Lineage vs apk - LineageOS Questions & Answers

Hi all!
i have lineage 14.1 on my hlte and it woks, but i cannot install any APK downloaded from web.
i activated "unknow souces" but nothing is changes.
Do you have some ideas?
and.. is in the righr place?
thx to all

You could try the cheaty way and that's by copying the apk's to /system/priv-app and rebooting the phone, they will install
Sent from the beige bra section at Target.

I would try the"Reset to Default" option, and then just re-enabling the "Unknown Sources" option.
Sent from my MLS IQ1855 using XDA Labs

You could try using adb to install an apk file from your computer, assuming you have enabled android debugging in developer options and have adb on your computer.
$ adb install /path/to/downloaded-app.apk
or
C:\> adb.exe install D:\apks\download-app.apk

[Q] ADB don't see my phone

Hi, I have a problem with ADB: when phone connected check if adb sees it with the command 'adb devices' shows me the error 'can not connect to daemon, Create Process failure, error 2'. Of course, all of the drivers installed, even i installed a lot of unnecessary packages to be sure sdk is installed correct. I have tried many ways but it's all for nothing. The important thing is that before starting play with the Desire Z went without any problems, without any errors adb seen the phone. Unfortunately, because of the desire goes to sell had to restore it to factory condition, but I had to get rid of the other phone so the Desire Z came back to me. Since then the problems started. If anyone would have any idea kindly ask for help. Thanks in advance.
I assume you made sure adb is turned on on the phone. Try uninstalling then reinstalling the drivers. If that doesn't work (i assume you have windows) change the path in environmental variables. You can try adb kill-server then adb start-server
See if any of this helps

Which ROM are you using? I had similar issues with some CM7.2 builds.
If you have the option “ADB over network” in “Developer options” try to switch it on/off. It helped for me.
Thanks a lot for answers but i already did all this methods :/ Realy dont help. And about my rom i have stock 2.2 at the moment, that's why i need adb...for root,S-OF
Have you tried a different USB cable? Sometimes it will work for charging and such but will not work for adb or fastboot, only poorly made cables are like this so its rarely an issue. I still think the problems lie in th drivers, did you uninstall and manually install the right ones? Don't let windows do it
Sent from my Desire Z using xda premium
Yes sure i tried with 3 different cabels and always install drivers manual on system partition C:
Looking back over your posts it looks like you can even start adb on your computer, phone/cable makes no difference if you can't open adb. What exactly is your path in environmental variables? My guess is this is set up wrong. Find the folder that adb.exe is in on the computer and make sure the path is set correctly to this.
And just for fun, find the folder, find adb.exe, hold shift and right click within that folder. Now choose open command here. Now type just
adb
What happens?
If you need help setting adb up I wrote a fastboot guide (includes setup for adb/fastboot) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728208
Check out the third post for instructions

Listen i read about installing sdk 2 years ago, i have of course path edited correctly to the folder where adb is...
Which API do you have? Older ones put adb in tools, newer in platform-tools, if you just open a command and type adb (without phone even connected) it should open. If not then you will need to change directories (or the path) if it still won't run then you don't have adb.exe installed correctly.
What happens when you open a command prompt from within the folder adb.exe is in? Have you tried that?
Adb does not need a phone connected just to run, having the right drivers won't matter if adb isn't even running on pc.

Btw. now im installing again sdk, tell me is it normal on start of installing packages i see: "Installing Android SDK Platform-tools, revision 14
Stopping ADB server failed (code -1)."
Or is it a problem and that's why i cant work with adb ?
Completely uninstall all of the SDK and remove your path in environmental variables. Then install SDK directly from google, install all the platform tools (the whole first section) make sure you check you updated java (jdk needed?) Open a command window where adb is and type adb and check for error codes, if all is good then update path in environmental variables

Tell me if i delete PATH accidentally can i create it again in environment variables ?
Yup, and just so you know creating a path just makes things easier, it isnt needed. If you want just open the command where adb.exe is located or change directories.
Sent from my Desire Z using xda premium
And in PATH i should only add "C:\SDK\platform-tools" nothing more ? Sorry for my noobish questions, i didnt work with Android for 7 months i lost a lot of memories
I remember i should always add backslash on the end right like: "C:\SDK\platform-tools\" ?
yep and don't forget to seperate the values with a ;

About drivers i should install HTC Driver installer and HTC BMP Driver ? All in same location ? Best on partition system C or other ?
EDIT: I tried so hard as i can and now everything work, adb se my phone and my Desire Z is rooted Thanks a lot for all answers.

To any and everyone who knows how. Which way is the proper way as of Today to root the kf2? To many videos and guides they confusing me and then when I tried a method i saw on youtube it wouldnt recognize my device but then again it was for the 6.3 version I believe. I need this rooted before christmas because I'm bought it to give as a gift but without root I feel like playing frisbee #frustrated
Took me 10seconds to find this thread which works for the KF(2) (also reported for the 10.2.4 firmware)...just follow the steps (before make sure you got the right adb driver installed) and you device should be rooted!

OK so I just tried and it does NOT recognize my device I installed drivers uninstalled drivers and re installed them again AND I dl the drivers that came in the Qemu root method and like always my laptop says that the drivers are already installed and when I click next anyway it tells me I have latest version .....What gives maaaaaaan? #headache
I found that I had to plug out the kindle. Un install the device from device manager. Then with adb already enabled plug it back in. Then it should fail to automatically install the driver from there you can install.

How I re-rooted the KF2 after much aggrivation and little sleep
Actually, I just re-rooted but, was not that simple. Had to do some manual commands using adb to push su and whatnot. Took several fails, too.
Credits to all of XDA-devs
First thing you have to do tho is: Navigate to your Android SDK folder and download the newer drivers for the KF2 then update the drivers in Windows. Launch "Android SDK Manager" then click Tools then "Manage Addon Sites". In the next window, click the tab at the top titled, "User Defined Sites". Then, click "New" and add this line:
http://kindle-sdk.s3.amazonaws.com/addon.xml
Click to collapse
Next: install the Gen 2 drivers and anything else you are missing from the Android 4.0.3 package.
Then: Using "Device Manager" in Windows, update the drivers for your Kindle and reboot your computer.
Then, do this: Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v18
Then use this: tf101_ics_root.zip
Then download this:
Then: unzip or unrar that and take "Superuser.apk" from the system\app folder and "su" from system\bin and paste them in the
"adt-bundle-windows\sdk\platform-tools" directory.
Then while in "adt-bundle-windows\sdk\platform-tools", hold "Shift" while right-clicking anywhere in the folder that is empty and choose, "Open Command Window Here"
In the Command Window:
Code:
adb devices
adb shell
rm -r /data/local/tmp
ln -s /data/ /data/local/tmp
exit
adb reboot
adb devices
adb shell
echo 'ro.kernel.qemu=1' > /data/local.prop
exit
adb reboot
adb devices
adb shell mount -o remount,rw /system
adb push su /system/xbin/su
adb shell
chown 0.0 /system/xbin/su
chmod 06755 /system/xbin/su
rm /data/local.prop
exit
adb reboot
adb install Superuser.apk
You should now be rooted. Open the superuser app and make sure it's up to date and working.
If after any of these commands you get "permissions denied" you have to start over.
I'll attach that "Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip" at the bottom here:

I had the same issue. I updated SDK, uninstalled all drivers, unplugged the fire2. Then in SDK went to tools, manage addon sites, selected user defined sites, added new and copied: http://kindle-sdk.s3.amazonaws.com/addon.xml, then ok, close, scrolled to the botom of SDK manager, under extras there were 2 kindle fire options, I selected both and installed them, then closed SDK manager.
I wen to the folder were SDK resides, then folder: extras\amazon\kindle_fire_usb_driver and installed the fire USB drivers, then pluged in the kindle, then execute the instructions posted here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2051270) and everything worked like a charm. I hope this works for you! (BTW this solution was developed by someone else can't remember who, but I founded it, used it and shared it).

Side loading apps.

Since we cannot get to other sources to install an app on firetv I've been using adb and my win7 pc.
I think I saw another method posted, installing apks already on tablet. I could not find it, and I don't think it used this method. My apologies for not crediting someone else if that's what I'm doing.
I installed "AnySend" and "Terminal Emulator" using adb and pc.
I sent app via any send to firetv.
Ran terminal keyboard very helpful if not needed
Used ls and cd to navigate to Any Send dir.
adb kill-server
adb start-server
"daemon started"
adb install "side loaded apk name"
If installed "success"
ls list directory contents
cd "name" changes directory

Yeah, I saw that, but with my way I don't need a computer, just my rooted nexus 5. I thought the OP was looking for a way to do this without a computer.
Thanks for replies. I'm lazy. I see an app I want to install. I send file from my tablet to fire tv using any send. Many other programs will work I just like this one. open terminal, navigate to install directory, use adb to install. Seems pretty simple.

Generating a new adb key

Hi,
Not sure if this is the right place (but only place I can post) I've been trying to root my phone in order to install TWRP on my Pixel XL, in order to do so I need to unlock my bootloader.
Now this won't work as in ADB it shows my device as unauthorised, and I've tried everything! Revoking permissions USB debugging, rebooting, the other solution involces deleteing the adb key in .android, but my only .android folder is under c:\\users\MyName\.android and has no adbkey here, only 3 folders -> avd, cache and studio, all of these being empty!
I'm at a real loss to authorise my device so I can continue to root my device.
Any help would be appreciated.
Kind regards

Have tried to delete the whole .android folder ? and do you have the latest adb / fastboot files. but to unlock your bootloader you actualy dont need adb just fastboot ?
After revoking permissions did you kill and restart the adb server:
adb kill-server
adb start-server

Not sure if the link will work but try these this is straight from Google
https://plus.google.com/+YamaniMondt/posts/AjgC41SYT9h
When I run the "adb shell" commad I get the following:
C:\adb>adb shell
adb server is out of date. killing...
* daemon started successfully *
error: device unauthorized.
This adbd's $ADB_VENDOR_KEYS is not set; try 'adb kill-server' if that seems wrong.
Otherwise check for a confirmation dialog on your device.
Not sure if this helps at all

Problem installing Root

I'm having a problem putting root in my phone (Asus zenfone 2)
I made the whole process, 7 clicks, enabled usb, and downloaded a zipped folder with one of the files named "Root_zenfone" which opens a cmd asking to press a key to start, but when I press it says "Fastboots is not known as a Internal command, or external an operable program or a batch file "and so I can not install root, can someone help me, please?

Which Android version is your phone running? Where did you download the zip file? Search for the right rooting method in this forum, never trust those unknown sites found in Google
Yes I downloaded the Zip file and my android is 5.0.
A good and bad news, I was able to activate root but I'm trying to use the emulator terminal to change my MAC address and the message that appears is "tmp-mksh NOT FOUND"
I use the "su" command and soon after when I will use the "busybox iplank show wlan0" and this message appears above. Can you help me?
Have you installed adb and the drivers on your computer? It would be easier to use the modder tool found in the general section. Everything you need is in the pkg.

I did not install the drivers because I did not find it and I was able to activate root, now my problem is to change the MAC address of the mobile phone, I am using the android terminal and busybox, I was able to install the busybox but at the time of using the terminal only the message works "Su" later to use "busybox iplink show wlan0" does not work. The following message appears (tmp-mksh NOT FOUND)
What do I need to stop using, or am I using the wrong code?

That's why your fastboot commands were not working. As far as the other MAC address problem is concerned, I don't know about that
