[request] Google Phone App for XZ Premium - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Themes, Apps, and Mods

I really like the default apps from Google and replaced everything I could with them, but the Play Store won't let me download the phone app and if I get the apk directly the installation always fails. Could anyone port the app over so I could use it instead of the Xperia phone app since that made some weird design choices and I would prefer the Google solution. Thanks in advance.

Many function doesn't work on this modded dialer.
New dialer is avaible only when you have root and copy dialer files to system apps.
You must waiting for DRM and root. Better install version non Nexus from apkmirror.
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-phone/google-phone-7-0-140861421-nonnexus-release/

I'm not sure where I got mine, there is an old version you can download that works perfectly. Nearby features and caller ID.

Loaded the nonnexus version, works just fine. Thank you very much.

If you want basically the same features and the ability to have a dark/black theme...then use ZENui dialer and contacts and black theme all from the play store. Works great.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asus.contacts.theme.dark
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asus.contacts

I had some non nexus version installed over my sony xperia x compact, and suddenly i got updated to version "google phone 14.0.176716531" 0_o
But in this version speed dial doesnt work well, so i was searching a little and found there is also newer version 15.0.179075669
apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-phone/google-phone-15-0-179075669-release/#description
And its working without any problem on xperia x compact. Don't have to mod anything, just install and thats all

On my Nexus YouTube was preinstalled.. which rom have you got? Normally you should be able to download youtube from the play store... or maybe it is country-specific?
Jellybean from this link has YouTube preinstalled:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737849
YouTube works fine, what I did:
I COPIED THE YOUTUBE.APK FROM MY BACKUP DATA.TAR AND I INSTALLED IT TO MY NEXUS, IT LOOKS DIFFERENT
Here is the Youtube.apk if someone needs it: http://ge.tt/5sdaPnJ/v/0 <--- I'm using it and it works perfectly..
Still though, it's strange that the Play Store says YouTube is not compatible. I'm hoping this get ironed out soon...I like to convert as many system apps as possible into Play Store user apps. This also means you cannot manage YouTube from the web interface on other devices. Same deal with Google Wallet btw.

This is because you are running an OS that is not yet released. Same problem when ICS first came out. We just need to wait until devs update their apps to support Android 4.1

Xperia ZL "google/nexus experience"

I used to mod phones alot back in the day, but switched over to iPhones...recently though I got a job at a regional carrier called Cincinnati Bell and they give me android phones like candy.
I've been using the ZL alot, but I really just want it stock android because the Sony junk just makes the phone laggy...
So my question/statement is: I have been so not in the game, I can not seem to find or figure out which ROM is a stock android one, or even if there is one....?
Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction?
IF you want pure stock android experience then you can install cyanogenmod 10.1(recommended). Download the latest nightly from : http://get.cm/?device=odin
It is pretty stable
Or
for stock rom with some modifications, you can try aokp rom : http://aokp.co/devices/odin
or PAC rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228436
I guess you know how to flash custom roms
but after flashing these, you wont be able to use bravia engine 2

Boo! You can't get someone at work to fix that for you?
You can still root the stock firmware and debloat it. I find mine to be pretty stable and using some substitutions for apps it's very usable and smooth:
Nova Launcher (the Sony launcher IMO is laggy and makes the whole phone feel slow, Nova is smooth)
SwiftKey (the Sony keyboard is lacking, you could also try the JB stock keyboard in the app store)
Using TitaniumBackup, I froze the following:
com.sonyericsson.unplugchargerreminder (why do I need to know that unplugging the charger while the phone is NOT fully charged would save energy? it's stupid)
WALKMAN
Xperia Social Engine Photos
Xperia Social Engine Sharing 3.0.A.2.7 (Twitter sharing plugin)
Xperia Social Engine Sharing 3.0.A.2.8 (Facebook sharing plugin)
Xperia with Facebook
Xperia with Twitter
I then deleted all the bloatware, either through Nova or Titanium Backup if they were system apps. These are the ones I remember, but there were more:
McAfee
Sony Reader
Music Unlimited
TrackID
Google Play Magazines (Google bloat but still not needed)
Google Play Movies
The Camera app is ok, it looks like in the latest version on 4.2.2 it remembers your mode setting, so if you were in Normal mode and relaunch, it will sometimes come back to Normal mode. I have Camera Zoom Fx but I still use the Sony Camera most of the time.
The Gallery app is not my favorite, but I was able to install the JB gallery, albeit it is missing the Picasa Album integration. The Picasa album feature on the Sony app sucks, but I can use Google+ to pull my Picasa images easily.
I haven't spent the time to disable throw, which I don't use, but I don't think it's using up much resources.
The lock screen is annoying me a bit, and that's the next thing I will look into replacing.

Well, i rooted the phone...and went to delete the SIMLOCK APK ... which what i figured controlled the SIM being locked to my network, however...it seems to have made the phone not read any sim cards now lol
I have since taken it to work and swapped it with a new one.
No one at my work knows anything about rooting/dev stuff oddly enough haha

haha yeah, don't do that. Do you also want to unlock the SIM lock? Easy, just pop in a foreign SIM and get a SIM unlock code from your employer
Hmm that sucks. I haven't heard of anyone being able to unlock the bootloader on a carrier branded phone, so I wouldn't be surprised if no coworker knows about this. It was probably a package deal from Sony. Do you want the restrictive package or the freedom package for your customers? Cincinnati Bell went with the first option I bet.
Which model do they sell? Is it the C6506?

Cincinnati Bell doesnt/wont unlock any phone that is locked to our network...period. Not even for employees.
The model we have is the one that can use T-Mobile HSPA+ and AT&T HSPA+

It's available for 4.4.2 but when one tries to download from playstore on our note II it doesn't show up,in the desktop play store it says incompatible so many of us grabbed the apk and it installs fine. Now where the problem begins is not all users are lucky depending on which 4.4.2 ROM or to be honest not really sure why get FC,but the most common reported problem is the wrench icon for settings when clicked it gives FC (not for me) ,and some of us tried various techniques to get it work i uploaded my /data/data/com.androidGoogleCamera folder on this Thread ,but didn't really help anyone when they copied pasted mine on theirs,so to sum it up i played around with google camera but at least for now it doesn't offer anything more than what our stock samsung camera app offers ,i use stock samsung and lenovo camera the most.

WhatsApp notifications under Android 5.02 LP

Does anyone know a reliable app that can send notifications to the SM2 when on Android 5.02?
I used to have Watchify but this does not work under 5.02 (which seems to be abandoned by the Dev and buggy as crap a.t.m.) :crying:
I have tried other solutions but these are even more crappy looking or either not working: WatchIt etc.
My current setup is: Sony Xperia Z3 Compact with Stock Official 5.02 installed.
Im currently using Smartwatch2 Notifier Pro with 4.4.4 KitKat on my Z3, there is a free version in the PlayStore that you can try out.

I'm not using WhatsApp, but this thing sends all notifications correctly on 5.0.2.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.shuisky.notify
Notifications popup (you can select white or black background, timeout for it to disappear,...) and by default sends all notifications, you can add apps to blacklist on the phone. Since this one I look for no other apps. And the widget actually shows valuable part of the info + icon.
I only get a site not found in germany.
Notify doesnt seem to be compatible with all phones and gears :/
Hi guys I dont know if you still looking but for whatsapp this app works just fine, one of this forum did it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ingeniousapps.hellosmartwatch. Need root for reply messages from the watch.
I needed to pay it twice, because I change countries and I needed to factory reset my phone for a boot loop, and for some reason needed to pay again. Was just 3$.

Stock Google Dialer - no ringing, no loudspeaker

Hi,
Today I've received my HTC 10 and I'm trying to get the 'nearest Nexus experience'. There was no problems with either Now Launcher or Keyboad, but I have some problems with Dialer. The app itself was installed from Play Store (com.google.android.dialer), so no sideloading was necessary. The installed version is 2.05.07_rc4. I've given it all permissions (with settings ones), change default dialer and everything is working except ringing and loudspeaker. I can dial a number, answer a call, talk. There are all notifications.
I've tried sideloading different versions form apkmirror. 2.3.17 fails to install (no necessary libraries), 3.00.04_rc4 installs but crashes. I've also sideloaded Contacts - no problems there.
Can someone had similar problems? Maybe on different phone?
Thanks for any help.
Karol
That's weird. When I go to the Play Store, it tells me the Google Dialer is not compatible with my HTC 10. Also, the version on the store is 2.3.17, how come you have 2.05.07_rc4 ? Which country are you in? (I'm in the US) Why is it a release candidate (I assume the rc part at the end is for that)?
I've tried installing from apkmirror (2.3.17 and 3.00.04_rc4) and the same happens to me; first one doesn't want to install and the latter crashes.
I'm trying as well to make my 10 resemble my former Nexus, so if anyone knows how to make this Google Dialer app work, please, post it here.
Thanks!
I had the same problem. Not sure which version. I ended up going back to the horrible HTC dialler
I also had a problem with the alarm in the google clock app. The alarm tone I selected always seemed to be the default rather than the custom selected one.
I don't know what HTC have done with their firmware. It's been a pretty good experience other than those issues though.

Give the google clock permissions for disk access and it will then be able to use custom "ringtones". This is a common Marshmallow issue. Try giving the google dialer full permissions and see if that fixes your other issues.

I'm in Poland. And yes, Google Play installs 2.05.07_rc4. It's also available from ApkMirror (apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-phone/google-phone-2-05-07_rc4-release/google-phone-2-05-07_rc4-android-apk-download)
As for the phone - I gave up. It's already sold. All reviewers almost promised the Nexus experience, but it's far from it. It's not like Moto phones, where they take stock Android and add some of their features. It's all rebuild. The quick settings look similar yet different. The same thing is with the settings. Some (Many?) dialogs have Sense not Material look. The typography is wrong. It still is Roboto, but the weights are used differently.
Stock Android is beautiful. Everything is in place, everything works as expected. Sense (8 is it?) look like HTC tried to rebuild/upgrade previous version to look Material. They failed. I'm back to my old Nexus 5.
Ps. One hint about the dialer. When you place a call, two icons appear in the notification bar. One from Google Dialer, one from HTC Dialer. So the built in one is still active, also you can't disable the Contacts/Dialer app. Maybe it's HTC bug and should by reported?
Karol
Sounds weird.
I couldn't install the contacts or dialer through google play, but sideloaded the apks and no problem once I gave the permissions.
The phone rings and loudspeaker is functional.
No issues or bugs so far.
Edit: The HTC dialer does show in the notification, and in the default app I selected the google dialer.
The phone doesn't ring either but I do have loudspeaker during a call.
For me the only part I care about is the dialer. I have the dialer installed and when I call it launches HTC phone app. I get the nice features of search but no bugs. So far it has worked nicely

I got that setup to work like that as well, but I don't like the htc phone app taking over the call. I have Google voice + carrier number on the same phone and the Google phone app lets me know if I'm dialing with Google voice or with my carrier number.

Why did HTC feel the need to restrict the access to the phone's dialing functions? (rethorical question)

Google just updated the stock dialer, it is now compatible with the HTC 10. Any luck?
I tried this earlier today and the new RC9 won't even install for me. No errors, just a failed message after a brief wait. I tried uninstalling the RC8 first but no change.

I got the same thing on other apps. You have to go into permissions to allow it to modify system settings. I don't remember exactly where it is but since the app never rings I uninstalled it.

Looks like there is an easy fix for this now:

keep in mind it breaks Wi-Fi calling settings ( although Wi-Fi calling still works)
