I ordered a Pixel C literally 24h before the Pixelbook leaks started showing. I'm wondering if I should return the Pixel C when it arrives and go for the Pixelbook instead. Love the design but the C doesn't look bad either. I will be using it in tablet mode 90% of the time (media consumption), but I ordered the keyboard with it for some light typing. Don't care much about costs as long as it stays well below 2000€, but still the C sets me back around 650€ (which is still quite a bit for a two year old tablet) where as the PB will probably come in at around twice as much. Looking at my use case the Pixelbook seems overkill. Any advice?

PS Love the Google design language. Its everything Apple should and could have been.

Hi everyone! In the last few years ive owned a wealth of high end Android tablets. Id like to share my experience of my newest buy, the Nokia N1.
Why i bought the N1
For reading... Ive longed for years to read on a 4:3 aspect ratio Android tablet. Traditionally the media formats playable on Android were what justified the common 16:9 aspect and, apart from the newest 16:10 kindles and a few forgotten gems (the Galaxy Tab 7.7 was a gorgeous device), there werent any about outside some low quality OEM things from china.
As soon as the Nexus 9 came out i ordered one from the states. It is a great device to lug around for multitasking, with all of my many emails and chat apps syncing away the battery, but i would still not get on a plane without my Kindle HDX, which will typically only need a charge once a week if youre just reading on it. But though it has a superb 1920x1200 screen, thats still an uncomfortable 16:10.
Enter the N1 with its 4:3 aspect ratio, high dpi, great engineering and solid OEM.
The build
The build quality is excellent - the buttons are easy to press, the aluminium shell is durable and without flex, theres no gap between the chassis and display assembly to collect dust (like on the Nexus).
The display
Its a good IPS panel with excellent viewing angles. But it is not an excellent display. The entire bottom edge has a very even light bleed. A problem that ive usually come to expect from cheap devices like the Nexus 5 (which is why i was outraged that the $700 Nexus 9 i got was afflicted with along all but the bottom edge).
Using it outdoors is hard as it is not very bright. Indoors and at night though color temperature and reproduction are excellent. Not a problem for me.
Sound
The speakers are pretty crap - theyre dual mono speakers pumping out of one side (the bottom). Easily covered up if youre listening to a podcast and have the device in portrait mode. Couldve done a lot better here.
Ergonomics
The device fits well in one hand in both orientations, theres no discomfort as the device is light.
General foibles
My biggest gripe is the rediculous decision to use a USB type C cable. What in the world were they thinking? Sure i can get cables from alibaba for a few bucks, but why should i when my house is flooded with micro usbs, when every barman has a spare one i can plug into on the go? ZORG. The Type Cs only advantage is that its reversible (can be plugged in any orientation). This particular imlplementation of Type C is also USB 2.0, rather than the standard 3.1. And the cables are hard to find unless you order from abroad.
Got mine today. It's stereo and not dual mono. Tested using this video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bJ0dvAl98k
Interesting! It's obviously stereo!

Perhaps they were thinking of the future. Type C is being rapidly adopted and prices and availability of cables are not really a problem. There are other advantage to Type C besides being reversible, such as the small size lets the tablet be thinner. If the tablet misses out on the advantages of faster charging, that's disappointing...

On second thought youre right - turns out the podcasts id been listening were mono! Thanks for the correction.

Using Ampere with the screen set to its lowest i get a reading of 1030 ma maximum from a 2.1 amp charger... On my nexus 9 from the same charger and fast charge enabled i get 1260 ma. Not sure what this means, but its still quite high. The tablet charges in an hour and a bit i think, and sometimes the measurement interface is wrong...

Interesting. You would think it would charge at near 2 amps. Using the charger provided with the N1, it took over 2 hours for me to charge from 10% to 95%.

Definitely charges within an hour, hour and half so has quick charge of somesort. I think probably its because the battery capacity is lower (5300 on n1 and 6700 on n9) and because of the measurement interface. It is after all 3c, maybe neither android nor ampere reports properly.

Trying to reconcile your results and my results... maybe the charger provided with the tablet is bargain model, and not a quick charge or fast charge. Can you indicate your model of charger? I probably won't get a special purpose charger for the N1, but I would like to optimize charging from a USB port on my desktop computer?
I've tried this in the past with micro USB devices, it wouldn't work and I was told it couldn't. I know that you can do this with computers that are equipped with type C but I cant find any info about doing this with type C phones. Please help! This feature would be extremely useful to me but I don't want to buy a powered USB hub and then find out it doesn't work and end up wasting time and money.
I imagine it should be possible as long as your dongle supports pass through charging. My Pixel C and LG G5 both support data from a flash drive and charging at the same time.
I'm excited to see if it really works too. From what i read, the crucial spec is that the charger, hub, and phone all support USB-C PD (power delivery). I bought the Pluggable brand hub Google's Benson suggested to me on Google+.
Edit. I linked them here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=69031534
Did that hub work on the Pixel XL? I would also like to charge my phone while casting it's screen with an attached dongle via usb for a remote. This way I can watch things like amazon video on my chromecast via my phone screen. I tried it on my Nexus 6P and could never get it to work.
Yes, the hub works to charge and connect a usb sound card at the same time on my pixel xl. I don't think the 6p had full USBC-pd support like the pixel added.

Thanks, I returned my Pixel XL after a few days even though I thought the phone was great. I just couldn't deal with the smaller screen and the single bottom speaker after being spoiled by the 6P. Good to know that it works since my wife will be getting one. She's not as picky as I am. Just to confirm, is this the usb-c hub you used? https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Sup...01D401PYW/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

yes, that's the one!
My Pixel XL would change with older USB ports and my portable battery. It would show that it was slow charging but it would charge.
The Pixel 2 XL shows a charging icon (nothing about being slow) but it will not charge the battery. Hours later the battery percentage actually goes down a little.
Only charging from the wall seems to work.
seeing this with chargers that are 1A and lower - haven't tested between 1A and 2A yet
3A and above (stock charger) is fine

Well I’m testing it out with two Pixel 2 XLs this morning because of staining issue on the first one and the dead touch edge this which I guess will be fixed in an update but they sent me a new one anyway.
So:
The new Pixel 2 XL has less stain marks on the white back.
The screen still turns blue as I ever so slightly tilt it but screen is whiter when dead on as the old one is a little peach-ish. That is with both screens at the same brightness and with the same color profile.
The new Pixel 2 XL is also charging with the same portable Duracell charger that the old one can’t use. Even over night with the charging icon on the old Pixel 2 XL would not charge and the Duracell charger would still showed full like nothing happened.
I’d just get my money back if they did not have my (in perfect condition) Pixel XL for trade in that they still have not processed yet and I can’t wait to see if I’m one of the ones they try rob by saying it was not reset or not as described etc.
Got this from good old off-shore support.
Furthermore, please note that it's recommended to use the original charger that was supplied with the phone for best results. Also, the 3rd party chargers may cause damages to your device.
The USB cables and chargers seem ok. They all work with my Nexus and Pixel XL and they work with the replacement Pixel 2 XL. I was just wondering if that was yet another known issue?
I’ll be sending the older Pixel 2 XL back as soon as I move everything over to the new one. While they both have poor touch sensitivity at the edge of the screen at least the new one will charge from low amp USB ports. As Google has my old Pixel XL I don’t have an option.
Will the poor touch response at the edges be fixed in firmware? Some on-line are saying it will be but I just got the 8.1 update and its still hard to use keys and buttons at the very edge of the screen.
I kinda wish I could just get my old Pixel (1) XL back. Google and LG really let us down this time.
I noticed this when I tried to charge my Pixel 2XL in my car using a micro USB to C adapter, which worked fine with my Nexus 6P. However, using a USB C to A works fine. Doesn't charge quite as fast as using original, but it's pretty good. Same with my portable charger. Luckily I won't have to use it often, but now I know I can, without having to buy a new charger.
can we get this to XDA or AP so this can be investigated properly?
if we can't use any old portable battery chargers or plug into our auto via USB and charge this is a serious issue
Hey y'all, so I got my Pixel 2 XL about 2 months ago. Just today though, my charging cable (Type c - Type c) isn't working anymore. What's weird though is that it seems to work but either a hit or miss with my sister's OG Pixel wall outlet and when I try mines, it doesn't work at all but if I use her cable on my wall outlet, it works fine? Pretty much her cable works on both but mines would only work on hers but sometimes. I'm kind of hoping I could contact Google and have them send me a new one. What are your thoughts? Should I contact them about it and see if I'm lucky enough to have them send over a cable. If not, would someone help suggesting an aftermarket charger that works fine with these phones. I've been on Amazon but hesitate on getting some due to mixed reviews. I hate how these chargers are becoming more strict in requirements.

I was wondering if it's possible to get the original accessories that come in the box from Google support or something? Got a pixel 3 xl for a good price but it came with none of those

I just bought the original charger from Groupon. They had a great price ($15). Not sure what it is now.

TLDR: Only Googly things worth purchasing (on sale) are the stand and fabric case.
Congrats on the new phone. You can buy anything in the box on Google... but why? They are ALL overpriced and there are many quality USB-C charging products out there. Deals abound right now on equivalent stuff. I took my P3XL out of the box and just plugged it into my existing P2XL stuff. Everything is still in the P3XL box. One useful thing is the USB-A to USB-C dongle which I use for USB thumb drives, but you can get that anywhere. I did break down and buy a G Stand when they were on sale half-price on BF. No way would I pay $80 for this. Still kicking myself for paying $40 BUT it is fast charging wireless and more importantly lets me use the phone on my desk at the right angle and it doesn't move around. Solid piece of kit once you switch off EVERY other function but wireless charging. Oh, and I ordered a carbon fabric case because I loved that on my P2XL.
Careful of low quality USB type C cables. I find even the Anker ones I bought on Amazon don't charge my phone as fast as the Google ones after only using it for a month... (Used ampere to check charge speed) And if you buy some really crappy ones you can kill your phone. Don't skimp on cables or chargers... My friend asked me why his phone doesn't register inputs properly when he's charging and he had cheap cables (the phone was doing funky stuff while plugged in)
Something like this might be a good buy for you
