Cannot add ringtone - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an HTC One M8 (which I adore) and I've having small problem for which I'm seeking help. When I go to Settings>Sound & Notification>Ringtone I see a list of the system ringtones. I want to add my own but when I press the Plus (+) key nothing happens. I'm not presented with a file browser, message or even an error. It's very possible that something I've loaded on my phone or a process I've frozen is causing the problem but so far I can't track it down. If anyone has thought or opinion on this issue I sure would love to hear it.
Thank you!
Phone stats and info:
Model: HTC6525LVW
Android version: 5.0.1
HTC Sense version: 6.0
HTC SDK API level: 6.55
Carrier: Verizon
Rooted with Sunshine
No custom rom
Using Xposed Framework with the following modules: Deny Location Consent, Sense Toolbox, YouTube AdAway, YouTube Background Playback
Running AdAway
I've tweaked lots of things with Sense Toolbox and I've frozen a few processes with Titanium Backup mostly related to shutting down OTA updates.

Use the function of ,,Set as Ringtone" from Music Player. That will add the ringtone you want in the list.

Dude you are a genius. I tried to follow your instructions but I couldn't find an app called Music player. I looked around for a while and then figured I'd go check Titanium Backup. There is an app called Music which I had frozen. As soon as I unfroze it I was able to open my file using the app and then was able to set as ringer.
On a hunch I went back and checked the settings for ringers and now the + sign works again. It was the frozen Music app which was preventing the + from working.
Thank you sir!

Peep and its widgets should be safe too.

Friends Stream and News as well, I always uninstall those in custom roms that I flash.
I made some changes, and added some I'm questioning

Backup assistant should be safe to remove, as well as the clock widget.
Pretty much any app that isn't the phone or contacts apk should be safe, too, I think.
(actual apps. Don't delete stuff like CertInstaller.apk or whatever. But if it shows up in your app drawer, it's generally okay to get rid of.)
The only thing I'm not sure about is the visual voicemail. It may act funny with the messages app, since there's a slider for it.
Cdrom.iso really shouldnt be removed. It can cause issues with adb and mounting usb storage. You can dissable the annoying vzw installer by dialing ##program# and hitting call. Enter six zeros for the password. Then go to feature settings and tap on cd rom and dissable it. Hit the menu button and select comit changes. Your phone will reboot and the vzw installer nag wont be there the next time you connect to your pc.

Well i had issues with adb where i couldnt get it to see the phone. I tried everything i could think of and then i found a post somewhere here on xda about it. I put the cdrom.iso file back and adb started working fine again.

Weird. I removed the cdrom file and I can use adb with no problems. I guess it is one of those works for some and not for others issues.

I always remove ALL of the voice stuff, plus the sound recorder as well. One question I have wondered though is would I be able to remove friendstream before signing into Facebook and avoid the constant sync? Or is there some way around it?

I keep it myself, so I can't help with that. I just noted the cause and effect of it. I might mess with it a little later...

I can confirm that removing Friendstream BEFORE signing into a Facebook sync account does not start a constant sync.

Is there a preferred method for removing these apps?
Delete from system/app with root explorer or uninstall/freeze with titanium backup.

Does it matter if I delete them vs. move the APKs to another location? Would I ever need them again for anything?
Well they'll still be taking up space if you move them to another location on the phone, but they wont run or be in your app drawer. If you want to have them just in case, you could always move them to the SD card, then your computer? I can't think of any reason that you'd need them though, even if you wanted them at a later time, you could find them on the market or with a quick googling.
I just back them up and then uninstall them.
I've added Apps (VCast.apk) to the list.

You might want to add HtcLoggers.apk to the list, in light of the recently discovered security hole.

Nice.
If anyone has troubles installing it like I had because of the stock music.apk, use titanium backup to backup the stock apk, then uninstall it, reboot your phone and install the new apk.

Thnaks it was very useful post but how i should install Music Theme Template.zip because it is zip file should i change it to apk ????
Nice look and everything... But for some reason, mine stops/pauses song in between change or in the middle of the song. This happens randomly between 2-5 songs. Highly annoying.
I'm using CM9.
Last time I tried to install it through pushing inside system/apps/ and deleting the old music player and rebooting before using it crashed. it even crashed after wiping dalvik...can it be its because cm9 for sgs2 is experimental rom?
Hey, im on MIUI and everytime i go to install it says problem parsing package.. im guessing its not working for MIUI yet?

Same here on latest ICS for HTC Desire from here
Don't understand why they made the widgets with those blue titles... all white, just like in the stock ICS widget, was fine.
But overall it works gr8.

The unwanted pausing is a feature, not a bug!
Switch off the pausing when it thinks you flipped the phone around in the settings and you're good. Worked for me.

At first I thought that too but it's not the case in SGS2. It is a bug indeed and very annoying
It randomly starts up in my pockets like once a day and plays whatever song i was on last. Not sure if this is part of the flip/shake to play-pause thing and/or a widget issue.
Probably a combination of having the widget on and shaking my leg or somthing.
GN GSM stock + root
Was the 17 Jan one the latest version up?
Worked great for a few days then constant Music Has Stopped Working. Anyone else having this now? Using Hacksung Build 13 on my Captivate.
For people having trouble installing (remember this is for Ice Cream Sandwich - Android 4.x only) this worked for me:
- Use Titanium Backup to backup HTC Music then (*optional)
- On ROOTED phone use ES File Explorer (enable: 'Root Explorer' & 'Mount File System' first) to move HTC-Listen.apk, com.htc.MusicWidget.apk and HtcMusicEnhancer.apk to /mnt/sdcard/abckup/apps/ (if you want to restore should CM9 Music not suit/work) (*?optional?)
- Reboot phone (*?optional?)
- Copy downloaded CM9 Music.apk to phone (using preferred method)
- Use ES File Explorer to copy CM9 Music.apk to /system/app/
- Click on the CM9 Music.apk file to install (make sure you have enabled 'Unknown sources' in System > Security to allow install of non-market apps)
CM9 Music should now be available in main menu and add widget options
Enjoy!

[Edit] Mind you it is crashy (effects = f/c and seems to have now stopped working (re-install fixes), I also don't rememebr seeing the process 'DRM-Protected-Pontent Storage' running before either, and doubt it is there to help! Hmmm...more on DRM at hxxp://developer.android.com/reference/android/drm/package-summary.html thought it might have been removed on the ARHD 6.1.x ROM, still
installed it very nice looking but went back to stock music app as my bluetooth headset wouldnt control it i.e. pause, play, next, previous would not work with it.
The music app works great I installed it with musicfx for it and removed dsp manager and not had any issues except force closing on one song only that one song so I removed it and works great
After some more extensive testing, I found it to be pretty stable and very nice. A lot faster with my 12 GB of music than stock, but it sometimes when I open it while it's playing, the playback continues nicely, yet the application becomes unusable. That is, it hardly responds and after a couple of seconds it asks me to close it. When I reopen, it is fine again. That is kind of annoying, so for now I'll switch back to stock...would love to try a later release though...
Keep up the good work!
Looks great! Does it sync with Google Music?

how to delete stock music player (rooted)

how do i delete this pile of garbage? I rooted my phone but have yet to install a rom.
You can use titanium backup to unstall it.
ok, which brings me back to my original question, "how". I dont know what it is called or where its located.
and the damn thing just takes over while using my blue tooth headset to pause and play etc.
thanks you for the help.
tried ti bu 5 times and it still leaves it in there, now what?
use a file manager ( i prefer root explorer) go to system apps, find music / music player and delete it. i am pretty sure it will not return again. but it will be "gone" for good.
View attachment SdxAppRemoval-1.5.apk
for sure this works
sweet! that did the trick, thank you very much!!
the stock music player for most roms is just called "music." With TB, just go the app list, look for music, tap app, then tap uninstall, tap ok, tap ok. It'll be in your removed app list at the bottom. From there if you want, you can delete permanently.

Two questions

Hi Guys
1. Is there a way to remove unwanted apps from my apps in Google play?
2. Is there a mod to stop music being interrupted by notifications or the least by co-pilot gps?
1. There is two type of apps installed. First type is normal app, which you installed from Google Play or Manually. Second type is system app which come along with the phone, you can saw those on first boot. YOu can't uninstalled those, but you can disabled them through Settings >> Apps.
2. As what i knew, the answer is no. In common sense, a phone notification(sms..) is crucial than music playback.
Thx Man
Point 1 I know I just want to get rid off apps in my apps in Google play. You know apps that you installed to test and did not like or apps you do not use/can not use anymore like my old Motorola apps from very old android that are now part of os.
Point 2 odd excuse it is for me to decide not them. Other OS's out there (old or new) do not have that issue.

On a cm rom I used back on my xperia x8 music was lowered to play the notification and not cut out completely, so it can be done.

1. If your app comes from Google play, you can uninstall from setting->app and choose app that you want to uninstall
2. If your app comes within your ROM, you can install root explorer and then open choose system-> app from that folder choose apk that you want to uninstall after that reboot your phone to take the effect..
Note : for option 2 your phone must be rooted..

Sure it can be done, but for now no developers is providing this mod. As what i know this will need to tweak allow muxing channels. I remembered the ICS add some support for audio channels.
Regarding your first question (seeing as everyone seems to have misunderstood and is telling you how to remove apps from your device); no, I don't think there's any way to do that. The Play store always shows all apps you've ever installed and there doesn't seem to be any way to modify that behaviour (either on the device or on the web). I'm not sure of the logic behind not being able to edit that history.
Make a new google-account? No history anymore
And no purchased apps and no mail and no good solution.
2 silent mode should prevent notification from interrupting music
The new play update let's you remove from my apps section, it's floating around the forum somewhere I installed it earlier

How can I disable the stock EQ on my LG Q7+?

Hi Folks,
I have been trying to get some EQ apps to work on my phone but they seem to have no effect. Did a bit of reading around and it seems that they will not work as long as the stock EQ is running because only one EQ can be running at a time. I went to Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> App Info, three dots, Show System and there is an app in there called "Equalizer" but when I tap into it the "Disable" button is greyed out.
I have read in the forum about disabling "Music FX" and a couple of other methods but none apply to my phone. I am running Oreo 8.1. Is there a way without rooting (don't want to void my warrantee) that I can disable the stock EQ so that I can get these other ones to work?
Thanks in advance.
Best,
Ken

It is a system app and it can't be disabled. This phone cannot be rooted, so for any system modifications we're sol.
