A few days ago my phone was exposed to rain for a while and some water managed to get inside through the bottom part of the phone.
To be safe I put it in a bag with silica gel overnight, but when I turned it on the next day (after 13h), it turned itself off after a few minutes.
So I put it back in the bag and went to buy a t2 screwdriver.
Here are some pictures I took of the damage, after the first rough cleaning with alcohol.
Since I'm not allowed to post links and there is no resize function, I'm posting the full images.

Small amounts of corrosion on several of the components, but hopefully nothing too bad.
Some corrosion on the side, but that shouldn't really matter.
There was a significant amount of green corrosion/goo on the components between the battery connector and the screen connector, and since that is part of the motherboard, that's what I'm most worried about.
Since I took the pictures, I have ordered a new bottom board (that I will get in a month), and cleaned the affected areas as well as I can using switch cleaner/alcohol, but I'm having a hard time removing all of the tiny bits of corrosion.
So, how does it look?
Any tips for cleaning inbetween the tiny components without damaging them.
What do I need to do to be able to safely turn it on again?

The other month the metal frame round my Desire came loose to the point that it protruded quite uncomfortably in the hand. I bought and fitted a whole new case which was no problem, however now it lets in a lot of dust, mostly through the middle left of the screen, and I'm not talking about a little bit of dust, it lets in crazy amounts that after 2 weeks ends up obscuring the screen completely and I have to take it apart and clean it. I've added a couple of photos to show what I mean:

I think it's to do with the seal but I'm not sure exactly. Anyone else had this issue, or could help? Thanks.
There is a bit of a seal between the glass and the metal in the desire which you might need to replace one way or another. I also think the glass is put on during manufacture in vacuum conditions.
People who repair watches or replace batteries on watches that require to go x number of meters under water have to go through a similar process. Might be worth seeing what they can do.
it's quite unfortunate. Good luck with sorting out the issue.
I have the same problem. I once dismantaled the entire thing, cleaned out the dust and put it back together. It mostly got cleared for a while but then came back.
I've gotten used to it now...
Bought a G3 for the wife, listing said the display brightness was dim, I figured no big deal.
Sent it in for warranty, it came back as water damaged and didn't work at all after that. I called and complained that it was in worse shape than when I sent it in (not about the water damage) but they didn't care, exclaiming "water damage!".
I tore into it and saw where they marked the damage:

They also didn't bother connecting the front camera, but anyway...I stripped it down to the board and as a last stitch effort, soaked the damaged portion in 91% iso alcohol for 1/2 hour, removed and dried it out, put it back together and crossed my fingers.
...IT WORKED!!! Backlight and all!
Just wanted to share my small victory.
Excellent work!
Any chance of a small step by step? My help other users.
Well there really wasn't much to it.
Follow these instructions to step 8:
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/LG+G3+Screen+Replacement/33203
Take the motherboard out and soak it in iso alcohol, the higher the percentage the better. I wouldn't use anything less than 91%.
I didn't soak the whole motherboard, only the part that I circled because that's all that was "damaged".
Please do so at your own risk!!
As I said, this was a last stitch effort to get the corrosion and moisture off the components that were damaged, I figured I had nothing to lose as it wasn't working in its current state.
This is the only part, the entire ribbon cable connecting the buttons and either the sim or SD card slot(not sure which is which) to the motherboard, that is not shown in any guides I've found on how to replace it.

It looks to me like you might have to fish the whole thing through the opening for the card slot but I just wanted to double check. Anyone?
Never mind. I was right. You gotta peel back the foam tape on back back to reveal the SD card slot, which turns out as you can see connected to another part, some sensor in the front I guess related to the front cam. You gotta carefully pry it upwards as it's glued down. thin razor blade. Idk, at this point I barely know what I'm looking at lol. This phone is the worst to dig into. Get yourself some near sighted glasses or something. Recently learned this phone has the worst score for repair ability. I do confirm this. Good luck if you're planning on replacing anything in here.
guys i just want to express my expirience with mi6 and his water splash ressistant. it is FAKE. few hours from now i exposed it to little water splash, dry it with paper and after a 30 seconds my screen start to flickering. flashing, and phone rebooting every 30 seconds.. i suspect in water and home button but not was sure until i put off rear glass panel and see this.. sealing is all over the panel except where buttons are.. there phone is not sealed, and if you put it in water, water will go inside your phone like did i mine. how stupid of you xiiaomi..
i cant belive this.. this is serious problem in construction design.. MI6 is not water splash resistant at all.. avoid all water contacts..
hopefully after i unpluged battery, take compressed air for electronics in can and blow out water from that area and now phone works..
pictures..

Damn man, bad luck, how are you gonna revive it now? And thanks for the info mate.
It works after this. Transparent double tape all around and 5 hours is good..
Never near water again..

The screen has cracked for a very long time but still functional. Just now, it fell once again and then a white-ish thin line appeared at the very right corner, but I ignored it as it does not disturbed me. Few hours later, I think i put a little pressure into this pressure (But I'm pretty sure i am not, because my the only thing i did was to put it inside of my jeans pocket) and poof! Half of the screen cannot be seen clearly (refer picture). But still could function as in I could still use the touch screen mode at the affected area. Could this lcd screen problem be saved without replacing the lcd with a new one? Replacing it is my last resort if I could save it DIY. Help me, thanks!
Yeah, sure, via a software update. That'll also give you wireless charging, but only if you charge the phone inside the microwave.
You've cracked the screen! What sort of DIY fix you assume can exist, besides replacing it?
tired of cheap ebay screens, what replacement screen do yall recommend?
OnePlus RMA. It isn't overly expensive.
From memory, it was around £90 for me.
