Hello, month ago I bought a range extender, the TP-Link TL-WA850RE V4. I set it up correctly step by step from instructions. From the moment when I bought until today I have issues with it. Sometimes it loses connection or I have low speeds (approximately 1-2 Mb/s). My iPad, my parents Windows Phones and my PC have the same speed as main router (When I connect my phone to main router, I get approximately 6-7 MB/s as my other devices). Anybody have this issue? I changed channels and I performed factory reset to range extender but no luck.

I just switched over to an SX66 from an Axim X30 (624Mhz) and loving the converged life.
I've had very few, minor problems but the one that really bothers me is the signal strength of the wifi connection.
In my house, from my bedroom with the Dell, I was able to get a great signal to surf with. However, with the Siemens I don't get connected at all. :x I almost have to be within 20 ft of the router (Belkin) in order to connect and then I do connect. It's not a question of speed, only distance from the router.
Also I was in a hotel last week when I bought the Blue Angel. I had the Axim with me at the time. The Axim had a great signal and I was able to retrieve emails.... The BA did not get any signal.
I am using a sotfware called Wifi companion and use the proper WEP settings but it only connects within 20 feet.
Is this as good as it gets???
Please advise!!
Thanks in advance,
Larry
To some extent, the limited range of the SX66 is due to its design; however, 20 ft sounds a bit extreme. In my experience, the range is a bit better than that -- I've picked my neighbor's WiFi more than once, so that suggests a range of at least 50 ft.
One thing that might help is updating your ROM firmware. Customized SX66-friendly upgrades can be downloaded from http://home.comcast.net/~sx66-blueangel/.
My XDA2s will only pick up the signal from my linksys router in the main rooms of my house. If I go into the conservatory (about 20 feet away) I get nothing. My laptop will pick it up ouside some 30 meters away.
From what I've read in these forums this is about average. Something to do with the antenna position inside the device.
EDIT: Right now I'm sat in my bedroom 5 feet above my wireless router in the room below. My signal strength is 50%.
EDIT 2: I just switched the setings from 'best battery' to 'best performance' and the signal strength dropped to around 33%. Wierd.
On my EVO, sitting right next to my N router, I can get maybe 9-10 mbps downstream. Meanwhile, my laptop can get 22 mbps.
Is this normal for the phone to max out at 9-10 mbps or am I doing something wrong?
** If this is a stupid question, please bear with me as I don't know much about the electronics of wifi on phones. Please explain rather than flame
Upon doing further research on this, I can see that wifi reception on the EVO is a major issue. In the same room my laptop is at full bars, my EVO shows no bars at all. This is a powerful router and I can't get more than 20 feet away without losing signal significantly.
I have noticed I am running on Channel 2. Would I do better if I changed channels? From what I have read only, people are saying that other phones such as the iPhone 3GS have twice the wifi range as the EVO.
Just performed interesting test.
These wifi routers shoot signal in all directions. As a test, I create an aluminum foil parabolic mirror (crude but effective) and put it under and behind my router. I then held the phone 4 feet from the router and ran speedtest.
Results:
WITH FOIL MIRROR:
11396 mbps(d)
1044 mbps(u)
WITHOUT FOIL MIRROR:
9117 mbps(d)
1033 mbps(u)
The up speed in both was about the same as that is due to my EVO beaming back to the router. However, the surprising part was that my downstream speeds increased by almost 25% with the mirror in place.
THE MORAL OF THE STORY:
If you have a wireless router that is situated in a corner or along a wall of your house, create a parabolic "radar dish" using tin foil and place it between the router and the wall and see if you wifi speed and reception does not improve.
** UPDATE:
I live in a pretty big house. The router is in my upstairs office which is the opposite end of the house from my living room. Prior to creating this "radar dish" I had zero wifi reception in the living room. With the "radar dish" I now have 1 out of 3 bars in the living room and am getting around 5 mbps downstream.
I am impressed that such a simple fix could make such a difference.
So I bought a 2013 N7 a few weeks ago, and I love it. When all is right, it's a really speedy device with a great battery in a perfect form-factor.
However, something is pretty goddamn wrong I think. I can't remember if it was like this out of the box, but i've been experiencing TERRIBLE wi-fi speeds. Like dial-up bad. My pretty good Netgear router is in the same room, not obstructed and only a few feet away. My ISP isn't the problem either. Here's an average speed test for me: the picture attached is a recent speed test. When doing my test on my laptop on the same network, it scores 20-30Mbps. The terrible results are consistent.
I've tried switching my router to 5gh, turning off wifi optimalisation, tried diffrent routers in my house, and there's no apps hogging wifi either.
Can anyone help me or is my tablet defective?
What encryption type are you using on the router? Try switching to different ones and seeing if it makes a difference.
Hello. Recently, I opened the back cover of my note a couple of time to reattach the loose LCD ribbon in my tablet. During this time, Isomehow, noticed that the wifi was not working! Well, it was working, but I cant use my device unless im < 10 feet away from a router. However before, it was working perfectly fine, and on my other.devices, everything is fine. Is this a well known problem? Did I damge the internet card in my tablet? Also, the signal is around -60 when im close b
ut when.I walk 10 feet away it is like -90.
I would imagine you have disturbed the Wifi antenna. I haven't seen inside the tablet, but it would more than likely have at least one antenna connected to the Wifi module.
It's usually a thin wire running on the outer frame.

My tablet can not see my wifi router when it suddenly shutdown.
I don't know why my tablet never see name of my wifi router if suddenly turnoff wifi router. I used WP2 and AES & TSKIP.
And if want my tablet P600 see my rounter wifi, i must go to wifi router setting to change AES or TSKIP and then my tablet can see it. But my galaxy s4 don't have this problem. Maybe kernel of galaxy note?
Hi guys,
We've just setup our chromecast network. Now with 1 or even 2 chromecasts in the network, everything runs smooth. But if we switch to a bigger network with 3 or more chromecasts, the connection is really hard or won't even happen at all. Anyone experienced this as well? The Wifi is new and quite strong (with additional routers on the first floor, so the wifi shouldn't be the problem).
Thanks for the reply
This is a limitation of WIFI. The more devices you have on a wifi, less bandwidth you will have available. WIFI protocol is using air time allocation protocol because it can talk only with one device at the same time. More devices you have active, more times it will switch between them to deliver all the packages requested. If you have wifi booster or extenders, I would recommend you to grab them all, smack them with a hammer, put them in water, take them out, dry them in the microwave oven, burn them with a torch and trow them in the garbage because that is what they are. Extenders ads latency and packet loss and also is reducing your bandwidth in half before you even have a device on. Do it yourself or contact a professional to install UNIFI from UBNT or similar products. Huge fan of their gear. If you have it properly installed and set-up(not just plugged in) you wont have any problems with any devices not just Chromecast.
BTW, strong WIFI doesnt mean anything. Your wifi is as strong as the weakest device. You can have a wifi that transmits 10 miles, if your other device transmits back only 30ft, it will be 30ft max wifi range even if at 300ft it shows full bars. The best thing to do is add a bunch of AP with the transmit power on the lowest. Keep in mind that wifi 2.4 has only 3 true channels that wont overlap: 1. 6 and 11. If you set them all the same channels they will hurt them self with their own noise floor. If you properly set them up with a spectrum analyzer, to be right at the limit, you could make them all same channel and do cool things like zero-handoff. Performance WIFI requires knowledge and proper set-up not just plug and go.
