Good, stable ROM - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking for a nice stable ROM compatible with jolla-kernel or having blue_active as a CPU governor. I'm currently using Paranoid Android, I used to use Lineage OS but the bugs that occurred were very big deals

Pure Nexus. That's the one I use. Oreo is still under development, but the 7.1.2 PN worked great with Jolla.

Hey, I used many roms for the N5X and the only one that is still smooth and with good battery life is Pure Nexus as my colleague mentions above ^.
Anyways, tomorrow is @argraur releasing new version of his PixelROM which I hope will be great
Regards

I've also tested many ROMs before I settled on PN. I used RR, DU, PR, and more than a few kernels. PN + ElementalX is my favorite (I know I need to update my sig, oh well).

I got really in love with RR, it has so many features and its smooth also, althought DU is/are quite similar with poor performance. PN + ElementalX worked for me the best, however i'll try out the new GooglePixel ROM based on Pixel 2 features :victory: :victory:

As of right now PN uses the July images, but my bootloader is on the August update. Are there any other stable ROMs?

Pure Nexus does look promising, but my problem is I have the bootloader for the August update. I guess I could have specified, but I would also like the ROM to be on the small side too so I have a lot of storage left. I'm a big tech person, so I'd also like to be able to root, and I'm worried about a lot of features. Stock Nougat had enough features for me

You can flash new bootloader but it's not necessary, it will work well even with older one . The PN rom is about 4gb as usual after installation and you can also root it afterwards... I don't understand your concerns probably

After flashing EX kernel, what app should I use to control it? I don't want to pay for a kernel manager. Is Kernel Adiutor good enough?

Kernel Auditor is one of the more popular ones, although I haven't used it in a long time since I switched to EXKM. Especially if you're using the Elementalx kernel, it's fantastic. Even if you're not, it still does a great job.
It's only one of the 3 apps I've ever bought, and I use it on all my phones/devices. I figured a $400 phone can justify a $4 app, amiright?

[OPINION] Getting a Pixel this week - Are you stock or custom? Which Rom?

So I'm getting a Pixel this week, and I don't feel like trying a bunch of different Rom's, but I can't pick one or decided if I want to go stock.
What Rom are you using? What is great about it? What Problems have you faced? Why did you choose it? (Also, What Kernel are you using? Stock/Custom?)
A few notes:
I will 100% be rooting/TWRP, so that's no concern, just not sure if I want to go stock or custom (and if custom, which Rom). Right now I'm leaning towards Pure Nexus, as the last OTA Update broke my phone. (My fault, I wanted to see what would happen if I accepted OTA update while rooted/twrp ), but I know with Custom Roms, that won't be an issue!
[UPDATE] I use AppRadio Unchained ReLoaded daily which means BT + HotSpot + Chromcast/ScreenCast + Music and Phone over BT + Tasker etc, so anybody who uses AppRadio Unchained, or the aformentioned things a lot, with stability, I would love to know what Rom you are on. I'm looking for stable AppRadio which has been hard to find with so many moving parts in the equation.
I can't tell you which rom is best, you'll receive lots of differing opinions on the same thing. Only way is to try yourself and find the one that fits you best as that's what these forums are about.
For the time you took to type that, you could at least share your choice and why, I didn't ask "what's best" I asked what did you choose and why did you choose it.

I run Pure Nexus as Beans does great work as I also ran his PN rom on my Nexus 6 and he is good at what he does. I also run the kernel Elemental x both are great together and super fast and buttery smooth. That is the only custom rom I have ever ran on my pixel xl as I never wanted to give up how great it runs to try anything else lol.
That's exactly what I'm leaning towards, hoping I don't have a reason to try anything else
Velocity with build in MVK kernel. Fast stable and the best battery usage for me.
Also a lot features I need to have and a lot I don't use
Did try most of the custom out there, but I am using velocity for about 5 years now starting with Nexus 4, so I always flash back to velocity.

I been using pure Nexus, I like it a lot. Just tried RR that one is good to. U just have to try one.
Nah I am using stock ROM, have basically no interest in trying out them custom ROMs, sometimes I do seek for a few features, but I pass. Stock ROM is stable as ****, smooth as **** too, just flash Franco and be done with it.
Running PureNexus here with ELX kernel and am enjoying it
I'm running invisibleks lineageos builds. The best for me!?
I was on same boat just got my pixel xl ROMs had BT problems decided to read and got pure nexus and elementalx and no BT issues at all fast and great battery with wakelocks disabled. Take my word for it
If you want aptX bluetooth capability then you must use a Lineage OS based ROM (formerly CyanogenMOD). I use Resurrection Remix because it's got the most customization options that I like to use.
If you want systemless root or rootless system (whatever it is) then that's not something I know much about but I think it's default in upcoming Lineage OS based ROM's too. Or already is. Whatever. If it sounds vaguely familiar and something you want then ask someone else. lol
If you want pure Android then go with an AOSP based ROM.
If you want Pixel stuff then stay with stock ROM.
Yeah, I know.
You would think a Pixel ROM is pure Android huh.
It is, kind of/mostly.

Pure nexus didn't has the Bluetooth problem because he is not on the latest update.
It's a Google problem on first connection. After the first fc all is fine.
Pure Nexus and Elemental from the get go. No issues. Both are great with no issues so far. Highly recommend.
PureNexus for me. Tried most Roms out there, but keep coming back to it. Buttery smooth, reliable, great battery and great support as a bonus.
Resurrection Remix for me.
Dirty Unicorns have some RC builds up at devs-base

Best stable ROM

I don't have time to test every single rom so I want to ask the people on here what they think is the most stable rom. I don't really care about features I just wanna know which one has the best battery life, less bugs etc.

Yes stock was ok but I am asking for the custom ROMs
I settled on SAOSP after many weeks of testing many different ROMs. Seems best to me, combined with EX kernel
ABC-Rom, no bugs, stock feeling:

paranoidandroid ROM is awesome!
PureNexus or PixelROM
You could also look at Carbon Rom or Tesla (other GZR Roms are available ) or AospExtended or Slim
Then you have the Lineage based ones such as crDroid
I prefer the ones which are true to the Nexus look rather than Pixel Wannabes. But that's the beauty of the old Nexus phones that it very much whatever floats your boat.
@tactical bacon: that's, why 'best rom'-threads are unwanted here. Finally you get a complete list of all settled ROM.
Features and base are given in each OP. Battery-life depends on your usage.
PureNexus. Great team, solid ROM, nice features, quick updates, and very helpful thread.

Recommend to me a good Oreo rom

Hey guys
I previously owned a Redmi Note 3 and flashed so many roms on that phone.
Now i just got a Redmi Note 5 Pro. Unlocked it. But currently I am very busy with assignments and don't have a lot of time.
So i can't keep flashing rom every few days.
Please recommend me a good Oreo rom. It should ideally not lag and have no random reboots. Basically I just want to flash and forget for a few months until Pie roms get very stable.
Thanks to all for their help.

Lineage OS 15.1 will be the best choice. Most stable & best battery life & no lag at all. Always go for lineage os official rom over others.

Bro listen! Lineage os is most widely used custom rom in the world. Your device has official lineage os 15.1. So you should flash it & see if you're happy with it. Only customizations not present in los. After that you can try any other rom you want.

"Bro listen" - This does not sound like suggestion, rather like a command. What is good for you does not really mean that it will be for someone else. For example, on devices I have used, RN5 included, pure AOSP roms performed better than Cyanogenmod/LineageOS ones. They have been smoother and better in battery life.
Just because something is official it doesn't translate to a better than everything else, MIUI is an official rom from Xiaomi yet some releases were a bug fest.
I've tried LOS/RR and than jumped to AOSiP Oreo, that's close to pure AOSP but with additional useful features and it has been more stable, smoother and more battery friendly than LOS/RR and overall performance was consistent. In combination with Insigniux/Derp kernel it's great.
I've seen reports of MSM as great one as well, so that can be considered as well.
Anyway you'll have to try different rom and kernel combinations to see what works for you.

Exactly.
Although I can understand why some newer members are just dazzled by the "official" tag especially in context of LOS.
I especially dislike LOS because of lack of so many useful features. Why should I need to use xposed and 10 modules to get those features when I have root and recovery and I can simply flash a feature rich aosp rom.

Ok. I apologise if i gave someone wrong suggestion. But i was telling from my experience as for me los official always works great with no single bug till now. What i've seen is people sometimes complain a lot about problems in other new roms. So i was saying in that way. Thanks for your suggestion. I'll flash aosip with derp kernel.
One question tho. I want an oreo rom with battery life similar to miui 9.6. can you suggest me that rom? Miui 9.6 is giving me 12 hrs & 13 minutes of screen on time. Thanks in advance.

No need to apologise to me, since your post wasn't directed to me. You didn't suggest anything wrong, but the way you suggested it was a bit wrong. Anyway, AOSiP is a clean rom with good features and a default Derp kernel is great for battery life, I have had up to 14h of SOT (that depends on usage of course) but as far as I remember it was never below 10h.

Keep it with the stock rom. That's the best for me. I was a flasholic until I bought Pixel XL.
Same.
I dabble a bit with the other Tom's here but always end up on stock with root and a kernel.
Pixel dust is nice though, so is lineage.... Well they are all nice, but I'd run stock for a while

Thanks! But when it come to kernels, which on should I use?
Bootleggers
My goto is KingKernel, with blackened mod. Many choices of governors, I/O schedulers, network TCP. Then you can decide which works for your needs. With a little practice, patience try them all
I must be the only one who keeps going back to Android O. I tried P three different times now. Each time I wipe my phone and start from scratch but still immediately notice worse battery life. Doesn't matter it I'm stock or on a ROM.. and then as soon as I go back to oreo it gets better. That said I'm probably gonna try PixelDust for Oreo I guess cause I am getting bored with stock
If you want an official custom rom with quick updates and a large community then go with Liquid Remix, they've been around forever for a reason and have roms for many devices.
If you want a rom that does NOT include any of googles apps (instead of Google Phone/Calculator/ETC you'll get base android ones) then go Lineage. It's a solid rom that packs just as much customization as the others but is unique in its own way.
If you want (imo) the best rom and can wait for updates patiently then go Pixel Dust rom. It's more akin to Liquid Remix than Lineage, doesn't update as often (monthly instead of a few times a month) but has a few features the other roms don't (custom launcher, a few unique setting options).
I myself haven't had much luck with bootleggers or benzo rom, so the above 3 are my goto's.

Still rocking Dirtyunicorn 12.3 aka 8.1 until DU pie comes out!Sean
I don't necessarily have the time to be flashing between various custom ROMs and seeing what works and all that nowadays, so I usually just stick to LineageOS and the kernel they include with that. There's an unofficial LOS 16 (Pie) ROM provided by a maintainer of LOS for this device that works relatively well in my experience.
Liquid is best for me. Lots of options no slow downs it reboots. It just works.

Does you device lag with LKT and King Kernel?
I was able to run it smooth only with Franco Kernel, but King kernel even on "performance" profile still lags horribly.
Im currently on ElementalX with feb security update, lkt not needed to hit 5+ sot
And yes phone was a bit laggy but since the pixel for me is so fast, i didn't really mind much

wich kernel do you use and why?

since im a flashaholic and like to try everything that is releasing in this forum.
i like to here your opinion what kernel your are using at the moment, in know there is a thread about this but there hasnt been writing in it since 15th november 2018.

Stock rom with stock kernel. What is the point to use custom kernel? My reason to use stock is updates and bank, google pay. I don't want wasting time with issues for unworking google pay or bank app.

Since I like custom ROMs because of customization, I'll stick with that. But yes stock is best!
