Debranding (from Cricket) Microsoft Lumia 650 - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi - new to this forum and although I've tried to search for solutions here I confess to being confused as to what to do or whether it can be done, so I apologise in advance for my lack of knowledge and hope someone can help me.
I purchased a new Microsoft Lumia 650 about a month ago but every time the phone starts (after being switched off) I'm greeted with the "Cricket" banner/page. My understanding is this is an American thing? I was completely unaware of this branding before purchasing (it wasn't mentioned in the sale information).
Either way I what I want to do is to completely remove this branding from the phone which involves re-flashing with another ROM?
The phone model number is RM-1150 and the code is 059X6M5. I've also read that this process may also involve changing the product ID?
Again, really sorry that I'm a novice with these things and I'd really appreciate any help or advice with an explanation of how I can hopefully get rid of this rather annoying feature of the phone.
Thanks in advance. :good:

Proposed Solution for IMEI Problem in Turkey (Good News!)

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! WE'VE GOT A DELIVERY
Hello,
First of all, some good news to everybody in Turkey who has been afflicted by the IMEI problem. We have produced a working solution and intend to make it available to the Turkish public for FREE, as promised.
The procedure was tested on my i-mate k-jam which I unlocked successfully. I cannot express the sheer joy when my phone picked up the signal and remained connected! It worked!!!
Alas, my own overconfidence in this victory that came after a lot of hard work and research, resulted in me baking my i-mate's ROM during an attempted ROM upgrade. So I cannot enjoy my phone right now, however, this was not caused by our IMEI update process, which works fine. I just damaged my DOC while being careless with the latest "Self-Cooked" ROM, a most cavalier act indeed.
Now, this whole IMEI issue has drawn a lot of heat on the forums. I have been personally accused of being a thief, a hacker, among other things. I only have good intentions in mind, but I also want to consult with everybody in this forum, to put my ideas to the test of the real world (especially Richard's vicious criticism will at least provide a reality check as to the feasibility of our ideas).
Project goals:
1) Mechanism should only work in Turkey
2) Mechanism should only work once for each person
3) Mechanism should be free
4) Mechanism should be easy to use
Proposal for implementation:
1) To realize a Turkey-lock, we'll impose an IP address restriction. No IP outside of Turkey will ever work.
2) To realize the person-lock, we'll prevent the unlock wizard from running more than once on any given piece of hardware. We will also ban the tool from running on VMware/Virtual PC systems, to make sure people cannot side-step our hardware lock.
3) Free - that's easy! We just won't charge for it.
4) Easy to use - that can be harder, but we'll give it our best.
Please let us have your thoughts...and thanks to everybody who contributed to this project.
We'd like to make the product as solid as possible, so the restrictions cannot be circumvented, and this won't become a tool that the real thieves can use to unlock their phones. Any technical implementation suggestions on getting this done, including making our product binaries harder to hack, and making it harder to sidestep our limitations, are VERY welcome.
Don't worry - we won't force you to use a dongle! But we'll still do everything in our power to guarantee fair use of the tool, once per person.
Good work mimarsinan. We'll chat later... just reinstalled Comprexx Time for bed now

Hope CXX took in the serial now!

I had to CID unlock the phone before our IMEI method would work. The method is not limited to Universal, but works on a wide variety of HTC phones, including Wizard which was my model.
It is really a shame nobody had a public tool that did this before. And Raskal, in all fairness, if you had made it easy for me to find a solution, I wouldn't have bothered to setup this project, work on it for a week, and finally manually unlock my phone.
I now have to keep my promise to the community and make the tool available for free as promised.

you have not made solution becuase you simply not have the background to do such tools. it is from mamaich, he is good in this what he do, you are just an "ibne", nothing more or less...
Guys. please be respectful to each other.
You can argue about technical solutions, but I'm not going to be your mother and spank you for being naughty.
Treat each other with the same respect you would like to be treated, and then we'll all be happy.
Hi Raskal,
I understand you feel angry and threatened that soon a free tool will be launched which does the same thing your commercial tool does.
While some people in Turkey would take great offence to being called "gay" (ibne means ****** in Turkish for those who do not know), I am very comfortable with my heterosexual sexual identity, and I have no problems with homosexuals, be they gays or lesbians. Of course, it hurts if some girl I have a crush on turns out to be a lesbian, but such is life
I have done nothing to offend you, other than complain about the difficulties of your fulfillment process, which drove me to implement this project in the first place. If you had had a better fulfillment process, this would never have happened.
Yes, I most certainly do not have the background to implement this project, but I have been helped by people (I don't think mamaich - unless he uses a different nick on other forums I have visited). I most certainly could not have done this alone. I am grateful for the help and support I have received from people during this project.
The sole intent of this project has been to solve a problem, I have stated from the beginning it is a non-commercial venture. I am getting PMs from people on the forums asking for help - these people need help, the same way I needed help. I have been called a hacker, a thief, a government agent under cover, and now gay, for this effort. Sorry, but by now I would have thought that you'd have already figured out these defamations and assaults do not deter me, but instead increase my motivation to get the job done faster.
I wish there was some way I could make peace with you and Richard, but you guys seem truly hell bent on doing everything in your power to stop me, well, what do you want me to do?
Am I going to be nice to the two people who have been unfriendly at best and outright hostile and rude in every sense of the word, and cease this project? Or am I going to honor the request of all those people who have kindly asked me for help with this situation?
You have a commercial tool and you are making a profit out of people who are either in possession of stolen cell phones, or are inconvenienced by government regulations. I rest my case.
Well said mimarsinan.
The board is aimed at XDA Developers. Mimarsinan set his mind to a task and came up with a solution. The burden is on him to take control of the release of that solution.

I confirm it was not me. My method works for HTC Universal only.
You are welcome Mimarsinan! We are waiting for the solution of your hard work. I lost my original IMEI number after a repair. The technician changed my ROM chip, the IMEI was changed and he said that he could not get the IMEI back. Now I want to get it back.

Help needed
Hey
Am desperate with this phone registration process here. I've paid the tax and turkcell is still playing around and not completing the registration. My last resort is to change the IMEI number of my cell. How can I use this service of yours? They are going to shut down my cell in three days... darn!

E61 - a fool for shiney new things.

Stunned silence.
I just bought the Nokia E61 on ebay (x01nk here in Japan) and smugly slipped in my Softbank sim-card. As promised, it worked a treat but AGONY, I can't use "@softbank.ne.jp" email!?! It serves me right for not checking these things out; I just assumed if the card works, then so does the email.
This is more than annoying, it's a step BACKWARDS from the mickey-mouse mobile I had before! no push email is a painful blow.
There are threads about getting MMS working on the HTC and the like, but as far as I'm aware, there doesn't seem to be an E61 solution.
So, I'm stuck with a classy piece of hardware that can't even email friends without paying for pop/imap charges. Gutted, doesn't even come close - too embarresed to tell anyone. I just want to sit in a dark corner for while - close the door behind you.
Doesn't anyone know how to sort this problem out? I've seen the MMS settings that have been posted on the web, but none of them seem work..
Come on guys, I'm struggling here!
I really want to buy one of these but SB will not sell to my company...have to make min of 50 orders...what is the point with these guys..
Anyway so does this mean if I purchase one OS then there is no sms, mms??
how about SB to SB phones where the number is only used not a proper mail address (@softbank.ne.jp)?? ANy other features that dont work???
Thanks
Unlock Security Code Nokia E61
Hi All,
Sorry if this question might similar with many previous ones posted in this forum.
I just joined with this forum after a colleague recommended me to seek help for my problem.
I still own an old silver Nokia E61 - which some friends teased me by call it a calculator
I'm totally forgot the security code which come up when we restart the phone.
Some websites provide the solution but I felt hesitate since they ask for the IMEI number - which I believe we shouldn't inform it to anyone.
Would be really appreciate if anyone can help with this common issue or point me to old thread which has the information.
Thanks in advance!

Hacking WP7 - any REAL beginner guides?

Hi
I'm pretty sure this hasn't been covered off already - well - not to the level of detail I need anyway.
I came to the xda forums after a friend of mine suggested that there were hacks available.
It's clear that 'something' is available, but what I am not finding is:
A) A SIMPLE guide that shows us people totally new to phone 'hacking' how to do it, from start to finish, with minimal lingo and acronyms.
B) An clear and simple explanation on the different 'hacking' options available
C) The reason you would want to do it? From what I can see, the only benefit seems to be a few pointless homebrew apps that you can download - and for the risk involved...why would you chance it?
Don't get me wrong, tinkering in itself is the reason you would want to do it - it's fun - but I can't help thinking that the WP7 side of 'hacking' doesn't offer much reward.
Would really appreciate any advice/help/links with my questions.
Thanks
Did not know whether to bother answering or not but okay. First welcome to XDA, uhhh in easy laymens terms hacking is not for the inexperienced and it is not totally idiot proof so you should have some fair knowledge of the systems and what they do. Don't hack if you need a kindergarten book to explain it all out for ya simple as that. WP is closer too iOS than Android main point being it is the most secure as far as I personally care of the 3, and the system is just as smooth and fluid as iOS. No there are not alot of Homebrew available at the moment, but if you happen to have a phone able to be fully unlocked then you have the option to use many functions that were not available before.
Device specific is where you should such that search block is your best friend, nobody here is going to write a full guide to the whole forum section for every single new hack and crack that comes out. If you want to you are more than welcome.
Thanks pal
I'm ok with the concepts of hacking, just not specifically this OS.
I'm technically minded and do a lot of similar stuff elsewhere, but when it comes to the phone that I use daily, and comntracted for another 12 months with and have no experience with tinkering WP7 - Im slightly more nervous.
I guess my main issue was the d&h forum for WP7. Every sticky/thread is far too long and they all contain a lot of acryonyms that a new WP7 hacker wouldn't understand. So my forum instinct is to look for the sticky that says "start here - everything explained" - but there isn't one?!
It's almost like "where do people start if there is no starting point"?
As far as covering a good amount of info, this post is a good one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1299134
Don't really think there is a way to avoid all the jargon though, if there is something that isn't explained well it should be simple to find information to fill in the gaps. The terms used are very specific to the environment, so anything returned in a search would probably be relevant.
The most common homebrew option is Interop Unlock, Samsung models of phone are the easiest to unlock. This allows you to use native code that has not been wrapped in a tidy c# class.
The benefit of all this is that your phone is a full fledged computer that by default is locked down like an appliance. Developing additional homebrew apps allow you to get further phone customization out of your device, and therefore the most value out of your purchase.
I for myself thought about unlocking my device considering the risks involve. but I weighed the consequences. Thus, I end up now, having a fully unlocked HTC 7 Mozart with a custom rom. I am happier with my device now, I can do BT transfers, explore the folders within my device, install more applications than the usual apps/games from the marketplace, and tweak my device. One more thing, when my device was still running on stock rom, battery life is shorter, now I have 1.5x the battery life.
MY CONCLUSION: unlock your device's potential
as for the guides, yes it is not really like spoon feeding, but contents of the guides/tutorials are somehow progressive. one can learn from them, so that on the next development, we can do the "hacking" easier since we understood how the process goes. This is why it is called development. Cheers!
before i can give you advice on what hack that you can use, what is the name your device that way there are more specific hacks that we can talk about.
Hi
Thanks for the helpful replies.
I have a HTC Trophy. I'm doing the SD card upgrade next week to start with, so I can finally put all my music on it, so thought i'd look at hacking it at the same time.
Cheers

Looks like a good guide but how am I meant to know if I have a first or second gen phone....there's no definitive list?! And I can't remember what updates I have.
This is a nightmare - I'll give it a miss
check your processor, as far as i know, if your phone has 1.5GHz then it's a gen2, otherwise, it's just gen1
Let me at least give the "legitimate" talk about unlocking your phone:
For $99/year, sign up for a developers account with Microsoft (create.msdn.com). You can unlock up to 3 separate devices officially for app development. Then you can build and deploy all kinds of .xaps to your phone. To top it off, you can get the betas and early OS upgrades (had Mango almost 6 months before my friend got it from his vendor). Ultimately, you can even release your own apps to the marketplace for sale or for free.
sounds like, since this is a phone you use every day, this might be an investment worth considering. Its an easy and legitimate way for someone not too experienced with the phone's innards to get it unlocked and get exposed to how things work. Plus if you back up your phone vefore you unlock it, and something goes wrong, you haven't done anything thats voided a warranty. If the OS crashes, try returning to the "pre-unlocked" backup and bring it back to the store saying it crashed. They'll replace it. Nice deal, considering most Windows phones run around $500 to replace.
Now as for unlocking it via other means: maybe you dont want to sell apps. Maybe you dont really want to give microsoft a credit card for $100 every year. Maybe you want to just do more than a developer unlock will get you - like load a whole new aspect of the operating system. Or maybe you just dont want to pay to unlock your phone. Understandable, i suppose (though for MOST people, a developer unlock is more than sufficient). There are options, but they will require a lot of time and investigation (maybe even translation) to get it right, because the WP7 is new. The devices are many - its not like having a single hardware baseline to crack - like the iPhone. And to throw another monkey in the wrench, they did a full-fledged update to the OS not 6 months ago. So - no - not a a lot of "beginners" guides out there. Even for experienced people, an unofficial unlock is still a tricky feat. Take a look at the number of posts that have to do with phones randomly "re-locking" themsleves. Hell, I'm a legit developer and my phone "re-locked" itself last night. (turns out MS has a "lease" on deve unlocks that you need to physically update every year by un-registering and re-registering the device)
hope this was informative and helps.
I found exactly the same problem. Today I saw this post in the HTC Titan forum which helped me understand all the different unlocks that you hear mentioned on the web.
Hope this helped

HTC Desire 620 SIM Unlock - PLEASE HELP ME

Please can somebody here help to unlock my HTC Desire 620 that is SIM locked on EE. I desperately need to unlock it for a THREE SIM card.
This is my last resort. I have been searching Google for hours and following every instruction I come across but none have worked. I updated my HTC Drivers and Android USB drivers, enabled USB debugging and used a free tool offered by GiffGaff that didn't work. (it was posted in 2012) I've been scammed into filling out surveys and even paying for the code but each time it didn't work. I've followed youTube videos and all are either survey scams or another service you have to pay for. I
I've been trying for over 5 hours now and I'm so frustrated.
This is an old phone so the code must be known by people, surely?
Please help me. I don't have a phone at the moment and I need it for work tonight. ANY advice would be really appreciated.
I'm really hoping some clever engineer on here could help me and basically stick a middle finger up at all of the scam websites who exploit money out of people for a code. I find this highly unethical behavior and it is not in the spirit of the open source Android technology.
This scam make it incredibly hard to find to even find an unlock code if anyone has published it because the search engines and YouTube are both drowning in these pop-up websites who are hoping to scam money out of frustrated users directly or via surveys which don't deliver on if your tricked into doing it.
How so many people can be without any morals or sense of decency is beyond me. These scammers are literally charging people for a few number digits that they sell over and over again.
I searched deep into Google using advanced operators to try and flush out all of the scams with no luck whatsoever. I find it hard to believe that nobody has published a list of unlock codes for such an old phone like mine. (HTC desire 620)
Please Help me.

People, I just returned to the Samsung "fold" after a hiatus of several years. It's a Note 10+ 5G, with T-Mobile. While the improvement from my previous LG (AT&T) phone and experience is absolute (T-Mobile has turned out to be a wonderful surprise), what I was really hoping for was, among other things, the flexibility of rooting which I had with all of my previous Samsung phones. In fact, I had come to almost rely on rooting for some very simple reasons: to keep Google, Samsung and whatever other providers of hardware and software from becoming my life's "partners" within my phone! A simple example is Google's need to know my bodily functions, my contacts and my schedule even though all of that is well handled by other, non-Google systems. If I choose not to share my life with Google, the phone continues to function as required. But it (and Samsung, for that matter) keeps trying. I am reasonably proficient with ADB and use the work arounds with some success but it is annoying. Again, I am not out to subvert any system; I simply don't want to share my life with the hardware and software providers, at least, no more than is needed. My phone is unlocked. Is there any hope of getting root for the non-exynos version of this phone?

Taking the time you look on the forum would have answered your question. One thread in particular has a pretty active discussion (including from one rather knowledgeable person).
The summary of the whole "if this phone will have root" is basically this.. Samsung got it's act together with this phone. Will root be possible... Someday maybe, but not anytime soon.

I appreciate the admonishment about "taking the time" and I actually considered that I had. Unfortunately, my limited reading here and elsewhere resulted in the same conclusion that you reached, minus the aspirational portion! I guess I was hoping that, indeed, my reviews were truly insufficient and missing some obvious and positive answer.
Well, I got my answer! Much appreciated.
