Hi, I'm having an issue in my A5 2017, is not a big deal but it's starting to be really annoying.
I will explain it the best I can.
Whenever I tap on a writting box (don't know how it is said actually) in Facebook, WhatsApp, Firefox, etc., and start immediately to write something, it freezes like for 2-3 seconds. For example, open a WhatsApp conversation, tap the writing box, keyboard shows up, I write "hello, how are you?" and after that 2-3 seconds of lag, the sentence I wrote appears really fast. Also the letters of the keyboard won't pop up as you write the sentence, they will pop up all of them together really fast after it "defreezes". It happens every time I send something. If I wrote that and send it, in the next sentence will happen again. The same happens when I tap the "back button" to close keyboard and again to go back to WhatsApp chats, it lasts 2-3 seconds.
Don't know why it's happening, I haven't changed anything in keyboard settings since I bought it. The phone is working perfect, fast, everything ok except that thing.
Thanks!

You have too many apps running in the background / installed.
Try to reflash stock rom, and disable some apps that you don.t use, because RAM is limited !

Mmm, I have the same amount of apps I had in my S4 and never did that.

I don't know what to do, I've restarted it.
I'll try reinstalling whatsapp, but I don't think it will fix it because it happens in every app I have to write something.
Try another keyboard, try google keyboard or download default one and say if problem is gone.
If not, factorry reset your device.
Well, just in case if you want to check if it is an performance problem, i would suggest you install an CPU Meter (like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.als.usagetimelines) and ram meter, so you can see the usage in the statusbar. If the freezes are happening at high usage / usage spikes it could be a performance / ram problem.
several issues, don't get rid of it, it's 2 weeks out of the box
Hello i'm having several issues with my 2 weeks new A5 SM-520F bought in germany, i don't get rid of it, seems be a defect or samsung brought finaly the crapiest FW at all, i dont want to flash and solve problem on my own, and void the garanty.
here we go issue 1:
Out of the box after first charging to 100% (phone off), turned on, did all the updates, put my sd card, all my stuff is on the card, then i recovered there is 20GB of internal storage occupied...serious? normal? seems gigantic for android, on my old experia with last update to 7 it has something about 6 to 7 Gig.
Issue 2:
My Battery is down after a day with no usage, only dispaly always on feature to inform about messages, there is no more LED...
I deactivated it to test it out, it is better, but when i turns display on, today i was browsing some while waiting, 5 to 8 % went away in minutes, this can not be?!Normal? Bad Batery?
Issue 3:
Like other ppl mostly all my vidz are mp4, but my rediculously NEW A5 of year 2017 (sounds fashy huh) seem not be able to play them, it always want convert them to wmv no one using or want using anymore...
Is that just a save up money on license for the codecs? In my opnion... horrible, to bring such fashy sonorous smarthone of 2017 new generation...without mp4 support oO
Would MX with custom codec do it ?
Ty very much Guys!
Did you try Factory Reset?
Trying now, it seems the whole system tree is broken partition E:/ misc not find, and multiple errors.. trying mounting something and not get rw- root permission and error, i get in recovery for reset and swaps through the last recovery log...mysterious
When issues will remain i will manual download the official FW and throw it through sideload, when nothing help i'll give it back...
Sad that a new device not a cheap one and so many probs....
I've red about multiple problems nearly the same as me, they've all mentioned the ultra fast battery drain, it seems that nougat is kinda broken with all its fabulousness and will be patched...soon...somehow...maybe?

I think it depends on your perception of lag. I feel my device slows down momentarily sometimes when navigating through long lists and opening some applications as you mention. I thought at first it might be a problem with my device but have since had it replaced (because of dust under the screen not this) but I still notice it the same. I think I just expect everything to be instantaneous given the 1Ghz processor inside but to be honest it doesn't bother me and I imagine most people don't notice any slow down at all.
As an example, just now selecting the option to add the HTC Clock widget to the home screen there is a noticeable pause before it comes up with the options to choose widget style.
I would be interested in how quickly the Photos application loads for people though, it takes a good few seconds for me (around 4 seconds sometimes) to load the summary view with 'camera shots', 'all photos' links etc. I've replaced the memory card to an 8gb Sandisk Ultra as I thought the read speed of the original could be the cause, but it still takes the same time.
None of these things effect the usability of the device in practical terms though.
Market / Weather are possibly lagging due to Network speed rather than phone speed. They have to DL data to the phone.
Others like Email may be refreshing when opened causing lag.
My messages app (Handcent currently) only lags when I have many hundreds of messages saved. But it is noticably better than chomp at handling the same volume of messages.
I find the phone lags when it is installing stuff. And by lag I mean delayed responses to my input.
I also find that certain apps can load up and then cause the phone to stutter. I haven't found out exactly which apps but it's always solved with a soft reset - just turning the phone off and on. Either that or it's forcing the phone to store too much on the SD card.
Maybe I'll find the offending app when I have more time.
this is sux... how to fix it?
i tried to do hard reset but still the same problem.
usually it reboots when i'm listening a music but today it has rebooted when i was using simple "light" application...
Sounds like you have a defective phone if it's happening frequently while your phone is awake. I've had the same thing happen one time in six weeks, not enough to call it a problem, but if you're having it daily or more something is wrong with the phone. I'd exchange it if it were me.

Well of course try to do a factory reset and very selectively install apps and see if something is causing it. If nothing specific is causing it you're probably looking at a defective device.
Nine times out of ten the reboots are caused by some apps that you are using or that runs in the background. If you wiped your phone and set it up again, do not install apps. DON'T. See if it crashes like that or not. If it still crashes then you likely have a hardware defect of sorts.
Of all apps, stay away from any apps that interfere with Android as a system. Battery life managing apps are by far the worst, for example.
Yeah, kristovaher makes a good point- it could possibly be a rogue app. Avoid not only battery manager apps but also task killers and any other app that supposedly increases battery life. None of them are really necessary or useful anyway.
i have done factory reset
installed only Go Keyboard, turned on unknown sources and usb debugging like i allways do.
copied all my mp3s to the device and was listening a music... and it reseted again...
p.s. btw, sometimes when i'm listening a music and screen is locked, the music starts lagging (slows down)... it plays normal if i press power off button so the screen highlight.
definitely an orange
guys do u really think i should return this?
it will take another 1.5-2 month untill it reachs the shop or return back to me.. not sure if they even will answer via e-mail when i'll ask for relace... i'm not sure but i think it started reboot much after 4.0.2. maybe new 4.0.3 will have positive effect. some people from my local forums also advised me to flash any custom ROM (some of them had such a problem and it helped them, reboots gone... liek they said)
This random reboot has happened to so many people. So please, don't tell him that he got a lemon. You can google up "galaxy nexus random reboot" and see how many complaint of similar issue have been posted. I also got random reboot every two days or so. But if the OP got it every day or more frequently than that, just exchange it.
If you want to proudly say your Gnex does not randomly reboot, EVER, then just use it for phone calls, browsing the internet, and Facebook only.
How often is it happening?
If its more than once a day its certainly defective. That is not normal behavior. If its every few days then deal with it.
It's happened twice under the same set of circumstances:
1. Streaming Pandora
2. Charging
Not sure if they're related but it started happening after upgrading to 4.0.2.

if it's mass problem then it's really sad....
why dont you flash 4.0.3 and rule out whether it's 4.0.2 or the phone... if it's the phone i'm assuming you're on GSM, cause if you weren't, you could walk into verizon, switch it out, and have a new one 15 minutes from now.
I had the same problem yesterday, I tought it was a problem with the kaspersky launcher. isn't that a problem of kaspersky?

This is a known issue with certain encoding bit rates on music files. Enable the EQ music effects and it keeps the cpu speed high enough to negate lag, even when screen is off.
Almost all the complains about reboots are connected with 4.0.2 update. Letw wait for 4.0.3. When I was on 4.0.1 no reboots.
So Ive had this HTC One X for like a week now (btw is it common that the back is already scratched when you unpack it?)
And it has some issues, overall its a good phone but... yeah:
1 - Im having some issues when sometimes entering Music and wish to play a song, the entire phone stops responding basicly, unless you keep pressing the "back" "home" "recent apps" buttons at the bottom fo the phone, sometimes you get into one of those, and can shut off the app Music, however if you go back into Music, itll show ups as a black screen with an odd bar at the bottom which you cant interact with.
The only solution to this is to turn off the phone and turn it back on, and then Music works again.
The very same thing occurs with the internal movie player or in my case MX Player, at random itll stop working, thus a reboot is in order.
And yes shutting off all apps using the app manager or whatever doesnt really fix anything.
Is the SD card so highly fragmented or something that the phone is having trouble finding the files or something? Or is the SD card not suitable for any larger files? What is the speeds on the SD card?
2 - The internet browser, why does it constantly readjust? When I zoom in I want to zoom in and have no stupid readjusting occuring where the font changes and what youre looking at having blank white squares that reload. I had none of these issues with my SGS (i9000GT)
I downloaded the Chrome Browser and it has the same issues, is there no way to fix all this? I dont want it to reload the pages like it does, or atleast not the font OR moving the "view" back to the left side of the browser (if zoomed in)
Heres an example: /watch?v=SEFWshNQ3ac
Oh yeah it also has to reload the tabs, didnt have to on my previous phone.
3 - Battery Life, I was playing some Zelda (starting fully recharged) using a GBA emulator found in the market, 1 hour later Im at 11% battery life!
Same thing goes for when I watch a video, if I were to put a movie on the phone (in a smaller res than 720p!) I could watch for maybe 40min to an hour and the battery life has dropped substantially, like 20-30% left. This is horrible.
One day, I woke up, plugged the phone out of the recharger, fully charged, went out to town, like 8 hours later battery is at 50% with minimal to no activity.
In comparison I could play a bunch of games, watch videos and what not on my SGS and still have way more battery life after even longer sessions. I could finish "Yes Man" in 720p with ease and still have more than enough juice to run another session of "Yes Man"
How do you get this "Battery Fix" which Ive read about on the HTC Blog? There seems to be no info about it.
There shouldn’t be any scratches on the phone if its new, are you sure its brand new and not a used/refurbished one ? If it is used or refurbished then the previous owner may have installed an unstable custom ROM. Can you see an app names Super SU or SU or Super User in the app drawer ? Also What do you see under Settings > About > Software Information ?
As for the first problem , maybe the HOX you received is defected . Just maybe .
Second problem , you can go to the settings to change it ... >.>
Third problem , here try this link out [How to] Brilliant Battery Life 100% working! This might most probably help you out .
I think you just have a bad device. That isn't how my HOX behaves and if I was you I'd take the phone to either be repaired or replaced.

Yes it had scratches on the back, the lower back.
Anyway battery is just ****ing **** on this phone, the phone gets REALLY warm around the camera aswell when you for instance watch a video or play a GBA game.
dude you got ripped off sorry
The heat is normal. I do strongly advice you to follow the advice about the first or second post(the one about which software your using). If you can tell us, maybe we can try and see if it's not a used one.

Some battery benchmark charts can be found here:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6022/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-review-att-and-tmobile-usa-variants/3
--------
On auto brightness (default)
I can stream 720p video over WiFi for 5+ hours
I can stream 320kbps audio over Data for 9+ hours
I can sleep for 6hrs with WiFi on, and it remains at 100% upon waking
I can play the latest high-end 3d games for 2 1/2 hours
So, if you ain't getting similar results - either something is draining it, or you have a seriously damaged phone. (I guess the first)

Yes the plastic film was on. Its not hard to put one back on either so yeah.
Hey all,
I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with my Note 7 (recall replacement one).
1. It lags like HELL! I've done all the animation scaling off/force GPU rendering etc, but I shouldn't have to. Just a simple thing like pulling down the notification bar noticeably lags every couple of times.
2. I use Android Auto, which I always have to reconnect manually to use (never did on the S7).
3. When listening to Spotify over Android Auto, I occasionally get stutter/glitches in the sound. Once the glitch was so bad the phone froze and it had to be reset.
4. The thing gets hot. Annoyingly hot, even if I'm just browsing Chrome, or reading G-mail etc. It's not like I'm gaming!!
5. WiFi is very sporadic. The connection is rock solid, but often it will be downloading an app...sit at 100% of download and progress no further. This happens quite frequently.
With all the above, (bar number 2), none of it applied to the pre-recalled Note 7.
I'm frustrated to say the least. Does anyone else get any of this whatsoever? I can't go through not having a phone again, or sending this for what Samsung will insist on a repair. This phone is jinxed and I'm gutted.
Any suggestions (bar a hard reset haha) will be greatly received.
PS. I have disabled loads of apps with the AppDisabler to try and help it along but I think there's an issue with the RAM or some of the internal modules (at a guess). Thanks all
I have just managed to reduce the lag quite a bit by uninstalling Samsung Good Lock (which was forced upon me earlier today)! I liked it, but serious lag creation!
Did you use Smart Switch to change phones? I've found quite a few apps don't like to be transferred. Android Auto apps don't move right via Smart Switch and I had to uninstall/reinstall them.
Be careful what you disable. Some of Samsung's seemingly benign system apps are called by other apps and if they don't respond are constantly polled. That could cause a lot of background processes and may be a source of your overheating. My pre-exchange phone did what you're describing the first couple of days after I set it up. It would maybe once or twice a day get blocky when scrolling as if something was running in the background. The (U.S.) PH1 update made it go away. But we're S-820 in the U.S. and I think you guys are Exynos. So different problems different solutions.
Thanks for your reply Barry. Actually not Smart Switch, but I let it restore my 100+ apps from my previous Note 7 (near the end of the initial set up). The apps were downloading but strangely, every so often nothing was happening after they'd reached 100% downloaded, just before "installing..." (over WiFi). I cancelled that specific app and the restore continued (this happened over and over). Turning WiFi on and off sorted it temporarily but I couldn't download more than 3/4 without this really strange issue.
I also observed the longest lag ever! I went into the OS update screen, pressed update and the device didn't respond. 5 mins later while doing something completely different, the update screen popped up about 12 times (as I'd pressed it 12 times 5 mins previously). This happened again after a reboot too!
Now, I've just bitten the bullet and performed a hard reset. This time the WiFi seems great, although now I'm speculating that it was getting stuck at 100% post download perhaps because the security thing was having trouble scanning it for malware prior to install.
I also take your note re:disabling stuff! I'm going to do something unheard of and just try it stock for a bit and see how it goes. For such amazing hardware, the fact my note 3 was running 10 times smoother means something drastic is going on. I hope this hard reset is the end of it!
Chances are the hard reset won't do anything, though I hope you have better luck than I did. I went through three phones (on my 4th). I did the hard reset as soon as I picked up the 2nd handset and onward before I did anything with the phone. Sadly you should not have to disable anything, the phone should just work for 900.00. Some will say otherwise.. Wi-FI is good for me but the reception is garbage. On various phones with T-MO including other android devices that colleagues have - they get 4/5 bars and usually double the download speed on Speedtest. The head I had on the first I don't get as bad on this one. But the lag I do...
Did you get the update from your provider as well?
I just picked up my replacement Sprint Note7 today so not much time with it though seems identical except 1 small issue. I had my first Note 7 rooted, Viper4Android and Dolby Atmos flashed along with Xposed and it worked flawlessly. The replacement Note fails with binary invalid using the exact same odin version, Sun7 systemless root etc that I have on my pc from the first Note 7 and the second Note 7 was given to me not updated, in other words its on the exact same firmware as the first one!
I am very proficient with rooting, adb, etc and this has me baffled.
Has anyone successfully rooted a replacement N930p that came with PH9? using freeza's guide?

Yea disabling seems like a great idea at first but it actually creates problems. I run it completely as is except uninstalling the preloaded games. Didnt disable anything. Disabling stuff caused massive lag on my note 5 and same with note 7.
Thanks chaps.
I've gotta say, the hard reset has made the world of difference. Which to me is strange, I've never had to hard reset a new device, but it's done the trick.
Regarding the disabling of services, there must be *some* that are safe to disable? I agree if you're tinkering with potentially integral things like S-Voice it's not a good idea. But then stuff like OneDrive surely that's okay? Maybe, things like the Disabler package are a bad plan. You can disable software by default without it, but only certain apps. Maybe that's why Samsung prevent the disabling of certain bloat...?

I only disable the useless apps, such as all the Microsoft bloat (OneDrive, Excel, Word, etc), Facebook (and all its services), and any Carrier bloat.

Disabling facebook services will broke gear VR.
It's a tricky one! I guess it's a bit of trial and error.

That's cool. I have no interest in Gear VR.
I have heard somethings about latest version of chrome causing batt drain, could possibly contribute to lag also, I cant tell much as I am expecting my note 7 exchange, but I have seen some posting about it
Have no problems when I used package disabler and chose "disable all bloat"...but after doing that, I looked through the list and enabled around 3 to 5 that I thought didn't need disabling.
No problems since.
Oh...that option doesn't disable facebook, messenger, hangouts etc. So if you don't use those, you need to add them.
Thanks all. Well, after all that, and a hard reset my phone is running perfectly again. Then, this morning I received this from Oculus...
"We recently pushed an Oculus Software update that has inadvertently caused some people to experience phone performance issues."
I haven't put my phone into my Gear VR since the hard reset and I can almost guarantee it was that blimmin thing. Samsung have also updated their Good Lock app to remove lag yesterday!
Damn you Oculus!
Oh..and strangely, the first few hours I got the phone..it got pretty hot...especially since I was using it while charging. I turned off fast charging and no difference. Anyways I just cooled it down w the aircon now and then.
Long story short, it doesn't get hot anymore.
Maybe it's because I used package disabler snd greenify...but whatever I do...Even while charging..it barely gets warm...
Shrugs

Yea they always get very hot for the first few hours while installing all the new apps! I'm not sure you need Greenify these days do you, since android tends to close apps that are not in use (giving you the same options as Greenify)?
Simples
Wipe data start again.
Set up as new phone and download apps again

This. I just spent two days doing that and its like a totally different phone. I started a thread highlighting my experiences.
i am quite annnoyed with the lag too. it's nothing too bad, but there's noticeable keyboard lag, and whenever you go into settings to search for something, it takes like two seconds to load. i don't even think this is a case by case situation here, this phone just isn't as fast as a oneplus 3, lg g5 or iphone 7 plus. again, it's not terrible, it's just not the fastest or smoothest.
For those who have upgraded already, how did the upgrade process go and how are you liking it so far?
This is a big upgrade and I'm nervous about pulling the trigger until this is vetted out a bit.
Chris
The process went well. I had to play with the display resolution and zoom to get things looking right. I had to re install my theme store theme to get it back. Other than that, it runs great. Only a few apps not compatible with n. But I have like 400 apps. So not bad! Oh yes, I did need a couple of reboots too.
Sweet! Well... having to go five steps back first was a PITA but when finished (and thank God for the Samsung Cloud Backup System - I had just done a backup three days before this project and it saved my arse!) Once I finished the AT&T OTA of QB2, I did a Restore from the Samsung Cloud and the phone looked EXACTLY like it had with Nougat PL4! Desktop, Apps, (most) settings... awesome!
Going good, process went smooth. I'd just say plug up and stay plugged during upgrade
Just did the upgrade. I have to say guys, this was BY FAR the smoothest stock upgrade I've ever experienced from Samsung. They did a nice job on this.
I'm just running into the issue of UI Lag. The update went smooth enough though. I will also say I am having issue with video playback in chrome if I flip to fullscreen then the ability to control the video is gone and i cant minimize it i have to hit the home key to get out of the video.
I just finished installing QB2. Everything works smoothly except one annoying bug. The Activity Zone app launch not in full screen. It's like 70% of the screen. I tried to change the display resolution but the same.
Anyone having the same issue?

Yes, it launch in full screen but the content of the app is not. Please see attached picture. Do you have the same?
It was full screen in marshmallow
That is quite strange, my Activity Zone is full screen, do you have your Zoom function under "Display" set to small?
Upgrade went smooth , i did it manually and not OTA , all working good with good battery life.
What i did is as follows :
1- Odin the PI2 as a base line
2- Then via recovery from the device I used "update from SD card" and upgraded to PK2
3- Then i did it again via recovery from the device I used "update from SD card" and upgraded to QB2
Download the needed files from the following thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-active/how-to/s7-active-sm-g891a-ota-updates-firmware-t3540866
I updated to the BQB2 build via OTA about a week after it became available. I'm generally pleased with it, but there are a few things here and there that make me think that perhaps I'm due for a factory reset and start over.
Battery life is slightly down for me, which doesn't match up with reports I'm hearing from others. It's not much lower, but it's noticeable.
UI seems to be slightly more 'laggy'. Reduced the animation scales in the dev options to compensate. Maybe because I was running 'Good Lock' when the update happened?
Seems like wifi connection is not 100% stable. I see the notification bar 'flicker' from time to time, and it keeps re-posting the notification about what network I'm connected to.
Seems to get warmer while charging wirelessly, to the point that it pauses the wireless charging. But, this is in a cradle in my car, with Waze running, and it's warmer than it had been for a few months so not really sure if the update is involved in this or not.
Probably one or two other smaller things that I'm not thinking of at the moment. Obviously they weren't showstoppers, since I can't recall right now.
I like that they included the mobile hotspot toggle again (finally!), but they still don't have a 'mobile data' one. System UI Tuner is still gone, although I've read some people think that's the case with Nougat in general, so not sure.
All that being said, it updated to the BQC2 build today. The wifi thing seems to be resolved, despite this being only a 'security update'. I'll let it shake out for a few days or so and see if I still think it's worthwhile to start all over.
Went smooth for me, took literally less then 2 minutes.
All my apps/settings are working flawlessly and I experienced no issues thus far.
I updated to Nougat since it was released and I can't say I'm happy. Battery looks slightly worse and at least 1 or 2 twice a week my phone slows down getting almost unresponsive. I have to restart it.
That never happened with Marshmallow. I'll try it for one more month and if not I will go back to Marshmallow. Is that still possible?
That is a good question. I know that with small version upgrades the phone keeps the original version stored for a full wipe, but on a big OS upgrade I am not sure. Hopefully someone will know. I want to say yes it can be done.
Im on QD4, loving Noguat at how quick it is. But, i hate how all the menus and settings are all bunched and i have use search to find basic things.
I actually am having some issues with my s7 active I installed the 7.0 update a few months back and never looked back because the 7.0 stock rooms great no issues except recently last week's my phone started rebooting on its own . I though no biggie cause it did every once in a while , but now it has greatly increased . What happen was it froze on Facebook messenger app when I was trying to reply to a message and would not unfreeze so I had too force restart it that is when the problems really begun. The moment I force restarted it and it rebooted and i got into hone screen i keep getting notifications that apps were crashing over and over and the phone decided to restart on its own and keep doing the same thing . So I was like wtf maybe it's a app or something so I decided to do a factory reset and clear cache and rebooted the phone looked like that fixed the problem for a whole 2 minutes then the crashing of apps and random restarts . I was tired so.i was like ok I just turned the phone off and notice that it was kinda warm and decided to go to bed and mess with it tomorrow . So when I woke up I booted the phone up and it was acting normal no crashing or anything no reboots but after 2 hours it randomly started rebooting and sometimes the apps crash bit currently the phone is working but i get random freezes and reboots all day . I have tried searching for a solution but no luck. Some people claim its a app but when I have no apps Installed and it still does it its not a app problem . Some people say it could be the mother board flus faulting out or bad battery can't send it in for repair cause I bought the phone off eBay. Is anyone else having these issues and know of a fix maybe thanks sorry for the long post.
Upgraded to BQB2 a week ago, I am very happy with everything, it's smoother, faster and manages RAM better (well I was Rooted on 6.0.1 so it was laggy) all my apps work perfectly and I've disabled many things with Package Disabler Pro, I've been testing running music, google maps chrome, whatsapp, messenger, face all at the same time, very smooth BUT I must say it does drain battery much faster than before.
Now my phone wont make it through the day, it even drains on standby, I've already flashed 7.0 twice and wiped cache, I'm still, thinking if I will keep this or go back to 6.
Yesterday alone, my battery went from 89% at 1:30am to 52% at 10:30am, only on standby. When I check Battery use my com.android.systemui is the one eating up most of it, I even set my resolution low to HD. If anybody has a solution, any help would surely be appreciated, I don't wanna go back to Marshmellow, but if I must......
Upgraded and everything was fine apparently, then I saw the huge battery drain, tried averything I found and decided to go back to marshmallow.

Can you please provide screen shots?
There are 2 more ups after QD4 (side load), I need to know if I should be prepared to go that far if I proceed with QD4.
