Almost a year on and I upgraded to 4g with SD card. Awesome phone still.
Just added themer and these were templates I downloaded via the app. Pretty cool though. Top work to the creators.

Nova launcher and Flatro icons. I haven't figured out how to make the navigation bar transparent yet. The status bar is made transparent and KitKat icons used in place of the stock ones using gravitybox.

Scrap that, I've sorted the navigation bar transparency, there's a small glitch in gravitybox, the navigation bar won't go transparent until you have pulled down the notification bar once.

Dpi set to 240 and xposed framework app setting module fixed to make some apps display in tablet mode, like here in the settings app
also the home screen grid is 7x6 and perfectly comfortable to view.

Yes you do need root. Easiest way of doing it is by using an app like Texdroider DPI, available through the Play Store.

yes root is required, various apps then deal with full system dpi change ie- ROM TOOLBOX which has an array of tools and is suited to newer roms, some older apps mess up jelly bean build.prop and cause boot loop so take care with the app you use.
for more control over individual app dpi just install the XPOSED FRAMEWORK and once installed go through the list of available modules that are downloadable from the main xposed app and look for APP SETTINGS module, you get a much better level of control similar to the way paranoid android roms let you change individual apps.

This is what I did currently.
I modded the lockscreen, so that music widget is transparent and (more important) those annoying white grips at the side, when you turn on the screen, are gone.
The Launcher is Nova 2.3beta with semi-transparent navbar, plus I modded the SystemUI.apk for semi-transparent status bar and swapped Back/Recent buttons.
Widgets are Anton's Kalender Widget, Gotasks (with heavily modded app and transparent widget) and Eye in sky weather.
Setup of Nova is no-Dock and 7x5 grid. Background is FiveWallpapers from market with 4 different pictures for 4 homescreens.

Thanks a lot. I am a kind of a newbie with all those things. Im a bit scared of rooting my moto G ans loose my warranty. I've already done this with my nexus 10, but idk, i need tout try... Haha

I was playing around with several icon sets, but they never support ALL icons which looks odd, so I keep the default icons.

2. Rounded pixel icon.
3. FOR WEATHER enable location and refresh google now page.

Ya non suggested version not developed properly just downloaded suggested version apk and go to setting and turn off suggestions...

On My Moto G3 Stock grid 5x5 not works too.

Well custom rom users can use original pixel launcher as i said its for rootless phones stock one

How did you edit the grid size from 4*4 to 5*5 l.

The 5x5 or 4x4 grid is DPI-related and currently works functionally identical to the Pixel. If you want to change it, change your own DPI.

Working Pixel Launcher with Google Now

This developer made the pixels Launcher work aka the Launcher 3 from AOSP.
works great and it's being updated often and they even ported Android O features into it.

I'm using version 1.5 and it works flawlessly. A big plus is it does not need root access for it to work

This launcher does have 5 icons in both the dock and the drawer. It doesn't allow you to customize the color of the app launcher as far as I can tell. I'm happy with the default but if you want to change it, you might want to try this more customizable Pixel launcher: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/lawnchair-customizable-pixel-launcher-t3627137

Nova vs System Launcher. Which is clear winner?

I do say that the best launcher with customization is Ofcourse Nova launcher.
Nova launcher beta version is now Google companion supported. It will soon roll out for Stable Nova version.

Actually System Launcher takes more RAM than nova, both are good in their own features.

MIUI launcher also has live icons for Clock, Calendar and Weather app. Almost all the launchers have live Calendar option now but if I remember correctly, MIUI v6, v7 or maybe both also had seconds display along with hour and minute hands on the clock app icon. That looks pretty if you ask me

I've used Nova launcher before. It's nice. Lots of customization. However. I am using the default MIUI launcher now and I honestly don't miss Nova.

System Launcher

I am more stock admirer so nova hands down... I actually have only one page in nova and launching most apps with appdialer. I use launcher page mainly for some informational widgets and shortcuts

MIUI stock its very good and support a lot of beautiful themes. Pretty widget and Wallpapers but you can put apps icons by alphabetic order.

No way default launcher of mi can beat nova...ecen stock Android launcher is better than mi home launcher...After buying a mi phone the first thing I did was to install Nova launcher.
And for the second choise use Buzz launcher

I use this Lock widget in MIUI launcher on every screen, quite handy if you ask me.

I liked Nova Launcher but i like simplicity of Evie Launcher. It has double tap lock and supports different icon packs available on playstore. Give it a try. One more thing is its Free and Ad Free. Enjoy.

I like Nova launcher for the fact you can edit truncated app names, and scroll the dock plus other things. The ONE thing MIUI launcher has in its favor is the Quick Function Widget has a toggle that will turn Mobile data on and off directly without going thru the settings. Thats a big plus for me, but you cant edit app names, or scroll the dock Its a real shame that you cant directly toggle mobile data on and off with nova or power toggle, like you can do with Native MIUI launcher

ROM: Atomic OS 1.5 (7.1.2) - Substratum support for themes (UI skins and custom fonts) and Moto gestures (just like stock ROM)
Substratum Theme: Valerie (from Google Play Store for about £1.50) with glass backgrounds enabled and set to purple for transparent notification bar and settings menus
