Battery drain like a hell from nothing... - Sony Xperia M5

Hello today i wake up but the phone doesnt
From 0:00 oclok to 8:00 in morning the phone battery
Disapear from 70+ percent to 0 and the phone was off.
The interesting is that the phone was untouched during
This period of time,no new apps instaled no internet
Access was allowed during that 8 hours nothin.....
Has anyone had a same issue or know how could this be posible... In the same time i think it could be battery issue because when its charged at 100% time remaining is very poor something like 22-23 hours...the another m5 shows 74 hours remaining at 100% and battery is holding percantage better very better than that one.The only difference between 2 phones is that the second one is newer with 2 months....
New disapoitment for me from sony might say....

P.s. I have just find out that cell stand by used 96% ot my battery since last charge ......

Is the location icon on?

No location off, wifi off,nfc off, wifi active during sleep off , sync Off , bluetooth off

The only thing I can think of is the location icon, it drains the battery even if everything is off but if you have location services off then I'm not sure

The cell stand by was the problem. Thanks

Eek. ! Where my battery go !

What the hell... Put my phone on charge last night around 8pm.... Left it till I went bed around 1am... So was fully charged..
Woke up this morning at 6:30 and my battery its down at 25% !
In the battery usage its showing cell standby used 35% and idle used near 40%..
Haven't installed any new apps lately.. Any ideas what's happened?
did you leave wifi on?
Not even active wifi should lead to such loss on power... at least if it's not used by any app in the background. Was the back of the phone warm as you held in hand? I experienced, that heavy usage can be also detected on the warming battery. If yes, you should browse the running apps and kill the unnecessary ones. And perhaps try to investigate the settings of the running apps.
Everything was the same as every other night since I bought the phone 3 weeks ago... I usually leave wifi on and it auto switches on or off when I get home or leave..
I don't recall the phone feeling warm..
Well I took the battery out and left it a couple mins .. Now it back up to full charge so will see how long I get this time...

Cool post Mas!
Actually, Im not using any battery saving app, but the Power Control widget you also mentioned is on my home screen. I think this does the job very well. Best battery saving app for me
No problem buddy. You should also give the Extended Controls app or Switch Pro widget from the Marketplace a try. Even they are both paid apps, they give you a selection of more controls, just like the HTC Power control app. One thing the HTC Power Control lacks is an auto-brightness toggle option, however, this and many more features (including theming) is available in both paid apps mentioned above... give them a try

Answer me this one then guys,
Phone fully charged, on flight mode, in sleep over night. Used 12% of the battery.
I'm really disappointed with the battery life of the Desire. I've set everything on the phone to update twice a day working day and manual after 5pm, Turned off the locate by GPS, turned off the constant internet connection and everything else I can really think off.
I hardly make any calls, it's mostly just sits on my desk with the occasional text. Yet still have to charge it by the afternoon!
It came off from a full charge just 2 hours ago and already down to 90% So that's 10 hours standby time!
Phone was picked up on Friday, so it's had a few days to gets used to it's cycles. What the hell am I doing wrong or do I have a naff battery?
Opinions please!

Hi Dan,
Running a Orange stock Rom. Could it be that Orange don't power manage very well?
I had seen somewhere already about the animated wallpaper draining power, so I've never had an one!
I'm really puzzled!

Not really played with an Orange ROM yet,,,, if your rooted why not try a different, more power handy, ROM and see how it goes, if all else fails and there is a error somewhere you can always flash back to Stock and make a return jobbie

My phone has been on for 19 hours now and it has drained the battery to 34%.
Now normally that wouldn't be all that bad, except I've had a 12 hour sleep and didn't do much with the phone except unlock the screen a few times to check the time and battery status.
Battery status tells me the following:
Phone Idle: 92%
Android system: 6%
Display: 2%
Airplane mode is on.
BT, wifi, mobile internet, account sync, background data and all that stuff are off.
So what is the big drainer in the phone idle catagory?
Think I have a similar problem but mine drains rapidly at 20ish percent on about 10 mins. If I charge it up to20% from 0 it will slowly drain as normal.

myself my wife and my son all have desires
my wife is the only 1 who has a live wallpaper and 3 nights ago i monitored her battery usage and over the course of 1 night her phoned used 7% of the battery.
mine uses more as i do more with it
Fixed my problem. If anyone else is wasting a lot of battery with " phone idle " try the following:
When phone has wasted battery during periods of not using it, type in
*#*#4636#*#*
then select " Battery History"
In this screen check what's sucking up your overnight battery by selecting: "partial wake usage"
For me it was weatherbug elite.
Got down from 80% to 70% this nights sleep so i'm currently very satisfied.

[Q] Battery consumption: I need your help for a comparison

I found a very good program for my Motorola MB525 (Defy) for monitoring the battery draining from the market.
It's name is Batery Monitor Widget and it's free.
With 81% of battery it says only 7 hours and 16 minute left without doing anthing!!! The data is on and Wi-Fi connected to my home network.
Is it normal?? In the night in airplane mode after 9 hours it drain 8%-9% of battery. Again: is it normal???
If you can try this application and report your results...I think there is some application that drain my battery!!
Thanks!
Not really a comparison here, just a little story.
Yesterday i screwed up my Defy playing around with some rom. Nothing terrible, but i had no time to re-flash another rom, i had to go to work. So, i pickep up my old SE xperia x1.
After an entire day, 4-5 calls and several sms, that phone drained less than 10%. Then, last night i put the x1 in stand-by, well, that was a real stand-by, no power consumption at all.
Now i'm back to Defy, 2 hours, 15% drained...
All this just to say android is amazing but terribly hungry of power, even when the screen is off, even when airplane mode is on. I don't need a comparison to know about it
EDIT:
you said your wifi was left on, well android is hungry of data too. Even if you do nothing while wifi is on an amount of data still flows, sometimes i can see several mb downloaded by my Defy in a few hours, but no real usage by me. This also contributes, you should try to turn the wifi off or disable background data when you don't need it.
In standby (3g, sync only calendar and contacts) I have 1-1.5% battery consumption / hour. I think this is normal
With my normal usage i have some 20-40% left at the end of the day... also Ok.
WIFI on & connected will consume a lot of battery so I am not surprised.
BTW I also had an Xperia X1 and the consumption was roughly the same as the Defy... In fact more than 1-2 days on a charge I very rarely had on any of my smartphones with normal usage.

last week I was working in the forest for a few days with no signal at all, so I turned on airplane mode: I remember it going from 45% in the morning to 42% in the late afternoon!
(with everything turned off, just used it occasionally to have an idea of what time it was)

It's ok to be an android fan, i like it too, as i said it is amazing. But, battery life is definitely NOT the strong point. I can compare the two phones now, at this moment. Honestly Defy's battery life is a lot shorter.

what's the other phone you compared?
I really don't have problem with Defy's battery life. As far as my memory serves, all cell phones I ever owned (7~8, all nokia, se, moto) could standby (just standby and don't use at all) for a week or made around 5 hours call. In my case Defy can also standby for a week or allow 5~6 hours usage.
I'm on a 2g network (probably helps alot), as I have wifi at home and at work. I have an exchange email, a gmail, 2 yahoo mails, and a weather app, all allowed to sync at default settings. I don't have facebook or twitter. GPS and bluetooth are enabled only when necessary (occasionally). I overclock Defy to 1000Mhz with SetVsel, and underclock to 300 when screen off. With conscious observation over some time, I find that 1% battery is consumed around every:
- 2 hours standby with wifi off; or
- 1 hour standby with wifi on; or
- 3~5 minutes usage (calls, emails, surfing,...)
thats some amazing battery life u got there abc ...what rom are u using?
hey guys, just a quick question. with which setting do you think i'll have longer battery life: 800MHz/58vsel or 1000MHz/56vsel? btw, i got my phone stable at 800MHz/45vsel

I was using the orange 2.2, and am using the finland 2.2 now. Both have similar battery usage.
But I have uninstalled some stock applications which I don't use but keep running in background, like BlurHome.apk (with Launcherpro), InPocketService.apk, ToggleWidgets.apk (with ExtendedControls), WeatherWidget.apk (with FancyWidget), VSuiteApp.apk etc.

You may be right, I had the Xperia X1 something like 1 year ago.
I had until now FSC T830, HTC Hermes, HTC Diamond, Xperia X1, Samsung i7500 Galaxy (my first Android), Acer Liquid and now the Defy. As far as I remember I always had to charge every night (or every 2 nights at best)
Overall I think Android battery life is worse than Windows mobile was BUT I also have more background programs running now than I had in the WM days.
What I definitely don't like in Android battery life is lack of consistency. One week you get30-40 hours at a charge and suddenly 12 hours... Than you have to make detective work: look what new App might be the guilty one, check what's running in background, reboot and see if it happens again, factory reset, etc. I guess this is the price of freedom
Im on uk 2.2 and i get three days at a push i jus have a weather widget on sync every 3 hours.
Iv also undervolted 300/16 600/29 800/39 with setvsel on performance mode and up threshold on 99% and limit to vsel 1 when screen iz off
Im on three uk so im constonly on 3g and use no wifi etc etc with normal sms usage and a few calls through out off 1 charge

There has to be something wrong in your case. I find that there seems no wifi/2g/3g connection. Could that be the problem?
I dont use 3g ..cuz its expensive in my country ..and I only turn wifi on when I need it
And that shouldnt be the case ...I think id loose a lot more battery if wi-fi would be on all the time

Huge battery drain

.Hello everyone,
Just got my G3 about 3 days ago, and so far the battery is going really bad for me.THis phone would consume the whole battery in just 6.5 hrs!!
I used to have Xiaomi Mi4 before it and it would easily make it the whole day -some times +18hr- on the same usage connections.
I've tried different roms and kernels, limited the CPU to 1.9GHz, set governor to powersave, set brightness to auto and then to 30% manual, and still all the same, nothing better! I don't play games or use huge apps, just facebook, whatsapp, 9chat, calls, and FaucClock.
On average, I lose +10% of the battery per hour, Is this normal for this device? The battery says it's 3000mAh but it's acting like it's 1450mAh!
UPDATE:
Yesterday I tried to drain the battery to 0% to charge it again by watching a Full HD movie. It consumed about 30% of the battery leaving me with 30%, that was on 02:48AM. Today I woke up at 9:00AM and there was 29% left, meaning it only consumed 1% in about 6hrs. using the phone would consume more than 5%/hr but the standby is getting really good and very stable. I'll be draining the battery and try to recharge it later hopefully it can get better than this.

I have the same, if not worse, battery drainage. I got my phone(new) yesterday. Just 40 minute ago o was charging it and after i plugged out o saw immediately how the battery was draining more like a % per minute . I looked in the the battery section to see that it'll stay on for 3 hours and 40 minutes. Now i'm letting it play on YouTube till the battery is empty-empty , do a recharge and if that is not the case, maybe i just have a faulty battery and hopefully not a faulty phone. Although i looked at the apps that were used in stand-by(over night) and i sow that Google services was using 16% battery in stand-by , something that i never had like that. Yesterday when my phone arrived it had already pre installed Lollipop 5.0 . After connecting to wi-fi the software updated once more with a small file, something like 120-160 mb, i'm not sure exactly. Now it says that it has the latest update - 20h . I'l do a few full discharge/charge cycles and if that doesn't solve the issue it must be the battery or the phone. Either way i hope i'll not end up returning the phone for testing , the though is already infuriating me a little.

I just hope it's the first few days of the battery life and it would get better by time, but tbh this is the first time I see something like this!
I don't know if it helps but I had similar battery drain after I install a new update of Android. It happened after every update.
For me the solution was a full wipe.
After it I can reach ~2days with ~4hours SOT.

At the time i posted here(post #4) my battery was at around 60 percent playing YouTube for the first real drainage of battery science i've got my phone. Now it's at 12 % with 26 minutes estimated till complete drain. I mention i have the speaker on mute. If i had it on the drainage would've been a little faster. Anyway, after the drain i'll recharge the battery and let it overnight in stand by with the wi-fi on. Also the location will be enabled so the data connection even though it's somewhat deactivated by the wi-fi on status. I enabled also bluetooth and NFC although those are more dormant than active. It'll be setted just as i'm using it daily . Now it's 12:14 AM Eastern Europe time. I'll post here the finishing time of charging/letting it in stand by. In the morning (my morning time ) I'll post again the battery percent. I'll use the phone normally with a little bit of everything . Wi-fi will be on all the time, so the voice network and from time to time i'll "simulate" a carrier 4g/LTE data only usage(YouTube, FaceBook and Mail). I'll post againt the time when the battery will be depleted completely.
It's now 01:12 and the battery is empty. I'll charge it and talk to you in the morning.
Check the SD card. do you still have a battry drain if the sd card is in the Phone?
i had the same problem. i toke the sd card out and my Phone was normal again and no overheated Phone.
i formatted my card to NTFS and it worked.

I don't have an SD card.
You have stock firmware?? And try to install os monitor and it tells you witch program is using the most!
On stock rooted firmware
I also don't have an sd card, and of course i did a phone reset before recharging. I'm getting a little worried dough. Last night it finished charging after 1 hour and 50 minutes. I immediately started tu setup the phone with the google account , did a google restore . Also i forgot to tell that i'm on Orange Romania and i do have some bloatware but i disabled all of it just to make sure that those apps won't interfere with my test. Already my battery was at 85% before going to sleep. I mention that my google restore does not take to much time . When i woke up 10.45 AM my time( now is 11.23 AM) the battery was at 75 percent. I stayed a little on YouTube and just answered a 30 second call and it's down to 67 % now. I am getting aggravated. I'll call Orange support to tell the about the situation and i'll ask them if i can firstly try to fix my problem alone by rooting the phone. If they don't like the idea of rooting my phone i'll try a few more charges/discharges .
Install OS monitor!
I'll try it. Thanks! By the way now the time is 15:56 and the battery is at 66%. So it lost 2 percent in 4 and a half hours(stand-by).
Ps: now that i woke it up for writing this post, it's at 63%.

draining battery fast.

First two days I had the phone it had great battery. I was getting 16-18 hours of life with 4-6 sot. Now the last two days at work it's worse than my op2. By the time I got home yesterday I was at like 35%. Previous days I was well over 60.My android system is taking most of the blame. On my good days it was at like 8% when the phone would die. Right now with my phone at 79% it's already at the top with 5%. I've barely used the phone while I'm at work right now. It's been unplugged for 3 hours and my sot is 35 minutes. Not sure if it's got something to do with the ambient display. Maybe finger print scanner. Any one have ideas?

Humm I thought it was the other way around. Nevertheless I have WiFi at work. Can't remember if I was on it though. I'll have to test that out.
You don't have to run a custom rom or loose dash charge cause your rooted. I'm still using stock oxygen 3.1.3,and have the basic functions like dash charge working. I'm not sure if you have to be rooted to use gsm, cause I'm always rooted, but it may gave you more specific insight as to what exactly is draining your battery quickly.

You know the image you attached, with the graph on it? Tap that and check the Awake heading. Is it one long solid blue bar? If yes: your phone stays awake (doesn't go in deep sleep mode). Does restarting it make a difference (i.e. does the solid blue bar get broken up)?
The problem emerged on my OP3 as well yesterday AND I had it on my prevous phone (a OPO). On the OPO the problem was that it wouldn't release a wakelock that kicked in during charging. While I haven't explored the problem on my new OP3 enough to know if this is the same problem, here's what fixed it for me if the problem is indeed charger related: when charged to your liking turn off your phone with the charging cable still in. Once turned off, remove the cable and restart the phone.

I'm not sure if you have to be rooted to use gsm, cause I'm always rooted, but it may gave you more specific insight as to what exactly is draining your battery quickly.

I'll have to check that out. I'll root today. Just haven't had a need with the OP3 I'm digging this version of oxygen and not missing any of my root abilities. Also I use android pay. But I guess I can live without it lol

Are you talking about under history details? I'll check tonight once my phone is drained. I did a battery cycle yesterday. Let it die and charged to 100 while it was off. We'll see how it goes today. And your saying it was an actual charger problem?
Heavy battery drain might have to do with the "pocket problem". The fingerprint sensor constantly activates and is not properly blocked by the proximity sensor.
There are several threads and posts about it, here and on the oneplus forums...

Yea I had that once in a while with my op2 I'd take the phone out of my pocket and it would say too many attempts at the scanner. Nothing on this phone like that though. And of course today is a different story with the battery lol its good today. So maybe it's while I'm at work. Idk it's odd. I need some more testing. Currently I'm at 9.5 hours on battery with 56% left and almost 3 hours sot. I'll see how this week goes at work and see if I can diagnose anything
I've been having this problem as well, losing as much as up to 20% of battery overnight, while it was doing absolutely nothing. I've tried a couple of things, but last night it 'only' drained 5%, betterbatterystats reports 0.6% of drainage per hour.
I think this is due to the weather option in the launcher, could anyone else try turning it off and see if battery life improves significantly?

You don't even need to do that. You can just check it after an hour or even less. Just put the phone away for an hour with the screen off and check history details.

Not quite. I'm saying it was a wakelock that kicked in during charging and that wasn't released when I took the phone off the charger. I don't know if it was the charger caused the wakelock.
Great for two days now I'm leaving work with 45% battery and only an hour and a half sot. Unplugged for 9 hours. Idk I feel like it's hit or miss

Battery question

Guys,
can someone (2, or 3 people) post their battery estimated time left when the phone is 100% charged. I think i have a faulty one but i dont remember what was the estimated time left for a phone with good battery. I know its estimated but i have mine showing 15 hours left when 100 charged, so i think its dying again...
Someone? PLease?
three days and 20 hours, still on original battery.
My device Z1c rooted and Existenz custom ROM using...in my device it showing 1 day and 30 mins. So my battery is faulty...?

i didn't say that's how long it lasts. just how long it estimates when it's at 100%, which is what you asked.

Your battery is dying. Time to get a new one. There is a thread for that issue here.
Battery currently 50% and says I have approx 1day and 1hour left.(stock Android 5.1)
My GSAM Battery Monitor says I get average 1day 19hr per charge with average over 2months.
I'm on stock 5.1 with root access and have my phone tool'd up with frequency/governor management and stuff like powersave governor for screen off and etc.
Battery use is very subjective on a wide range of settings, location, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, telephony signal strength, LTE and general usage patterns, so one person's setting/use will not reflect another.
That said, one should get 24hrs easy even with over 4hrs SOT.

Do you think that the estimated time left showing is relative to the user experience/history?
I got 15 hours estimated time left when 100%, bu I play a lot of games with it, thats why I ask. If its not, than my battery is dying...

The Z1C battery stat's reflect the current real-time usage and project the available time left based on what is currently happening.
If your phone is configured optimally and you don't use your phone over night, it should only use approx 5% of battery.
If you use GSAM Battery Monitor you can check if any apps are keeping your phone awake, number of time your phone is woken and high CPU users.
You can check for telephony signal strength.
My phone is 100% signal strength (very good)
How much power is used to keep your screen displayed, with dimmer better.
Also you can see if your phone is in deep sleep when phone is not in use.
Over a 12hour period my phone is in deep sleep for 9hrs.
Use another phone for a couple of days and leave the Z1C with screen off for those few days.
If not used you should see over 3 days of battery life.
There is no answer to your question.
At the end of the day it's up to you to optimise your phone as best you can and base your decisions on previous battery use/experience with your known workloads.
If you're not gaming for a day or two and you have your phone as optimised as you can, then, 15hrs is crap and your battery is on the way out.

Im not playing any games today to see how far the battery is going to last.
thanks anyway
15 hours estimated battery but it hold ~19 hours. Still horrible since i used very lttle of the phone today
Sot = 47 mins.
Yep, battery is dying
damn
Sony Xperia Z1C Battery
Attached is a snapshot of the battery use in my Z1C running Android 5.1 stock with root access.
As noted, when the phone is not in use the battery almost flat-lines with very little use.
When battery use is almost a perfect triangle on the two axis and from 100 to 0%, then it's a good indicator the battery is failing/failed.
Replacing a battery on a Xperia Z1C ...well it sucks...to say the least :crying:
You need to add additional adhesive on the top left near the camera location as that's the area that tends to come unstuck after the back cover is replaced.
Also good batteries for an Xperia Z1C may be hard to find now.
The original batteries are marked with the manufacture date as yy-ww (Year and week[0-52])
If you find an original battery AND it DOESN'T have the NFC conductor glued on it, then you have a good chance of getting a good battery.
If the NFC conductor is glued onto the battery, then there is every chance the battery is just an old one pulled out of a previous Xperia Z1C.
Good luck.

Thanks man. How much SOT do you have in a 100% cycle? Your battery seems like awsome watching that print screen.
My little z1c is a frankenstein. I already changed the battery one time, the back cover 4, times. I repaired the mic, and changed the screen two times.
My screen is a generic one wich must be set to 100% auto brightness.. That also affects battery, but even so i think my batt is dying...

A tube of glue and an Xperia Z1C are almost synonymous with each other these days.
I had to glue the bottom speaker cover and the magnetic charger back on again... plus the back cover several times.
Currently I have used 25% of the battery and 2hrs SOT as seen in the attached.
I get a reported ~7hrs of on screen time per 100% charge cycle.
Email, WhatsApp, web browsing using RSS in Opera Mini, Tapatalk, Shopping apps, system/file management, Youtube and etc... (No gaming nor social Facebook, Twitter, Tinder...and etc)
Deleted all Bloatware out of /system/app and system/priv-app.
Update - ..ummm.. is Clash of Clans and Battle Command gaming...me thinks not.. but maybe it is.. ..any way throw a 15min mix of that into the pot too.
If you're not using much CPU you'll get more SOT, which is why gaming is a bad indicator as it's hard on CPU and screen, unless you have a game that does not get updated anymore(known stable unchanged test environment) and you benchmarked it a few years ago.
Then you can use the same game as a good indicator for any current status changes.

2 hrs SOT is awsome for 25% battery. I got 1 hour for 100%. But it doesnt mater. I bought another generic battery yesterday (originals are almost impossible to find). So lets see what it happens after.
