Error 7 while flashing Nougat ROM - Xiaomi Mi 5s Questions & Answers

So I got my mi 5s today and immediately unlocked it and flashed TWRP via fastboot. Installing the newest lineage OS resulted in error 7.
I was previously on Miui (obviously) with Android Marshmallows.
I assume I do not have the nougat bootloader to install a nougat Rom.
Can anybody point me to the direction how I can flash the newest bootloader or full Nougat Miui to get the Nougat bootloader? Preferebly as via TWRP.
Any hint, post, thread or tutorial is very much appreciated

Whats your miui version? China or global, stable or dev?
Try to check the updater app for updates

Stable and global And Marshmallow. I think the seller never touched it and didn't modify anything.

And I am completely without Rom cuz I wiped data by typing in yes and did a normal wipe afterwards. Sorry I am confident flashing Roms but this time I don't know

To fix error 7, flash the following zip. (For now, the latest is 7.9.14, I recommend you to flash the latest version unless you meet some feature failure like no sound, no wifi, can't playback video.... etc)

You can flash one of these firmware only,
all works

You can bypass error7 result but be extremely careful. If you are absolutely sure the ROM is compatible with your phone do this.

[Help me!] My Zenfone 2 always brick when I try to install a ROM

Hey! I have a Zenfone 2 ZE551ML (Z00A) which always brick when I try installing a new rom. The first time I tried installing RR and so, I downgraded to Lollipop so that could use Asus official tool to unlock my bootloader, then I flashed a TWRP recovery (I'll post the file here) through fastboot and booted to recovery mode. I used the TWRP recovery to then install ASUS rom for Android 6.0 (because the RR thread says I must have Android 6 previously installed) then I restarted and.... got bricked. To unbrick, I used this tutorial from here (one that teached me how to use xFSTK and fastboot to bring my phone back to life) and then unlocked the bootloader and flashed the TWRP recovery, did the update to 6.0 then when I tried to flash RR TWRP says I can't install it (I got error 7) the I reboot and got bricked again. Can someone here please help me?

There's a lot going on here. You need to spend some time reading through the threads. Basically, you can't flash the official asus rom with twrp. It requires stock recovery. And you need to be sure to have the correct bootloader for the custom rom you are installing. Basically, Lollipop roms based on stock rom and Cm13 based roms need Lollipop bootloader. Marshmallow roms based on stock mm rom and LinOS 14.1 based roms need the Marshmallow bootloader. That's where your error 7 was coming from.
Again, read the first post of the Rom you want to install carefully. It should tell you what you need.

The RR rom tells me I need Android 6 but the Official way to unlock the bootloader doesn't work with Android 6. How am I supposed to unlock it? If it helps, here is the link to rom I'm trying to install: https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/development/rom-resurrection-remix-m-5-8-0-t3507247.

Like I said, you need to read through the threads. Go to the resources and the index threads in the general section. And look at the first posts there. Also find the modder tool thread. It's a very useful multipurpose tool for all kinds of things.

Jio4GVoice App Oreo Problem

This is my first post here so please ignore any novice mistakes.
I have been running AICP 7.1.2 from a long time and in fact after i flashed a custom rom, i lost volte altogether, which has been an issue for most of the people. So now i have to use Jio4GVoice app for calling.
I tried 2-3 Oreo based roms but even after whitelisting the app and providing complete data access to the app, unfortunately it doesn't run in background. It definitely shows up status as Online but i don't receive any calls unless i open up the app in foreground. I tried every possible fix for this but somehow Oreo has a hard background killing scheme. All Nougat roms worked fine though. Can somebody help please?
Same problem here in oneplus one
Flash Stock ZUI through TWRP first and boot till you see HD or enable it in settings if you don't see it enabled. After this, flash any custom ROM you like, Volte should be enabled by default at this stage. I had this problem and this method solved it. Try it.

Could you please help me on how to backup the entire custom rom before flashing stock rom ?
I want to backup all data so that I can restore everything
Can you help me on this?
Or can I get volte working on custom rom itself without having to go back to stock rom?

You can make a full backup of your system through TWRP.
Then flash stock rom.
Boot into it and wait till you get HD.
Reboot and restore.
This should do the trick.
But BEWARE, you should take the backup and restore with the SAME recovery.
The deodexed stock rom will flash an older recovery and hence replace the new one.
You have to FLASH THE NEW (SAME) RECOVERY that you used for backup BEFORE RESTORING your data.
If you fail to keep an eye on this step, you are most likely going to HARD BRICK your device.

Nope. Just go ahead and follow the steps carefully.
By the way, the deodexed rom is pre-rooted.
You just need it to see the HD symbol to appear on boot that's all.

Thank you so much for your help
So after doing all steps and restoring the custom rom through the twrp recovery will I have all data back including xposed modules and media, contacts, apps, app data etc?
I mean will everything on my device present right now will be there after this process or something will be missing?
Also one more important thing I forgot to tell you is that after flashing custom ROM I flashed custom kernel also so is it okay if I flash stock ROM along with the custom kernel?
And twrp recovery version can be a different one (i mean can it be on latest version?) while restoring custom ROM or should be the same version on which I back up custom ROM?
Sorry for asking too many questions
Don't know why u r facing this problem, but I've tried almost every Oreo really roms here and all of them have stable volte! My jio works flawlessly on all of them. Just make sure u r on baseband version 1.7. Naming a few stable volte Oreo roms:
Bootleggers

Havos Os(my currenr favourite)
Pixel experience (old rom without updates)

Thanks for your reply but the problem is I had to enable volte in stock ROM before flashing custom ROM but I didn't enable volte on stock rom.
So if I update my baseband on custom rom without flashing stock rom again will jio volte work ?

No. I tried it. It won't work. I had VoLTE working in stock rom and after rooting and unlocking the bootloader, i didn't have VoLTE enabled in any of the custom roms. I updated my baseband. I've had 1.6, 1.7 and 2.0. But none of them is a workaround for VoLTE. So as already suggested, install stock rom and then check for HD symbol on the same. (I'm yet to try this. I'll soon do it myself and may be post the result here).
And for that custom kernel question on stock rom, well you have to install stock for just few minutes or hours just to get HD symbol so that you can proceed with installing custom roms with VoLTE enabled. So, better clean install stock rom and wait for HD symbol. Then as stated before, use the same custom recovery version, you will be able to restore data back.
Guys i finally had this problem sorted out. Steps which worked for me:
1. Flash stock rom via mi flash tool - Zui 2.5
2. Wait for HD symbol and then do a test call
3. Clean install custom rom which supports VoLTE
4. Before first start, install baseband version 1.7
VoLTE worked for me like this only
I'm using AospExtended Oreo based

Need help going back to stock Oreo (but keeping bootloader unlocked)

Long story short, I got pissed at Moto and decided to unlock my bootloader, flash TWRP, and flash a custom ROM (Alberto97's AOSP 8.1). While the ROM is working fine, eventually, I kind of missed the stock ROM, and decided I want to go back (Oreo). Keep in mind, though, I don't want to relock my bootloader as I will flash TWRP and root my device after going back to stock. How do I do this? I do have the Oreo OTA zip with me (Build no. OPN27.76-12-22), if that matters.
When you never were on stock oreo, you can easily flash stock firmware with February security patch (it's 7.1) and then update with the Oreo update zip you find in the forums. Then you can flash TWRP again.

Bro, you and I are on same page. I also rooted my device when I was on stock Oreo and forgot to make a backup of stock Oreo (cuz I'm stupid). I talked a lot to other members and only option that is available for now to get back to stock with boot unlocked and OTA support is wait for Fastboot flash files for stock Oreo. Stock flash files will return your device to original state. I hope Oreo frimware would be available soon (about couple of months). I also want to get back to stock and guess what? I am also using AOSP by Alberto and it's working just like stock, no problem and bugs (there is some data connection bug but I use wifi all the time so it doesn't bother me) so far. Only problem with this ROM is safety net but I don't even use apps that requires safety net certification so I'm good with that too. Basically, it is a perfect ROM for me.
And don't try to back flash if you want to get back to original state, it is true you can still flash 7.1.1 but no guarantee, I just heard from someone but I never tried because I don't want to take risks and even if you got it running 7.1.1, a single OTA will brick your phone for sure. So wait for Oreo frimware, that's the only way and by the time enjoy AOSP.

You'll get back to stock for sure but bootloader will still be unlocked, the only way to lock bootloader is through fastboot flashing of stock ROM. Moreover, TWRP backup contains personal information so not many want to share it but if someone kind enough to make a backup after doing factory reset so it will not contain any personal information then it will work.

Why would one still want to relock the bootloader? It's to my understanding that unlocking it voids your warranty, and I've also read somewhere that even after relocking it, the warning persists.
By the way, have you checked my PM?

MIUI 10 Update. Questionen.

Hello,
I heard about a new Miui Version. Can i update without Data loss?
Maybe there is an OTA link anderen i do not lose any Data.
Is it possible?
An If, is my updated phone as quick as when i so Clean full new Installation?
Thank you!
http://bigota.d.miui.com/V10.0.1.0....roGlobal_V10.0.1.0.OEIMIFH_98721c9743_8.1.zip
this is the download link
i am going to flash it via twrp! (from Omnirom) so my internal storage is not Encrypted!
but if you are coming from miui9.6.4 etc then chances are your DATA partition is encrypted and twrp might not able to flash the flashrom (link given above)
however ! i bought on RN5p on 9.6.3 when OTA came, i downloaded and flashed it via twrp to 9.6.4 , that time i didnt face any encryption error!
encryption is mostly set in place when you enable screen pattern with fingerprint sensor! (even if you remove it later on, the partition stays encrypted and twrp wont able to flash recoveryrom!
then only oneoption
either save this file as UPDATE.zip and flash it via updater (miui's own recovery-image)
or download the FASTBOOT VERSION of miui 10 and make it via MIflasher! (you will loose all data )
also you may flash REDWOLF recovery, it has power to wipe partitions for RN5pro after asking for decryption pattern from you (as password) , i flashed RR and OMni last time via redwolf recovery after giving correct pattern while wiping /data /system /vendor partitions!
OK thank you.
So when in download the link .zip above and install it via official xiaomi updater installed on my Phone i wont loose Data?
Is this possible?
By the way, i have redmi Note 5 global Version (whyred)

1. try with twrp , or redwolf (wiping partitions (accept internal storage) , if it wipes successfully then OK, flash the miui10
2. if it gives error then boot into miui 9.x.x and save the miui10 file as update.zip in internal storage Download folder and open updater and call that update as "update from zip file" and try to do that
REMEMBER! REDMI NOTE 5Pro has code 4 ANTI ROLLBAK ENABLED!
if miui flashing change that anti rolback code to 5, then YOU CAN NEVER DOWNGRADE to MIUI9, if you try! you will FRY your motherboard
you can check your status
connect RN5p in fastboot mode, open minimal adb & Fastboot, and type
fastboot getvar anti
and enter
if it shows 3 then you are OK , but if it shows 4 then you can never flash any MIUI rom which came older days!
so be sure! plz ! read log of miui10

But is the 10.0.1.0 the newest Update? Because there is 10.0.2.0
Maybe they stopped update because of issues and then i dont want 10.0.1.0

Okay so did you have try to update with this method ?
I have a Redmi Note 5 Whyred but when I have unlock my phone I wanted to install Xposed (in the STOCK ROM) and after the reboot... Bootloop and I have download an flashable ROM file .zip from the official Xiaomi website but now I don't know if I have install the wrong version or if the root may be corrupt something but my update software don't found the Miui 10 update but other people already have Miui 10 without ROOT with the official method (start the update app and download Miui10) so I don't know if this is a good idea to download this ZIP and use it in the update software. So i want to know if :
-i will lose data if I do this update like this ?
-the update software will work after the update in Miui10 ?
Thank you for you answer (AND NO I DON'T WANT TO USE THE BACKUP APP BECAUSE COPY APK DON'T COPY APP DATA !!!)

Or at least link me a guide which worked for someone in the same situation as me.

I am also searching for a solution. My phone was chinese variant and flashed global rom and tried to flash twrp and it didn’t get flashed rather it got a bootloop. I fixed that by unrooting from twrp but now i Don't have any recovery, my system recovery also don’t work now
Greetings

Dude, flash miui fastboot ROM like this (search on YT):
HOW TO FLASH MIUI via FASTBOOT - REDMI NOTE 8 PRO
tha channel name is Konah the Begonia Guardian
*chose your version like pggcnxm
buddy how do you know that you have Chinese version with global rom.
i have this device but not sure if it is global or not
I'm using cn and moved to global.
Here is what I have done:
- Unlock
- Flash fastboot global rom (Only A9 available)
- Update to latest
- Flash orangefox
- Use TWRP's guide to flash vbmeta to disable and avoid tripping AVB (see TWRP thread)
- Boot to system once
- Reboot to recovery
- ...
- Profit
The trickiest part is when flashing recovery. If you don't enter the recovery after entering "fastboot reboot" command, your recovery would likely be replaced. Hold vol+ when entering command.
Be carefull when updating. If you have not flashed a MIUI full rom on orangefox, you cannot do incremental update, so go with full rom once. Also I have bootloop once, and fortunately escaped. Here is my solution (need someone to test, since this is my daily driver)
- Vanillafy everything (uninstall magisk, restore stock boot.img, restore stock recovery)
- Update
- Customize everything
OR
- After flashing update, dont reboot to system. It will likely to trip AVB. Flash vbmeta once and try to reboot.
If you have tried second update method and succeeded, please do tell.
Hope this help.

From the packaging, if you have a red box, it's chinese. If white, it's global.
From rom version. If it says someting like "QGGMIXM", it's global. If it says "QCGMIXM" or something like that, it's chinese.

can you guide on how to install MIUI 12 global on RN8Pro global currently on MIUI 12 China Beta ROM
I'm not enrolled as Beta tester (i know the warning issued by Xiaomi)
tried directly installing via TWRP over MIUI 12 China
but after finished install, the internal memory got all erased and replaced with weird names of folders and wouldn't boot to the system, kept rebooting to TWRP
reinstalled MIUI 12 China beta via TWRP

pretty simple bro, just return to miui 11 first because I fear you can brick, after that, just flash any twrp for a10 or a9 (depending of your android version) then wipe dalvik, cache, data.
**miui is problematic flashing in different versions, in my video I recommended donwgrade first

I have the same situation.
Mine was worst. I didn't know my phone was chinese with global rom, 'cause the chinese sold me 'global version', and sent it in white box, but it's the chinese version with global rom.
Well, I tried following a few tutorials, but all after fastboot twrp, close AVB, install ROOT and reboot, started bootlooping and I had to flash global rom again with mi flash. Can't get root access / magisk.
Did you solve that? Please, guide us.

If I'm on Global ROM on CN(red box) version phone and decide not to install root or custom recovery and keep everything vanilla with unlocked bootloader, can I do incremental updates?

You can, working flawlessly. But once go global, never lock your bootloader.
You can use below TWRP Thanks LR Team. (I tired Miui 12 with CH Device)
install TWRP in fastboot
Reboot TWRP after Advanced >File Manager > delete "system_root/system/recovery_fromboot.p"
Again Advanced > install root
Finish.
https://mega.nz/file/7E5QhS6Y#hzCpPWwxO4104R0oJRTv0L1_-lNb5D1pgYp9h4oJfVM
if bootloop restart TWRP>Advanced>Remove AVB 2.0
Advanced >File Manager > delete "system_root/system/recovery_fromboot.p"
Again "Advanced > install root"
can not pass saftynet ctsprofile
