So I was in the same boat you are in. Nothing could read the card except for my Nokia n97 mini. It recognized the card as "locked" and prompted for a password. I bypassed the prompt and went to the file manager. From there it let me format the card and it is back to normal. See, Symbian is good for something after all!
PS: I tried the same process with an E71 and had the same successful results. All recent Symbian phones should work as it appears they can handle the encryption and password. The card is now happily back in my HTC EVO.

This is the best news of the day .
Has noone tried a low level format utility? I once "bricked" a USB flash drive and fixed it with a low level format utility. Instead of reading file partitions and the like it just accesses the raw disk and 0s it out. From there you should be able to reformat it with the normal windows formatting tools.

Pretty sure this is the one I used to recover a "dead" flash drive previously.

I don't know if it'll work but I would think that it should.
Excuse my ignorance, but would this be used to format a MicroSD card that has been "bricked" by using it in a Samsung Focus, or to make a MicroSD card usable in a Samsung Focus?

OK thanks for testing , but the symbian way is confirmed .
if you can't find a symbian phone maybe I can help ( I have one )
ps there are rumours that wm6.5 can do it to .
Anyone actually tried the damn disk manager in Windows (i.e. diskmgmt.msc)? You know, before one runs out downloading esoteric tools, why not try the built-in stuff? I'd be surprised if this is anything beyond WP7 overwriting the MBR with its own crap. (The MBR keeps the partition table, too, and you aren't required to have one if your operating system uses an alternate way and/or doesn't need to boot from it).

event tried a blackberry!
only question is now, who lives around Frankfurt/germany and has a symbian device?

You have to define "the system don't see the card." Like in device manager, is anything there? Just because it doesn't show up as a drive doesn't mean squat.
in mmc computer management the card does not appear AT ALL.
in device management, the card shows all "-" under volumes.
not sure how i can describe this in more detail, its simply as if i never plugged it in.

I can't tell you exact (I can't test it at this moment , need a good screwdriver) , but what I understand is that device manager isn't seeing .
I did read somewhere that the os sees the card as write protected and 0 GB .

no, it simply gives me the name of my sandisk micromate that carries the card. I have tried other usb card readers too though, same result
so another 64 gig sd card question, though im pretty sure mine is fresh. Got a 64 gig sd card class 10 (forget brand name, will look it up and update the post in a bit) i format it to exfat first, and pop it in my phone (using infamous latest, along with ktoonez kernel) phone immediately says sd card is damaged, try Reformatting it. i browse the sd card on my phone with rom toolbox. folders are corrupt (folders are named something along the lines of µideos~1 (my videos folder) or µusic~1 (my music folder), etc etc). i pop the card back in my computer, reformat, but trying fat32 this time. same result, pop in phone, says its damaged, corrupt folders. try formatting directly with the phone, pop it out to transfer my stuff onto it, pop it back in. same result, says damaged etc.
The thing is, the card works fine computer to computer. No corruption, but as soon as i pop it in the phone, above happens. Ive used the windows default formatting tool. Ive used easus partitioning and formatting tool and i have also used gparted (linux partitioning and formatting tool) all with same results. This doesnt just occur on my phone, this also happens on my friends verizon galaxy note 2 (running clean rom with sabertooth kernel).
So im wondering, is it a faulty card, a kernel problem, a general android problem, or am i doing something wrong with preparing the card with my phone?
Heres the gparted log i generated when i ran its fix and recover feature

Exfat makes my phone bootloop.
You never updated to say which brand of card it was. I still haven't had to buy a new 64gb card and am still using 32gb cards. I'd like to know which brands to avoid getting.
Well Samsung says it only officially supports up to 32 gbs, so putting in a 64gb is a gamble. I just ordered a 64 let's see what happens.

A 64gb card in exFAT format will work just fine on a GS4 out of the box. It's when a custom kernel that doesn't support exFAT get use is when it give troubles.

so as for branding, the friend i got this from is away for a while so lets assume its generic. theres no noticeable branding on the card so this is likely the case.
Though, i he did mention the brand to me when he gave it to me, i know it starts with an M.
anyone wanna suggest anymore tests i should run on it.

currently running a test on the card in the phone. its about half way done (currently, it wrote 35 gigs @9.5MB/s) so it seems though it may be generic, im one of the lucky few who have a working generic (except for the problem in the op, obviously)
so if this test does come back completely clean, what step should i take next. If tests on both the pc and phone are coming back clean, It should be something with the phone (more then likely the kernel) right?

Hi there
Almost a year to the day and im wandering if you ever figured out what the heck caused the: µEDGE, µIDEO, µOMICS, µUSIC and so on. Did you find a cure or fix? All i know is I have a Samsung galaxy S3 gt-19300 and a Samsung galaxy tab 2 7.0 I often swap the 32Gb sd between the 2 and all of a sudden this happens. I reformatted the card (which took soom doing) nothing happened there still there. any help would be appreciated.

You reformatted but nothing happened? Like, all the data is still there? Mine is doing that now; been using the same 64GB card for almost a year now and just recently it started showing as Generic Hierarchical instead of FAT32... I've used multiple programs in Windows and on the phone itself, and even GParted in Ubuntu; everything says it formats but after I unmount then remount I see that there has been no change... almost as if it's write-protected. I can read all my information, but unlike yours, mine isn't corrupted at all... but I cannot write or make any sort of changes to the contents.
Out of curiosity, if you do a chkdsk /f in Windows, does it mention anything about a dirty bit being set and unable to be removed? I only ask because mine does and no program or app I've used can fix it. Either way, I've tried everything but a low-level format (which I'm going to try in a few days) and haven't been able to find a fix. I'm thinking our cards might just be beyond repair...

Hello folks, long time reader first time poster here.
I was looking around on the net and I'm unable to solve a bizzare issue with USB otg. I have a rooted but stock nexus 7 2nd version, and can use USB otg fine I guess, but here's the problem.
No matter what the size of said USB pen, it's always registered as the same size as the tablet storage. I can't understand this at all and nobody seems to have had this problem so far as I can tell. Done various formatting with apps but its always 12gb like the internal SD. Any advice would be very welcome as I'd very much like to use all of my space on a USB stick haha

I also use stickmount app, it would not show in the storage in settings on stock rom but on a custom rom since they have enabled that feature by default and kernel should support that feature to make it native, they have it under the storage settings but when using stickmount u will see that the misc storage increases and if u click on that u will find usb storage.

Always says the same storage as the SD, but at least I can use the whole 64gb a couple GB at a time. Just seems to be an error in the system not detecting size beyond 12GB. So as soon as you move a folder of various videos, for example, at say a total of 6gb, it'll scream "noooo not enough space!". But if I do file by file its totally fine. Oh well

Huston, we have a problem. Since day 1.
(& please refrain from mentioning warranty, not an option)
I never had access to my microSd card.
I thought it was a stock Rom problem, so I waited until root, maybe with another rom, the problem would disappear.
Sadly, no.
The thing is, a 200 MB partition always mounts as my SD card.
I don't have a clue on how to solve it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance! :fingers-crossed:
The bastard partition is the one mentioned below, and below that one, the untitled, is my 64GB micro Sd card.

hi,
what device do you have?
before you answer elephone p8000, i mean which version as in which 4g bands does it have access to? normal or version b?
is the phone working operation?
what current rom are you on?
is your phone ever recognised by the computer when you switch it on while connected to the usb and pc as an mtk preloader device?
my suggestion would be to re use an official rom update with a scatter file method. this should repartition your device properly.
this is why its super imoprtant to know which version you are on.
I'm quite positive it's normal version, I live in Portugal, Europe.
Besides from the mentioned problem, the phone is working properly, is that what you mean with "is the phone working operation?"
Right now I'm on Eragon 9.5, before today, stock unrooted original rom.
Regarding usb cable connection:
I'm a Mac user, and the phone is recognized and i can use Android file transfer app on my mac while on android sys.
If I'm on recovery mode, i can't mount the "sd card" to my computer.
Hope this helps

why don't you just format the sd card ? put the sd card in your pc and use MiniTool Partition Wizard Free Edition and delete every partition on the sd cad. and then create a new, FAT32 and if you want to have files biger then 4GB then exFAT, but then you need to flash this zip, to get it working right on phone (you need to use a custom rom, eragon or mine nexus, because of init.d)
The multiple partitions are on the MMC, not the SD. You misunderstood. The mmcblk1p1 mounts as the SD card. But it's a partition from the MMC. Mounts with or without a physical SD in the slot.
I think I'll try and investigate the scatter method. Don't have a clue, yet.
Seems like a fluked MMC partitioning somewhere in time.

firstly, you are very brave for deleting a partition you saw and didn't know what it did. what if it was the bootloader and you kill it? was very risky.
secondly, you don't know how this efi partition appeared on your device, it just wouldn't let you use your sd card? sometimes on SD cards they have a partition from the factory for some bs software but you say yours was the internal storage.
this brings me onto the fact that your seller has flashed your phone with something that enabled this? you openly trust the seller that they haven't modified the device to collect personal information or anything? i mean i would be worried and would have flashed the scatter file method. again this is why i also say you are brave.
dr root has provided you with a method for non pc version which i didn't know existed.
it's your device at the end of the day and you can do whatever you want.
good luck and enjoy your device
I was using Oxygen OS 9.0.2.
Now, when i came back to MIUI 9.6.4 Global stable, my internal storage has become 50GB.
When i connect my phone with my computer it shows 50GB only.
However, after installing the MIUI, on first boot, in Mi file explorer its shows 54gb out of which 1.5gb is already used.
I tried formatting the data and wiping every partition using OrangeFox recovery and Twrp as well, but of no help.
Can anyone help me out?

No i didn't.
I have same, 50GB, in My pixelexperience2 from jhenrique09. :/
in 64gb variant 12gb is always system served ,
so if it shows 50+gb only
its normal

But I remember, previously it used to show 54gb available out of 64gb on firstboot.
Even i checked some unboxing videos in YouTube, it shows 54gb available out of 64gb.
Also, if I remember correctly, before installing any roms it showed more data available.
But I can understand what YasuHamed is saying.
But to be honnest, it is largely enought plus my 128Go sdcard...
