How to obtain backup of radio modem file for future use because during flashing roms normally phone lost its radio files

Ok I know what a ROM is Im pretty sure but what is the radio?
I am completely lost when it comes to radio and couldnt find anything on it.
Thanks
BTW just got rooted!
Lol,
A radio is basically an image that is flashed just like you would flash a Rom. The difference is that you don't wipe before you flash a radio or wimax. Search the dev section for [RADIO] to locate the different radio images. You should make sure to check the instructions for which Rom you are using to ensure you flash the appropriate radio.
Basically the radio and wimax updates are images that update the code for, well, radio and wimax lol
Hi guys,
With the new clockwork recovery i can no longer flash radios through it. So i install them via fastboot by extracting the radio.img from the radio zip file.
Can someone tell me if there is anything i should do about the META-INF files? I'm just cannot help but think that the radio didn't flash properly without those.
Thanks in advance
ummm...bump
when im flashing a radio throught fastboot mode i just takie the .img file and flash it
but i dont extract the .img from the flashable .zip, i just download the .img file (there are always 2 files to download - either a .zip or an .img)
Are you using CM7 or Oxygen HBoot? If so, that's the reason, not CWM. Those tables don't have enough cache space to flash a radio through recovery.

yes i am using cm7 hboot but also the safest method to flash a radio is with fastboot.
I was taking to OP

Thanks for the replies. Yes indeed, i am using the oxygen hboot, i forgot that i had the stock one the last time i flashed a radio. Anyways i was just wondering if it was enough to extract the radio.img and flash it or there is something else i should do with the remaining meta-inf folder.
I always download the radios from this xda thread (featured in the Desire Index). I guess i did not think about searching for another place to get them. Will it really make a difference if i download the img for the radio instead of extracting it from the archive and flashing it?
honestly i dont think so, these are probably the same files.
HOWEVER
since it is a radio and a way to possibly brick your phone i wouldnt risk.

here is the newest radio "32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23.img" from2011-May-17 09:19:46 size 25.5M
also check the md5 sums, with the file that is also there.
i flashed it today, all is fine
also i think it comes with newest RIL, so no need to worry bout updating it.
The .img file itself and the .img file inside the .zip are exactly the same. The other files in the .zip file just tell the system what to flash and where to flash it.
Dear All,
Question: If i use ClockworkMod Recovery(3.0.26) to backup my stock HTC Desire HD, and then install custom ROM and Radio. Finally, then i recover from the stock backup that i made earlier. Will the Radio being recovered to the one when i do backup?

No, Clockwork mod doesn't touch radios.
Doktaphex,
Thanks for replying Then we have to flash the radio back to stock radio, right? Is there any source of the stock radio (in the forum or other website)?
if u installed the radio recommended by the developer of the ROM u flashed maybe its better to keep as the developer may see its best for his ROM
Yes. You're right. I need to restore to stock radio because i want to revert my DHD to stock ROM2.2, that's why i need to find ROM2.2 stock radio.
When you run the 2.2 RUU a file called "rom.zip" will be created in your temp files. Find this, copy elsewhere and unzip. Find radio.img and flash that with fastboot.
Sidenote: when you restore using a RUU the radio will be restored too.

Have you looked in the Stock ROM thread?
I have the stock HTC Wildfire ROM with Baseband Radio, after many tries of flashing roms (Stock, Custom...etc), the performance of radio some how got effected by dropping calls many times and other GSM and 3G issues.
The question now, can I install the baseband radio without losing S-OFF, Root, ROM or other apps, patches?
If possible, how any walk-through to do for Wildfire with CWM and Cyanogenmod 7.2?
Thanks!
U can flash the radio without loosing root!
If u want to flash the radio. Then the first thing to do is download the latest one. .....20.10 i belief. Put it on the root of your sdcard.
Then you need to boot in recovery 2.5.x by rommanager and execute the radio zip. Wait a few moments and your radio is flashed.
That will flash the radio. There is a risk for flashing the radio!!!!! and u cant solve it by a nandroid.
If it is not the radio, then i dont know what is wrong...

I flashed the new 1.57.531.7 firmware and i'm not happy with the data signal and connection; it hangs a lot before downloading in certain apps. Is there a way to downgrade just the firmware without losing s-off or recovery? or can i just flash a different radio in recovery?

From my understanding s-off is forever unless you change it back yourself manually.
You can flash a customized firmware in order to not lose your recovery. There are some available if you do a quick search(I don't have the links convenient right now).
If you are s-off (it seems like you are) then you should be able to flash a radio in recovery if you want. You would just need a flashable version of the radio. There are some of those floating around in here (I believe some in the same post as the firmware) as well.
Hope that helps.
