability -- or lack thereof -- to edit the APN settings. But, on a positive note, with root of the stock OS, using a root file editor can be used to manually modify your apns-config.xml file to add the 4G/LTE data and MMS parameters for Tello. I believe there are also root dependent apps which can edit APN settings.
Since your xt1766 is the Boost Mobile variant, your default APN & telephony parameters are configured specifically for Boost Mobile. I'm making an educated guess that using root permissions to add Tello data and MMS parameters should fix your issue.
