Amoled - Lenovo P2 Questions & Answers

I love the FP gestures but i hate pressing the home button to go to home and also hate to hold the button to got to recent menu.. So finally i have decided to use on screen nav buttons... Is there any harm in using on screen buttons considering its amoled screen?

I don't know what you mean by problem but they will be similar as touching other parts of the screen and won't cause any damage to the screen.

By problem i mean burn in

Yes. Burning nav buttons on screen is a real problem. I use my phone a lot: not so high brightness (something between 20-50%, changing manually), SOT around 12-14h and now I'm going completely opposite way: trying get used to nav keys shortcuts. The reason is, that on my screen I can see burned navigation bar.... But I think it in general depends of your phone usage. By my experience: I don't recommend you using on screen navigation buttons if you planning to use phone a lot.

Well there is an option to hide soft keys in the settings. They will only turn up if you swipe up the screen.

Switch on screen

Well when you want to use the phone you have to press the power button first right? Then slide to unlock.
Is it possible to remap the button to switch screen on from the power button to say...clicking the trackpad? A native way or an app i don't mind. Just seems strange to reach to the top of the phone and i have pretty big hands, it's no problem just me being me i guess.
Download keyguard disabler, then you will be able to turn on the screen with any of the bottom buttons.
Though pressing trackpad seems best as others invoke some kind of action.

Oh that's a shame! Yeah i think any key would cause me to make mistaks while it is in my pocket that's why i would like the trackpad.
I'll live in hope!
Well it was recommended an app called flyscreen but that turned out to be a full lock screen replacement. Not really what I want!
I don't want to give up on this it's my only gripe lol. Anyone any ideas? Or help? Nothing from the Nexus One?
We may have to wait till it's rooted before we get this feature
How about just locking the screen rather than turn it off?

Great way to drain your battery really fast...
If Paul from Modaco gets his Desire it could be rooted very soon. Let's hope so and i want this feature first lol.

Is there a way to wake screen with other buttons?

As a former HTC Hero user i really miss the option to wake the screen using the bottom hardware buttons.
On the Desire you have to use the power button, but i hate the placement of that button.
Is there a way to use the "menu" or any other bottom hardware button to wake the screen?
BUT i still want to have the lockscreen, so the app which is mentioned in the tricks section on this board isn't cutting it for me since it will deactivate the lockscreen in order to let you use other hardware buttons to wake the screen.
Any other solutions? Isn't there some kind of "hardware button mapper" available like on windows mobile devices?
Just got my Desire today, so I am actually curious about this also.

Yes, but only possible on rooted handsets, no?
Probably :/
damn, don't want to root my desire as i have heard of random bricks.
another question:
is there an app to lock the screen using a widget?
so after i'm done with the current action, i don't want to use the power button to lock the screen, but a widget or a shortcut.
Is there a widget available for that? Or even better a widget to turn of the screen?
I have Lockbot Pro installed and I can wake the screen with any of the buttons at the bottom. Pressing Menu then gives me an 'unlock' bar on the screen which I can press to unlock (or I can swipe the screen in the standard way). Allows you to unlock without pressing the power button at all.
thanks for the hint. the app looks quite nice, but it seems to be very slow.
When waking the screen it takes very long until the lockscreen is shown, and it always shows a different lockscreen?!
also is the an option in the pro version to define a key to lock the screen?
So i.e. i wake the screen using the center navigation pad button, can i define that pressig the button again should turn the screen off again?

[Q] [APP] Completely eliminate lockscreen?

Is there either an app to completely eliminate the lock screen?
I'm running CM and there is an option to unlock by pressing Power>Menu or through gestures but either way that's an additional step - just like my rotary unlock.
There's an app in Market called No Lock that does the same thing.
What I want is just press Power and I'm at the home screen. No 2nd buttons, no Menu button, no sliding, no gestures.
And since I know this question will come up, no I'm not concerned about dialing or anything else, capacitive buttons/screen, remember?
Plus I have a case that bevels over the Power and Volume buttons so... yeah...
Thanks!

Hey man, its already built into CM. One of the options for the Notification Power Widgets is to Toggle the Lockscreen. Just set Toggle Lockscreen as one of your widgets in the CM settings, and click it and you can completely turn your lockscreen on and off.

Wow, how'd I miss that..?
But I see it allows you to turn the phone on w/ the volume buttons too... That's not good b/c I usually switch tracks w/ the volume buttons when the phone is in my pocket or when I'm driving - especially when I'm driving.
Any way to only let the power button turn the phone on?

I'm sure that you know this as you are a much more senior member but unrevoked will take care of that for you.
I used 3 on mine with the same hardware and hboot and it worked like a charm.
there is an app called No Lock that will do this for you.

Ye.. I said in the OP that I know about No Lock. The problem with no lock is that, just like the CM no lock option, it allows the phone to be woken up by the volume buttons too. Something that's a major deal beaker for me.
SUPERSONIC via xda app
Auto Unlock. Only the power button wakes the phone. Sometimes, you will see the lock screen flash on before it's dismissed.

Touch Buttons

Is it just me or are the three bottom touch screen buttons finnicky not always responsive on the first click? Like when you're clicking it one of the touch buttons quickly, you have to wait a second then touch the button again for a response. Also your thumb has to be right on the button, can't touch corners etc.
Do you guys find you often have to repress one of the touch buttons on the bottom?
Nope. Maybe you're missing the button.

Yes - especially when it is in my car dock.
My HTC Evo 4G has some kind of issue where the screen would not register touch if you laid it on a table or something but it worked fine if you held it in your hand. They were able to fix this with a software update (I have no idea how).
The Nexus feels like the same kind of issue - the soft buttons work ok if I'm holding it but on the table they don't seem to register a push well.
i noticed this too,
BUT, i also noticed that you have to pretty much touch the actual icon itself.
i tried tapping in-between the keys and noticed that it didn't do anything.
so no worries man, noting is wrong with your phone.
fwiw i have a wet screen protector on, so that might attribute to it.

Same issue here, I'm wondering if they dialed down sensitivity too much to avoid accidental presses while typing? I think it should only reduce sensitivity while the keyboard is up, not always.
Hope they increase the sensitivity a bit
i've seen stuff like this on other phones like my Samsung Wave S8500, some areas of the touchscreen don't respond properly unless part of you is touching the phone case, probably caused by the way capacitive touchscreens work?

I just find the multi task button is a bit laggy, but this could be to do with redrawing the app images that's about it.

[Q] App: Soft power button on edge/ticker screen ?

I've had an opportunity to play with a display model of the Note Edge recently and ultimately decided to buy one. It'll arrive on Tuesday.
The one thing that I really disliked (coming from a Note2) - is the awkward placement of the Note Edge's power button. So I was wondering if there'd be a way to add a soft power button to the edge/ticker screen -
I found a couple of options to play with which I've linked below.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.kixx.tool.offwidget
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.suriv.suscreen
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.android.smartscreenonlite
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/wakeup-turns-on-your-screen-without-the-power-button/
That mostly addresses the 'off' part but 'on' looks relegated to being triggered by motion or the proximity sensor (because why would you want a 'screen on' app/button on any other phone - because the screen is... off).
I didn't play extensively with the Edge but if the edge/ticker screen is always on (or in a stand-by clock mode) then can someone make something that detects a swipe down and wakes the main screen? Or swipes to a shortcut that wakes the main screen?

Hey! Glad you decided to join us edge users! About your question I'm personally using screen off and lock. I've had no problems and its working beautifully. Got it on my list of apps on the edge and even with the edge on just using it to control my music i click the button for it to turn off the screen and it does just that. It has some nice features as far as animations which i like. As far as the other apps I haven't tried them yet. Hope this helps. Have a good day
easy to do, already sorta included..... with screen off swipe up/down(one motion, do not lift finger between) on the edge screen the edge clock will activate, then swipe from right to left to pull up the app shortcuts cocktail, tap any app in the list and it will wake the main screen and app will be launched and waiting behind lock screen

Oh, sweet. Thanks for this! I kept accidentally activating that and couldn't figure out what I was doing. Heh. I love this phone, I keep finding new things.
The easiest way around the poor power button placement is just to buy the official case so it turns on and off when you open and close the case. It really should of just came with the phone. They belong together. I bought it. It really is like a piece of the phone.

I use greenify. I long press the home button and it hibernates and turns off the screen. I've found it so much nicer than trying to mess with the power button location.

Screen off and lock has this capability add well.
I don't mind having the power button on top, it's the switched back button and last used buttons I still can't get used to. Oh and I don't like how the home key doesn't respond to the pen without press, fail.
Lately I've set GMD gesture control to double tap for screen off. Just have to blacklist a few apps (like calculator) and keyboard where a rapid set of taps will shut screen off when you are trying to do something else. Would be nice if there was a double tap to turn screen on! Some phones can do this. But, for now, I'm fine with just pressing home button for that.
