Bell Stock Recovery - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hi All,
I thought I had a copy of the stock recovery backed up with my TWRP backup, but it turns out it's just the first version of TWRP I installed. Is there anyone that has this recovery? I'm with Bell Canada and my CID is BM_001.
I would like to revert to stock to update.
Thanks in advance for the help.

What's your current software version?
I think I remember @xunholyx having links to the Bell RUU, from which you could extract the stock recovery.

Hi,
I reverted everything to stock. Download mode shows OS 1.90.666.4. I am also S-On, if that matters.
Thanks for your help.

This may help, search for any 1.90 stock recovery. They all should in theory be the same. So a 1.90.401 will probably do it's job just fine. Usually (and also back in the old days) they didn't create all different recoveries for the different regions.
This is helpful to get your hands on a recovery easier. Just try, it won't do harm in any way.
Cheers

I think I have it uploaded to androidfilehost.com, but the site seems to be down right now so I can't check. The RUU.zip that I would have on there would be 2.41.666.3, so @AbsoluteZero could just run that (when AFH is back up) and check for updates after (I'm not sure what the current Bell version is).
Go to https://www.androidfilehost.com/ and search for xunholyx, then select HTC 10 and the RUU.zip for Bell should be in there I think
EDIT: I got into AFH now. Here is the Bell 2.41.666.3 RUU.zip

I couldn't really find a reliable source for 1.90 Recoveries. I'm going to try your method as soon as I'm home @xunholyx and I'll post here how I make out. Are you saying to push that recovery and check for OTA's after or push the whole system?
Thanks again for your help.

I don't think that recovery version will work with 1.90
Do a backup in TWRP (the RUU will wipe your phone) and flash the RUU in fastboot or with the SD card method
Then check in settings > about > software updates to see if you are offered an OTA update

Thank you for your help. That worked perfectly. I'm going to do a backup an reroot everything now that I'm on 2.** it should be easier to install the rom's I want.
Thanks again for your help.

@xunholyx Can you somehow add that RUU to this sticky https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/stock-stock-collection-recovery-ruu-ota-t3359297 . Just in case anyone else has the same issue?

Firewater doesn't work anymore. HTC patched the exploit.
You'll have to use SunShine S-Off. It costs $25, but is guaranteed to work or you don't pay.
Having S-Off is totally worth $25 IMO.
Here's a link to their website.

Go to this thread. It has a collection of stock backups you can falsh to get back your stock ROM.
It also has a collection of stock recoveries to flash with ADB if you need that.
All the instructions are there.

Firmware is something separate. That link will get you back to stock ROM. Then use Sunshine to s off. After that, you can update your firmware.

The stock recoveries or in that link too. I'm not sure if you need them for sunshine though. Try with custom recovery, if that doesn't work, get a stock recovery.
Or get both ROM and recovery stock, then reflash a custom recovery and ROM.
If you get both to stock, you shouldn't have any issues.

Firmware updates. If you have one fresh out of the box, Firewater would probably still work. And still does for some.

First, I misunderstood your earlier question. Yes the number in front of the backups are for firmware.
To help you more, I'll need some information. Hook up your phone to your computer and start ADB. Then issue these commands:
adb reboot fastboot (wait till your phone boots into fastboot)
fastboot getvar all
Then post what the readout says here, but edit out your serial number (serialno) and IMEI for your own safety.
Then I'll be able to give you a little more guidance.

Your CID is ORANG202 and your firmware is 1.54.73.5, so you will need the backup that corresponds with that.
The backup available was made with TWRP recovery. So you'll need that. (In my opinion, TWRP is a better recovery, less issues)
You could go to their website to download it and get instructions on how to flash it, but there is a much easier way.
Go to the Play Store and install an app called TWRP Manager. Hit the three line menu thingy on the top left, and pick "Install TWRP".
After that go back to the stock backup thread and flash the backup that matches your CID and firmware.

My friend has made a comprehensive guide on firmware and firmware flashing, complete with downloads. Make sure to read the whole opening post so you understand everything. It looks like it might be hard because of his full explanation of the whole process, but it's actually very easy. And very informative.

[Q] Need help returning to stock on my hon kong htc one m8

So I purchased the phone from somone, but the person who sold the phone to me also had a previous owner who rooted the phone and installed a rom. So as I deleted all the files for the person, something must have happened because ever since then, the wifi is not responding. It cannot search any routers nor does it turn on. So I am trying to return the phone to stock condition, but the process was a bit too hard for me to understand. Can someone explain it a bit easy for someone who does not know a lot about HTC devices and rooting?
So far, when I enter recovery mode, I get
Tampered Unlocked M8UL PVT SHIP S-OFF CID-HTC_622 HBOOT-3.16.0.0000 RADIO-1.16.21331831.A16G OpenDSP-v38.2.2-00542-M8974.0311 OS- eMMC-boot 2048MB May 20 2014
I think I wiped the recovery program(TWRP) or something because all I get is a red triangle with an exclamation point. I had done the getvar but I did not get any info in the main version part. So far I have installed the Maximus HD 9.0.0 rom. The radio is fine. Text, phone call, data all seems to work, but the only thing that is not working is the wifi. What steps should I take to return the phone to stock so that I don't have to worry about rooting and stock roms? As always, thanks for the feedback everybody! I had so much help from you guys!

Your wifi isn't working because you are running a 4.4.4 ROM with 4.4.2 firmware. Look for a 4.4.2 based ROM, or update your firmware.
You can download the last(newest) 4.4.2 based Maximus HD ROM from here.

So is it possible to get a rom with a 4.4.2 and get an OTA from that ROM to a 4.4.4? Or does that not work. And also, I think I may have wiped the Recovery Program(TWRP?) and I think I need to install that again. Thanks for the help.

You will never get an OTA on a custom ROM. The problem is your model (Hong Kong). I'm not sure if you will be able to find stock backups or an RUU to return to stock to take the OTAs.
Hook up the phone to your PC, start up ADB/fastboot, and issue the command fastboot getvar all and post the readout here. I'll see if I can find something for you to return to stock. Edit out the serial no and IMEI from the readout for your own security.

Thanks for the help, but the only problem that I have with the RUU and the stock backup is that I am confused on how to install them. Can you help me with distinguishing between them? I saw that when you want your m8 stock Google, you need to have some sort of Google RUU but that is as far as I know regarding RUU and Stock backups.

The RUUs aren't from Google, they are from HTC. I'm not sure if you'll find one for the Hong Kong model or not. The same applies for returning to stock using the stock ROM and recovery backups that are available here. You could also update your firmware manually since you are S-Off, but until I see a getvar, I can't point you in the right direction.

Okay. The link I provided in my last post has a stock backup for you. Choose the ones from CID HTC_622. You will need the one for 1.60.708.2 and the TWRP version for it installed in your phone. Put it into your backup folder and flash it. (full instructions are on that thread) Then you will need to flash the stock recovery from that thread. I couldn't find one to match. You might have to look elsewhere. You will be able to get the OTAs after that.
Or you could change to SuperCID (lots of instructions for that on XDA) and change your MID (Model ID, also lots of instructions here ~ change to 0P6B10000), then update manually with WWE firmware. You may be able to run WWE without changing your MID, but I can't confirm that. My MID is 0P6B12000, and I was able to flash international WWE firmware myself. Hope this helps.

Hi! After some searching, I have found the file, but I am not really sure on what to do. The link that you provided me really did not explain a lot. I am a bit confused on the part where I got the zip, but don't know really what to do. I got the zip that you wanted me, the HTC 622 one with the 1.6.0XXX and you told me to put it in a recovery folder(?). Do I have to put it in there or is it something I can flash right off my sd card? Is the zip something that I put in the TWRP folder? I really tried to google it, but all I get is how I can use RUU on H BOOT to install TWRP or something. Thanks for the help.
Edit 1. Sorry, I forgot to mention the zip! The stock nandroid backups. I got that, but the recovery that you mentioned, I really got lost trying to look for it. Is it possible to just flash the nandroid backup without the boot loader locked but S-off with the TWRP and get the stock ROM?

Okay. So I did a little research and came up with an official HTC RUU for your phone. As far as I know, it is the latest for the Hong Kong version (4.4.3). I say as far as I know because I don't deal with HK versions very often here.
Hook up to your PC and get into ADB/fastboot.
Download the official RUU from HTC's website by clicking here.
When the download is finished, double click it and choose run, (it's an .exe formatted file) then follow the prompts.
But please relize that running the RUU will WIPE EVERYTHING, so backup anything that you have that you don't want to lose.

[Q] On custom ROM but want to go back to stock?

Hey everyone,
So here's what I've done on my phone:
Unlocked Bootloader
Installed TWRP
Rooted
Flashed custom ROM with kernel (specifically SkyDragon with its kernel)
I am still S-ON
Now I want to go back to stock. I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2696147
Can I just follow the steps (unzip the file, put it in the folder, and use restore in TWRP) and then go back to stock (with the root the OP said)?
Thanks

Yes.
What version did you have before putting custom ROM on? Was it 1.58 or 2.x?
If it was 1.58.502.1 you can also run the RUU for AT&T
But even if it's 2.x you can still restore the 1.58 and restore it, put on a stock recovery and let the OTA's roll :good:

But even if it's 2.x you can still restore the 1.58 and restore it, put on a stock recovery and let the OTA's roll :good:

Not really sure.... Right now I'm figuring out how to get the folder onto my internal sd card.. only problem is I can't even boot into the phone. I can sideload it but it'll be a zip and I can't seem to figure out how to unzip in TWRP....

Depending on why you are wanting to return to stock, you might consider that the Developer Edition phone is the same model as the AT&T phone - only the CID are different (MID is the same). I'm an AT&T customer and I've been running the Developer Edition software since about day 3 (I waited to make sure the phone was okay) and I have had zero problems with it. The only thing I sorta miss is Visual Voicemail, but otherwise I've been happier than a clam.
You do have to S-off to switch the CID if you want OTA updates, but a nandroid backup would probably work fine as well.

You can mount the partitions in recovery though, so you should still be able to see it when connected to PC then you can just copy it over that way.

Yeah, I would have suggested that as well but he's S-ON so...
It'll be much better to go Developer Edition, like you said model is the same, shouldn't have problems with radio etc and you'll definitely get updates at a much faster rate than sticking with AT&T. Seems they still use the Telegram to push OTA's which is why 4.4.4 is months behind.

Which partition would I mount? It only lets me mount Data, System, and one other thing but none of those make it discoverable in my computer. I just reflashed the ROM and am hoping it doesn't crash before I finish copying the file *fingers crossed*
I would have liked to S-OFF if possible but not sure anymore about that seeing how the only way is through sunshine :c
Back to stock thanks so much !

Telegram? Are you kidding? Somewhere out there is a pony with a thumbdrive on his back racing towards Taiwan.
Can't get back to stock.

Grab your CID nandroid from link provided, unpack it into TWRP/Philz backup folder, restore. Flash back stock recovery if you prefer(a MUST if you want to do OTAs)

Big Boy Marky,
I have a similar problem. I had Insert Coin ROM installed. My Microphone is not working, so I want to send it back because the M8 is still under warranty. I flashed with the stock RUU, but the bootloader had re-locked. I unlocked bootloader again to root the phone in order to get the bootloader back to "Locked State." While rooting I crashed into a wall while installing superuser and I can't get binaries installed in order to be rooted. I have a HTC one M8 At&T Harmon Kardon Edition. Anything I can do to get it back to factory stock?
Thanks,
Teknokill

[Q] Stock Recovery needed for M8 CID T-MOB003

Hi,
I have been reading a lot of posts to find the stock recovery version for my HTC One M8. My CID is T-MOB003 and I have the stock ROM (Software nr. x.xx.114.x)still running but I can't find my stock recovery - must have misplaced it after the back-up - so I can do the update to Android 5.0. I have already looked here for it but no solution.
Is there anyone who can help me with a stock recovery for my device?
Greetings,
JHS

when you get prompted for the ota you download it but NOT install it. take the ota.zip from the internal memory and take out the firmware.zip, in that zip is the recovery.img.
flash that recovery.img and then perform the ota.....done :good:

Damn that was the help I needed!! Really great gonna try this when I get home!
After searching for months myself, I came to the conclusion that nobody has ever made a backup of their original recovery. (the T-MOB003 that is)
Since I had the same problem, and I know it sounds like bull**** but you need to get s-off to get firmware updates since you do not have the original recovery anymore.
The only way of fixing this that I know is theroot.ninja (SunShine S-Off Tool)
Yes it does costs some money, but you'll be happy with it for years.
It changes your CID to 111111 so you can flash whatever firmware you want and then you should be good to go!

No need at all for all of that. The method described above to get the stock recovery works flawlessly, if of course the system is 100% stock too !
And as additional info :
My experience on the one x was that all recoveries starting with the same base number are the same

As usual... when it comes to T-MOB003, people so secretive to write full version.
They prefer x.xx.114.x ... and until today there is no backup for x.xx.114.x on the backup thread

Must say I didn't do it intentionally but saw most people do it so followed it. But you mean an nandroid back-up specific? I can post the recovery image if anyone is interested.

Recovery is not a problem .. simply extract out from OTA zip before proceed with OTA installation.
Nandroid backup is a problem especially the lower version 1.57.114.2 for hboot 3.16.00000 and 2.23.114.3 for hboot 3.18.0000 - many users are stuck at these two versions because no one willing to share them.

Lucky you. I've started adding some Stock files for the Australian SKU 710 since yesterday. A backup with the corresponding Stock Recovery included for your version should be available in around 2 or 3 hours. The instructions are already in my google sheet (link can be found in my signature). I will add the direct link to the sheet as soon as the file is uploaded.
Edit: Silly me. I forgot to explain that unrooting and flashing the Stock recovery is not enough if you want to install OTAs on the M9. When you flash anything via TWRP your system gets mounted as read/write. OTAs can only be installed if the system is mounted as read-only. You can only recover that status correctly by restoring a completely Stock Backup or flashing a RUU. In your case there is no RUU you could use as far as I know. That's why I was talking about the Backup I'm uploading at the moment.
Thank you so much!!

No you don't need S-OFF. That's the reason why I started my collection.
Edit: The download link has been added to the google sheet.

I don't use CM and most of the Sense roms are based on the WWE firmware (HIMA_UHL) so I'm not completely sure. But I guess flashing should be fine. The OP of the CM 12.1 thread states the following:
Compatibility:
This build has been tested and is for the Global/AT&T/T-Mobile versions. Verizon and Sprint versions will come soon.
The build is based off the HTC's Android 5.1 firmware, binaries and kernel.
