M8 GPE stuck on bootloader

Hi everybody
I have a M8 GPE unlocked/un-rooted/s-on with stock 4.4.4 and today i said that I will not wait for the OTA to come, and decided to flash it myself.
When going to recovery i saw that there is no option to adb sideload a file, strange, so I booted in TWRP (not flashed) and tried to sideload from there. I could not make the ADB sideload work in TWRP also because of some errors, and I tried the install zip option. When flashing the OTA zip I got an error saying that the required version is *4.4.4* and that i had *4.4.2*. I know for sure that I had 4.4.4 because i got the update myself and apply it automatically from within android.
Trying to do a factory reset in TWRP in order to try again the OTA zip file, i wiped the system partition (my bad) and since then i am stucked in bootloader/recovery without any way to boot into OS.
I tried to reboot into RUU and flash RUU-HTC_One_M8_GPE_5.0.1-3.11.1700.5.zip, but i get the error (probably because i am s-on):

I just read that in order to flash back the stock rom i have to be locked, so i did fastboot oem lock. Tried to flash the RUU image and i get this:

i managed to install CM11 in the end... at least i can use the phone until i figure out how to get back to stock gpe

Sounds like a file error, but I'm not a reliable guide for reading error codes. A Google search turned up some posts about this - maybe they can help.

Are you in ruu mode or download mode? Have you tried the SD card method?

Try doing it with a custom recovery on SD card. Also, you can find plenty of close to stock roms around here. Best regards

So, to summarize: you tried to flash the 2.10.401.1 RUU although there are already many posts directly under its download link that tell you that the file is corrupted. Seems like you really have guts.
If your phone doesn't boot then I think there is not much you can do since the RUU already overwrote some of the partitions. The only solution I see is trying to contact this RUU service and hope that they can fix your phone. (I'm assuming that your phone is S-ON since you didn't mention it. If it actually is S-OFF you should theoretically be able to restore your phone by using a RUU that downgrades your phone.)

It was really simple really i flashed the previous version and then installed the new version (2.10.401.1) with a Stock nandroid backup because if i tried to download the ota update from the prev. version it would only wipe my phone and restart

How to update HTC10 with software version 2.42.651.66 to Oreo 8.0?

Hi there people!
I have got my HTC10 running on software version 2.42.651.66 (which seems to be Sprint US edition). However I am running this device in UAE without any network issues.
Is there any way to update to Anroid 8.0 Oreo?
Would appreciate some help.

i've seen that page, but i don't get that RUU to work
i downloaded it and it's a zip... isn't a RUU an exe?
even if i flash it like a zip throught fastboot i can't find any stock RUU for my actual firmware, in case of any error
i'm s-off but my bootloader is locked (wtf did the last user did?!), and i can't relock it...
so, i'm really lost... would you help me?

A ruu.zip is easiest flashed through download mode. Rename the ruu.zip to 2PS6IMG.zip and copy it to the SDCARD then enter download mode, the file will be automatically detected and you will be asked to flash it.
If the 2.42 ruu doesn't work pick the 2.5x ruu and do the above again.
"wtf did the user do" the user did nothing, he used sunshine and they offer the option to s-off the device and keep the status of the bootloader locked.
What is locked can't be relocked obviously, if you want unlocked status just rerun the sunshine app and change your values.
Edit : it even says there EXACTLY what to do with the ruu.zip, please pay some attention and read a bit more carefully.

2. i downloaded the very first exe showed there, which is Sprint_HTC10_3.18.651.3_RUU. i executed it but failed with an infamous 132 signature error. i read about but didn't find a solution.
3. i decided to leave any exe for the noobs, so i downloaded my exact ruu.zip, which is 2PS6IMG_2.42.651.6_RUU.zip. actually my firmware is 2.42.651.66, with and extra 6; anyway, it failed too but this time with this message on PowerShell:

Stubborn to stay with fastboot commands......well done
But what next......
First it's needed to get into the bootloader or download mode. If you are still on the 2.42 firmware than also use that ruu (that your OS is .66 and the ruu .6 is not relevant, that's just software related and not firmware and it won't interfere the flash). Read up in one of the guides about the the topic "RUU mode" it's done via a command "fastboot oem rebootRUU" but i am not 100% sure at this time if you enter this menu via the bootloader or download menu, check that out please. At the moment i don't have the time to do searches.
If you can't get that to work i can suggest to enter download mode, flash TWRP, flash a stock based nougat rom, rerun sunshine and set all flags to s-off and unlocked bootloader instead of a locked one. In the very beginning that flag caused issues flashing kernels which they addressed later on with further development, maybe your device is has a hiccup at that level somehow.

i did it!
i flashed the 100mb oreo FIRMWARE listed on that page... then i RUUed with the first exe
i have SPRINT oreo.... but
i hate the bloatware and that hands free activation... stuff i cant use in my country even if i want
wonder, is there a way to flash the developer ruu without damaging the CDMA options? i mean, i recently found out there are 2 variants... gsm and CDMA... didnt know CDMA existed because i live in LatinAmerica. im afraid to flash another zip and lost my signal or something

the reason why i want to unlock my bl its because in developer options i cant UNLOCK OEM as the option isnt selectable... why?

Nope. Oem unlock allows you to unlock the bootloader which is needed to flash TWRP and with that custom roms.
To get s-off you need to run sunshine and that requires root so the first time the device needs oem unlock enabled, unlock the bootloader, root the OS and perform sunshine to acquire s-off.
To change cid and mid you need s-off which you already have. So in a way you do not need that option enabled.
Why don't you start with the basics and read more in the sprint section to gain more knowledge and learn if sprint can even be converted in a safe way ?

Previously I had a working version 2.41.401.41 with Magisk. I wanted to remove root and via twrp I applied a unmodified TWRP backup of 2.41.401.41.
But since my HTC 10 has bootloop. I tried to install customs ROMs and differnet version of RUU and TWRP backups and I still have the bootloop.

Rename the ruu.zip to 2PS6IMG.zip and copy it to the sdcard and boot to download mode and flash it.

I tried with OTG mode but it failed.. I will retry with a sdcard.

Never works with on the go.

Not working too with sd card
I think it's a issue because /data partition is missing or corrupted.
With viper 16.0 I boot until a screen requiring the password to decrypher the content.
And in twrp I got message 'Failed to mount /data' (Invalid argument)....

Hello. You solved? It happened to me too, I can confirm that this error occurs after replacing the display. Evidently, some non-original displays cause this error.
The only solution is to delete "tp_SYN ***. Img" from the ROM you are installing.
This causes a lot of problems.
You will no longer be able to install an RUU.exe.
Having an "s-off" helps.
Personally, to solve the problem, I have decrypted the rom.zip and I have flash system.img with fastboot. Instead for the firmware, you can download the .zip file containing only the desired firmware. Before flashing, you have to remove the "tp_SYN ***. Img" file.

Are you serious? That's my problem! Yea I installed an aftermarket screen and that's the file I get stuck on. How do I decrypt the file to remove the tp_SYN3708.img?

This problem occurs after replacing the display, for normal RUU firmware it is enough to disassemble the phone and disconnect the display cable, then run RUU.exe on the computer and flash the board with the display turned off. I restored bricked HTC M10 Sprint 2PS6400 S-ON with locked bootloader

You need to use an RUU that matches your mainversion/software version that shows in bootloader: 3.16.401.2
That old Marshmallow based RUU won't flash over a newer one, without the device being s-off.
So, try the matching RUU and it should flash fine.
