No voice service after Android 8.0 upgrade - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Phone: Nexus 5x
Carrier: AT&T
Stock - not rooted
Physical condition: flawless
After the Oreo 8.0 upgrade, voice service no longer works. AT&T confirms that everything looks good on their end.
SMS, DATA work flawlessly. Voice - no dice. If you call the number, it rings three times, then goes to VM. This phone does receive new voicemail, though.
The following has been done:
1) Factory reset (recommended by Google Support)
2) Reset network settings
3) Turn data on / off
4) Go into airplane mode / leave airplane mode.
5) Many, many reboots
When you attempt to make a phone call, it acts like it's going to make a call, but fails. Neither Google nor AT&T know what the problem is.
Any thoughts on this one? I'm a bit perplexed.

Downgrade to nougat. Oreo is the worst android that has been ever created. This system has nothing more than bugs and problems

Google Play Services kills call volume.

So I noticed about 2 months ago that I have absolutely no sound (voice in/out or ringing while call is being placed) when I make or receive calls using the Phone app. I have various VOIP apps that all work fine. All media plays fine. Headsets all work fine for watching movies and whatnot. No sound during calls.
I had a factory unlocked N7100 that I was told came from Spain originally (I'm in Toronto). I had flashed some other country (I think South Africa) because they got a newer version and my phone wasn't updating automatically. Never had any issues until I noticed this with the calls. I have no idea how long it's been like that as I have a second phone I use primarily for voice calls and this one I usually just use basically as a tablet or I use VOIP apps for calling.
Yesterday I tried to flash to DN4 2.1 but after numerous times it would never get past the Samsung logo so I went with a France 4.4.2 stock ROM. That one has since autoupdated. Everything is working great including data. I can place calls and the other line will ring but there is no audio in/out of my phone (other end can't hear me, I can't hear them). Although it's not a huge issue for me I'd like to fix it. I have previously messed around with hidden menus and possibly even tried to play modifying with the phone app (as various hidden menus stopped working after the last update and I was trying to get them back). But when I was trying to get DN4 to work I wiped EVERYTHING repeatedly so I don't think anything could be hanging around to mess stuff up.
I don't think it's a hardware issue otherwise why would it work fine for VOIP using the same mic and speaker? Also, it doesn't work through a headset either. No voice, no ringing, etc.
Currently my phone is showing the following:
Baseband:
N7100XXUFNG1
Kernel:
3.0.31-4587314

Instant call volume after I do this. But now my Google apps don't work. I need a better solution!
Edit: Nevermind, turned them back on and calls are still working. Hopefully it doesn't stop working the moment I need to make an emergency call or something.

Verizon Lumia 735 on T-Mobile - bad signal / no LTE after 10.0.14393.1593 update

So tantalizingly close to full functionality of Verizon Lumia 735 on T-Mobile network, but after a blissful full day of trouble-free operation, back to phone not connecting to LTE, with connection to lower-speed signal cycling on and off.
Timeline:
On July 23rd, had phone working well after upgrade from WP8.1 to 10.0.14393.1480. While travelling in Canada (home service is in US) phone continued to work well. Until I connected to hotel WiFi on 8/8, and - thank you automatic updates, and why can't I find a way to make hotel WiFi be seen as a metered connection?? - received an update to 1593. But that update didn't successfully complete due to me not being connected to WiFi when system restarted later in the day. Phone stopped working reliably at this point.
At home: fresh install of 8.1 via Windows Device Recovery Tool - phone functioned well, picking up LTE wherever present. Ran that for a few days without problems.
Upgrade (via regular channel - upgrade advisor app, phone update settings panel). After all updates successfully completed, phone was again running 10.0.14393.1593. Bad behavior immediately after 1593 update, but one more power off/on restored normal operation. I had a full day of excellent operation with this setup - in fact, stronger / more consistent LTE than I had been getting with 8.1.
...and then... nothing. Phone just stopped picking up LTE, is mostly without signal, and no amount of power cycling or soft resets kicks things back in line.
I've tried:
Added MMS APN as I had done in the past here. Didn't expect that to have an effect, and it didn't. But I had that change in place last time my phone was working, so what the heck.
Showed and then selected "4G only" as highest connection speed in SIM settings. (To make option available, used Interop Tools to add registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Cellular\MVSettings\IMSISpecific\Default\CellUX\HideHighestSpeed4GOnly = dword:0). With this setting in place, network search shows multiple LTE networks available. But selecting mine (T-Mobile LTE) still resulted in SIM settings showing "no network found" for active network.
Tried to get more detailed information via Field Test (enabled ##3282# as per here, for instance. Sadly, this appears to not be a functional option for my phone. Field test launches and gives me the "do not change any values..." warning, but after I click accept, it shows nothing other than the "field test" text at the top of the screen.)
I have only guesses as to why my phone went back to crap functionality after things went swimmingly for a day: background restore of earlier backup? Silent update of one or more Windows components a day after 1593 update was completed? Attempted silent update failed? When bad behavior set in yesterday, it was a few hours after I connected to WiFi - possibly relevant. Running Pasquale Pignataro's Device Diagnostics Hub always shows "Backup Assistant Plus" as one of the processes currently running. I'm guessing this is the non-functional Verizon thing I can't delete nor configure nor run from the control panel; but since it's a Verizon thing, it could possibly be messing with my off-network bliss? Or there is a Microsoft app/agent with the same name and it had a hand in my day-after-fix problems?
Wish my question could be more focused, but that's all I've got. Hoping some of you might have an idea of where I can start digging.
After hard reset, and turning off automatic app updates, phone did pick up LTE perfectly with 10.0.14393.1593 installed, and again worked for about a day before tanking. On the bright side, the loss of functionality isn't permanent, (though it's unpredictable and finicky). Basically: Once LTE is connected properly in one location, I have a very good chance of continuing to get LTE wherever I go. However, at any point, if/when I lose LTE signal, the phone can fail to see it for reconnection - it gets stuck cycling through none/2G/3G/none... for phone signal. I've had some luck getting it back into a good state with a soft reset followed by cycling the power on/off one or more times. Sometimes that puts things right for a full day or more, but sometimes (like just now), I get back into the bad state after a short time of having LTE. Might be tied to making a phone call.
This screams software issue to me, and my gut feeling is that it's Verizon-specific software that's likely to blame. I've so far seen and ignored updates for Verizon's backup assistant, and one other that's simply "name not available". Is there a known way to uninstall the Verizon apps like backup assistant? I haven't been able to find one with my searches. Happy to muck around in the registry, etc. as needed.
Wow, you know my pain. I recently (2 days ago) jumped from Verizon to T-Mobile (job related) and have the exact same problem. Go figure... Anyway, hoping someone may have had some luck looking into this, but I am guessing not. fingers crossed. I also have the Alcatel Idol 4S Windows 10 shipping, but hoped I could keep this one kicking.
Thanks for any help.

HTC 10 - disconnect data connection when GPS app used or phone call on THREE SIM?

Hi all,
Hope someone can help me....Been googling and searching this forum - but nothing definitive found...
I had a HTC 10 which had been working perfectly fine for over a year, all usual stuff, email / web, satnav etc etc.
I recently sold the phone and did a factory reset before sending the phone to the new owner.
He has reported that everything is fine with the phone except the following:
1) When he starts a Satnav application (using GPS) the phone disconnects from the 3g/4g network - ie no data connection.
2) When he makes a voice call, a few moments into the voice call the data signal goes again - i.e. the signal level indicator has a line through it
I have no reason to doubt the buyer, as he is being very helpful - trying factory resets, re-installing apps etc and even uploaded a video showing the above happening. He has even agreed to try a wipe cache partition.
I did google and read about O2 network having some issue about no data during a phone call - but he is on the Three network. And I cant find anything on the GPS causing data connection drop.
He really wants to keep the phone, so if anyone can provide any suggestions or advise on how to resolve this - it would be appreciated..
UPDATE: Only seems to happen with Three SIM - has tried more than one including a brand new SIM supplied by the local Three Store.
Thanks!

Help!! Note 10+ cellular and call problems after the Android 10 update.

Hi everyone, I'm having terrible time with my note 10+ after the update. Basically after leaving the phone for a couple of hours it disconnects from everything even though that it shows full service. When that happens I am not able make or receive call, cannot use internet at all I cannot even use the SMS. Activating the airplane works but as I said for a couple of hours. Also the process of activating the airplane mode takes like 30 secs or more. I've tried everything (resetting network settings, restart, changing the SIM, used different carrier and factory reset) none of them worked. Yesterday I went to the local samsung store and they said to me that they heard of this problem from 3-4 more owners and said that these problems are common between S10s and note10s which has updated to the Android 10 recently and It will be fixed with a software update but the samsung customer services says the otherwise they are saying that they do not know anything about these kind of problems with those phones. Does any of you guys having problems like that or is it just my phone?

Question Answering calls is very unreliable (unable to answer and/or dropping calls after 10 seconds)

I am frustrated with the phone application, for me it works only reliable for outgoing calls.
I have two major issues
Incoming calls frequently drop/disconnect while answering (unable to even start a call).
I get an incoming call notification, slide to pick up. The screen becomes gey and nothing happens for a while until a missed call notification is displayed and the home screen.
Successfully answered calls frequently drop/disconnect after 10 seconds of talking. The connection stays open but I no longer hear the other side. The other side no longer hears me.
I have tried:
- disabled WIFI calling,
- Disabled 2G fallback,
- cleared the phone applications cache
- reset networks/carrier settings
- as last effort even factory resetting the entire phone
The software is fully updated:
Android 13, build TPIA.220905.004
Is this a know issue? Are there any fixes for this?
EDIT: Google is replacing my phone, they confirmed this is a known issue
i have same issue with calls. do you have e-sim installed? my problems started right after e-sim setup
It's because of the poor modem, it's a fairly well known issue for the P6 and there's no fix. It's a hardware problem.

Yes, I have an esim + regular installed.
Reached out to Google support who confirmed it is a known issue under internal investigation. I need to wait two weeks to see if they can push a software update. Bit disappointed by that, they must be aware that if you are affected by this you have this issue since its purchase. I expected a swap or refund and would be very surprised if they fix this so late in the game.
