I'll still be a T-Mobile customer, just using wifi to make my calls so i dont get charged out the ass for it.
You'll still get charged. Wifi calling uses your TMobile minutes. Don't mistake it for Google voice or voip type

That's incorrect. If you call over wifi overseas to the US its as though you are calling from the US. If you call from overseas to another overseas number you are charged international long distance. If you receive a call while overseas you are charged international roaming. Its in plain English on t mobiles website and I've done it.
OP: I suggest flashing a stock ROM (rooted is fine) and call t mobile to get an unlock code so you can use a local Sim if you want.

I called 3 times to confirm and that's what they said, as long as I'm calling to the US I won't be charged. I'll be keeping data off at all times and solely using Wi-Fi.

Well....I gave a friend my phone (his is not unlock) to go
overseas (my phone was on Jedi Mind Trick) and he used it
without a single hitch with a local Sim card!
So...I don't know about the stock part....
EDIT: It might be because Jedi Mind Trick is based on the original ICS...

Hi guys! I just got my galaxy s4 yesterday. I rooted it, and I got wifi tether on the device. It didn't work, and I was wondering if it was the app's problem for not having support for gs4, or tmobioe blocking any tethering action for people with no hotspot plan, or that I just have the settings wrong. Can anyone help me? Thank you!

Maybe it's a carrier thingy, my friend's iPhone 5 can't enable hotspot... Anyway check if you have correct APN.

Changing the APN (Access Point Name) won't make tethering "work". There are strings in the framework that need to be modified for it to work without getting cut off. Believe me I know, I had the fix in my ROM for the Note 2. The guy above is posting from outside the USA/T-Mobile with an Xperia lol.
Ohhh okay. So no way until someone makes a rom that can breai away from tmobile stuff?

I had used APN backup & restore on both S3 and Note 2. Hopefully, its dev will be able to setup an APN that will work with the S$.
Note - it will only work on 3/4 G, so you would loose LTE after restoring modified tethering APN, so you would have to backup the LTE APN and then restore it when you want to go back to using LTE.
There is no unlimited mobile hotspot yet, until then, you can call T-Mobile and they have free tethering for up to 500Mb until someone can unlock it for us.

As I said it's as simple as modifying a few strings in a framework apk.

Same problem without rooting
Guys,
I just bought the At&t version of S4, got an unlock code for Sim and put in the nano T-mobile sim, all was good, got 4G internet from T-mobile and made calls. Tried to turn on my hotspot feature from the phone itself because T-mobile hotspot is free up to a limit.
Was not able to turn it on, it kept going to the off position with the error "MOBILE DATA IS NOT AVAILABLE OR INVALID SIM".
Of course I had my wifi connection off and had 4G connection from T-mobile. Got off with t-mobile customer service and got their APN settings, was nothing to change.
Yet my own samsung hotspot feature doesn't turn on. I think samsung has turned off this feature in US versions of S4, so even if you root, you wouldn't be able to get hotspot on.
At least that is my two sense on this matter. IF any body knows how to rectify this issue, please help.

It's saying invalid, because the strings in the framework point to an AT&T APN. Once again.....the strings will need to be changed for this to work.
I know that this method works with any plan, because I had the android preferred (5gb no tethering for $20) and now have the truly unlimited; and the method I speak of works on both.

Nope. When you're on LTE and you receive or make a call, it switches to HSPA+ (3.5g)
Im also curious. Does the handset support VoLTE, or is it of a problem of T-Mobile not supporting it on it's towers?
Software
It's all in the software you would get ota from T-Mobile. There are roms for the Note 3 that support it, and some that don't.
VoLTE is in the S4 firmware and buildprop but for some reason it does not work yet, my wife's note 3 has it running stock rooted, when making or receiving a call a small toast notification pops up saying "call on VoLTE" . Maybe when we get the official lollipop update it may be incorporated.

These are the steps i took to send mms over wifi on Jedi Elite Rom. Not sure if it will work on any other Roms.
1. Send a picture to your gmail associated with the phone.
2. Open the gmail and open the picture in your gallery.
3. Now you should be able to send an MMS over WiFi.
Feel free to chime in if it works and what Rom you are on.

I see. I would call TMOBILE and get new sim and have them registered ur card for WiFi calling so u don't have the issue anymore. I get that you don't use it but it is much needed when sending MMS the normal way

Why is it much needed? I use AT&T's network, so I am asking because I'm not sure if there's a difference with T Mobile's MMS.

Yes there is, the Tmobile S6 Edge+ needs to be un-locked.
Check out this thread below, it talks about a Tmobile Note 4

your S6 Edge+ working with a Verizon sim card.
