protected apps disappear on recent apps list - LineageOS Questions & Answers

im using lineageos 7.1.2
i noticed recently protected apps will vanish from recent list menu after opening. they used to sit there after opening until i closed them now they wont stay.

so learned lineageos changed how protected apps work now. anyway to get it back to how it was or a similar app to protect apps?
nobody uses protected apps huh?
weird. surprised no one else bringing this up.

Why do my apps keep disappearing from Market's "Downloads"?

This is a seriously, SERIOUSLY annoying problem I've discovered.
Sometimes when I open the "Downloads" section in Market my apps aren't there. Well, a few are but most aren't. And there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason behind which ones still show up vs the ones that are missing.
I don't switch ROMs - I run Fresh (currently the latest version).
The only way I can get them to reappear is to manually search for an app I already have installed and update it if an update is available. Then POOF all of my downloads are there.
Any idea what in the HECK could be going on here? This sucks because I can't see when an update is available unless I search for the app. It's driving me nuts
Try clearing the market data.

Thanks, that did it....still wonder what the heck the cause is though.
It may have something to do with running a custom rom, bit imo the Android market still has some bugs to work out.

It happens to me all the time. Cyanogen and I believe Ava-Froyo roms seem to download all of my 350+ apps that I have ever downloaded. Some roms only seem to "remember" or only allow me to download certain apps from the Market. I am thinking that if I don't have the option selected to download unauthorized apps from the Market, that could be one reason why. But, I have been wondering the same thing as the OP. Only a couple of the many, many roms I have used/tried will actually have "saved" all of the apps I have ever downloaded. It is a pain when it is a paid app that doesn't show up. I have to remember which ones I bought so I can re-download!
My issue wasn't the market data, but for some reason some roms when Apps are moved to the SD card it screws up what shows.
Try moving any apps on your SD card to your phone memory instead, then kill the market task and restart it
they should all show then
Same problem but with a twist
Not only do my apps keep disappearing from the market, but some apps won't aunthenticate with Googles license server, so I cannot use them! ARGH!

Screen Overlay Detected

If this is in the wrong thread then please move to correct one.
Has anyone else had issues with this... I'll call it problem, but by the way it behaves, it seems more like its a bug.
It has only been something I've seen on Marshmallow. Try to install an app, and its 50/50 whether or not you get "screen overlay detected"
Try to give an app permission, "screen overlay detected".
I should also point out that it isnt just restricted to HTC. My partners (now apparently ticking time bomb) s7 has also had the issue
You can disable as many screen overlays as you like, it still doesnt go away.
I've noticed now, too, that anytime a chat head from facebook messenger is on screen when I try to do something like install an app, it will spit out that problem until I close the chat head. Which was never an issue, ever, before.
Where has this thing come from and why is it even a problem for Android?
Those chat heads on the messenger as well as light filters, as e.g. CF.lumen, are always screen overlays. Those overlays could read out the whole screen, and thus as well what you're typing into banking apps or similar. Thus Google updated the privacy policy of their devices in Marshmallow, ending up in this specific error message. Sometimes it's enough to just turn the screen overlay of via settings > apps, regarding Apps like FB Messenger, CF.lumen, and the like, on other times and Apps you got to reboot the device after done so, or disable the overlay within the Apps settings as well, and seldomly you got to uninstall such an App to get the problem sorted for the time being. At least that's what I could find out searching the web.

It's so malicious apps don't replace the install button with something else (like an install button to install something else).
It's quite clever if you think about it.

In theory I would say it's clever. In practice, it doesn't distinguish between safe apps that are harmless and those that aren't.

How does the system know if an app is safe or not..?

Since Facebook messenger (and pretty much all my apps, most of which don't even have screen overlays but are in the list for it) was downloaded from Google play, I would imagine it isn't difficult to implement a system that flags it as safe.
If an app is installed via an apk, even if it is safe, I would understand more the need for concern. You never know, etc.

It would be difficult to implement a system like that. You never know which app is fake or real. Maybe it was a modified version of the app, you'll never know.
Either way, the feature is there and if you want to install an app just quickly turn off your overlay. Not exactly a big problem.

[APP] All in One Gestures

Really a great gestures app to mimic iOS gestures. I use the navigation gestures option because I could not deal with the navigation bar not matching my keyboard. The gestures work pretty well and I got used to them, but I did not like the Back option. Too many times trying to go back ended up with me opening recents or going home.
I really wanted a gesture to swipe the screen from left to right to go back and this app allows me to. Works great with a few customization options. It was removed from the playstore but the apk can still be sideloaded

Thanks for sharing. IMHO The OnePlus gestures are the best I've tried on any phone. The more options there are, the better off we are.
Thanks for sharing, I love the Swype from the left to go back feature
Hey Guys, if you wan't, you can also try an app called 'Fooview', which is available in playstore (No need Root access) and its amazing, you can set the swipe option from right to left for back in this app as well. it also comes with a browser, file manager, and allow to take screen short of any specified portion on your screen. It will also help to convert the 'letters' in an image to edit/copy. The main advantage is it work with very less battery drain and comes with small in size. this is one of the best app I have ever used. and I'm using this for the last 2 Years. Just try it, it is amazing.

Never mind, Ignore it. It will work perfectly.
I found both of these apps to be scetchy and not any good.
I rather sugest the app called Fluid Navigation Gesture on play store.
It gives you the Miui10 Navigations that work great without any overlay or stuff like that.

Yea, but this will work perfectly without giving the location permission. And this app is available in play-store, which is verified by the google, then will it be a malicious app ?

You'd be surprised but there are apps that are not checked more in-depth before being accepted on Play Store

There are many apps which get through the checks. Check the news, you'll find many articles about google removing app from the play store every now and then.
Even a seemingly trustworthy app can do a lot of harm. Even if the app is a bit sketchy its better to stay away from it.

I agree. I've tried damn near all the gesture apps but I keep going back to fooview. It's like 20 apps in one with an abundance of gesture options.

I find the navbar gestures severely lacking. Swipe from left or right edge up for back? On which planet? Ever tried this swipe on Chrome with a longish text loaded? All you get is a scroll back and not back. Or maybe I am misunderstanding the directions. How difficult is it to add a graphic to illustrate?

Work Profile not showing in Recent Apps

Hello, is anyone who is using a work profile, or Secure Folder to install separate copies of apps, able to see those apps in their Recent Apps?
When I view my Recent Apps, those apps dont appear. Does this happen to anyone else?

Just checked and the opened apps are visible in recent apps.
Though the Secure Folder app itself is not visible in Recent Apps.
If your phone is rooted or you have tripped your knox on Samsung phones, work profile apps will stop showing in Recents.

i don't have a note 10 but i have a similar issue... i have secure folder and also have a work profile (the last installed with Island)... my device is a s10 and its rooted. I have the same trouble since i rooted it but the strange thing is that recents shows apps in securefolder but not the apps in workspace
Also neither securefolder nor workspace allows screenshots
why can i have the SF apps showing in recents but no the ones in workprofile?

Question My P6P is spying me

I lately get A LOT of warnings that something is using microphone, during apps, and even in lockscreen.
I don't have the always on permission on any app.
Is it the same for you? How can I check the causes?

Uninstall Google Translate.
Have you tried going into settings privacy and then permissions manager and see what it says for microphone

Now playing, google assistant hotword, voice access, live caption, live transcribe, sound amplifier, sound notifications... there are so many features that use the microphone in the background. Are you absolutely sure that you deactivated ALL of them? And those are only the pre-installed Google Pixel features.
What kind of apps have you installed?
A post like that is not very helpful, there is simply not enough information. There can be a thousand reasons as to why the microphones get accessed in the background.
I had the same thing happening to me, then I was scrolling through Developer options one day and realized that the "Shared Data" option was highlighted, so I clicked ot and there were like 3 million "snippets" from Google translate in there. I never even OPENED the app since I got my phone. I uninstalled Google Translate and that option got greyed out. Check your developer options and see if that's highlighted.
Thanks guys, the only app that used mic in privacy settings is Google app...

I guess that's good since it makes it less likely that you've installed a rogue app.
I think Google has gotten better with privacy, and can still do considerably better, but your title is wrong and misleading.
As others have noted above, Google needs access to your mike to be able to provide a bunch of its features, like Assistant and Playing Now. You can turn these off if you don't want the mike on.
Google controls the OS, s if they really wanted to "spy" on you, they would not be throwing warnings...
Where's your faraday hat?
Google's business is spying on you.
Best tips:
Root your device, cut away any/all Google apps and services as well as other malware like Facebook and replace them with alternatives except the few you can't live without.
Install a tool like App Manager (from F-droid) and strictly set permissions for everything running on your device
Run LSPosed+Xprivacy modules (requires Riru) and block out unwanted access from both apps and system processes.
If you are worried about your privacy then i am not sure buying a google product is the best place to start to protect it if i am honest.
