Hi if anyone can help- I'm on the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 4 after 2 Note 7's and a Note 3 before that on Biggin's so I've sorta been out of the root game. I want to downgrade from 6.0.1 to 5.1.1. I am downloading the full firmware for the Note 4 from further back in this thread (N910VVRU2CPA1) and am currently on (N910VVRU2CPG2).
From what I understand, I need to do a factory reset, then go to Odin and flash the firmware. I have Odin 3.10.7 and am downloading the N910VVRU2CPA1 as we speak. I see 'hsbadr' firmwares in his thread and the PIT file TRLTE_USA_VZW.pit which I'm not sure is compatable pit file for the specific 5.1.1 firmware or the necessary pit file is included in the full firmware and can anyone tell me if these are the right steps?are these the right steps Any information would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks
@tjmethod by chance how did you process go, did you manage to root and unlock bootloader?

I bought the phone already with 6.0.1 on it and read that you cannot unlock/ root it with mm on it and can only be done after downgrading to 5.1.1 so I haven't done anything yet
I'm in the same boat...Coming from a n7. Bought a n4 on eBay...It's got 601. Want to root...Guess we need to downgrade....Is it possible?

Before you can start rooting, you'll need to be on 5.1.1 BPA1. If you're currently on 6.0.1, just download the BPA1 firmware from Sammobile, factory reset on 6.0.1, then flash BPA1 stock via Odin.

Hi thanks, I had called Samsung and talked to top tier tech support and was told that once the phone has been upgraded to 6.0.1., it cannot be downgraded. and that i need to search the rooting sites and try to find where someone has found a breach or workaround for unlocking the bootloader which will usually have a bounty but I dont know. top tier tech support has always been good. Do you think thats false it cannot be downgraded?

It's definitely false, when I rooted my phone, I downgraded from 6.0.1 to 5.1.1 without any issues.

I will definately give it a go when I have the time, have you flashed a rom and if so which one, there must be some or some tweaks to get rid of the lag?

I am a little confused as to whether I've found the right firmwares but I've found the firmwares here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...mware-firmware-kernel-modem-recovery-t2942937
If I am downgrading to 5.1.1. which this phone was obviously on before, I don't know what this phone was on since it currently is on the PL1 build which are not one of the two 6.0.1. builds on this page. I don't even know if that matters.. Anyway, the two 5.1.1. builds are PA1 and OK3. Do you know where any other firmwares out there that might show my current one and the previous build that it came from?
Thanks-

You want the PA1. It's really easy. Just sounds more complicated then it is. I am using the PaulPizz rom. It is very stable, good battery life, and spen and sview work. If you need any help, let me know.

Yeah they're out there but that thread hasn't been updated recently. Basically the order after pf3 is pg2, pj2, and then cpl1. The one you want, if your planning on rooting, is bpa1. Also, as far as your question in the op about the pit file, it should really only be used if absolutely necessary. It's in case your partitions have been corrupted for some reason and you need to repartition your device.
Edit- I was going to link to those other firmwares but they are buried in the thread that your already looking in. Either way they aren't necessary for you to unlock your bootloader, you can go straight from cpl1 to bpa1.

Hey thanks for confirming all this. So all I need to download and install is the bpa1 firmware via Oden with the AP button I think- I've got a few different versions of Oden on my pc. It's been a while since I've flashed firmware on a phone but I remember it was easy. So just save my pictures, any files, etc. on the sd card, remove it, then do a factory reset or when I put the setting into usb download mode, and flash the firmware this will automatically factory reset the phone? Also earlier today Verizon has been trying to push an software upgrade. After I unlock the bootloader and install twrp then flash a rom, do I need to somehow disable the update notice. I remember having to do that once with another phone.
What rom are you on? Thanks again for the Info-

Yeah that all sounds spot on. I would definitely do the factory reset before you start, but other than that your good. To block the updates, you can uninstall the SDM apps. There are 2 of those and you'll need root to remove them, but you can disable them without root with that debloater tool. The rom I'm currently using is kind of work in progress. I have a couple stock based roms in the dev section, one is stock_plus that has a stock feel with some mods added and the other is Modest Rom that is got some grace apps added and system ui mods. You can find them here and here if you want to check them out.

Custom kernels help a lot. The problem is it's kind of slim pickings for our specific model, but some of the international kernels work well too. Oscar kernel is made for the 910v so that's probably the most reliable but if your like me, I like to use a permissive kernel and Ram kernel is not a bad choice for that though it's not as feature rich.

I really dont know the difference... from what I remember a kernel is the layer between the software and the hardware- a key component of the os. I'm guessing the permissive ones can be used for different roms or firmware? You can probably tell I really don't that much about the root game. The last time I flashed a firmware was on my note 3 after I bricked it. Then rerooted and got on to biggins rom which was great ut I never understood or learned how to use xposed. Anyway, I downloaded Modest Rom, PJ2 _STOCK .tar and am downloading cpl1_tar but I know that once I flash bpa1 firmware which puts the phone back on 5.1.1. I see your roms are 6.0.1 roms, after I flash the bpa1, will the bootloader be unlocked? If so can I then just flash the cpla1_tar or is that not a full firmware? or use one of the two 6.0.1 firmwares from where I found the cpa1? Are the kernels different from 6.0.1 and 5.1.1 and where to find the downloads?? I appreciate the tips especially coming from a develpoer and i'm happy to make a donation- I'm not sure how?
Thanks again!

Oh man that sucks- hopefully they gave you some good pain meds. Anyway, I havent taken th plunge yet- once I get on to 5.1.1 then twrp, I want to go on to 6.0.1 but am unsure as to what point the bootloader is unlocked or exactly what to do to upgrade to 6.0.1 once I crack the bl. I just dont want to go through the dreaded set up everything twice.
Hi everyone!
New Android 7 Developer RUU is out. I remember that there were several problems with the last Android 6 security updates in September and October. So it wasn't possible to root with the latest SuperSU.zip
Instead you had to use an older version and update to the latest version with Play Store later.
Before I flash the Android 7 RUU, I would like to know if anyone already has experience with rooting latest Stock ROM?
Any problems which occurred? And if the root process was successful, which SuperSU Version have you used? Thanks in advance!

I've used this to root stock Nougat ROM and it worked fine https://download.chainfire.eu/1014/SuperSU/SR5-SuperSU-v2.78-SR5-20161130091551.zip
Anyway make a backup.. just in case it doesn't work
EDIT: It will reboot the phone at least 2 times before booting into system

No there's no need, at least I didn't change anything and it worked well
I just wanted to add this as a note as I did not see anyone else having these issues in nougat (7.0). Do not install SuperSU 2.78-201609011115. If you do your mobile data option in the notification bar will be grayed out. Your cell signal will have a slash through it and cell signal will no longer work. I do not know if other versions of SuperSU will also cause this symptom.
If this happens to you restore from a backup in recovery or if need be run the RUU again.
Mat08.cc's linked version of SuperSU does work!!!! Thanks!

Yes, that is correct. The issue was that my CID was 11111111. Changed it to BS_US001, downloaded, installed successfully. Now I just ran in another issue. Tried to root it so I did: twrp 3.0.2, then installed supersu-v2.78, device booted, cinfirmed rooted but doesn't recognize that there is a sim card inside. Ideas? Thank you!!!

Reporting back:
After installing the SuperSU that you gave, everything works normally. Thank you very much.
There is an update which my phone didn't want to install. It said that the update is for himaulatt and my phone is himaul. Is it because phone is rooted and with twrp recovery? When I install the update manually via RUU from laptop, works fine. It just pisses me off cause I have tk start from scratch with my phone but update is successful. Had this issue for a while now amd was trying to figure it out. I really don't want to keep wiping the phone every single time there is an update. Thank you in advance.

Hello, so i 've been on oxygen 4.0 on my OnePlus 3 for about a week now, and flashed that version via new TWRP. I am rooted with custom recovery. But just now browsing website, and I got a notification that update is available to 4.0.2 lol. OFFICIAL UPDATE. I thought that it is not possible to get official updates when rooted/with custom recovery. Is there something wrong going on? Should I Update? When I was on Oxygen 3.2.8 I wanted to get update using VPN, but had no luck, notification never appeared. Should I officially update this official oxygen 4.0.2 version? is it safe? I don't want to brick my OP3 :/
Don't, I was on the same position and I did and now I have soft bricked my phone and I am here looking for a solution.

just found out that flashing anything under 1gb officially, while you are on TWRP will lead on soft brick. So you will have to flash full OTA zip on your TWRP recovery to fix. BTW, what is your TWRP version? thanks

Actually, I just fixed it and came here to let you know , all I needed to do (I am not an expert on these stuff so it took me a while), is to install an updated unofficial TWRP to avoid the pattern bug, because it kept TWRP from reading my internal storage, once I fixed that the phone turned on with the newer 4.0.2 version.

Hi all,
I have the EE UK HTC 10.
Managed to get TWRP and SuperSU flashed fine and rebooted into system with no problems.
Copied over the LeeDroid Latest ROM, I forgot to address the firmware issue, so the one I'm running is older than the ROM's one. Causing my fingerprint sensor/home button to stop working...
I've been looking around thee internet for hours now and cannot find the RUU for my UK EE HTC 10 to be able to update the Firmware, and in general cannot find any way to update Firmware now.
Can someone please help? I'm not a complete noob to this, just haven't messed with Root and so on in a few years. (Not had the time, lol.)

Do you have a backup of your stock rom? If so flash that and see if you can upgrade using the official OTA.
Else, check out this thread for firmwares, on the last couple pages there are a bunch of versions posted.

Yeah, sorry mate. I thought it was asking which version of the OS I want to install. LOL.
Thanks for that though! :good:
Hello all,
Long story short I currently have an Unlocked 10, rooted, s off, and bootloader unlocked. I have flashed over the Verizon rom and radios last year and left it this way for a while. I'm getting to the point where I'm about ready for a factory reset but figured I might as well update if I'm going to do that. Better yet I'd like to get on LeeDroid but preferably on Android N.
So I need to update to an Android N ROM first, then over to LeeDroid. I can do it, but frankly I do this stuff so little that every time I get a little nervous. My 10 is my daily driver but I currently have a raggedy s6 here I can pop a sim in for a minute if needed.
So I'm wondering would it make sense to just do a backup, flash the latest Unlocked N version then flash LeeDroid? Wouldn't my Verizon radios stay where they're at, or will flashing those roms over write them? And, none of this flashing should overwrite my recovery, should it?
Also, I apologize if this is not appropriate but my other option at this point is to ask, are there any fairly well regarded XDA friends here with some spare time that would be open to taking 20 bucks or so to get me fixed up remotely over teamviewer or something?
Thanks for all your help. I don't post here often but when I do I always find the direction I need as someone who is not a frequent modder anymore lol.

To minimize potential problems I would start fresh going from M to N.
Flash the full N RUU.exe. Flash the latest TWRP, then flash LeeDroid. New firmware, TWRP, and custom rom.

Would you suggest Verizon N rom since I'm already on Verizon M or would Unlocked N be better?

Get a copy of your current M rom for the firmware you currently have and download that. Remember, we're talking full roms not updates. Now get the latest N rom for your device (full ruu.exe). Now you have options. I would flash the N rom, then the latest TWRP, then LeeDroid. Any problems, and you can go right back to M. I always use TWRP 3.0.2-6 with M. So if I go back to M I flash that version of TWRP (from within TWRP itself) first. Take your time. You can do this. You can get the latest N rom from HTC's website. To get your M rom you'll have to search for it using your firmware numbers. Someone should have a copy.
BTW, you can watch ROOT JUNKY's videos on youtube as a refresher on the basics of flashing TWRP and so on. Don't use his files though. They're old.

Yeah I think you're right. I made it this far lol. But the N rom from HTC would just be the unlocked N wouldn't it, not Verizon? I know the Verizon ruu is over in the Verizon HTC 10 forum here so I could get that. Also I think I need to go brush up on firmware vs rom I tend to think they're the same thing but they're not, right?

I see. By "unlocked" you mean the US unlocked GSM HTC 10. I wouldn't mess with trying to alter your radios right now. Yes, stick with Verizon on everything. LeeDroid should run fine with that. Installing a new HTC rom changes your firmware. It will be updated as you go to N. If you decide to back to M, it will be downgraded. Installing a custom rom won't change your firmware. A full rom is composed of several components. The firmware is one component.

Ohhh okay I follow. Yeah sorry I did mean the GSM Unlocked model, I bought direct from HTC. But I couldn't get it to work on unlocked firmware with Verizon so I ended up flashing the Verizon ROM and radio last year.
So I'll grab the Verizon RUU and flash that, then LeeDroid. And update my TWRP. Its long over due anyways lol
Can't thank you enough for your help. I'm going to give it a shot this weekend I think. I really want to run LeeDroid!
