When unlocking the bootloader, is there a way to correctly format the SD card on a pc without a second android device?
My issue is that I no longer have access to the tablet that I used initially to format the SD card after unlocking the bootloader. So I cannot use the card in my phone without getting stuck in a bootloop
Try USB live-Ubuntu or Linux Live usb.
I pop the little card into a SD adapter and use my PC. I then format it using SD Formatter. https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/
It works like a charm and fixes the size problems as well after the bootloader backup. I've used it dozens of times and it never fails.

Hi can any one help i tried to install the desire hd rom, the instructions suggested partitioning sd card before installing the rom
which i tried to do using Mini tool partition wizard unfortunetly after wiping partition and the creating new partion my sd card would not mount as i wasnt sure if i should have formated the sd card at this point as that option was still available. but the instructions didnt mention wether i should have formated after creating new partition.
So anyway to cut a long story short i switched the phone of instead, hoping that when i restarted it i would be able to mount the sd card. But now i had a new problem my phone now would not detect my sd card altogether
Does any one know how i can make my sd card detectable again or will i need to fork out for a new sd card
Have you tried it in another device, say a PC card reader?
Had the same issue. Everything worked fine after formatting the SD card with Gparted. What I did wrong is that I made 3 EXT4 partitions for Data2SD and the computer didn't recognize the card. Used Recovery to mount the card and Gparted to repartition it. Everything worked fine afterwards.
yes sort of tried my friends sd card in my desire and it detected it so its definetly the my sd card that faulty
thanks for replying to my message i tried mounting the sd card in recovery using recovery manager but my phone wont mount it as it not detecting the sdcard do you think i might have better luck with gparted and if so do you have a link where i might be abe to down load it.
Ok. Here is the scenario. Was on stock rooted LCJ. SD card working perfectly there. I flash to MIUI after doing a totally clean wipe and I'm able to access the SD card via the rom and PC when I sync. I go into recovery and do a full wipe and then flash CM10 with gapps. CM10 loads up okay but i notice that i have a notification that the SD card is broken and I should try formatting it. I attempt to sync the phone to the pc via USB cable but only the internal storage will mount.
I go into recovery and confirm that TWRP can still see the contents of the SD card. Having confirmed that TWRP can see the SD card I do another full wipe and then restore my stock rooted LJC. However, after restoring LJC the SD card issue persist. The phone does an error check but it doesn't fix the issue. It recommends that I format the SD card which I don't want to do and don't know if it will work. I attempt to sync the phone to the PC with the USB cable (which has always worked) but only internal will mount. Go into recovery and the SD card's contents are still showing up.
Also, I have a Kingston Media reader which I pop the SD card into and connect to the PC. Even using this media reader the SD card is still not being seen and the PC says the card should be formatted. Basically the only damn thing that recognizes stuff on the SD card is TWRP.
Anyone have any good advice on this topic? BTW...I have a class 10 64GB sd card. As mentioned above I never ever had a problem with this thing. Have always mounted it to the PC w/o a problem and has always appeared on every rom I have ever tried until trying CM10 today.
41 views and not one person has any input? guess i'm going to have to format the card and hope that works. really sucks balls. wish i at least knew for sure what caused this problem.
had the exact same issue. I had just purchased a sandisk 64 gig the week before and when it happened I had a hard time believing it was the card that went bad. I had no luck recovering anything off of the card but did format it and it has worked fine since.

its not the card...............its the formatting of the card. it has to be formatted fat32 for it to be recognized in cm10. stock format is exFAT
I had the same issue with my SanDisk 64 GB drive. I went back to Synergy and the card is recognized in that ROM. I can't get CWM or TWRP to recognize the card though. I get an error whenever I try to access the card from recovery. It sucks that I have to put anything I want to flash on internal memory
Hi,
I've got a problem after flashing CyanogenMod on my HTC Desire. It all works perfectly, accept for an error that occured, that my SD card is damaged. Frankly in recovery mode there is no problem, also in Explorer on my PC I can see the SD card without a problem.
Also I tried formatting the SD card in a card reader via my computer to FAT32. Again without succes...
I also tried using a different SD card (2gb instead of 8gb),which works perfectly too.
Has anyone any idea on what the cause of the problem is and what to do?

i was using adopted storage on R.remix marshmallow. i wanted to convert it back to usual storage i tried the usual way through settings and phone rebooted in the middle of doing that process and now the phone doesn't recognize the sd card. i tried formatting though PC and phone, changing to internal adopted storage/external back and forth. even wiped cache, data of phone via twrp. i currently only have the micro sd card with me. how can i make it like a normal sd card?
i dont have any linux to try some of the methods i found. i need a windows solution. thanks
I'm having a problem with this brand new 32GB kingston canvas select micro sd card. Bought it for my dad, he's using a 100% stock G5. When first plugged in, the phone asked if the card was going to be used for internal or external storage, chose internal because my dad is kind of an app maniac (yeah, I know, tried to get him to stop but he's stubborn), formatting stopped at 30% for 10 minutes. Rebooted the phone, it stopped recognizing the sd card. Tried it on my phone, which is also using a 32GB kingston sd, and it didn't recognize it either, on the PC it works fine. Tried formatting it to every file system known to man and none of the phones will even know there's an sd card plugged in when using that particular sd card, but both will work fine with other cards. Could someone give me a hand with this?
I would use minitool (windows) or gparted (Linux)
Delete all partitions on sdcard
Create a new fat32 primary partition and format it

Other than factory resetting the phone or trying a different sd card there's nothing else you can do
