Greetings,
I've been using LineageOS on my Moto G3 for about 6 months and I really enjoy it.
Currently I would like to create Wi-Fi hotspots with WEP security using my smartphone, but the only available options are WPA2 PSK or None.
Yes, I'm aware that WEP is not as safe as WPA2, but I would like to do that to play on-line with the Nintendo DS (using public servers) and that's not compatible with WPA2 cryptography.
That said, is there any way (App or something else) to create a Wi-Fi hotspot with WEP security on LineageOS?
Thanks in advance!

So I was trying out the new wpa2 encryption on wifi tether and noticed that when I had it turned on I couldn't connect, but soon as I turned off encryption it connected just fine. This is occurring with all 3 versions of wifi tether for evo 4g, both WPA2 and WEP.
I don't recall seeing WPA2 as a choice in the wifi tether I am using. I did use WEP with no problems though.
it's the new one on their site 2.0.5
I have been able connect with encryption. When connected on my laptop, XP showed it as WPA2.
If you are using XP, make sure you have the WPA2 encryption hotfix. I had this issue with my laptop on my home wireless because it's wpa2 which XP doesn't natively support without a hotfix.

I would love to use my Defy's 3G connection tethering it to my PSP over its Wifi tethering mode. So I can use my PSP to play online games. Anyone able to run this ??
psp doesnt support wpa2 only wpa and wep, try those!

My Defy doesn't have Wpa and wep. Only Wpa2. But using open network work fine with PSP connected no problem. Just that it become an open network which I rather not use it in public. Anyway we could enable these two wpa and wep for Defy?

Try Barnacle Wifi tether , it has the mentioned profiles I think though I am not sure. Wierd as I have those profiles in the stock hotspot app.

Considered it solved now since I'm using the "Allowed Device" under the Hotspot setting and entered my PSP MAC Address, it only allowed my PSP for connection without needing password.
However, I would like to know how to add those two WPA and WEP into my Defy hotspot instead of only WPA2 currently available option in display.
Is there a script or app or ROM that will enable Ad hoc network connectivity with WEP security?
In my classroom I have a mac sharing its wired connection over its wireless card - instant wi-fi. Until recently it has been unsecured and I connected my phone to the network via wi-fi.
Recently I've had to add a WEP password as students have discovered the SID. Now my Samsung won't connect. It sees it just fine but won't connect even with the password.
Please Advise how to make the connection.
Thx.
Aww man! No help on this?
To recap - I can see and join ad hoc wifi network when there is no WEP security in place. When I add a password then I can see the network and try to join the network, but when I enter the password nothing happens. It thinks for a while and then it disconnects.
Any solutions? Or recommendations about what would be the correct forum to ask in?
Sounds weird, as our phones don't normally support connecting to ad-hoc WiFi at all. The only ROM that does support it as far as I know is Alien ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1376482
I'm not sure how you managed to connect to ad-hoc in the first place, and if it's not ad-hoc then it should already support WEP out of the box.
I'm using the GingerSnap ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1418293
FiveOhFox, the dev, doesn't mention anything about adding this functionality but I've used it every day (Until I added the WEP and password).
Maybe I'm using the term adhoc incorrectly. This is a Mac, wired to our network via CAT-5 whose wireless card has had internet sharing turned on. This broadcasts a SID and allows wireless clients to share its internet connection - with our without WEP.
I have rooted my D710 and installed hotspot hack as well as wifi tether for root users from the google play. Both are working fine but the hotspot hack only provides WPA2 encription and wifi-tethering is either WPA2 or ad-hoc. Unfortunately, None of these encription wifi method is compatible with one of my devices. I know that device is a pretty old one but I am currently trying to put it on-line.
Do you know any tethering APP which provides WEP encription?
Thanks!
Hello,
The title says it all. I tried adding a WIFI under the 802.1x EAP Security protocol however there is no option for it.
Has anyone else tried this with the Moto 360 and been successful ?
Thanks
I'm having the same issue, can't connect to works WiFi, seems a massive oversight to me as most corporate networks won't be supported.
same here...
Indeed; having access to eduroam at work, I noticed this disappointing omission also.
Yea I noticed that the first day after the update, I was very disappointed as that is where i would use that feature the most.
Luckily we don't use EAP at work, but it looks like it doesn't support encrypted management frames in WPA2 networks too.
At least I had to set it from optional to disabled to get my watch to connect to my wifi at work
there's an open issue here. add some comments

Same issue has existed with Chromecast since its release. Probably won't be fixed.
