[Discussion] OTAs on Rooted Huawei/Honor phones- Confirmed

Saw many post from new users and senior members as well and most of the time there are lot of confusion on the OTA part, especially for the rooted phone. Few says it gets (I am one of them) and few says it doesn’t as rooting capabilities modifies the system boot.img and also we have unlocked bootloader so device wont get the OTAs. I have been using the Huawei/Honor phones for 2 years now and have been getting all the OTAs on rooted phone and confirmed the same many time but still there are lot of confusion and users thinks they wont get OTA on rooted phone.
Just confirming here that you will receive OTAs on rooted phone without any issues. This is 2nd update on my phone since rooted in past 2 months.

Note- I am not using any firmware finder or other things for this as I dont trust on FF as it messed my Honor 5C in February and I given up on it.
Instructions-
If you are rooted but then rolled back to stock recovery, just download the OTA and update.
If you are rooted with TWRP recovery, flash the stock recovery first and then download the OTA to update. (TWRP wont be able to update OTA)

Check my screenshots above, I'm already on Magisk and i receive updates. (Being rooted systemless should give more chances than SuperSU for this)

But there is a bug, , the keyboard does not pop up in order to write the password in wlan settings. Neither copy paste works from Miui activation
If you manage to have an open wifi to activate the device , when you finish the activation , you are in the lockscrea and it aske you to enter youir pin,. to unlock. When you enter the pin the devise get in recovery.

Don't have face unlock, can fix it bro ?

Keyboard is working fine.

I flashed this rom lots of times. But i always get camera problem. Device cant connect to the camera.
I Flashed fastboot ro, checked Camera was OK! then, install Twrp>>Wipe Data>>YES>>Delete everything>>Install Rom Again = Still Camera problem.

Is it true as stated in the official website that this ROM a-GPS is only optimized for Spain? Does anyone here can confirm that the Mi 8 GPS works without any issue outside of Spain region? Thanks

Nice rom but show non english word when unlock mi in setup but this rom better than EU rom.

unfortunately this rom also has the bug where GPS stops working after a while,the same as all other aftermarket miui roms I tried. developers are actively working on it, I hope they figure it out soon.
im not sure ob out optimisation for Spain, but as far as I understand it only means GPS might connect slightly slower in other regions.

Thanks for notified us that this ROM still has that annoying GPS issue. I'm about to flash the TWRP and wipe my whole internal storage (again!) in order to try this ROM.

This rom GPS accuracy 14m but no problem to me

Drove 900km with the latest Xiaomi.eu and no GPS problem

Pie for Max 3

Coming from Mi MIX 2.. is there an Android 9 Pie build for Max 3 either official Xiaomi or from elsewhere Lineage, Nitrogen etc ?

MIUI on Android Pie is announced for Q4 2018. Apparently, there will be beta soon

Project treble GSI builds are available. Not flawless, but most things work when vendor fixes are applied.

Next week dude.

Latest China beta was the last based on Oreo so next one will have pie

Who is xiaomi.eu!? Bunch of modders just like many of us... No authority... I bet they have red it on Xiaomi forum somewhere... A little better but still no authority... And as usual no word from Xiaomi itself... No surprise there...

Im trying to figure out what we've got with android pie. Muiu is still miui. Of course - fresh security patches.
Does anyone know what else?

8.11.22 is out and its still 8.1. The only thing that is confirmed is xiaomi.eu isn't a reliable source.

If you ready official post from Xiaomi beta was suspended on mi max3 for testing Android 9 so yeah it was last beta with 8.1 on China dev

I think it is already here. Maybe they will soon be available to everyone

What would be the proper procedure to update a twrp/magisk rooted tablet?

Uninstall Magisk, Flash stock recovery, Update to pie.
That's how I'd do it.

Dates may not be exact as my mother's A7 (2018) is already on Pie despite the official roadmap shows an April 2019 release

With Android 8 I don't like this tablet very much (I come from an iPad) I see everything too thick

I was very hyped for pie but then a see it on my A8 and they ****ed up the split screen:so annoying to activate without "long press recent apps to activate"...

exactly, and we should consider bugs on very first release since as soon as I can see there is no beta version (well maybe it does exist and was not leaked, but as foor s9+ we are not able to check the bug in advance and report).
will whait for yours opinion before upgrading... ?

You need to download the rom and flash with Odin....

I hope this update fixes the crooked scrolling effect in portrait mode. It is so noticeable for me and plays with my OCD something chronic...

I have the same model, and no, there isn't an update out yet. The one that is available from France is only for the LTE version.

Question ROM development?

I'm not looking for an ETA. However, I haven't seen any ROMs available for this device. The new format in XDA is a little bit clunkier to navigate for this information. Is there a ROM or more for installation?

So far I've seen graphineos and calyx rom. As for the new format, get used to using the website not the app. Only real way to use it nowadays without separate sub forums

There's also Proton.

Use the website not the app and when you navigate to p6p there are tabs on top of the forum that say development, question, general, theme apps and mods, and accessories. Tap one of those and it shows you all threads tagged as those

So many ROMs are not on xda anymore. most aren't ready yet. Currently there's GrapheneOS, CalyxOS and ProtonAOSP - all 3 are 100% stable.
edit--- a few more options listed below. ton's of options for the 6 series.

Scorpion and crDroid are working on getting bills up, and PixelDust is also getting to that point, crDroid is the closest to a be release. A lot of roms have moved to telegram for the most part.
Oh, and Static has a version for this device.

Statix is beta only and won't be released officially until someone of the dev team will get the 6 pro. The released build is a blind build.

The first build of crDroid was released last week. I flashed it a few days ago and it's running great.

I tried to apply a substratum theme and the handset just went blank, I could only reboot the phone so be careful with themes. Back on stock cuz I don't like the selinux being permissive
